A short update on the process from working with the Leonora/Leonardo series🫀

My fascination with anatomy has followed me for many years, this time I almost sculpted the figures in watercolor layers to investigate the intimate sphere, distance, attraction, symbiosis🗿

I am happiest when I am close to my wife or hugging my children or friends. 10 seconds of hugging and oxytocin is produced which reduces the stress level🤗

David, a young gay man with aspirations and dreams, lived his everyday life in Beveren, Belgium. Like anyone else, he longed for love and companionship, and he turned to a dating app in search of a potential match. Little did he know that one evening, an invitation to meet in a nearby park would lead to a tragic turn of events.

Unbeknownst to David, the person he agreed to meet was not another individual seeking connection, but rather three teenage boys who held misguided beliefs. These boys, mistakenly equating pedophiles with gay individuals, harbored a distorted view that attacking gay people was a righteous act. When David arrived at the park, he was met not with a potential match, but with three boys armed with knives. In a senseless act of violence, David's life was tragically cut short as he was fatally stabbed.

It later came to light that a network of young individuals existed, united against pedophiles, and these boys were part of that network. However, their misunderstanding of the distinction between loving someone of the same gender and harming children was evident. The community of Beveren was forever changed by this heartbreaking incident, and the boys responsible were rightfully incarcerated.

It is my hope that this tragic event serves as a wake-up call for the community, fostering greater understanding and acceptance. David's life, though tragically shortened, serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, empathy, and the need to challenge harmful misconceptions. Now David’s shoe lies in the grass in a park, in a city, in a neighborhood.

David lived to be 42 years old.
