It had been so long since she last saw any sight of the boy of her dreams. Wait, did she really just think that?! Well, maybe she was more in love with him than she thought she was. As much as the auburn-haired girl believed that distance did make the heart grow fonder, she certainly hadn't realized how bad the note they parted on was. What kind of idiot leaves on a note like a hypothetical rejection?! If she lost him for good because of that, it was her own, deserved, karma! She deserved every bit of moping and crippling loneliness that she had experienced lately!

As if the gods above pitied her for being miserable for so long, the crowd of students in front of her parted to give her a glimpse of a back she could never mistake for someone else. Could it really be? Before she could even talk herself out of her own desperation and need for this person to be the guy she liked, Reanne found herself pushing through the crowd, hoping to catch up to him. Paying no mind to the angered voices cussing her out for her pushiness, the girl forced her way past the mob of people, nearly stumbling over her own feet as she broke into a sprint.

She could barely hear the sound of her rushing footsteps as her pulse pounded in her ears, her breaths heavy and lungs gasping for air as her run finally ended with her colliding into Alex's back like the good old days. The familiar curvature of his spine where she'd rest her forehead and the way her arms easily slipped around his waist to give him the tight hug she always did made her lose every bit of composure. The emotions were welling up and she couldn't stop herself from getting lost in how relieved she was to be reunited.

❝ I-I really missed you, you know! ❞ Reanne hiccuped as tears fell from her eyes and her arms squeezed him tighter. Honestly, it took almost everything to keep herself from breaking into outright sobbing right then and there, but to find herself so utterly moved to see him again—well, she didn't know why exactly with her emotions making zero sense to her as always—but she was so, so very glad to have her treasured person back. She wouldn't dare let him go ever again! She promised herself that much for sure.

❝ I really thought you left forever—that I totally screwed up and you hated me and you decided you'd never talk to me again because of my stupid impulsivity and my reply to— ❞ Reanne couldn't bring herself to remind him of the fact she had implied she'd reject a confession from him if it were real. Although she still didn't have the courage to say 'yes', she didn't ever want to say 'no' to him again for that specific question.

The way her heart hammered in her chest only solidified just how much she truly cared about hearing the answer to the spontaneous question she had given him. Normally, she wouldn’t have felt so anxious, but this anxiety was exactly the symptom that marked her as a girl truly in love. Even now, it was hard to wrap her head around the fact she attached so strongly to a guy like Alex. He was nothing like the guys she had dated before (that was a plus point), and he was someone who seemed like he could accept and love her for all her faults too. Alex was capable of that. He deserved someone better than the disaster she was, and yet...

Heat blossomed on her cheeks as he revealed his answer. He’d accept her feelings. She could feel her ears burn too, like he had whispered the very admission into them. Reanne liked him, of course—she could even say she loved him—but she couldn’t see herself being in a relationship with him just yet. Something was holding her back, likely the fear of it ending just like the last one. If he grew fed up with her need for affection, if he didn’t want to deal with the manifestations of her trauma, her binge-purge habits that she couldn’t stop even if she tried to, if he felt betrayed that he wasn’t her first relationship, if Alex met Elanor, if he liked her more—he’d be gone like the wind.

She was definitely happy to hear he liked her too but even still, she couldn’t commit just yet. She couldn’t clear the air and say she did actually like him right now. There were too many things she hadn’t confessed to yet, like her past romances or the possible elephant in the room with her to-not-be-named approach to food. Reanne knew she was a whirlwind at times and simply did as she pleased, but things like a genuine romantic relationship were hard to picture herself in, for the trauma of her past horrendous ones wasn’t the easiest thing to shake off.

Now, she had felt as if she had played a cruel joke on him. It wasn’t her intention at all. No, it definitely wasn’t when she asked, but now that she found herself wanting to back out it certainly felt that way. The guilt was evident in the way she had lowered her gaze and dropped her smile. 

❝ If you told me that, ❞ the girl slowly started, unsure of how to tactfully express herself. Twirling the ends of her hair around her finger, she couldn’t help but try to avoid the expression on his face, fearing the pained look that might come across it, ❝ I’d say I’m not ready to move forward yet. There’s so many things I haven’t told you that I feel like I’d be lying to you if I accepted your feelings here. ❞

Covered in head to toe with snow, Alex stood outside her doorway with a bouqet of paper flowers, accompanied with a box that was full of all and every plushie he made by hand, except the black cat. "Happy Valentines Day!" He exclaimed, muffled by his scarf. Like a boy, he extended the gifts to her. "I couldn't decide. Please keep all of them." Had it not been for the scarf, Reanne would be subjected to the flustered expression he had on his face.

The last thing she expected this holiday was to be greeted with the sight of her crush at the door. Honestly, she had only gone out to maybe catch that high end dinner deal she saw on a mall flyer, but seeing a familiar dark haired boy standing at her door threw that plan out the window. Considerably baffled by the exclamation—Reanne hadn't expected him to show up at all—the auburn haired girl looked at him speechless. Then a box of crochet dolls and a bouquet of paper flowers was thrust before her.

She couldn't help but peer into the box filled with the cutest renditions of critters in it—a little green frog, a dark blue whale, a yellow octopus, a white rabbit, and lastly a light blue penguin all with those beady black eyes that maximized the cute factor.

Woah, such... cute... crochet dolls!! And the flowers too?

❝ These are... for me? ❞ she murmured in disbelief as she took the flowers carefully from the boy's reddened and cold fingers, a blush blossoming on her cheeks. What was with the sudden spotlight she felt she was under? Gingerly reaching her free hand out towards the adorable light blue penguin doll that was calling her name, Reanne gently wrapped her hand around the delicate craftsmanship, stroking its head with her finger.

Was it just her or was she seriously surrounded by such talented and skilled artist friends now? This little penguin was so cute she just had to cuddle it tonight!! Ahhh! It was such a perfect little thing! She'd keep it on her bed and squeeze it and throw it in the air and— Gosh, she was absolutely smitten with this little guy! And the best part was that the guy she liked was the one who made it! How could it be any better than that?!

Her gaze momentarily returned to Alex, cutting her internal gushing short. Should she reaffirm how she felt about him? Definitely! Clearing her throat, Reanne shyly lowered her gaze to the dolls, fixing her eyes on the little penguin. She began to open her mouth but then her chance slipped away when the boy insisted she take all of them. Huh, wait. S-She couldn't take all of them! That would be— wasn't she only supposed to take one of them? Taking all of them would be rude wouldn't it, even if they were all super adorable?

Pulling her arm back she lifted her gaze to the boy in front of her, the one currently hiding away in his scarf, ❝ Hey! I can't—! ❞ Hold on, Reanne. Tell him your feelings without any doubts this time. Then you can address the other stuff.

❝ Um, I as much as I hate the idea of saying it today of all days... ❞ she slowly trailed off, weighing whether or not it was worth officially taking their relationship to the next level. She could always pretend they got together on a different day if she really hated it that much—not that she was ever good with remembering anniversaries anyway; yeah, that was reassuring—just forget the date and only remember the memory. Looking into Alex's eyes, she grew more serious, her free hand twirling locks of her hair around its fingers, ❝ I want to officially be your girlfriend if you'll let me. ❞

As her gaze lifted, she finally was able to face Alex properly, and it was then she noticed all the snow piling in his hair too. Eyes widening as she realized the amount of snow he was covered with, Reanne scrambled to somehow help him warm up, brushing the snow off his jacket the best she could with her bare hands.

Alarmed at the possibility of him giving himself a cold, the girl abruptly ushered him inside her apartment by tugging at his arms with her hands, ❝ Ah! Come inside before you freeze! ❞ she exclaimed hurriedly, only just realizing how long he was likely waiting out there for her to open the door if not preparing himself for this conversation. She couldn't let him freeze out here! ❝ we can keep talking inside! ❞

NIKO X ANALYN

Mikael was unexpected for sure, but somehow, his presence only made his parents’ lives all the better. He isn’t fully human due to the nature of his genetics, but he still looks extremely human. Reliant on blood for nourishment, he can’t go a day without having a couple ‘juice boxes’. Tomato juice is not an equivalent exchange, unfortunately. However, he can and will enjoy human food.

Appearance wise, he is easily a blend of traits of both Niko and Analyn, having Niko’s naturally unkempt and messy hair and Analyn’s softer, kinder eyes. Although, his eye color is something that most people question, as it is red just like theirs. Thankfully, the contact excuse does work. His skin is quite pale too, often leading for him to get sunburns more often than not. On top of that, he struggles to really gain any weight or muscle, making him hopeless and useless at many physical activities.

A tad bit shy and easily embarrassed, Mikael is the guy some gravitate to for his soft aura and cute appearance. Not to mention, he has never actually given people a reason to not like him in the first place. Helpful and generous, Mikael quickly became a popular favorite amongst his peers. He’s a good study partner and listener for when someone needs to vent. He is a bit of a loner and usually never approaches people of his own accord.

Mikael gravitates towards Analyn, often helping her with the housework and often asks her for some one-on-one time. He isn’t very close to Niko because he finds his father a bit overwhelming (in that he finds Niko’s doting to be super embarrassing if people witness it due to him being in a teenage rebellious phase), although he does try to keep a relationship with him when they do get chances to talk. However, that sentiment is one-sided as Niko heavily dotes on Mikael, makes sure he’s doing okay with day-to-day life, and genuinely enjoys spoiling him with love and affection regardless of Mikael’s rejections. He definitely inherited some of Analyn’s kuu/tsun tendencies.

KORBINIAN X SOLEIL

Whilst unexpected for a relationship to even work out, it somehow happened and Lina was born from the love between Korbinian and Soleil. She is not fully human, as she possesses minor abilities similar to a caladrius such as being able to understand birds, healing minor injuries in no time at all, having a higher pain tolerance, and can potentially live longer than the average human. But somehow, she managed to inherit Korbinian’s abnormally sharp teeth and love for meat. She despises vegetables.

Having striking blonde hair, it seems she takes after Soleil the most. However, Korbinian’s genetics are a bit of a surprise since they are based on his form before he had fallen—that is, he would pass down white/blonde hair colors and brown eyes rather than black hair and blue-grey eyes (on top of other caladrius traits). While Lina has naturally blonde hair, she dyes the lower layers to match her father’s hair. Her eyes are a light brown. Overall, people think that she takes a lot more after Soleil due to their physical resemblances.

Playful and a bit of a troublemaker, she isn’t likely to be on a teacher’s good student list. She tends to be disruptive and does whatever she feels like. Almost boastful of her academic knowledge, she often leaves classes early due to finishing her work and feeling no need to stick around to hear things she already knows. She enjoys the outdoors and being amongst nature, so naturally, she drifts towards spending her time in the woods or taking hikes along scenic trails. 

Lina is quite close with both her parents, though she prefers spending time with Soleil more than Korbinian. While Korbinian won’t likely tell her directly of her non-human abilities, she will get hints telling her she isn’t as human as she thinks she is. And because of that issue, the line between them is hard to overcome, also because Korbinian is more likely to be an awkward parent.

ALEX X REANNE

Like I’ve said before, he is a miracle child. Reanne isn’t likely to be able to have kids of her own, but boy is she beyond happy when she realizes there is this sliver of hope in the form of Kris. There is a bit of a mix of bad and good luck involved though, with Kris being premature to a concerning degree and having to stay in an incubator for months. He also had to go through a lot of facial operations, both mandatory and cosmetic, so he isn’t the most secure with his reflection in the mirror. On the bright side, he is overall a healthy guy and has no health issues whatsoever like doctors claimed he would have.

Known to be easy on the eyes, none of his peers really know how much he spends trying to keep himself presentable and hide his flaws. Similar to how Reanne has a routine of self-care, Kris has one as well, taking a good half hour or so to smooth out his terrible bedheads and cover up freckles. He personally doesn’t like his freckles much, nor does he really like looking at his own face. Though, he has the misfortune of running out of concealer a lot of the time so everyone knows he has freckles.

Normally seen with girls gathering around him or gazing from afar, it’s easy to call him the popular guy. He’s social and cheerful, keeps spirits up and usually is sincere with his words and actions. He actively tries to keep himself in a likeable position. He possesses a good sense of theater and drama/acting to the point the drama club keeps trying to recruit him. However, he suffers academically and has trouble passing nearly every class, and has extreme insecurities about his social relationships (in that he struggles to deepen them/truly bond with people due to his paranoia from past experiences of indirect bullying and old ‘friends’ being instigators of said indirect bullying).

Kris loves both his parents dearly, but he does have a slight bias towards Alex. He finds him easier to open up to about some things because he is less judgmental and quick to reprimand. But he does enjoy shopping trips with Reanne and spending time with her in general. He loves listening to their stories and memories of how they first met and got to know each other, wanting a trusting relationship like that for himself one day.

REANNE X ALEX

Okay but, I doubt she’d really get into the major details (with the exception of Keiran) but I imagine Reanne would tell Alex about her previous partners before they officially start going out, not to put pressure on him, but just so he knows he doesn’t have to try so hard to please her. Because... she’s had shitty boyfriends and she just wants a genuine relationship built on trust and an absence of pretenses. But also, she wants to be open about what she felt in those relationships and fully move on from them (as part of her would probably still be stuck with Keiran and the other matchups until she confides in someone about them more deeply). If she didn’t tell Alex at least about Keiran, she’d feel really guilty about ‘hiding’ her relationship with him. It’s really hard to finally let go of a first love.

Alex saving her from pushy/insistent playboys is practically the norm for them. Reanne will cling to him the instant he approaches them at all—like wrap herself around his arm and not budge. It’s no secret she warmed up to him way too fast, even from her own standards. 

Watch her find excuses to spend more time with him on campus to get to know him better. She’ll go so far to say she sucks at a subject he’s good at so they can meet up for studying. The catch is that she’s actually better than she thinks she is at whatever that subject was.

She almost makes it a game to catch him whenever she sees him on campus. Even if she’s going to be late for class by a minute, she’ll sneak up behind him and wrap her arms around him to say a quick hello.

“I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m actually falling for someone who I don’t find conventionally attractive. But I still find him really cute for some reason. What part of him is cute?” 

But because of that budding affection, she makes more moves to be open with her flaws (such as her prejudice and unjustified hate towards other people). She doesn’t want to lie to him at all and she’d rather let him cut her out if he feels that is the better choice.

Them drinking and Reanne getting herself intoxicated to the point she confesses her feelings for him right then and there—and she remembers it later. She asks to redo her confession at a later date. If Alex brings this up after they are together for awhile, she’ll die of embarrassment.

Uh, most of this stuff I’m going to mention from this point on is after they start going out.

Reanne would soon grow self-conscious about her style, as she chooses to wear outfits that expose more skin than necessary most of the time. Expect her to dial back on her choices and wear actual full-length jeans and higher-cut tops and longer sleeves. She doesn’t want Alex to have negative labels on him because she dresses not-so modestly half the time.

Dates at restaurants—Reanne has a terrible binging habit whenever she goes out to eat (because she only goes out to eat after her starvation periods thus association that she hasn’t eaten in at least three days goes to her head). At first, she’ll try to hold herself back from ordering too much, but then over the course of their time there, she’s already eaten an appetizer plate, two salads, a large entreé with vegetable sides, an extra side of vegetables, and a dessert (or two). She goes pale upon realizing she’s not with Keith or eating by herself and grows extremely ashamed. Good thing she always pays for herself; and no, she’ll never let him pay for her meals. She really wanted to crawl in a hole and die after that.

After that first restaurant date, she avoided going out to them with him for a long while. And she also avoided Alex for a decent chunk of time, even going so far to ignore texts and calls from him.

Expect her to give him her jackets on cold days. Remember, she doesn’t get cold (but then there’s the thing where she doesn’t feel cold but actually touching her skin will reveal she feels like ice). She gets really happy when he does take her jackets, even if they’re small on him. Better idea: they trade one or two jackets just to have some article of clothing that reminds them of each other. Later on, his large hoodie became a part of her wardrobe and she wears it every winter.

Random thing but his name in her contacts list has a heart next to it.

She hates having her hair braided or styled differently than her usual pigtails or even people placing their hands on her head, but watch her grow to love the styles Alex ends up styling her hair into and those headpats. She also grows to enjoy the little moments of him running his hands through her hair or him brushing it out for her.

Reanne is a girl who likes being affectionate with her partner regardless of setting or location. She isn’t going to force it though, so when she realizes Alex isn’t comfortable with more affectionate displays in public, she’ll stick to his preferred level (in his case, simply holding hands, but she’ll give reassuring squeezes throughout their date or outing together). In private, she may try to push her luck a bit and give surprise hugs, try to sit in his lap, lean on his shoulder, close distance, and maybe sneak a cheek kiss or two. But of course, the first time she ever attempts such a thing, she will ask if he’s okay with the gesture in general. If he’s not okay with it, she never tries it again.

Honestly, she’s really chill about dates. They don’t have to go out that much at all. She doesn’t mind if they get cancelled as long as there’s communication involved. At first, she gets a bit upset from being stood up more than once, but after realizing the circumstances behind them, Reanne has stopped feeling so much grievance towards it and instead just confidently reassures him they can go again some other time or spend a night in just watching some show and tending to his wounds.

When they start cohabiting, Reanne is going to do the kitchen work. She wants to impress him by showing off her cooking skills. Breakfast will be generous every morning and she often goes out of her way to make something different each day of the week for variety.

Valentine’s Day is somewhat of a icky holiday for Reanne in their early dating years, so she won’t really try too hard to celebrate it. While she will give chocolates on Valentine’s Day, she won’t really have the holiday spirit. She gets over this eventually as she finally has enough good memories to replace the nightmares of her old dating life.

After a few years, she would consider letting Alex visit her dad, but only after her dad has made his way through recovery and Reanne too has mended her relationship with him to a considerable degree. 

Reanne finds him super adorable when he’s drunkenly affectionate. She has a habit of running a hand through his hair and letting him sleep on her lap in those occasions. 

Alex being the first person she tells when her body is finally normal enough to start menstruating. It’s an awkward thing but she’s so happy she can’t even contain herself. But then cue the next few days and she’s cursing hell on Earth for the pain cramps inflict.

Reanne will cuddle with him nearly every chance she’s allowed to. She is affection-starved and will take as much as she is allowed to from him. She likes to sleep in his embrace a lot.
