Just desserts, Boss lady. Eat it, anytime.

Back in the 2010’s I was living in Louisiana and going to school. I got a job at a daycare with the understanding I was training to be the assistant manager, then later the manager. They had a really high rate of turnover for a daycare, they just couldn’t keep employees and didn’t know why. I have a lot of experience and training in childcare and have done a lot of managerial work within the field, like maintaining supplies, creating lesson plans and activities, checking time sheets, processing payments, etc. The owner was looking to hand over a lot of the day-to-day business, so that’s where I was supposed to come in.

The daycare that hired me was situated between the campus and my apartment, so it was also a convenient location. I could go to and from school to work, and vice versa. It seemed like it was going to be a decent place to work. I had the one year olds and I loved them to bits. It was easy to slip in the routine with the other teachers and the kids I had took to me very quickly. About a week in I ask about the training and my boss tells me I need to hit sixty days first. Okay, no biggie. They want to make sure I’ll stick around and not just use them for training/certs. So, I make it through the probationary period and there’s still no mention of training. The room with the older kids always smelled like pee, but when I brought it up they just dismissed it as a kid who had problems wetting himself. All the time, apparently. The two year old teacher was always on her phone playing games, the kids would run wild the entire time while she sat with her head down, not watching them. I brought that up, as well, and was told it wasn’t my business. The infant teacher was the only one that actually seemed to care and be invested in the kids, at all.

As much as that bothered me it was also stuff I knew I could fix because I had done it before at other places. If we could ever get to the actual fucking training, that is. I get only vague answers when I ask my boss about it, and it’s really starting to irk the furk out of me. I was also getting REALLY GD tired of listening to my boss talk about the kids or their parents, calling one mom a slut because of how she dressed, or saying how weird this little boy in my room was. My room also shared a half wall with the kitchen, so when my boss was back there prepping breakfast or lunch I could hear everything she said. She was a newly single 55 yr old divorcee who’d just started to go out to clubs and drink again and pick up men. There’s nothing wrong with that, I mean get it, girl! More power to ya, but please stop talking about shaving your bombass cooch around my kids. She did this ALL THE TIME, on the phone, to other teachers, even parents, like they wanted to hear about the grown and sexy club she found last night or how she’s walking crooked from pulling a muscle in her crotch.

I stuck it out thinking, “Okay, I can do this, she’ll be gone most of the time anyway when I take over and I can implement some changes so she’s not running people off with her attitude.” So, one day I have a little boy (the same one she often tried to say was weird) who starts running a fever and has to go home. I call his parents and they tell me his grandparents are heading over to pick him up. He’s a very quiet little boy, never makes any waves or anything. His parents are absolutely precious. His grandparents come in and are just as sweet. So, they come in my classroom while my boss is preparing lunch. She’s talking to another teacher while I talk to the grandparents about his symptoms. All of a sudden we hear her talking about the little boy, how he stunk and ‘what else do you expect from *racial slur?’. The boy was middle eastern. I am stuck somewhere between absolutely mortified and thoroughly goddamn enraged, but I also have a bunch of little kids volleying for my attention and don’t want to scare them. I clear my throat as loudly as humanly fucking possible, but She. Keeps. Going, talking about the parents and how she was glad she didn’t have to deal with them right now, because somebody else was picking him up. I’m apologizing profusely to the grandparents at this point. I peak my head around the corner and tell her to shut up, then watch the couple leave with their grandson.

She comes out of the kitchen and says nothing at all, just walks straight by without a word. I get the kids to sleep, then go on my lunch break. Just as I return, I hear her on the phone in the office as soon as I walk in. She is telling the boy’s parents that I was the one in the kitchen talking about him, blaming every disgusting thing she said on me. Of all the nerve, the outright unmitigated gall, WHO tf does that?! I was heated.

I waited until the end of the day, walked in her office, and quit on the spot. I then reported a lot of the infractions and stuff I had seen that she never corrected, even though she was fully aware of the issues. Didn’t think about her again, until six months later....

I’m pulling through the Jack In the Box drive-thru and I hear a familiar voice on the speaker. Nah, I think, can’t be. I pull around and there my former boss is standing in the window wearing a drive-thru headset. This was funny for two reasons: 1) when I left she wished me luck flipping burgers (in return I wished her luck keeping the place afloat) and 2) she treated service people like absolute shit. Not enough ice in her drink? She’d call and complain. They forgot extra ketchup? Well, then she deserved free fucking food. Just an absolute Karen any time she had the chance.

I stop at the window and stare for a second. She looks straight through me at first. I gave her the money and said, “Fancy meeting you here.”

She never acknowledges me, so I actually wondered if she recognized me. I asked, “You don’t remember me?” She put her hand on her hip and looked over the top of her glasses at me the way I had seen her do countless times when describing her sexploits from the previous night, and said, “No. SHOULD I?”

Damn, I figured, she really doesn’t know me? Buuuuuuut nope, she definitely remembered, because she then threw my change, coins included, at me in my truck, and asked, “Will that be all?”

Yep, honey, I’m going to feast on this moment for years.

i guess it’s story time!

to set the scene, growing up my family moved around the world a lot, and between aug 2007–june 2010 my family lived in vienna, austria. i went to 11th and 12th grade in austria, graduated in 2009, and then went to the states for college. but i got to go back for school breaks during christmas ‘09 and the start of summer ‘10. while i was in high school, i started dating some british canadian dude who was a year older than me and moved to london to go to culinary school, but we broke up a few months into my freshman year of college. for the rest of the school year we were still talking very regularly and he wanted to get back together but i resisted.

so now, picture this, it’s summer 2010. i’m back in austria along with a bunch of friends who have also returned. my parents have a move out date scheduled for...mid- to late-june. and they’ve agreed to let me to stay in the country for 2 weeks after they leave, so i have a return flight back to the states on my own. for the 2 weeks after they leave, i’m staying at my friend chiara’s house.

but we’re not there yet. first: i spend may and june working a summer job and catching up with friends (both college kids like myself and friends who are still in high school), going out drinking, doing all the fun things i haven’t gotten to do in the states. throughout this time i’m also still talking to the ex, skyping and texting and calling etc, and kind of lamenting that he’s not gonna be able to visit austria while i’m in town. see, his family had moved back to canada the previous summer (2009). throughout this time, he kept trying to convince me to visit him in london but i was like “noooo, i don’t have the money, i’d get in trouble, i can’t” and he kept offering to pay for the tickets but i pushed back bc...i don’t like accepting big gifts like that obv.

ANYWAY. my high school had their senior prom, and (as was the norm) all of the alum decided to go out drinking the same night and meet up with a lot of the seniors at whatever bar/club the afterparty was being held at. i think?? that year they actually chose a dance club which i hated, so a bunch of us just got drinks at this bar that my high school considered “ours.” and we’re drinking, we’re doing shots, we’re getting totally hammered—and throughout the night, of course, all the friends i keep running into want to know the deal with me and my ex (he was also an alum). and i keep telling them about how he wants me to go to london, and everyone is basically like, “why tf don’t you???”

and EVENTUALLY it gets to like 4AM, i’m totally wasted, and i called up my ex and woke him up in the middle of the night and was like. “yes. YES. I’LL COME TO LONDON! BUY THE TICKET!” and he legit got on his laptop right away and bought me a round trip ticket to london during the 2 weeks while i’m in austria without my family.

(genuinely, it was kind of a wild night, and also one of those like, iconic classic belongs-in-a-movie picturesque moments. my friends and i wound up walking through downtown historic vienna as the sun was rising and the city streets were literally glowing pink and managed to catch one of the first trams of the morning home.)

and then i just....lied to my family. the only adults who knew i was going to london was chiara’s parents and that’s bc they HAD to know since they drove me to the airport. otherwise i only told my friends. when my parents emailed me during the week i was in london, i pretended i was still in austria and made up stories about what chiara and i were doing with our days. it was pretty easy to lie to them while they were in florida. and like i said in the tags: i didn’t take a single picture the whole week i was in london out of fear that they’d be ~*discovered*~ and i’d get in trouble. it exists only in my memory now (cue titanic music).

anyway, that’s how the trip came to pass and that’s how i managed to keep it a secret. which was genuinely kind of hard to do once it had like, real ramifications? bc me and that ex actually would up getting back together, which would Not have happened without that trip. but i couldn’t figure out how to explain to my parents how we’d gotten back together? so i just....straight up didn’t tell them. for a YEAR. we just dated secretly via long distance and then i got into my school’s london study abroad program and when i got back from that in december 2011 i told my parents we’d gotten back together. but i def implied it had ~*just happened*~

but she wasn’t allowed at home. wasn’t allowed with them. wasn’t allowed to see them unless at events they specifically ordered her to come to for press reasons

PyeongChang Men’s SP Reaction

FOREWARNING: someone remind me to never do this again I literally sweat through my shorts going through this emotional earthquake

I had reservations about doing this reaction post but I’m watching the NBC mini-promos for everyone (cue lil’ kid saying that Javi is his ONLY hero <3) competing tonight and all the feels flooding in.

Also gonna put my dream podium out there in advance so I can lay claim to my fantasies before they possibly flop: Yuzu, Nathan, Javi (in that order for Gold, Silver, and Bronze), but ofc the best scenario is that everyone skates well and leaves the ice happy and the gremlin judges can do whatever. I haven’t watched a lot of the earlier-group men this season, but looking at their music choices I’m pretty excited for Julian Zhi Jie Yee’s Build a Home program (P/C’s 2016 FS from Euros that year still sticks with me) and hopefully Yaroslav hits his 4F. Just writing out everyone’s name is getting me hella nervous

Okay so the announcement for Denis Ten is in English over the loudspeakers but there’s like a little interruption when they just repeat the word “Kazakhstan” but in Korean phonetics; REIGNING BRONZE MEDALIST LET’S GO nope there goes the 4S-->2S, NICE triple axel though!, also loving the royal blue shirt, triple lutz triple NO (sorry had to say that), but the music is great kinda operatic but not like a loud Bocelli; considering his injuries and other hurdles this is alright, his entire season had a rough start ALSO the flower girls have dresses that match the rink so QUTE also Frank Carroll is still not retired mkay

Matteo Rizzo NICE 3A also considering that this is choreo’d by his mom this is great, strong Italian vibes, really good lines, straight camel with the leg position above the hip, good rotation; love the arms out of the 3Lz this would be a program I would want to do OKAY NBC WE GET THAT U NEED A QUAD TO GET ON THE PODIUM but friggin Matteo’s job is to make his mom choreo proud also considering how this is by far the biggest stage he’s been on after dethroning Ivan Righini, dis is gr8

Michael Christian Martinez honestly still love his taking YOI in stride basically Phichit IRL, not a great performance by any means, really low score in the 50s sheesh but hey that signature Biellmann though! this first group was alright still looking ahead

Yaroslav Paniot that was rough :/// also he took out the 4F and fell on all 3 passes (I mean he landed on his knee on the axel but like...what do you even call that?) damn Tammy Gambill coaches him too, into last place :(( it’s okay Yaroslav

Yan Han going for that hard nose blow and tissue grab looks intense LOVE THAT HARD SLAP ON THE BARRIER you got this my man, AHHH yas more Twilight, NICE TRIPLE AXEL BEST SO FAR man was that rotation fast, crap that 4T still looking for a clean toe in this comp; also these SPs are passing really quickly, Vincent still in the lead after Han’s 80.63
