Recommending Pokemon Fanfictions!

I’m a huge fan of Pokemon, soooo obviously I read a ton of fanfictions, and since I am pretty good again(mood etc) it is time to recommend some more fanfictions to you!

Lets start with what I regard being an absolute masterpiece:

Eldritch by Taurus Versant

“ There is a monster in the Alola Region. Her name is Moon and she is eleven years old. “

I can’t put it into words really, it follows the story of the sun and moon games, but takes so many memorable and unique takes on Pokémon, that it cannot be compared to your average Pokemon fanfiction. The story is complete since 2019, has 62 chapters and a total of 677k words. Its writing is phenomenal!

You should give this story a chance and don’t stop at 1-2 chapters, give it a proper read! It will not disappoint you I promise!

Alright onto the SIs! Self/oc inserts are my favorite genre so that Eldritch is on top, is an exception! Just tells you how highly I regard that one! Even tho Eldritch is not a self insert.

Lets go with the only completed one of the self/oc insert list:

The Day a Rattata Saved the World by Zombie Cat Scientist

“With a bunch of pound-reject pokemon like a rattata and a blind and deaf eevee, one trainer tries to change the world. A science loving OC-insert reincarnation fic. Warning for briefly mentioned suicide by the OC in past life and violence. “

Honestly when I started reading it I had no idea how good it would actually turn out to be. This story is great! Unlike other stories the chapters are not in “separate” chapters, but it is still divided in parts. I absolutely adore this story and with it only having 30k is short but not disappointing ride! If you want to have a good yet very different read from your normal stories, give this one a read! It is also completed which is a bonus.

Onto the ongoing ones! Tbh on my list really are only the 2 above that are complete, so now I only have those that are still ongoing.

Lets go with the journey fanfictions first:

Borne of Caution by Fuggmann

“An irritated Pokemon might tell you to stop what you're doing. An irritated animal will probably just attack you. After a fiery death, a professional zookeeper who never outgrew Pokemon games ends up in the world of Pokemon. The entire world is thrown onto its side.”

Honestly I hate, that I only recently found this one, because holy shit is it good. It is also held in high regard by the fandom! One of the best Self/OC insert fanfictions out there within the journey fanfictions! As of posting this the story currently sits on 37 chapters with 260k+ words thus far.

They Mostly Live in Minnesota by Spiderc

“ Thomas expected to be able to relax on his day off, but those plans were ruined by a sudden accident. He is transported, not through time or space, but across dimensions to find a version of home that's simultaneously familiar and wildly different. With no leads on how to return home, he does the only reasonable thing: go on a Pokemon journey across the state of Minnesota. “

It is honestly really good! If not on par with Borne of Caution! Tho I may be biased since I read this one first. Trust me this one is really good! Very realistic on how we ourselves would act if we suddenly found ourselves there. Currently has 30 chapter with 180k thus far. Loved this journey fic!

Bro, Do You Even Lift by Stormtide Leviathan

“After a night of partying at university, fraternity member Thad woke up to find himself not where he remembered sleeping. The gym was his temple, but can he make his way through the world of Pokemon? (OC Insert). “

Normally I wouldn’t recommend one that I haven’t finished reading yet, but oh my god, this fic is absolutely hilarious, if you need something so absurdly funny to read, then this one. It had me laughing so much and I am only halfway through the current posted chapters haha Currently has 22 chapters with 105k words.

I became a Vulpix by Anshee-Rose

“A young female student wakes up one day to find herself turned into a grievously wounded vulpix having barely escaped death. After a hectic stay at a pokemon centre, she is adopted by a family and lives on as the oldest daughter's pet. Read on as she tries to adapt to her new life and to uncover the mysteries behind her transformation and her wound. “

Honestly, my absolutely favorite fanfiction and I’ve been following it since it had like less then 10 chapters, always eager to see a new chapter being posted!

The take on turned into a Pokémon, yet neither being a journey nor a pmd fanfiction is quite unique in a way. Still with a mystery that has yet to be revealed too! Currently has 57 chapters and 248k words.

Journey of a Wott by KiliantheDewott

“Martin, a Pokémon trainer from Unova, finds himself transformed into an Oshawott with no real memories from his past. While he has to deal with his new height, Pokémon battles, being a pet and other things, he slowly learns what actually happened to him. “

Not really a self insert. It is nothing compared to the previous fanfictions I recommended but it is still a nice light read. That and I am also the comic artist of it! So biased all the way! Fanfiction.net has only 36 chapters with 34k words, but on deviant art Journey of a Wott has about 50+ chapters even if it hasn’t been updated in a while. If you like smaller chapters that are nice and easy to read than I recommend this one.
