Sometimes you need a few days of /not/ writing to get yourself back in the groove. But Bri, I love the way you portray Akechi and all the thoughts you have poured into your interpretation of him. I adore seeing you on my dash and I am seriously glad I reached out to you. Your headcanons really help me understand Akechi better than I have before and I’m always excited to see what more ideas you have to share! Please keep your chin up because you are more than qualified to write him as your muse!
|| SEVERA STOP you’re too sweet to me. ;3; I just...I don’t know what to say. I honestly wasn’t expecting such a response like?? Gosh you’re so incredibly sweet. I’m also so flattered! It makes me feel really warm inside when I can help bring more light and understanding to Goro, or any muse really. It’s such a high compliment to me and I don’t know what I did to deserve that, or you for that matter! Especially considering just how much I adore you and Reanne too. So it means so damn much to me. Thank you. ;3; ♥

concept + non-immediate family & immediate family
MEME ┊accepting.
send me “concept” + a topic for me to talk about a concept design that was scrapped or altered in the final product.
out of character. Thank for sending in this exact topic because I have so many initial concepts and draft ideas— EXCUSE MY GRAMMAR; THERE’S TOO MUCH TO PROOFREAD
Everything is underneath the cut.
To be honest, Keith, Rachael, and Melissa don’t have an actual non-immediate family, going by the definition of non-immediate family being people related to then that aren’t their parents or siblings. Their parents are both only children so they wouldn’t have cousins, uncles, or aunts. Their grandparents are also deceased by this point so they don’t have them either, not that they ever met or knew of their existence in the first place. If anyone had an idea of other relatives, it’d be Melissa, and she already knows that her parents are only children, thus the conclusion of no other relatives except grandparents. At least, not until Melissa starts her own family.
Anyway, as for the actual conceptual ideas… There was a lot of playing around with Keith’s immediate family in terms of siblings and their personalities and gender distribution. There was also some debate I had going on with his dad too. But let’s break it down. I have way too many.
EDIT: there’s a bunch of trivial headcanons in here too, some of which are so general that they also apply to modern verse.
Keep in mind this is mostly main verse related for siblings + parents because I hadn’t even thought of modern verse at that time. For his non-immediate family, those are modern verse based. So for better context, please refer to that verse. I think I got sidetracked somewhere down the line and started talking about ideas and potential canon. /shrugs/
Rachael and Melissa
At first, they weren’t even going to exist. Keith was initially planned to be an only child. But as I constructed his personality, I thought… this sort of character needs to have siblings. It just sounded right.
So the first idea was to give him older brothers. He was supposed to have two of them. Although, I was debating on making him a middle child–but to caution against my own experiences bleeding into his character, I kept him as the youngest. It was supposed to be something like “everyone in the family was capable of working outside the home”. So initially, his mother was more sidelined as a character. He was supposed to admire his father instead. I’ll talk about his parents later.
But then I had the humorous idea of “what if he only had female influences in his life and zero masculine ones?”
And that’s where Rachael and Melissa made their appearances, although, their personalities were so different. They went through so many design changes.
Actually, I had to go through a name change for Melissa. Rachael’s jumped out at me so it’s been the same since her conception.
At first, these two were more gold-digger type characters because they were struggling in finances and that was the easiest route to get cash. Side note: they were actually worse off in earlier drafts–they aren’t poverty level but they were still quite poor. Right now, they’re… I always refer to the Jardine family being slightly/somewhat significantly less well off compared to Reanne’s family’s status, so take that as you will.
But then I hated that idea bc it led to way too much unnecessary angst that didn’t work and–it was a mess. No. So, what actually helped me figure out their current concepts was a certain other family member:
Their mother
The first idea I had for her was literally how she died, well and her appearance. She died of sickness that medicine of that time period and healing magic couldn’t heal (because healing magic can’t heal chronic illnesses). It took me some time to figure out when she died. It went through a few phases.
Initially, she was scheduled to pass way when Keith went on that internship thing. So, Keith wouldn’t have been home when she died. That would leave scars of regret for going, and him beginning to hate his swordsmanship skills because of this.
Then, I had to think: what was the age gap between the siblings? This played into the revised time slot of their mother dying earlier in the timeline. Because I knew Melissa was 19 when she died and that Keith and Rachael appeared to be quite young when this happened, I knew that there was going to be a relatively large age gap.
So, I mulled it over and went… “hmm, 7 sounds about right for Keith because his dad would’ve left a few years earlier than that… and he does vaguely remember seeing that…” and from there I calculated Rachael’s age to be 9 and a half (the half is important!!!!). There, that’s the story of their age gap!
I sometimes even confuse myself as to who first taught Keith all the skills he has. But yes, their mother taught them all how to sew, cook, and clean while she wasn’t bedridden.
She was also conceived to be extremely beautiful and charming. She was also kind and generous, loved by many because of her good heart. Many see her in Keith, especially in terms of his appearance and kindness (despite the way he expresses it). It’s no coincidence. I did it on purpose.
It was a shame she had to die so soon. The people mourned for her, but the family themselves never got to grieve over her properly. Melissa had to step up immediately after that while Rachael and Keith were thrown into that as well.
So really, talking about her is a sore spot for all of them.
Melissa inherited her personality for the most part, though I think it was mainly to fill the void with what their mother would do. Essentially, it’s something like “since mom isn’t here, what would she do?”.
I was on the fence on whether or not Rachael did too. I don’t think she did.
Her hair was really red, and she was the one with blue eyes.
In fact, Rachael’s hair length is the same as hers. Though her mother had a bangless hairstyle while Rachael has an evenly cut fringe.
Keith inherited her appearance basically to a T. He even has the exact same height as her, 5′6″. But remember, I do headcanon he does become as tall as Rachael one day.
She also pierced Melissa and Keith ears when they were infants. Rachael was an uncooperative infant. She would’ve had her ears pierced otherwise.
Their father
He was called out to war or aiding the army in patrols or something like that when Keith was very young, too young to really recall the memory of who he was properly at this point. But, he stayed long enough for Keith to have farming procedures memorized and applied efficiently. That’s the final product.
The initial concept was him being around for a little longer to form some sort of influence on Keith. He wasn’t a good influence per se. It was more of the toxic masculinity thing where he wasn’t supposed to enjoy sewing with his sisters or helping out in the kitchen sort of thing. I mean, it’s medieval ages; that’s probably a common way of raising kids.
But it wasn’t abusive?? He’d voice displeasure about it but he didn’t do anything to stop it because he really couldn’t tear Keith away from his sisters even if he tried.
His hair color was dark brown (potentially with blonde recessive allele) and he also had brown eyes with a recessive blue allele, hence the dark reddish-brown hair he and Rachael have. Melissa inherited his brown eyes and his stature. If you forgot or if I never mentioned this, Melissa is 5′10″ without heels. Rachael is 5′8″ without heels. Yes, the girls inherited the tall genes while Keith didn’t.
Rachael herself (uhh, this is more of a headcanon dump than a concept list bc I already discussed her concept with the grouped heading above)
She was conceived to be someone who stayed in her home village and doesn’t leave it if necessary, wanting to live a peaceful and stable life. This is still accurate by the way.
But, I did make an au where she becomes a songstress/dancer and does some travelling performances. I… never use it in detail.
Oh, she used to be borderline alcoholic. Or maybe it was heavy drinking idr.
She didn’t initially have disordered eating in modern verse but with the solidification of her modeling career, she does. Thankfully, she’s technically recovered, but that doesn’t mean she can’t relapse.
She also wasn’t supposed to be the party girl, but she ended up being one.
Honestly, Rachael is so different in modern verse versus main verse. It’s unreal. I mainly refer to her modern verse self whenever I talk about her though, since modern is my default on this blog.
I knew what her current personality was once I got through the gold-digger idea, but I had to figure out the earlier years and how she got to her current personality. I’m honestly still working on that for both verses.
But I still have a vague thing where she was also caught in the act of having to be a mom as well. Just because she was the middle child didn’t exempt her from that. So, she also had to grow up really fast. She basically had to block out feelings and insecurities and just learn how to do things.
And she was kind of jealous that Keith didn’t have to deal with that himself.
She struggled much more to pick up skills unlike Keith. In fact, it took her 3x more effort in the kitchen to get the same results he got. Yet, once she got the task fully understood, she’d be able to recreate it consistently and perfectly every time after that.
On the other hand, Keith still messes up from time to time, but not by much, so his recreations aren’t always perfect like Rachael’s are.
Melissa herself
She initially had blonde hair in her concept design. Except, her parents didn’t have genes for it. So… how did that work? It didn’t. That’s why I left their father quite vague appearance wise for a long while.
Now, she has naturally light-ish (relative to her siblings, it’s lighter) reddish-brown hair, and she dyes it blonde in modern verse.
Melissa was initially named Serena. It took me a couple months to figure out what to change it to.
Other than that I really have nothing else because even now she’s still very vague in terms of literally everything I haven’t talked about.
Err, see this post for everything I do have.
OH RIGHT–SHE DIES IN MAIN VERSE I TOTALLY FORGOT THAT WHOOPS
she’s alive in modern though because modern medicine saves her.
Ryan (Melissa’s husband) concepts + actual headcanons/applications
Took me forever to think of an appearance
I know he has black hair and brown eyes. He’s taller than Melissa for certain.
Personality wise, he’s kinda like the chill dad or something. Accepting and the listener type. Definitely good at providing an environment to talk about deep troubles.
His occupation was debatable for awhile in modern verse. But in main verse, he was an employee at a local market where the Jardine family got their goods (and that was where Melissa met and got to know him).
In modern verse I was juggling with ideas of him being a psychiatrist, maybe a teacher–I’m leaning towards some sort of counseling job, private practice maybe.
He was more likely to dote on Keith a lot while he was a little bit more serious with Rachael. Now he’s more strict with both of them. (because the doting fell upon a different npc–Rachael’s boyfriend lol)
He’s actually kind of awkward, but he does mean well for his family.
Initially he was the same age as Melissa but I now bumped him up one year.
Alice (Keith and Rachael’s niece/Melissa’s daughter) + headcanons
literally everything I have about her is here.
Though I think she takes after Melissa a lot now that I’ve realized some things by writing this post in the first place.
wait, I remembered things. Okay, so in MAIN VERSE, she is super mature because her mom died and she didn’t grow up with her. She only had her somewhat awkward dad to rely on and she just didn’t know how to deal with life???
she had Keith and Rachael as influencers growing up and those two are more mature than they should be for their age–so she kinda caught it from them despite the fact they keep telling her to act a little bit more childish.
Both Keith and Rachael see some of themselves in her, so it really hurts them when she is upset or crying.
She is the extremely loved child in their entire family. Everyone loves her. If you do not love her, things will burn.
Alice is the nice kid. She’s nice to everyone and I think she got that from Keith. She loves him so much–she admires him so much and looks up to him
tbh, Alice is the main reason Keith continues and tries to grow as a person. He wants to be a good influence for her and he knows he has bad habits and qualities. He doesn’t want Alice to pick those up. But that doesn’t mean he’ll acknowledge half his problems.
Alice is the person that can reach both Rachael and Keith when they’re in their slumps. They will literally be able to pull themselves out just because she talked with them so bluntly–child innocence has its wonders.

Broken Promises
Summary: Because Noah’s not the only one blaming themselves for Jane’s death.
Notes: Written because my heart broke when we see Jane fighting with MC before she dies and never getting to make up. It’s a headcanon of mine that MC specifically shut out Noah because he reminds her of how she broke her promise to protect Jane.
Refers to flashback scenes from ILITW and MC is named Reanne in this, though you can just substitute the one time her name is used with a different name. (Also, was mostly written before the heartbreak that is chapter fourteen, but I finished it to cope with what PB threw at us)
If your friends and family were asked to describe you, they’d all say that you were fiercely loyal. Your love came in the forms of loud words of encouragement, soft and subtle touches on the shoulder, reassuring hugs, motivational pep talks, clenched fists in the face of danger, and a reliable presence. You are the glue of the group, the protector of the pack, and your friends count on you to watch their backs.
But in your heart, you still feel that burdensome, soul crushing weight of guilt. No matter how much you try to make up for your failures, you will still reap the consequences of your inaction, your distance. You have failed many times and many friends, but no failure weighs more heavily on you than that of your broken promise to sweet baby Jane.
She was your best friend. You did everything together, and no one appreciated and admired you like Jane. Some kids found your friendship to be overbearing and clingy, found you to be too pushy. Jane saw your overwhelming protectiveness for what it was and made you feel valued. You were only a kid, but Jane made you feel like your power to protect was even stronger than the adults’.
It was this feeling of invincibility that drove you to gift Jane with her whistle. “Blow it whenever you feel scared,” you had said to her, “and I’ll come running to protect you!”
(PrOmIsE bReAkEr)
You had been furious during that fateful fight when Jane had put those unrealistic expectations on you, and you still have no idea who was hurt more at the realization that your power to protect was limited: Jane or yourself.
(“PrOmIsE bReAkEr! Reanne is a pRoMiSe bReAkEr!”)
Those foreshadowing words she had angrily hurled at you in front of the rest of your friends continue to haunt you. You had denied them at the time, but they were shoved back into your mind while Mr. Red held you down- held all of your friends down- as you could only watch Jane die, your scream trapped in your throat.
(PrOmIsE bReAkEr PrOmIsE bReAkEr PrOmIsE bReAkEr)
After her death, you thought endlessly about how you failed Jane. You never told the psychologist your parents had you see shortly after the “accident”, but you came to the realization that you had broke your promise to protect Jane shortly after you had made that promise.
It had been your hubris, your pride that led you two to awakening Mr. Red. Jane had been content to throw pebbles at the force field, but you convinced her to enter the house, assuring her that you would protect her. You were the one who brought Mr. Red into everyone’s lives.
(PrOmIsE bReAkEr PrOmIsE bReAkEr PrOmIsE bReAkEr PrOmIsE bReAkEr PrOmISE BrEaKeR PROMISE BREAKER PROMISE BREAKER)
For the longest time, you couldn’t get those words to stop looping around in your brain. They grew louder whenever you looked at Noah. He had been a fellow protector of Jane, and even though your shared grief should’ve made you closer, you pulled away. You couldn’t swallow the overwhelmingly bitter taste of guilt in your mouth, let alone help him with his.  You should’ve knocked on his door, weathered the hate and blame in Noah’s mom’s eyes, but you’re too weak.  You stay away from Noah and watch from a distance as your friends do the same (and that will be your downfall).
(PrOmIsE bReAkEr PROMISE BREAKER PROMISE BREAKER PROMISE BREAKER PROMISE BREAKER PROMISE BREAKER PROMISE BREAKER)
It’s ten years later, and try as you might, you can’t undo or make up for your failures. You’ve learned your lesson and make promises very sparingly, only making ones that you know you can keep. You promise to be there for your friends, to help make things different this time around. You swear to yourself that you will do anything and everything to protect your precious friends.
But in the end, you’re just a pRoMiSe bReAkEr.

Reanne has a very hard time actually taking the step into dating someone new. Even if she likes someone romantically and/or harbors desires to be romantically intimate with someone, she will always find herself hesitating to actually want to be a girlfriend to someone. Even if she confesses feelings, she feels dread and fear when thinking about actually taking the next step to confirming the dating status; Reanne will take her confession back in nearly all cases. As much as she says she is over her past relationships, she really isn’t. She still hasn’t gotten proper closure for trauma she experienced growing up and dating is very much included in that trauma.
The fact that she hasn’t actually let go of her hair ribbons (gifted to her by an ex-boyfriend she did love) and still gets emotionally worked up if she loses or tries to change them for a different pair speaks volumes. Her heart and mind are simply not ready to dive into a new relationship no matter how much she might actually love someone.

Reanne acts like someone who has moved on from trauma and taken steps forward, but she very much is someone stuck in the past. She can’t leave the memories and that’s why her therapy hasn’t actually resulted in that much change to her conduct. She still lives with semblances of spite, needing to get back at both her sister and her father for the expectations they forced her to fulfill and her mother for treating her like garbage. She wants to get back at all her ex-boyfriends for treating her the way they did, and she can’t let go of it all.
Sure, she is more functional than before, but the root cause has not been completely unrooted yet. She still hasn’t let go of all the emotions linked to old memories and experiences, and those are what make her cycle through the same coping methods she used back then.

ngl, it's definitely canon at this point that the few paintings she has hung up in her room are commissions from Keith or paintings she bought from the one art sale he had to clear out old paintings. She adores his paintings a lot and they really help calm her down when she looks at them. She has one featuring a calming beach on a sunny day, another one with a dainty flower field in the woods with speckles of sunlight streaming in, and an amusement park with a Ferris wheel, colorful tents, and a bunch of balloons with a soothing ambiance that doesn't make the painting feel loud and chaotic.
Pictures and paintings of settings that aren't ones she frequents tend to distract her/change her train of thought if she's in a bad headspace, and why not use that to her advantage when her bestie is top tier at painting scenery that somehow inspire awe or evoke calmness and serenity? She claims that feeling is due to how much care he puts into each painting, but he doesn't really seem to see it the same way.
Other photos on her wall are basically random food photos she took but she normally takes them off after a time otherwise she starts craving—which could potentially lead to binging behavior. If she doesn't have food photos up on the twine strings that connect the paintings, then she really just has those three paintings up. Her walls are quite bare because she doesn't have much to hang up to begin with.

send me  ( inspiration  )   for my muse to talk about someone they knew as a child who inspired them to be who they are, currently for Reanne?
MEME ┊selectively accepting.
Here she was dining at her favorite place with a stranger, and yet she didn't mind blabbing to them about her problems. Well, that was how she had always operated, but considering how she had been spending most of her time alone as of late, it was weird to have someone to share a meal with at all. Somehow, they had gotten to talking about family and how they looked up to certain members—and of course that meant the question would be returned to her.
Did anyone from your childhood inspire you to be who you are today?
Tumblr media
❝ Childhood? I hardly remember stuff from back then! ❞ she automatically retorted, clutching a bunch of her hair as she threaded her fingers through the pulled back strands. The habit of saying the first thought that ran through her head seemed to not have died off yet. So many times she had been told and guided through the process of stopping these yet the girl found herself failing to hold the words back anyway. Maybe she was beyond repair; that would seem to be the case with how long she had been going to therapy with such minimal changes in her day-to-day conduct.
Taking a sip of her drink through the straw, Reanne tried to recall the faces of people she did interact with in the past, ❝ I didn't even have friends back then either. The only people I knew were my shitty dad and she-who-shall-not-be-named. Oh, and my non-existent, cheating trash heap of a mother and the man she ran off with. ❞
And she couldn't say any of them were sources of inspiration in the conventional sense of the meaning. If anything, they were more like... what was it... err, reverse sources of inspiration? Whatever the concept was—her family was everything she didn't want to be. Except the problem was she seemingly took too much after her drunk-ass father, ranging from emulating his temper, the drinking problem, the biases, the extreme stances... the list could go on.
Leaning back into the booth, she thought back to all those fairy tales and shoujo manga she used to read... Nah. Those didn't count. All those did were make her hate that girl more than she already did and severely ruin her perception of self.
After what seemed like far too long of a silent moment, Reanne averted her gaze as she sat forward and straightened out her posture, ❝ I guess you could say my family became representative of everything I despise? I dunno if that counts as inspiration when I want to be the complete opposite of them. ❞
Picking at her food (for once!), she continued, ❝ Like, I don't wanna be someone who ends up in a loveless marriage, chained to the bottle as a desperate means to escape the hell of reality—I don't want to be that girl who cheats on her partner because she can't say things aren't working out. Things like that. ❞
Hopefully that was an acceptable answer?

Reanne literally does not remember how she managed to get through her last two years of high school or how she even got into uni. She’s just like “I dunno what I did, but I’m here.” Almost everything after that underage drinking event is TV static in her head.

I think part of the reason Reanne cannot move on or get better is because she has not replaced traumatic old memories with newer ones that don’t trigger her malicious coping methods. She hasn’t replaced old memories of fighting with her father with new ones or civil conversation. She hasn’t replaced painful memories of past relationships with a healthy new one.
So she keeps referring to old memories even though they are severely outdated. They still feel very recent in her head. The fact that the last time her father had punished her or yelled at her or even her old boyfriend had criticized her happened many years ago hasn’t sunk in at all.

D   :   DATE.   what is your muse’s ideal date? where / who with / etc?
MEME ┊accepting.
Answers are under the cut due to length. Content warning: mentions of disordered eating/binge episodes
Reanne is typically up for most traditional ideas of dates whether it be going to amusement parks, the zoo, the beach, a nature trail, cafés, movie theaters, and so on. As mentioned in this ask, wherever her partner wants to go, she’ll give it a try if she doesn’t feel strongly against the idea. There are so many places she hasn’t been to. It’s probably surprising to hear she really hasn’t been to many places other than the multitude of cafés and diners, but it’s the truth. Her father never took her to the attraction, fun places as she was growing up, so going to the park or zoo is probably a huge thing for her, something she really wants to check off her list of places to visit at some point in her life.
Although, going for food/places with lots of food stalls can easily backfire and thus should only be considered if Reanne brings it up first or does the inviting on that front (or at least give her a heads up a few days beforehand so she can mentally prepare herself). She still has her issues with her disordered eating habits and they can really drive a wedge in future relationship development should she start feeling shameful and avoidant because she couldn’t stop herself from binging in front of someone she doesn’t want to look like a complete disaster to. Honestly, if someone were to want a date centered around food, it’d be best to first try taking her to a place she is comfortable/familiar with or keep it less stressful by having a meal at home/something homemade so she doesn’t end up depleting her entire wallet (AKA binging out of habit) based on stress/anxiety/situation-induced impulse.
But really, Reanne’s ideal date is more lax and low-key than one might expect from someone as loud and demanding as she is. She likes savoring small moments and being allowed to be delicate with her partner or let them be delicate with her. Plus, she doesn’t want to have to force herself to keep her barricades up (forced confidence to mask insecurity, blabbing to avoid awkward silences she can’t stand, not having to worry about appearances as much or stress over her freshening up routines, etc.). If anything, watching a movie at home and snuggling under the blankets with her significant other as the light outside dims is the best kind of date for her. The movie could be terrible or they could be talking nonsense while not bothering to pay attention to it and Reanne would still think it’s the best date ever.
Dating is something of a mystery for Ryder. What that means is that he has no idea what makes a date feel like a date. He will be hesitant on getting any part of it wrong and gets stressed when things don’t go to plan. In his head, dates are usually something really thought out and have to go perfect for the other person to even consider continuing the relationship at all. He will fish for information regarding places his partner might like to go (he may or may not be subtle about it), and he’ll definitely try to make sure the whole day is something they find to be the ideal date. Ryder is definitely the type to show up with some sort of gift for each date, whether it be something he bought beforehand or something he snagged during the outing itself (he would hand make things if he was actually good at that sort of thing). He has a strong belief that just spending time with him isn’t worth enough so obvious a gift will make the outing worth it, even if it wasn’t enjoyable (again, boy is very self-depreciative and has very low self-worth/esteem).
If someone were to ask him his own preferences, he’d honestly not be able to get words out, both because he has no idea and because someone actually cares about his wants and needs. Additionally, he never really has free time for himself due to him constantly studying and/or working, so he hasn’t been out for the sake of enjoying himself at all. But if forced to say something, he would say his ideal date would simply be going to the library or a bookstore, as those are literally the only places he frequents enough to not get overly anxious/stressed about unexpected happenings ruining things.
Larisa is direct about her preferences and feelings and is not shy about voicing them even in a romantic context. She is capable of saying cheesy lines and fluffy things, but it’s never in a cheesy way as her way of speaking is overly blunt as always (although, in the beginning stages, it’s more likely she’ll end up tongue-tied and be unable to voice much of anything—she needs a generous adjustment period). Typically, she wouldn’t allow someone to ever hang out with her for long periods of time (anything more than an hour’s duration; an hour and a half is pushing it), and thus will always make excuses to leave before her spirit “companion” decides to feast on the poor unsuspecting soul that is her outing partner (plus, exposing said partner to her passive abilities for anything longer than that can lead to more long-term effects which she wants to avoid).
Because of this, her ideal date would be something akin to short outings, like a picnic over lunch and parting ways afterwards or making a short trip to the store/mall to pick up things/run errands and split ways once those things are done. It helps that Larisa is heavily introverted by nature, so not many people get offended when she does propose splitting for the day, as many assume she simply needs to recharge her social battery.
Like Reanne, Niko is not that keen on going to certain places, simply preferring to go wherever the mood tells him to. He simply acts in the moment when it comes to hanging out with others and doesn’t particular care for the type of activity as long as it doesn’t trigger any sort of trauma or craving for blood (so avoid things like arcade shooting games for example or watching horror movies with a lot of blood). As mentioned in this ask (same as the one linked in Reanne’s answer), it’s likely for Niko to have all these outings scheduled for dusk and nighttime hours due to his nocturnal nature. Although, if his partner is someone who lives in the day, he will try to adjust to them and make himself operate underneath more reasonable hours for them.
Dates he enjoyed in the past are dates he would likely avoid in the present, because the life he left behind is still filled with painful and horrific memories. However, Niko still very much enjoys being in more nature-esque places like little cabins in the woods or going on hiking trails to get the familiar feeling of back home. All the modern cityscapes and lights really make him feel out of place. If anything, his ideal date would probably be something like stargazing out in nature, catching a late-night outdoor play/performance, or simply hanging out at some out-of-the-way, small playground to simply talk and enjoy the time spent together. On rare occasions, he might be willing to work with his partner to forge/craft something together, but only if he actually feels like working with the materials at all (the hobby is slowly dying due to letting go of Amelia).
Marcel, on the other hand, is very much a dates-at-home type of person. He doesn’t like going out on romantic outings much at all, as he doesn’t really like being lovey-dovey in public... because that’d be showcasing a part of himself he makes an effort to hide from most people. While he can compromise and have dates outside, he typically associates them with more superficial appearances and not much worth. This is probably because of how he has his questionable “romantic” relationships (which have lowered drastically due to the girls catching onto the fact he has someone he can’t let go of) and also the way he automatically shifts to a more guarded version of himself when he is out and about outside his house. On top of this, he simply feels more comfortable showcasing his affection in private spaces, if the way he acts with Karoline is any hint at all.
It wouldn’t be unexpected for many to assume Marcel would prefer watching romcom movies with his partner, but that’s honestly the last thing he’d want to do with them. Rather, his ideal date would be some sort of cooking or baking activity, just messing around with recipes in the kitchen and having fun with the whole process (and discreetly scratch the itch to mess with flames in the process). Even if cooking isn’t necessarily a hobby of his, it’s still a fun way to interact and get to know how someone works, in a way. The cooking process also helps him deal with his own awkwardness and stupidly dumb way of self-sabotaging, as he’d be explaining how to make something rather than ruin the whole conversation.
Similarly, Lian is all about the fun in bonding time, even if nothing turns out right. He doesn’t mind being dragged out to stores or places he’s never been to despite all his potential complaining about wanting a heads up about things—he does prefer some notice so he can properly contribute to the outing. Like, he hates having to feel like he doesn’t do enough, and with how selfless and giving he is by nature, having someone else do most of the work makes him feel guilty because he clearly hasn’t done much on planning the date himself at all.
Honestly, Lian is not the best when it comes to relationships. He doesn’t think things through that much and he struggles to understand and figure out the right thing to do due to the disconnect of not being human and thus not fully understanding how this all works (10 years is not enough to figure out these things, okay). However, he certainly feels drawn to more... spiritual(?)-like places? Like places where you can connect with yourself and simply meditate or introspect, places that are calming and therapeutic in nature. As such, his ideal date would likely be something like making candles together at those candle-making places or making charmed accessories. Natural hot springs and spas or temples/shrines are options as well.
Randel is a different story altogether. He is very much about having things go his way only and prefers to do things he likes to do and make others go along for the ride. So really, dates are all spontaneous and filled with chaotic shenanigans. It’s either somehow having a chill time at some small place where he uses up coupons before they expire or there’s an impromptu mall trip so he can have an excuse to dress someone up in the stupidest attire possible. In short, he is very much a fun-lover and hates having people dictate how he has fun.
Although the vibe changes a lot if we consider his main verse rather than modern AU. Instead of coupon efficiency and stupid shopping trips, he chooses to show something more personal to them. He might take them along with him while he goes spirit hunting to show off for a little bit or he’ll simply plop a gift into their hand and run off again before they can even get him to stick around for a proper date. Again, with his curse still being a thing, he can’t ever be so explicit about showing his feelings so the most he can do is at least have them around for a little bit extra time.
Except, none of these are his actual preferences. Randel’s ideal date is more intimate and private. In a way, it’s similar to Reanne’s way of wanting close contact and to let down his walls for just a little while. As mentioned in this ask (same link as before), he is very much a night in type of person, and he very much wants to keep the time and place for him and his partner only; he would hate it if any part of that moment was shared outside of himself and his partner, as that would make him feel extremely violated. Although the activities would be completely innocent and mundane, the high-level of privacy usually makes people think something more is going on. Really, all he really wants to do is laze around in his partner’s company, rest his head on their lap or lean on their shoulder—anything to savor contact and the feeling just a little longer.

E   :   EMBRACE.   does your muse like hugs? what are their hugs like?
MEME ┊accepting.
Answers are under the cut due to length.
Larisa is almost desperate for human contact. She wants that kind of contact, but her abilities make indulgence impossible for the most part. Should she actually have the opportunity to embrace someone or be embraced, the girl would likely find every opportunity to get herself out of there, as she is still heavily set on blaming herself for her parents’ death (which was a result of a hug she initiated) and doesn’t want the same thing to happen to someone else she cares about. It’s almost a given she would have to be forced into a hug whether or not she is given one or giving one—at least until she no longer possesses such harmful abilities in the first place (which will be never).
Though, if she were to give a hug, she wouldn’t really touch the other person, arms hovering just around their body, too hesitant to really take the plunge and actually embrace them. The closest she can get is simply an almost, so the comfort a hug gives will always feel so far away. If someone were bold enough to embrace her despite the risks, they may feel her yield to their will and let herself be held for a little while; she’ll crumble in their arms but at least she can finally have a place to let herself break without losing the remaining fragments of herself she has left.
While she may struggle to give hugs and receive them, Ryder is more accepting and receptive to them, despite his awkwardness with hugs. Ryder’s hugs are hesitant and somewhat inconsistent in strength—the way his arms barely can hold themselves still and the awkward clutching of fabric of the receiver’s clothes are clear signs he doesn’t really know how to approach giving someone such an intimate gesture. Hugging someone, for him, is almost like an admission of just how tired he is or how much he cares for someone else. The boy hates imposing on others, and hugs are often a breach of personal space, so to be giving one probably means a lot more than it looks—it probably took him a lot of mental pep talk to get himself to initiate it in the first place.
Even though Ryder is receptive to the idea of hugs, getting them still makes him tense up and panic. He isn’t used to affection nor reassurance, the two things he perceives hugs to be. Ryder will be frozen for a moment, but in no time at all, he has already shifted to relaxing and savoring the contact, carefully returning the embrace and softly hugging the other person back as if to convey his thanks.
Reanne, as we all know, is highly affectionate and adores the act of hugging and also loves receiving them. She literally will hug people on impulse and doesn’t hesitate to really hug them tight, to give them a good squeeze to make sure they really got the benefit of such intimate contact. She thrives off this type of contact herself, so you bet she’ll find opportunities to be giving hugs left, right, and center. Her hugs have varying feels, depending on her mood and surrounding context. Her default ones have a strong start, her wrapping her arms tightly before loosening up to give some breathing room. Her hugs on bad days will be loose and hardly connected, simply because she’d rather be embraced instead. But typically, she’ll hug someone tight for a second then let go as a greeting, unwilling to tempt fate by forcing someone to stay in a hug for too long.
When on the receiving end, Reanne’s preferences tend to change depending on her mood. Usually, she’s fine with any type of hug whether it be a quick and fleeting one (she’ll vocally wish it was longer though), or a good squeeze and a few seconds of savoring. On bad days, she prefers secure hugs, meaning she wants to feel like she is protected while in the embrace, held tightly so that she had no chance of falling—so that if she were to become emotionally overwhelmed or frozen, she’d still be standing with no fear of her legs giving out on her.
Randel doesn’t do hugs. They are not his thing. Physical intimacy like that is not him whatsoever. He will not engage nor be willing to receive such an atrocious act. The closest he’ll ever get to a hug is draping an arm over someone’s shoulder and pulling them close or sneaking an arm behind their back to place his hand on their waist. He won’t ever fully embrace someone. That is simply something that does not happen.
Should he end up being embraced though, he’ll break—in more ways than one if we go by main verse. His body is extremely fragile despite how seemingly invincible it is. The force of a hug would likely break a couple ribs or his spine, even if done with utmost care. It’s almost as if his creaking and snapping bones are warning him that he’ll die if he lets the gesture affect him at all. And yet the man finds himself unable to push them away. Part of him threatens to break from the emotions welling up—the little child inside who always craved something like this—while the other desperately fights to keep himself from showcasing this and rejecting the gesture by pushing away. It takes a few seconds but Randel will definitely have pushed them off for his own good. Expect a lot of petty stabbing after that stunt is pulled. In modern AU, he acts the same, however his body won’t break (of course), and his payback will instead be extremely uncalled for behavior towards the person who hugged him, to the point he could break the relationship entirely.
Likewise, Marcel is in a similar boat. He isn’t one to express affection through hugs. He is the type to feel uncomfortable with the gesture itself, thus he doesn’t really initiate them nor does he enjoy receiving them. He also seems to have the mindset of “being too old” for them as well, viewing hugs as something only kids would be willing to indulge in (though this very well could be Marcel being a jerk to cover up the fact he probably actually is in desperate need of one). If really necessary, he’ll give a half-assed attempt at it, loosely wrapping a single arm around their side and holding them for a few seconds.
When on the receiving end, the man might as well have turned into stone. He doesn’t move, he doesn’t seem to blink; he is basically like a deer in headlights, struck with a budding anxiety and nerves that prevent him from loosening up at all. He never realizes how much time passes at all and every second in the embrace feels like forever. Marcel is incapable of letting himself unwind and accept the gesture, unable to indulge in it, but the second the other person removes their arms, he is all too quick to reach out and pull them into a proper embrace this time—tightly holding onto them for dear life as if the hug they gave him was somehow a parting away forever message.
Lian isn’t that dramatic, thankfully, but he’s not exactly the type who really gets the idea of hugs either. He understands some people like them and some don’t. In fact, romantically affectionate gestures are still something he’s trying to understand better. However, he does pick up on when people might want one and is thus willing and eager to give them out. It also creates natural opportunities for him to subtly take on a stubborn person’s injury as well. As a result, his hugs start gently and cautious, as if testing to make sure it’s okay to go full force before fully enveloping someone within his arms. People who have been hugged by him have always remarked how it feels like they’re being comforted by soft, feathery wings.
Similarly, the caladrius is all too welcoming to receiving hugs as well, never saying no to the gesture and always willing to accept them as they come. He is a soul that craves physical contact, so hugs do a lot to alleviate the childish tantrums he might pull should he not get enough contact (though, this may also be the way his natural “haven’t done enough work” alarm takes form as well, due to the contact method he uses to do it). People have enjoyed embracing him simply because he makes them feel all warm inside and somehow it makes them all feel so much better than they were a few seconds ago. Healing aura for the win it seems.
Niko is a bit of the conflicted type, as hugs are a bit of a mixed bag for him. On one hand, he doesn’t mind, but on the other, he does mind. In a way, he is similar to Reanne in that his stance on hugs is dependent on his mood and the surrounding context. On most days, he doesn’t mind, but should he be trapped within the confines of his memories, the contact may not be taken well. Niko is more of the type to be on the receiving end of hugs, as he is well aware his body isn’t exactly huggable material. He knows it is off-putting for various reasons, so he’d never put someone through that if he didn’t have to.
But to be hugged is a different story. It tells him that it’s okay to initiate a hug in the future should he need one. Hugs are comforting to him in almost every scenario, given that he is in a calm state, and he won’t hug back unless he knows it’s okay and the other person won’t feel disgusted with how he does feel (after all, he is a husk of flesh, bone, and remains). Should he be affected by the rage spurred by intense blood cravings, it won’t help him at all—rather it only invites him to tear into that person’s flesh to drain them of their precious blood, which can be extremely dangerous as he won’t be able to pull away and could lead to death.

The funny thing about Reanne’s boy-crazy aspect is that she finds so many guys attractive it’s like “is there any guy you DON’T find attractive?” lol
But really, as long as said guy takes good care of himself, she'll find him worthy of being eye candy. In her eyes, as long as you maintain your health, you are beautiful no matter what, because beauty comes in all shapes, forms, and sizes.
