Today marks a year since we lost the legendary actor Sean Connery.
Born Thomas Sean Connery, in the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh, Big Tam, he was known growing or as Tommy.
His first job was as a milkman with the St Cuthbert’s Co-Operative Society in Edinburgh. I would think he would have delivered the milk on a horse drawn carriage, the stables for these horses was in the are he grew up, were in Grove Street, where I used to live the main offices for St Cuthbert’s still stands round the corner on Fountainbridge.
Connery also played football at junior level for Bonnyrigg Rose, my cousin played for them too for several years.
A few more facts about Sean are he has a tattoo on his arm that state “Scotland Forever” he got when he enrolled in the Merchant Navy, he was discharged from that job due to stomach ulcers, between jobs he was a nude model for art students at Edinburgh College of art, again not to far from Fountainbridge. Other jobs he took up were, a lorry driver, a lifeguard at Portobello swimming baths, a labourer and a coffin polisher!
I think it is interesting Connery never strayed far from Fountainbridge in his younger days, indeed when he decided that acting was a career he was going to pursue, it was the nearby Kings Theatre he got a job helping backstage, he was also competing in bodybuilding competitions at this time and while at an event in London he learned that there were auditions being held for South Pacific, he was picked to appear on the chorus line but as the production toured the country he was making his way up the ladder.
By the time it hit Edinburgh he had the part of Marine Cpl Hamilton Steeves and was understudying two of the juvenile leads, and his salary was raised from £12 to £14–10s a week, when the production was reprised the following year he had the lead role on the tour, taking over from the actor Larry Hagman, who played the part in London’s West End.
Connery never looked back from there and of course the role of James Bond catapulted him to international stardom, Ian Fleming though was against him getting the part initially, he said Sean was “unrefined” and not what he had in mind, Sean soon won him over though and Fleming later admitted he was an “ideal” Bond.
A few of the parts Sean either didn’t get or turned down are Gandalf, in the Lord of the Rings series of films, he said he never understood the books and also wasn’t keen on 18 months of filming in New Zealand. He also turned down the chance to play the role of the Architect in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Sean was asked to portray King Edward I in Braveheart, but was too busy working on Another film at the time, Patrick McGoohan took the role instead.
His 93rd and last film was 2003’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Sir Sean Connery passed away in his sleep on 31st October 2020 at his home in the Bahamas, his son said he had been unwell for some time. The official cause of death was pneumonia, heart failure and old age, his death certificate revealed.
In a career spanning over 50 years, Connery earned an Academy Award, multiple Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille and Henrietta Awards, as well as two British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) awards.

Early Life of Glen Keane.
Keane was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of legendary cartoonist Bil Keane, creator of The Family Circus, and Thelma Keane (née Carne), an Australian-born woman. He was raised as a Roman Catholic in Paradise Valley, Arizona.
Observing his father's work as a cartoonist sparked Keane's interest in art. (Keane's father based his Family Circus character Billy on Glen when he was younger.) Glen's father encouraged him to draw by giving him a copy of Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Anatomy and advising him to observe body forms and practice creative approaches to life drawing.
Looking back on his formative years, Glen Keane describes his father, Bil, as a key influence in pursuing the career path he did. “Any time I needed it, I would go out to his studio and knock on the door,” recalls the director, who would bring whatever he was drawing along to share. “Dad, I’m trying to draw this horse but it looks like a dog,” he might say, and Bil would lift his arm and sweep his desk clean of the “Family Circus” to make room for his son’s work — a gesture that always made Glen feel like his own work was important — and show him how to improve it.
In a way, Bil was Glen’s first mentor.
Instead of accepting a football scholarship to another college after graduating from Brophy College Preparatory in 1972, Keane applied to the California Institute of the Arts School of Art, which was by far the best decision he made.
Glen was trained under Walt Disney's Nine Old Men. Many beloved Disney characters, including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Beast, Tarzan, and Rapunzel, were created by Glen.
In 2012, he left Disney and founded Glen Keane Productions to pursue his interests in animation, design, and film. Since then, he's worked with companies like Google Spotlight Stories and the Paris Ballet. Dear Basketball, Glen's collaboration with John Williams and the late Kobe Bryant, won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2018.
In 2020, his animated feature Over the Moon was released in collaboration with Netflix and Pearl Studio and was nominated for the 93rd Academy Awards.

Bayrock Group was founded by Tevfik Arif and quickly found it working in Manhattan along with the Trump Organization.

Many people have dreams of moving to America to experience the American dream. But, only a few people do. Turkish Kazakhstani businessman Tevfik ARIF was among those who did when Tevfik relocated to America in 2001. He founded the Bayrock Group.
The Bayrock Group is an exclusive real estate development company that works in New York City.
The firm initially concentrated on small- to medium-sized projects, such as the revamp of Loehmann’s Seaport Plaza, a shopping center in Brooklyn's Sheepshead.
Bayrock Group gained traction in the American housing market and was ready to expand. They began looking for large-scale projects.
The company, which is owned by Arif, started collaboration with the Sapir Organization to construct a massive new structure in Spring Street in New York City.
The growth in the company also led Bayrock Group to relocate its headquarters to the Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan.

Tevfik Arif, his staff as well as the Trump Organization were able to meet as a result. The group also had the Trump Tower to its base.
Discussions took place between Bayrock Group, the Trump Organization after the two companies discovered they had common goals and interests.
The cooperation was established between the two firms. The Trump Organization joined Bayrock Group and the Sapir Organization's Spring Street project.
The Trump Organization was then run by former American president Donald Trump.
The company was founded as E. Trump and Son by his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Christ Trump, and his father, Fred Trump, in 1927.
Donald Trump, who was close to assuming the White House, handed the management of the firm to his sons in 2017.

Bayrock Group, the Sapir Organization, and Trump Organization began to work together in the New York City's real estate market.
To promote the project located on Spring Street, the founder Tevfik Arif devised an arrangement that would bring more brand recognition and prestige to it.
The proposal would grant the Trump Organization 18% equity of the building, as a condition for the Trump brand being used as the building's name.
The arrangement was accepted by all three firms. In the year 2006, Trump SoHo's first brick was put in place.
A few years after, Bayrock Group and the Trump Organization together with the Sapir Organization, inaugurated Trump SoHo as their contribution to New York City’s skyline.
Design veterans take charge of Trump SoHo
Trump SoHo's 46 stories included top bars and restaurants as well event and banquet rooms, open-air pools, event and conference halls, a spa department as well as hotel suites and apartments.
Residents and visitors of Trump SoHo may enjoy a stunning view of New York City through the roof windows that extend from the floor to the roof. They were installed throughout the building.
Three of the organizations that built the structure were focusing on perfection, Handel Architects was entrusted with the design of the exterior of Trump SoHo.

Bayrock Group has not been associated with any recent real estate developments in the United States.
