Body storage III
130x100cm
2023
“Body storage” are paintings inspired by Renaissance and Baroque illustrations from medical science. The foundation of medical science was created by men via studies of the male body, i.a. corpses, which were raised from the Tiber, and were studied and drawn. Only much later was the knowledge of female anatomy incorporated into medical science and teaching. I transform my own studies of all bodies into androgynous hybrids and erase the barrier; the gender.
As a queer artist, I like to blur the lines and draw attention to what binds us together. Instead of differences, I highlight the similarities and in “Body storage”, our emotional life. Where is the feeling of being crushed stored, and which memories have been stored where? Under the skin, our memories good and bad are kept; we are a kind of warehouse of memories. Moments obtained in different cells, all the times we were broken, the traumas and defeats we suffered, but also the love, the fleeting happiness and the wounds.
