Jim Kelly was a prominent African-American martial artist and actor, best known for his roles in the "blaxploitation" films of the 1970s.

Kelly was born on May 5, 1946, in Paris, Kentucky, and grew up in San Diego, California. He began studying martial arts as a teenager and quickly excelled, earning a black belt in karate. He became a popular tournament fighter in the 1960s and 1970s and won numerous championships.

Kelly's big break in film came in 1973 when he was cast in the lead role in "Enter the Dragon," a martial arts movie starring Bruce Lee. Kelly's performance as Williams, a wisecracking, afro-wearing martial artist, made him an instant icon and helped to popularize the blaxploitation genre.

In the years that followed, Kelly starred in a number of other martial arts and action movies, including "Black Belt Jones," "Three the Hard Way," and "One Down, Two to Go." He also continued to compete in martial arts tournaments and worked as a martial arts instructor.

After retiring from acting in the 1980s, Kelly remained involved in martial arts and was active in promoting the sport and encouraging young people to get involved. He passed away on June 29, 2013, at the age of 67. Jim Kelly's contributions to the martial arts and film industries continue to be celebrated today.

i joke about how the writers give hershel layton a new tragic backstory every ten years but also. sometimes i think about how weirdly regular it is and how he lost his family at 6 and his best friend at 17 and his girlfriend at 27 and let's not even get into what happened when he was 37. and i think about how the human brain is pattern seeking and how hershel layton sees the world in puzzles and how he has trained himself over decades to solve any puzzle he's given. and i wonder if he's ever put the pieces together, this character who has no idea he exists solely as part of a narrative, this man who has lost family and friends and significant others every decade of his life. and i wonder how he felt, a decade after unwound future, with an 8-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old son and another daughter whose age we don't know, when he turned 47.

it's so fun how strongly the 'tism grabbed hold of me when it comes to monster high - my collection started in May last year with the Chucky and Tiffany drop, and in that just-about-a-year's time, I've gained Multitudes (it's not been like that consistently, my mom got me like 20 in a lot for fixing up once and I got 11 of them in one go recently at a toy fair, but apart from that they've been pretty spread out) and it's like. Still, to head back home to the den and boast of his latest accomplishment would be a rather exciting prospect for the small boy.

"Okay, here I come!" Grasping the tree as if he were giving it a hug of sorts, Mowgli’s scrawny legs kicked against the sharp bark for a moment before he slipped down causing scrapes to appear on his chest though he wasn't beaten yet! He made jump after jump repeatedly falling with thuds each time in the dirt, body scraped from head to toe having clung for dear life against the bark. A shout of frustration left him as fingers clawed at the dirt. Why was this so difficult?!

"It's not working! I'm trying everything and I'm still not up there!" he cried as he crossed his arms. "I'm using my legs and paws-" By those, he meant his hands and fingers. "And..." A huff left him as a pout formed. Why would Bagheera lead him on like this if he knew he couldn't accomplish the task to begin with? "Why can't you learn to be a wolf instead?" It was a silly retort and obviously wouldn't do the big cat any good at all. "Can I learn to be something else like...like a-"

A what? What were options besides prey that was hunted down? Mowgli didn't want to be any of those for sure. "A bird!" Yes, that would do! "A bird that lives on the ground because Father told me that they come down sometimes to eat. I can do that just fine."
