Hello all! We forge onto episode 13 for s1. Super solid ep all around really enjoy this one.

1x13 Caught Stealing

I love whenever Chenford get a cold open. This one doesn't disappoint. After the last ep Tim needed a little fun. What’s more fun than messing with his rookie on her first night shift? Ah the night shift I can’t imagine with that job. Poor Lucy I feel tired just watching her in this scene. Girl needs her some caffeine.

The amount of sass he is throwing her way is hilarious. Being the tough ass T.O. with a little salty sass throw in for his enjoyment. He's definitely have a little fun with how damn tired she is. Poor Lucy is paying for not listening to his nap advice. Lucy see's a random guy in the street. We see them out out of the car because she insists she saw him. Lucy eventually follows this guy Tim doesn't see. Its very evident once she catches up to him this is a dream. She's awoken by laughter and mortified she's fallen asleep on her first midnight shift.

Tim is so pleased with himself she fell sleep. Not only that but he gets to have others in on it with him. Her ‘No No’ as he's laughing and taking pics too funny. Clearly enjoying his damn self haha Lucy didn’t listen to his advice and paid for it. He's not even mad as he's taking pics. He's bemused with her more than anything else. You can see it in his face. There is no anger there. He is very much enjoying giving her a hard time about this. (Work flirt part 1.)

Part 2 is the shirts he makes haha Lucy's face/reaction cracks me up. She's not even the least bit shocked he did this. Such a turd haha. Highly doubt Tim has ever messed with a rookie the way he does with Lucy. Just another work flirt between them. Whether he realizes he's doing it or not. She brings out a side of him rarely seen. His playful side it’s fun to see. Tim knows it’s going to bother her so naturally he does it haha

I'll say it again the absolute sass Tim has with her in this episode is unreal haha He's getting so comfortable with her its just pouring out. They report to a burglary at a fertility clinic. Lucy being Lucy has to question if its an abduction or burglary haha She has a fair point in what she’s asking LOL I do love her little notebook trying to take down everything she can. Absorb whatever knowledge Tim is gonna throw her way. Even when he's being surly with her she's always ready to learn regardless. They end up going to the apt of the woman who stole the eggs. The ex- wives are in the midst of a massive fight about them when they arrive.

Tim steps in immediately as their mediator. This scenario hits a little differently for Tim now. Also for the viewer as well. The way he handles this entire situation is masterful. If this isn’t his entire situation with Isabel in a moment idk what is. Just with the way he responds and de-escalates the whole situation. Using his past pain to do so. Now that he’s removed from it you can see the perspective he's gained since. How he uses it to relate to this woman's distress.

The way he’s talking this lady through her emotional crisis. My goodness. Gets me right in the feels. The reason she ends up listening is because she can hear in his voice he can relate. The tone he is taking with her is so sincere. I couldn't be prouder of him. The Tim that Lucy started with would be floored by the words coming out of his mouth right now. They hit so much differently as he calms the ex-wife down. You can hear the painful experience in his voice.

You can’t tell me Lucy’s words from 1x07 didn’t stick with him. The way she stopped him from this fate, from hating himself. Tim knew deep down he would've had he gone through with his plans. Lucy was there to stop him from doing that to himself. Tim is doing the same for this woman now. This is what growth looks like. Most people might think his growth is more apparent and doesn’t truly start till s2. Where we see Tim start to visibly soften for her, but it started the day he met Lucy Chen.

You can see the impact she’s had on his life. These are the moments that reflect that. How he's changed due to her presence in his life. That small crack in his rigid wall she started on day 1. How it continues to grow. S1 Tim is rough at the start but he is for a reason. It seems like this is a small scene in the ep as a whole if you’re not paying attention. But this scene is absolute growth for Tim. His character arc is primo and Lucy's role in it even more so.

It makes me smile how Tim impresses her with this line of thought. Lucy is genuinely impressed with his attitude about the domestic violence rule. He’s almost offended she seemed surprised haha I think he truly does want her to think highly of him. Tim might actually be slightly offended when she is 'surprised' by him with stuff like this. Where he finds her 'surprised' Lucy is actually expressing 'awe' for him.

We all know underneath that gruff exterior beats a soft puppy of a man. (Especially for her) I dare say Lucy’s attraction to him grows due to this comment he makes about the rule. She tries to rebound by saying he surprises her everyday hehe I know he does. His reply is so cute. They're so married and have no idea.

Tim’s gut reaction is to immediately defend Lucy. *heart clutch* Not only that but compliments her while doing so. Talia calls him out on his compliment. They both know he doesn’t hand those out ever. You can tell he's a little irked Talia has done so. He back tracks a little cause of it but not much. He doubles down on it still and says she’s smarter than this.

He knows her just as well she knows him at this point. Tim is very aware how sharp Lucy is. So if it was even slightly possible she did this would've it would've been executed better. He's almost offended they would attach her to such a poorly thought out plan. Ah if only Lucy could hear him singing her praises Her head would explode. Oh the growth in this ep for him is glorious.

That wraps it up for the Chenford portion of this ep.

Side Notes. Non Chenford

I LOVE how Angela brings Jackson down a peg in this ep. He was insufferable about the rules. Well until he ran into a fiery buzz saw that was Angela and never recovered haha I do appreciate him coming to her at the end and apologizing. Thanking her for never giving up on him. He wouldn’t be here without her and wouldn't let himself forget that again.

Also the beginning of BAMF Lucy where she holds her own against a slew of baddies solo. Then out smarts them by revealing what the guy did and how he stole the money. Love our girl. Like Tim said she’s smart. Too smart for his own good most days haha doesn’t need Nolan by time he gets there. Saves her own damn self.

What are your top 5 cold opens??

Do you mean Rookie cold opens, or just for any show ever? Because this is probably my favorite cold open of all time:

Just kidding, obviously you mean The Rookie.

You know, for as many times as I’ve watched this show, you'd think this would be easy. Instead, my brain immediately blanked on most of the cold opens and I just spent 2 hours looking through all the episode transcripts and then rewatching a bunch of them and struggling to narrow it down.

Top 5

2x06 Fallout I’m such a sucker for simple comedy, and this one is that for sure. Nolan’s steadily growing horror combined with the guy’s cheeky smile when Nolan realizes he has a dick piercing? Perfection. It cracks me up so much!

4x17 Coding Don’t get me wrong, I love a good short, comedic cold open. But this one… holy cow. It punches me in the heart every single time. It’s so intense and so sad, and just a really moving scene. I’m listing these chronologically, but if I was going in order, this one would probably be at the top.

5x09 Take Back Grey is such an underrated character, and I always love when he gets his own storyline. He’s typically so stoic and professional, so to see him completely out of his element is just endlessly hilarious to me.

5x13 Daddy Cop This is another one that just makes me laugh every time. It’s such an annoyingly catchy and hilarious song. And Celina singing along at the end is really just the icing on the cake.

5x16 Exposed I mean… isn't it obvious? We start off with Chenford in bed together, with Tim curled towards her and his head basically laying on her pillow. Which is just adorable. And then we immediately transition to Lucy being just an absolute badass. This cold open encapsulates the softness of their relationship, Lucy’s UC skills, and Tim’s unwavering support for her so well.

Because there are so many other good ones!

1x13 Caught Stealing This one makes the list because it's the first time we ever really see Tim mess with Lucy. Like... the fact that he could get mad at her, but instead he takes a picture of her and makes t-shirts? I love it!

1x19 The Checklist Again, simple yet funny. And Talia’s reaction to meeting Will.I.Am is probably the funniest moment we ever saw from her.

2x14 Casualties This one just cracks me up. That’s really all I can say.

4x02 Five Minutes The only reason this one didn’t make the top five is because the boot prank is just one tiny piece of the entire cold open. Which is also a good scene… just not quite top 5.

4x22 Day in the Hole It was hard for me to push this one out of the top five because this scene has so much. Chenford bickering like an old married couple. Tamara’s awful driving. She and Tim joking with each other. The fact that he gave her the name of his mechanic. And, of course, let’s not forget the fact that this scene sets up the entire Dim/Juicy storyline.

5x10 The List I mean. Do I even need to explain this one? If it was just the deciding what to wear scene, 100% this would be top five. But I get a lot of secondhand embarrassment from awkward scenes, and that date has some great moments but overall it’s just so awkward.

In terms of angsty things in the works, here are a few sneak peaks from my current WIPs:  a follow up to One Time Thing, Beneath Your Beautiful, and We Built Sandcastles (in order of angstiness; don’t say I didn’t warn you).

First, the follow-up to One Time Thing -- it’s an alternate take on the ending of 1x13 – Caught Stealing (the episode where Lucy is run off the road and violently pursued by three armed men and somehow manages to crack the case of the missing money in the midst of all of that because she is a badass). Loosely inspired by this BTS post from Melissa. 

While this snippet isn’t particularly angsty, the vibe of this follow-up will definitely be a little more serious than its predecessor. 

And now he’s here again, at the door of the sh*tty apartment she is about to be evicted from. This time not because work demands it, but because the lines are blurring all over again. 

“Hey,” he says softly when she opens the door. Her expression is distant and the intensity of her exhaustion is apparent on her face. She’s still in her clothes from earlier, still covered with dirt. 

“Hey,” she says wearily back, eyes searching his for the answer to the unspoken question that is stretching between them, echoing in both of their heads. What are you doing here, Tim?

He studies her carefully, second guessing his decision even though it’s clear he’d been right — it’s more than evident the events of this afternoon have begun to catch up to her, that she may not actually be as okay as she had appeared at the station now that the adrenaline has worn off and reality has set in. 

The air is already heavy with the tension of this — the two of them off duty and alone together again, this time without an urgent reason to drag her into work.

“I wanted to make sure you were okay.” He says simply. And it’s the truth. 

She blinks, surprise and something softer flickering through her eyes in response to his words. She shakes her head, and shrugs before looking at him with a vulnerability that tugs at something in his chest. “I’m really, really tired. And there’s so much dirt.” 

And the way she says it, you’d think the dirt was the absolute worst thing that had happened to her that day. A subtle desperation in her voice indicating that this is the one thing that is going to push her over the edge after a day filled with all of the other worst possible things. “I got home, and I just want to shower and go to bed, but all my stuff is in boxes and I’m covered in dirt and it’s getting everywhere and I can’t —“ she covers her face with her hands as her voice threatens to break.

He nods. “Can I come in?”

Next, a snippet from some angst to come in Beneath Your Beautiful, because, can you ever really have enough?

“Tim, I — thank you for telling me. I —”

“Just take care of yourself, okay. And please — I know you are going to want to tell the people you care about, but you can’t. We can’t risk a panic.”

Lucy’s stomach drops, and suddenly she is wishing she hadn’t picked up the phone. “Oh, Tim...”

“Lucy, what’s wrong? I only have a minute. I have to get back out there and start running down some of these leads.”

She swallows, knowing that choosing to tell her could not have been easy for him. That he was taking a risk and trusting her. But…

“Tim. I — I’m a journalist. This is — I can’t sit on this. I —”

His voice is ice cold when he responds, cutting her off. “Are you serious? I can’t believe I — this is my job, Lucy. Are you really going to throw me under the bus just so you can get another big headline?”

And it’s a punch to the gut. That he would think so little of her. Think that was her motivation. Why on earth hadn’t they talked about this — the conflicts of interests their professions could create for them? Her voice is barely a whisper when she responds, “No. I would never — this is my job. I have an obligation to the public.”

“God, I don’t even know why I told you.” 

He hears her sharp inhale on the other side of the line and can feel his heart drop into his stomach. F*ck. F*ck. 

How had they ended up here again? Of course, he knows why he called her. Because he cares about her. He wants her to be safe. He wants to know she’s safe so he can focus on his job. 

“Honestly, Tim, I wish you hadn’t. Because believe it or not, I don’t want to be in this position any more than you want to be.” 

Finally, there’s the angstiest of all my fics -- poor [temporarily] abandoned We Built Sandcastles (I’m coming back for you I promise! 😭 ). Just a warning for those that were heartbroken by the chapter I left things on, this will probably just break your hearts a little more 💔 

Truly, my plans for this one were so freaking angsty I think I talked myself out of them, so who knows if this will make the final cut, but here it is for anyone who is in the mood for some pain. Eat your angst-loving hearts out:

There’s a knock at his door less than 30 minutes later; she’s talking before he’s even got the door fully open.

“Tim — I know I said I was done, but I can’t — I don’t want to do this anymore. Please can’t we just try —“ Her breath catches and her eyes widen as she takes him in, in nothing but his basketball shorts, hair disheveled and skin still heated in that way that she knows all too well, all too intimately.

Her mouth drops open, thinking that there is no way that this is happening, that she could possibly be so pathetic to have shown up at his door to beg him to take her back when he’s fresh off of f*cking another woman. No possible way that she can still be so broken and he can still be so callous.

Her eyes follow the movement over his shoulder as the beautiful blonde appears in the living room wearing nothing but his T-shirt.

And if Lucy had thought nothing could possibly hurt worse than when Tim had dumped her out of the blue, she had been so, so wrong.

Because this feels like she might actually die right here on the spot. Because she can’t seem to figure out how to breathe. Because there is no air traveling through her lungs, not enough oxygen on the planet to make her feel like she is ever going to be able to breathe again.

She stumbles backward as her hand flies to her mouth to cover her gut-wrenching sob, barely able to process the look on his face, the sound of his voice as he says her name, the movement of his hand reaching for her.

She can barely see straight but somehow she is running. Her hands drop to her knees as she gasps, silent agonizing sobs still wrenching through her core as she tries to find the breath that she knows she needs to survive.

He is right behind her, barefoot and shirtless and wearing that look of concern that used to make her feel so comforted and now, instead, just makes her want to scream, to demand that he make this make sense, to push him as hard as she can away from her because how is it possible that the one person she trusted with her entire being to love her and cherish her and protect her is now the one that is absolutely destroying her?

He reaches for her, voice soothing, “Lucy, you have to breathe.”

She shakes her head vigorously stepping immediately back from him, somehow finding her voice amidst the battle for her breath, “Don’t f*cking touch me. Don’t you dare f*cking touch me, Tim. I don’t want you to touch me ever again.”

His face contorts at her words, the pain so completely evident that she still cannot even begin to fathom how they are here, how this has become them.

“I wish I had never met you, Tim. I wish I could turn back time and just erase every f*cking moment — I still — I don’t understand any of this, but clearly I never had the first f*cking clue about who you actually are. Because you are not the man I thought you were. You're not the man I thought I fell in love with.

"But guess what? You wanted us to be done. Mission accomplished, Tim. We could not possibly be more done.”

Tim nods, unable to offer her anything more — each of her words devastating him more than the prior, but also feeling the tiniest bit of relief that this might finally be over. That he has done what was required to keep her safe. That she hates him enough — that she has the closure she needs — to move on and find the happiness she could not deserve more.

She stares at him in disbelief — surely he must have something to say to her — but when the silence continues she just shakes her head, every bit of her anger draining out of her and leaving her with nothing other than her heartbreak.

Her eyes meet his one final time and she wills him to come back to her, her Tim to suddenly appear and fix all of this. “Tim, please,” she begs, hating herself for it the moment the words are out of her mouth but unable to stop them. “Don’t do this…”

And this time when he reaches for her, she doesn’t push him away, feeling his familiar warmth surround her as her pulls her into his chest, holds her like she is the most precious thing in the world to him.

“I’m so sorry, Lucy,” is all he says. No promises to fix things, no explanation for why he has destroyed everything they had built. Nothing to make any of this okay. Not a f*cking thing. 

She sucks in a breath and chokes on the sob that is rising in her throat, her face crumpling as she pushes back from him, voice thick with emotion. “I can smell her on you,” she finally gasps, before whirling on her heel and hurrying back to her car.

^^^ This was actually interesting to look back on, because clearly my heart was very set on some of these angsty exchanges happening and some of it has been channeled into Beneath Your Beautiful in different ways.

Hi, I was also pleased with this ep for the same reasons you listed! I had a feeling that Ashley & Tim wouldn’t break up at the end, but at the very least, the date seemed to plant some seeds of doubt in their relationship. Also loved the chemistry between Chris & Lucy (why couldn’t he have been like this from the beginning???) What are you thoughts on Tim calling out him being Lucy’s sergeant, especially when literally in the prior scene, they were operating as partners?

As far as Tim maintaining the boundaries between him and Lucy in the workplace - every time he calls it out, I always think of "the lady doth protest too much", and how Tim doesn't even validate Ashley's concern with Lucy (not that there was much concern).

Both Tim and Lucy are used to fiercely defending each other. Lucy to the Detective from IA, Tim with Rosalind - and arguably Caleb. Those are just the first examples that pop to mind, but we know that Tim and Lucy are the only OG Rookie/TO team that made it all 13 months, they shared more with each other than any other team on the show. Arguably, they are the B point couple in this show - their storylines are usually interwoven. Tim and Lucy respect each other.

Two standouts for me:

Tim saying Lucy is too smart to get caught stealing in 1x13

Lucy defending Tim to Nolan, and calling him calculating not cruel.

There is an ying yang dichotomy at work here, they are two sides of the same coin. Lucy wants to know where stands in the world, where the safe spaces are, and Tim wants to control his own fate, because he doesn't know if he can trust anyone else. Safety and security - for themselves and others - is both of their goals.

I think Tim maintaining that Lucy is his Aide, and he her Sergeant is how he is trying to make the situation safe for both of them. He doesn't want to let other people know what is happening between them - maybe, because he doesn't know himself. I don't think that either one of them is aware of the depth of feeling between them. Let alone that it is reciprocated.

Tim is a black and white thinker, and as long as he can easily say that he is Lucy's Sergeant, he doesn't have to look any deeper than that. We don't even need to create subtext, or use supposition, Tim said that because he doesn't see a possibility of anything more between them.

anywhooooooo, that's that on the Sergeant line.

As far as Chris and Lucy go - I am happy you liked the chemistry. I like the softness/vulnerability that Melissa infuses into Lucy, but I just feel meg about Chris. Win me over, I say. I want to like him - so, it should be easy.

okay in 1x13 “caught stealing” with the missing money, Bishop goes to Nolan’s place before shift to bring him to the station. Jackson and Lucy are already in the room, and Tim says, “(the captain) told us to gather our Boots”.

WHICH MEANS, he had to have gone over to lucy’s place to bring her in, right?!

I wonder how much Tim spent to get those shirts made. I'm telling you, Tim and Lucy's marriage will be full of pranks. They are the new Jim and Pam. 🤣🤣

Tim downplays the "you surprise me every day" with just an "uh-huh". And now I will be keeping an eye out on whether or not he does that every time he gets complimented. Granted, Lucy's line here may not be considered a full-on compliment, but it's close.

I did not remember Lucy moving to another apartment before she and Jackson moved in together.

feels like we’re going home

i started watching the owl house last week and the tl;dr is that i do not control the hyperfixation, so this happened. this takes place immediately following 1x13, so spoilers for that episode if you haven’t seen it yet.

It was strange, Eda thought as she flew towards Hexside. Luz had only been around for a few short weeks, but she had already become such a fixture in Eda’s life that Eda had spent most of the day pacing the house trying not to think about how Luz was doing at school while also trying to remember how exactly she had spent her time before all of this. Neither of those pursuits had been very successful, and she breathed a sigh of relief when it was finally time to pick up Luz.

Owlbert seemed to pick up on the change in her mood instantly, and he hooted as they neared the school.

“Shut it, you,” Eda snapped. “I’m not going soft, you’re going soft.” Owlbert didn’t respond, but Eda knew her palisman well enough to know that he wasn’t convinced.

She touched down at the edge of the courtyard, a good distance away from the gaggle of parents and witchlings. No matter what Bump had promised about keeping the eyes of the Emperor’s Coven off of her, she still wasn’t exactly eager to draw any attention to herself; especially not while Luz was so new.

It only took a few minutes before Eda spotted Luz chatting with the little Blight girl. When she saw Eda, though, her face lit up and she waved as she jogged over.

“So did you have a good…woah.” Eda trailed off as she took in the bright colors on Luz’s uniform that she was pretty sure hadn’t been there this morning. “Sweet mother of isles, what the heck did you get yourself into, kid?”

“Eda, you’re not going to believe the day I had!” Luz cried. “Principal Bump put me in the potions track, but I sort of accidentally did some oracle magic and I got put in detention, but then the inspector from the Emperor’s Coven turned out to be this giant snake monster and it was eating everyone’s magic, but we saved everyone and then Principal Bump decided the track rules were outdated, so I get to study in all the tracks now!”

Her entire speech was animated in classic Luz fashion, and Eda’s head was practically spinning trying to follow everything. “Okay, you’re going to have to walk me through that again just a little bit slower, I caught, like, none of that. Who’s eating magic monsters now?”

“Not important,” Luz said. “I mean, it was, and I’ll tell you about it all tonight, but hold on, I think Jerbo and Barcus already left, but I have another friend that I think would really love to meet you. I’ll be right back.” She dashed off across the courtyard before Eda had a chance to process her words.

“More friends?!”

As if on cue, King popped out of a nearby garbage can with a soft “Weh!” There were crumbs on his paws and something purple that looked like abomination goop saturating the end of the long red tie he almost certainly hadn’t been wearing that morning. “I know, right?” he said. “That kid could make friends in an empty box.”

Eda’s hands fell to her hips as she glared at the demon. “And just what have you been doing all day? I was looking for you at the house all afternoon. Or did you just forget that you’re supposed to be working for me?”

“Listen, sister, some of us have greater vocations in life than being a witch’s errand-demon. Mine is shaping the next generation of young minds, and I think that we teachers deserve a little more respect.”

“Forget I asked,” Eda said as she rolled her eyes. She caught sight of Luz coming back towards them, leading a pale girl with thorns around her brown ponytail and…was that a fish hook for an earring? Okay, maybe Eda was a little impressed.

Luz skidded to a stop, but the girl behind her had her eyes so firmly fixed on Eda that she nearly fell into Luz. She, too, was wearing a multicolored uniform, and there was an almost reverential look in her eyes that almost made Eda a little self-conscious. Almost.

“Eda, this is my new friend, Viney. Viney, meet Eda the Owl Lady,” Luz said proudly. “But you might know her better as—”

“Lord Calamity,” Viney breathed.

“Excuse me?” Eda glanced at Luz. “What’s going on here?”

“You created the Secret Room of Shortcuts!” Viney exclaimed. “Oh man, Jerbo’s never gonna believe this.”

“The room with all the doors?” Bits of memories started to appear in the back of Eda’s mind of slipping into secret passages to get out of trouble, eavesdropping on classes and conversations, meeting Lilith in between classes sometimes just to check in.  It was her grandest achievement by far, but one of the first to be forgotten almost as soon as she had dropped out. But this was hardly the time to unpack that, so she just smirked as she said, “We used to use that for all kinds of pranks back in the day. Bump still hasn’t found it yet?”

She noticed the glint in Luz’s eyes at the word ‘we.’ There were going to be a lot of questions later tonight, but after a day of silence broken only by Hooty, she’d take it.

Viney shook her head. “Nope. A couple of older kids showed us how to access the entrance in the detention room and we’ve been using it to study all kinds of magic all year. You’re basically our hero.”

“Happy to be of service,” Eda said. “I mean, it’s not exactly setting ghosts loose in a changing room or stealing teeth, but I’m glad it’s still getting put to good use.”

“Oh, there’s plenty of pranks too,” Viney said. “Your hexed graffiti is the coolest I’ve ever seen.”

“Ha! Use it well, kid,” Eda said. “And listen, I’m glad Bump is loosening up in his old age, but if you ever want to ditch this place, the Bad Girl Coven is always accepting applications.”

“Really?” Viney’s eyes grew wide and she looked from Eda to Luz and back again, but before she could reply, someone called her name from across the courtyard and Viney sighed. “That’s my mom. I have to go.” She turned to Eda and bowed her head. “It’s an honor to meet you, Lord Calamity. See you tomorrow, Luz!” She turned and waved as she ran off again.

“So…,” Eda said after a long moment. “I take it school wasn’t as horrible as you thought?”

“No, it was great! I mean, aside from the basilisk almost stealing everyone’s magic and destroying the school, but as long as that’s not a regular thing, I think I’ll like it at here.”

“How in the heck did you take down a bas—” Eda stopped herself. “You know what? Maybe that’s a conversation we can have later. I’m just glad you had a good time. Which reminds me…” She paused to dig around in her hair until she found what she was looking for. It was the same round badge she had offered Luz that morning, except it had been altered to read Not a Quitter Badge. “It’s not much, but…I’m proud of you, kid.”

Luz gasped as she took the badge. “¡Es asombrosa! I love it!” She threw her arms around Eda, and even though it caught Eda more than a little off guard, she found herself hugging Luz back. After a moment that was somehow both too long and too short for Eda’s liking, Luz stepped back and pinned the badge to the front of her uniform and puffed out her chest proudly. “What do you think?”

Eda could feel her heart swell at the sight and she really hoped that Luz couldn’t tell how choked up she was as she said, “It looks great. And it’s almost certainly against the dress code, so that’s a bonus.”

The next thing Eda knew, Luz's arms were around her waist and hugging her tightly. The more surprising part, though, was that Eda had been ready for it.“Thank you, Eda,” Luz said.

Eda waved her hand nonchalantly as they broke apart. “Don’t mention it,” she said. “Just promise me you’ll beat some of my sister’s illusion records and that’ll be thanks enough.”

Luz’s face turned stony serious in an instant and she gave Eda a mock salute. “I’ll do my best,” she said.

“That’s good enough for me,” Eda said with a smile. She ruffled Luz’s hair and then dipped her staff so that they could both get on. “Now hop on,” she said. “I’ve got dinner cooking back at the house and I left Hooty watching it, so we should probably go.” She paused and frowned as she scanned the courtyard. “King!”

King scampered away from some kid’s bag lunch that had been abandoned on the cobblestones, but not without swiping a stack of cookies and leaving a trail of crumbs behind him. He hopped into the hood of Luz’s cowl and made himself comfortable. “Ugh. Teaching is rewarding and all, but I could use a vacation.”

Luz giggled and Eda rolled her eyes as Owlbert spread his wings and they lifted into the late afternoon sky.

“So,” Eda said. “In just one day you managed to get branded as a delinquent, save the school from a demon, become the first student in Hexside history to study all nine tracks, and on top of it all, you managed to break Bump’s will which is the one thing I never accomplished in my time there. How are you going to top all of that tomorrow?”

“I’m sure I’ll figure something out,” Luz replied. She was quiet for a moment, but just as the Owl House came into view between the trees, she asked, “So who’s ‘we’?”

Eda tipped the staff downward before pulling up hard just short of the grass. “Whoops, turbulence, I can’t hear you!”

Luz yelped and then laughed as they sped towards the house, and Eda couldn’t help the smile that tugged at the corners of her lips as they touched down in front of a house that had only recently started to feel like a home with a kid who had quickly become a far bigger part of her life than Eda had ever imagined. Maybe she really was going soft after all. And maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing.

1. Who is your favorite character in 2?

I’m going to have to go with Spike. Lots of characters are close second like Giles or Willow but Spike is fantastic all through the show. He made a great villain and a very complex, interesting and often touching kind of good guy while always remaining fun and never being boring.

2. Who is your least favorite character in 1?

The whole Ruby/Hale thing felt like a huge waste of time and they weren’t either fun or terrifying villains at all. I also hated Ward as a good guy until 1x17 where I understood where they were going with him. He was, for me, the weakest, most boring character in the show and I spent most of season one wondering why he was there at all :p He was really good as a villain though. 

3. What is your favorite episode of 4?

Hard to chose but My Screwup (season 3) is so well written and shows that Scrubs is not only a goofy comedy but has a lot of beautiful emotional moments.

4. What is your favorite season of 5?

Definitely season five. I can’t remember when I really started watching but it’s definitely Chandler and Monica’s relationship that got me hooked. The whole part where they’re hiding their relationship is hilarious and Ross gets so much funnier during that season too.

5. Who is your favorite couple in 3?

Mulder and Scully obviously.

6. Who is your favorite couple in 2?

Willow and Tara 

7. What is your favorite episode of 1?

Sooooo many, mostly related to FitzSimmons. 1x06 is the one who made me fall in love with FitzSimmons and 6x06 kind of was the episode we’ve always wanted as FS shippers.

8. What is your favorite episode of 5?

Sorry @2minutes2midnight“ I’m not trying to steal your answers but it’s also “The One Where Everybody Finds Out” that comes to mind when I think of Friends :D And there’s also “The One With All The Thanksgivings” which is really gold with all the 80′s flashbacks and Phoebe’s memories from other lives :D

9. What is your favorite season of 2?

Probably 5. Glory was a lot of fun, the way they introduced Dawn was perfect and the finale was epic, beautiful and heartbreaking.

10. How long have you watched 1?

Almost from the beginning so about six years. I started when the show was around 1x13, binged it all and was caught up by the time of the big Hydra reveal.

11. How did you become interested in 3?

My sister used to watch it and I was kind of scared at first but since I wanted to stay late at night as well (the first few seasons used to air kind of late on Saturday nights where I live), I started watching and got a little hooked somehow.

12. Who is your favorite actor in 4?

I honestly love them all but probably Zach Braff. Love him in everything I’ve seen him in.

13. Which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5?

Right now, I’d probably say 1 because it’s still airing but the two others are starting to be quite old and I keep coming back to it all the time so I’d have to wait about fifteen years to see if I do the same with AoS and then I can give a proper answer :D

14. Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3 ?

Well X-Files have a lot more seasons (and now we now for sure that it will always be the case :() and I rewatched it all so many times that at some point, I could recite the names of all the episodes by heart (and in the proper order) so yeah, definitely 3.

15. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?

Probably Jordan, I wish I had that much confidence.

16. Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?

That would be quite unlikely but in one of the lighter episodes of X-Files, why not...

17. Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple.

All my ships are either canon or very popular. I don’t know if it’s considered unlikely but I really like Sci&Spies lately <3 

18. Overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5?

Those are very different and X Files definitely has a more complex storyline (although it’s gotten quite messy after season seven) but Friends has been almost perfect all along for me in terms of storyline (except the whole Rachel/Joey thing) so... But still probably X-Files.

19. Which has the better theme music, 2 or 4?

Honestly, I loooooove the music in both but Buffy’s theme music is legendary and so representative of what I love that I have to go with that.

If you have a few moments, and are so inclined, would you consider spearheading a discussion, as brief or as verbose as you wish, about the Legendary Garbage Dates? Like, when, what made it a GD, and HOW MUCH of a awkward horrible trash king dumpster fire was Flynn,-aka Charms McGee-during each??? Only YOU can write this in the way it needs to be written.

hoooo okay okay okayyyyyyy

the garbage dates!!!! aka 1x11 was possibly the first Official of the garbage dates, but garcia flynn had been horribly failing to court the woman he has a crush on for so, so many episodes beforehand. so many. let us briefly recap and rate garcia flynn’s romantic efforts extended fart noises.

1x01: wants to talk to lucy in the warehouse by himself. sends a goon to grab her and announce, “flynn wants to talk to you!!” this fails, because somehow this doesn’t make ladies swoon. catches her outside the burning hindenburg that he just tried to blow up. lucy shouts at him that he’s a psychopath who killed his family; he pulls out her journal and tells her that he knows her life story and that they are destined to work together/Do Great Things. then grabs her around the neck and points a gun at wyatt when he arrives, fucks things up horribly, and runs off like a little bitch. 0/10. 

1x02: “we have to stop meeting like this, lucy!!!” on their second meeting, when you know his trash ass loves it, right after shooting at the team/wyatt. lucy is so god damn annoyed with him she just yells, he loves it, but is offended she hasn’t jumped aboard the destroy rittenhouse train yet. later, busts into the box at ford’s theatre, sees her, brain glitches, then shoots her favorite president in front of her eyes, grabs her, throws her on a couch, fucks things up horribly, and runs off like a little bitch. negative eleventy billion/10. i can’t even look at him.

1x03: doesn’t actually get to talk to lucy in this episode. steals a nuclear bomb instead. 0/10.

1x04: strolls up to lucy like a suave motherfucker in his pinstriped suit, stares at her with a “don’t you find me irresistible???” lowered-eyes, puckered-lips gaze while she shouts at him about wernher von braun. gets her caught by nazis, clearly regrets this, fucks things up horribly, and runs off like a little bitch. 0/10.

1x05: doesn’t actually get to talk to lucy again. does not prevent him from, once more, fucking things up horribly and running off like a little bitch, desperately hoping she’ll save his ass. 0/10.

1x06: kidnaps lucy and co, ties wyatt to a chair, threatens to kill him and monologues at him thinking they will be friends, “you still haven’t told them about us, lucy???” trying to sound like they’ve been having some passionate affair through history. delighted and proud when she sets him up with rittenhouse. fails at everything else. 0/10.

1x07: fucks things up horribly and runs off like a little bitch, but offscreen. 0/10.

1x08: doesn’t see lucy, but saves his brother and sees his momma and i will award him exactly one point for it. 1/10. don’t get used to it, flynn.

1x09: clearly just watched everything she and wyatt did so he could copy it when they go on their own undercover date in the 1930s in 2x06. odds of him pulling this off are very low. 0/10.

1x10: OH SWEET LORD. FLIRTS AWKWARDLY WITH LUCY. STARES AT HER ADORINGLY. THEY CHECK EACH OTHER OUT. THERE ARE MOMENTS. SHE EVEN HELPS HIM GET TO RITTENHOUSE AND HE FIGHTS WITH WYATT TO SAVE HER. THEN… NEARLY KILLS JOHN RITTENHOUSE, KIDNAPS HER, DRAGS HER OFF TO THE TIME MACHINE, RUNS OFF ETC ETC, BUT WITH HER. GOD. GARCIA. GARCIA WHY. 2/10.

1x11: the e p i t o m e  of the garbage date. he steals her a dress. in his favorite color. calls her “honey” pretending to be arguing with his wife. takes her for a drink at a table with a fucking little candle and tries to make her actually think he would ever kill her. sends her friends to the murder castle. lets her volunteer for HARRY GODDAMN HOUDINI MASTER OF ESCAPES while gazing at her with red construction paper heart eyes. is somehow surprised when this backfires. negative 100/10.

1x12: doesn’t see lucy, regrets all life choices. 0/10.

1x13: “lucy if wyatt saves his wife i’m single???” 0/10.

1x14: oh. my. god. sees lucy for the first time since the escape in 1x11. promptly orders karl to unhand the wife and gives her aren’t i sultry but obnoxious looks while she orders him not to kill charles lindbergh. only pretends to comply because he is the actual, breathing worst. looks really good in a bomber jacket, though. 1/10.

1x15: GETS RUFUS SHOT??? LIKE. THERE ARE NOT SUFFICIENT NUMBERS IN EXISTENCE TO RATE YOUR FAILURE IN THIS EPISODE. GO SIT IN THE CORNER. GO SIT IN THE CORNER GARCIA. EVEN YOU WITH ROLLED UP SLEEVES AND A SHOULDER HOLSTER BEATING UP A RITTENHOUSE GUY WILL NOT ATONE YOU. NEGATIVE ONE TRILLION/10.

1x16: is a lonely sad disaster hobo in a suit, plays with explosives, cries when lucy preston says one (1) nice thing to him, realizes that oh hey this journal thing was kind of a miracle, imagines her naked, flirts, then gets arrested. bellows at lucy that he will never forgive her. sure, garcia. sure. 1/10.

2x01: “i’ll only talk to lucy.” just. just. no effort. no effort whatsoever was made. 0/10.

2x02: has managed inventive way to talk to crush, gives intel but warns that the next one will cost her. nobody believes him. 0/10.

2x03: lucy tells him they need him and promises to get him out of jail. draws bad pictionary clue 2 seconds later; enjoys most extra day of his recent life during the jail break of his dreams, strolls into the bunker looking like sin and immediately causes sexual crises. enjoys it greatly. 2/10.

2x04: “what my wife failed to mention” and literally everything else. doodling “mr. lucy preston” in his notebooks. will fuck up the world if she tells him to. so in love he can’t see straight. yet again, no effort whatsoever was made, but he did save the wife and manage to be genuinely sweet to her. 3/10.
