It was not quite a circle, but a cog [...] Shadowheart gripped Asheera's wrist to steady herself. The cog's heat flashed on her cheek, glowing subtly with a faint red light. "A paladin without her oaths is nothing," said Asheera. "Without you, I am less than nothing. A cog without its matching pair."

I commissioned this from the lovely @raynhoro! It's my sweet Tav — Asheera (she/her) — making an oath to protect Shadowheart after the events of the House of Grief from one of my fanfics. She's been drawn so well, and her calm focus here matches exactly what I had in mind when I wrote Bend to Break to Mend last year.

Playing Sober

summary: you have to deal with a very drunk elvis on the car ride home from a party and somehow avoid his momma. drunk!elvis x reader

“Oh but lemme- lemme tell you ‘bout Y/N, shoo-wee! When I-I tell you, thas a-a woman, God- a mighty!” With his seat reclined back and his hands raised Elvis was tracing small shapes on the ceiling of the car. “She’s so nice, but-but don’t be trying to put no moves on-on me..” Elvis said as he pushed his hand against your cheek, “Cause if you try,” he let out a hiccup, “You try and kiss me- I’ll whoop your ass and so will Y/N.” “Oh will you now? I am driving you home through so let’s keep all that to a minimum, yeah?” You reply as you start the car up.

Elvis stares back at you blankly for a moment, “I-I am serious!”

Nodding your head you watch as he fiddles with the handle of the car, “Uh-uh don’t mess with that.” He eventually left the door handle alone and soon resulted to singing very loudly, “Oh I loveeeee myy Y/N…. She is sooo beautiful and I love herrrrrr, my y/n my y/n. Woahhhhhhhhh….. she is very pretty and niceeeee..” He turned to look at you with a dopey grin, “Did ya like that?” “It was amazing, baby.” You say as you reach over to stroke his face.

“Woman! I done told you- I am dating Y/N!” He yanked away from you. “Well why don’t you tell me about her?” You ask as you begin to drive back to Graceland. Elvis smiled big and he pressed his hands against his cheeks, “Gosh she’s so cute, she does this thing when she laughs so much she just she can’t stop laughing she’ll laugh so hard tears are just rolling down her cheeks- ain’t nothing even funny but Y/N will laugh. Oh when she’s mad she,” he hiccuped,”will cross her arms and sit away from me, I know she does it cause she wants attention but if I give it to her then she is going to be overwhelmed. Oh when she gives me these little kisses when she does it all over my face, man shit I feel like I died and went to heaven. You just- the-the way she smiles-“ he pauses a moment and laughed, now resting his head on the center console.

You smiled softly as he continued to ramble, “Oh well she sounds amazing,” you said as you pulled through the gates of Graceland.

“Mhmmmm.” He hummed to himself, the soft glow of the outside lights hitting his skin. “You kinda look like her, know that?”

“Oh yeah? That’s funny, hey why don’t we get you inside and we’ll see if Y/N is home,hm?” You say hoping to coax him out in his drunken state. The lights in the house flip on lighting the entire front porch and a portion of the lawn up. The warm glow filled the once empty space. “Shit.” You mumbled under your breath as you watched someone walking through the living room.

“Why are we saying shit? I know lots of words- shit, bitch, fuck you- ooh that would be a good song! Fuck you bitch you broke my heartttttt.” Elvis wailed out into the darkness. His drunk giggles mixed with his singing only made it harder for you to pull him out of the car.

“Elvis stop- your momma is inside and she’ll kill you if she knows your drunk!”

Elvis’s eyes went wide, “I am not drunk, I am completely sober.” He whisper yelled as he haphazardly leaned against the open car door. He pushed off of the door and began to stumble towards the front door, “Mommaaa” He hollered out into the darkness.

Quickly you shut the door and grabbed his arm pulling him down to your level, “Elvis- it’s 3 am we have to be quiet,” you said softly- almost as if you were talking to a child. Elvis giggled and shook his head, pulling a finger up to his lips, “Shh.”

“That’s right, now come on- we got to get you inside.” You guided him towards the front door, “How much did you have to drink tonight, mister?” You asked as you adjusted under his deadweight.

“I am not drunk, I am there soberest there ever was.” He said matter of factly. “Ohh the soberest of them all? Is that why I had to pick you up from the bar tonight?” A small smile spread across your face as you watched him attempt and fool you with his drunken antics. “Mhm, I am fineeee.”

The sound of the front door lock turning is what brought you back to reality, “Elvis?” Gladys asked as she saw the state that her son was in, her hands naturally gravitated to his cheeks as she checked for a temperature. “Oh sweetie are you feeling alright?” She asked with a hint of worry in her voice.

"He's just exhausted, Gladys - you know how he is, always pushing himself in this music gig," you reassure, doing your best to keep him steady.

"Is he really alright?" Gladys asks with a hint of concern, her voice tinged with worry, as she observes her son's state.

"I'm not sick, just tired - all I want is to sleep. Goodnight," Elvis mumbles, attempting to free himself from his mother's grip. Leaning down to your ear, he whispers, "Where's Y/N? You promised I'd see her." His tone takes on a slight pout.

Her worries seemed to ease a bit at his reply, and she turned to head back to her room, leaving the two of you alone in the softly illuminated living room. "You'll get your chance to see her soon, but first, let's get you out of those clothes," you say, your tone gentle and reassuring.

Elvis extends his arms slightly to create a barrier between you and him. "No way you're taking off my clothes. I've got a girl, remember? Told you that already," he says, his movements becoming sluggish and feeble. "I don't need your help," he mumbles as you guide him up the stairs and into his room. "You, uh… you should go," he insists with a weak tone.

“Now Elvis, just listen here- I am your girl!”

Flopping onto the bed Elvis lifted his head to look back at you, “What the hell are you on about now, woman?”

“Don’t talk to me like that, brat.” You snip at him teasingly- “I am your girl- it’s me Y/N!”

He stared back at you with such intensity- as if he was trying to determine whether you were real or if you were one of his drunken delusions.

“C’mon now, put your arms up,” you say sternly with a scrunch of your nose. The smell from his mouth causing a twist in your stomach, “You smell like cheap alcohol,” you mumble as you pull off his shirt.

“It is not cheap alcohol!” He snaps back with a pout on his lips.

“Oh I thought you said you hadn’t been drinking.. are you lying to me, Elvis?” You ask as you pull on his night shirt and start to tug down his pants.

“Stop I wanna do that.” He says placing his hand over yours, you move away and allow him to dress himself. Watching as he haphazardly pulls on his pajama pants. “See I can do it all by myself.”

“I am so proud of you, sweetheart.” You smile and push his legs back onto the bed, “Now why don’t you get some rest? Want me to play with your hair-“

“Woman I already told you- I have a girl and you aren’t her!” He says promptly shoving you off the edge of the bed. “God damn it Elvis!” You huff and look up to chew him out but he had already passed out, “Oh you little- you just wait until the morning.”

so i wrote an 8-page essay about personhood and yoo joonghyuk in omniscient reader's viewpoint for my real life seminar for a real life grade that will be on my academic record forever. why? because im insane.

i would highly recommend reading this short text as an introduction to some of the theory and terms used in my essay; ive also included an extremely condensed version of the major points used for my paper under the cut.

narrative prosthesis: disability and the dependencies of discourse speaks on disability— and more abstractly, a deficiency in something— being a vital part of literary narratives, while also disqualifying disabled people from being perceived as human.

characters need to be missing something or deficient in some way in order to necessitate a story to be told about them, and at the same time this disqualifies them from being a "human person". essentially, disability is used because of its inherent implications: that there is a story to be told about it, and that there is a story that can be made from it. the end goal of the narrative is to either "fix" this disability/deficiency, or to "prosthesize" it with an equally narratively valuable explanation or compensation, hiding it from view.

disability and its place in literature is surrounded by a myriad of issues, such as how representations of disabled people are used to justify their abuse and exploitation. disability is viewed as the "master trope of human disqualification", automatically marking someone to be completely unrecognisable as a "normal" human, and when a disability becomes too apparent— both in literature and in the real world— a prosthetic is sought by the narrative or by social pressure in order to "compensate" for the disability, restoring it to an "acceptable" level.

I've been meaning to make a list of spooky (Thai - because negl that's 99% of what I watch) BL series and movies and what better time to post this than in October?

Spooky BL are my favourite flavour of BL. Turns out, there's actually a lot of them (maybe because Thailand does horror so well). These are only the ones I've watched (and enjoyed) so this list isn't complete.

*On another note: horror doesn't faze me at all so I can't really accurately say how scary some of these are. If you have squicks or triggers like jump scares, gore or bad endings please feel free to ask and I will do my best to give you a heads-up.

✨Spooky Thai BL✨

He's Coming To Me | Probably one of the first series everyone will think of. Not that spooky but a solid ghost(love) story with a murder mystery at its core.

Hidden Love | This is a budget show filmed under serious constraints during the worst of the covid pandemic. It's clichéd. It's over the top. But it's also got its charms. It comes with a tragic ghost (love) story that completely overshadows everything else with its many flashbacks and plot twists. If you manage to get over the camp. I warned you.

Dear Doctor I'm Coming For Soul | This one has reapers and ghosts and lots of bittersweetness. It's not that creepy since the supernatural elements are very matter-of-fact. It will make you cry though, sorry. :(

Ghost Host, Ghost House | Spooky with incredible chemistry between the leads and a cast of characters that you will immediately fall in love with.

He She It | A three-episode miniseries with a haunting soundtrack and a nice plot twist. This will make you miss JeffGameplay. :(

Low Frequency | Not spooky at all, and a bit slow and empty at times, but it has ghosts (in a way) and a sweet enough couple.

Make a Wish | Unfortunately, this has never had an inter release. There's inofficial subs floating around on grey sites but as of yet the series hasn't been fully translated. Which is a pity because it's a cute show about angels and spirit possession and (some) murder mystery.

Midnight Museum | I'm stubbornly putting this under BL. This show has everything and everyone. It's genuinely spooky at times but mostly draws on folklore, the mystical and an absolutely stellar cast.

On Cloud Nine | Short and beautiful. An indie production that's more ethereal than genuinely spooky.

🎞️Red Wine in the Dark Night | The oldest entry in this list. Admittedly, not very spooky (and instead rather surreal and sad), but it has one (1) vampire and Fluke Natouch in a role that's more grounded than we're used to nowadays.

Something in my Room | A spooky show with ghosts, mystery and romance that hides a lot of commentary behind metaphors and allegory. Criminally underrated because it didn't have a wide enough release. If you want to binge something fun and spooky for Halloween then this is the series to go. Prepare tissues.

✨Not a BL but hey, I know that actor!✨

Enigma | Win Metawin (and surprise guest!) in an incredibly well done 4-episode series about the occult with interesting worldbuilding and the promise of a second season.

🎞️Ghost Lab | Tor Thanapob and Ice Paris in a genuinely gruesome, shocking and scary horror movie. You've been warned.

Girl From Nowhere | One of the best things tv has to offer, and genuinely dark as well. Up Poompat, Pepo Nutchapan and James Teeradon feature in some of the loosely-connected episodes.

🎞️Hoon Payon | Phuwin Tangsakyuen, Up Poompat and Bank Nuttawat in a classic spiritual ghost story. More shocking than scary.

🎞️Inhuman Kiss | Oab Oabnithi and Great Sapol (sadly, not as a couple) in a sad and romantic take on a classic Thai legend.

Let's Fight Ghost | A Thai remake of a fun and somewhat spooky kdrama with spiritual themes. And Saint Suppapong.

🎞️Pee Nak 1, 2, 3 (and soon 4) | I'm biased because I really like this movie series. It's spooky but in a fun way. It has queer characters (as comedic relief - but not in a degrading way) and can get surprisingly deep. Watch this if you want to see (baby!) Tar Atiwat grow up on screen (because he's in all four movies). The third movie rewards you with some surprisingly sweet MeanPlan that might continue into the fourth movie.

School Tales | A Thai horror anthology centred around students at various schools. This series has Fiat Patchata, Kay Lertsittichai, Pepo Nutchapan, Mark Siwat and, most prominently, Saint Suppapong and Chimon Wachirawit in well-paced 50-minute episodes.

The Stranded | One of my favourite series ever. If you watched LOST then you know what to expect. This has 3 QL couples (Perth Tanapon & Mark Siwat, Win Pawin & Tanthai Tatchapol, Ticha Wongtipkanon & Chaleeda Gilbert) but don't expect any of them to get a happy ending. Sadly, this series ended on a cliffhanger and won't get a second season due to the lead actor's tragic passing and Nadao's dissolution.

✨Upcoming Spooky BL✨

7 Days Before Valentine | Death Note but make it even more of a BL. Patrick Rangsimant originally wrote this so I'm really excited. Plus, it will begin airing in November which is almost as good as October.

🎞️After Sundown | A period ghost movie that hit Thai cinemas this summer to great success. There's currently no news on an international release.

🎞️Death Is All Around | Saint Suppapong coming through with another spooky production - this one about death and the afterlife. This also has Seng Wichai, Bas Suradej and Dun Romchumpa (presumably as a couple).

The Hell Guards | Chains of Heart but make it spooky. Oh, I am so excited for this!

My Imaginary Boyfriend | Based on another one of Pat Rangsimant's novels (my favourite, atually). This one is more grounded, and spooky in a more psychological sense.

Mystique in the Mirror | Another one of Pat Rangsimant's novels (and psychological horror too, by the looks of it). This one started filming back in early summer so it should be airing soon.

Shadow | This series will air its first seven episodes on Halloween and that should tell you everything you need to know. It's a suspenseful (ghost?) story set in a Catholic private school.

Spirit Reborn | This has the potential to be very spooky, with curses and spirits and past lives.

SunsetxVibes | This is going to be messy and spicy but the short pilot trailer did have spooky undertones and possible spiritual themes.

The Whisperer | More psychological horror but this time not penned by Pat. Apparently, this has been in production for a while so hopefully we'll get some news soon.

Zomvivor | The only zombie series on this list has entered pre-production and is slated to be released in 2024 (hopefully before October). Will it have BL? I don't know, but it stars pretty much all of domundi's acting couples (and more).

1000 Years Old | Will it be spooky? No idea, but it does have vampires and sometimes that's enough.

or rather, i did end up adding a couple of shows that i've missed in the second half of 2023 to my list, but mostly just because i wanted to add something to it, so i picked the ones that had a fairly nice summary and not too terrible reviews (i mean i do always try to judge for myself, but sometimes i gotta trust the MDL people) [rip time the series you could have been everything to me as a big time traveler enjoyer but alas you were a mess apparently]

"You don't think this is any funnier than I do," Frey retorted, and grabbed Bobbi's bow and quiver. She stayed crouched, torn between letting Bobbi prove herself, and not wanting to watch her new friend get torn apart by zombies.

"It's like watching a puppy tumble down a flight of stairs. Repeatedly." The delight in Cuff's voice made Frey grind her teeth. Asshole.

It didn't get better the longer they watched, either. At least Bobbi had the sense to lure the one zombie away from the group so she didn't pull aggro on the whole horde. And she got a little more confident over time. Still missed more often than she hit, and the few hits she did get in were paper cuts at best. 

"Do you know what I find fascinating?" Cuff asked a few minutes after Frey settled down cross-legged on the edge of the bluff to watch. 

"Hm?" Frey asked, only about halfway paying attention to him.

"Knell."

If Frey was a cat her ears would've perked up. "What about her?"

"She is in full control of that bond. There's nothing at all stopping her from stepping in."

Frey grit her teeth, thoughts running around in her head and colliding with each other. "Kinda glad she doesn't, though."

"You're not scared, are you? Not the mighty Tanta Frey?"

"Shouldn't I be? She's another Rheddig weapon. Like you."

"Oh, no, nothing like me," Cuff scoffed. "Nowhere near as powerful, for one thing. Considerably freer, for another. Your new friend is in over her head, and I don't think she knows it yet."

Bobbi slipped and fell on her ass trying to dodge the zombie. Happy accident that it worked; the zombie bowled right past her, and Bobbi scrambled to her feet again. 

"...I meant in regards to Knell," Cuff clarified, almost sheepish.

"What do you mean she's in over her head?" Frey asked, ignoring that last comment. She'd figured as much. 

"Knell is in full control of their bond," Cuff repeated, back on solid ground and sure of his words. "She wasn't cursed into that form like I was. She took it willingly. I've no idea why, of course, but I do find it very odd."

"How can you tell?"

"When you're as old as I am, Frey, you learn how to read and understand the power of those around you," Cuff said, affecting a wise and venerable air. Frey snorted. 

"You're only four years older than me," she reminded him.

"You go ahead and keep believing that." He had that smug tone that made her want to punch him again. "But I'm quite serious, I can tell by the way Knell has bound herself to your new friend that she is the one who set it. Not Bobbi, not a third party. It's quite similar to how I bound myself to you back in Newark."

"New York," Frey corrected, absently. Mostly on reflex at this point. "But weren't you already cursed by the other Tantas?"

"I was. That's why I said it's similar. I was cursed into that vambrace form, yes, but I chose to bind myself to you, Frey. Just as our Rheddig friend has chosen to bind herself to Bobbi."

Interesting. Frey put that information away for later. 

"What's that got to do with..." She gestured to the pantomime of a fight happening below her.

"Simply that I'm surprised Knell does nothing to protect her bearer. She certainly could with no ill-effect to Bobbi. Either how I protect you or by revealing her true form. I wonder why she doesn't."

"Huh." Frey clicked her tongue, now wondering the same thing. "Maybe—"

The zombie raked its claws down Bobbi's back, and Frey spotted a glimmer of light reflected off of something too small to see clearly from where she sat. Bobbi turned, a cry of pain filtered through gritted teeth, and the tip of her sword passed through that glimmer. 

Silver wire erupted from the contact point, pierced through the zombie and shredded it to ribbons that disintegrated on the wind. 

"Oh," Frey and Cuff said at the same time. Bobbi sheathed her sword and shook out her hands, which set Knell jingling enough Frey could hear it.

"...mine's better," Cuff grumbled.

summary: fratboy!elvis x college age!reader you meet him at a party….one thing leads to another… a one night stand is a one night stand right? No strings attached… well what happens when you end up being paired with him for a lab assignment…

A/N: I know this is rusty but bare with me

“Y/N, you are going to this party- I am not going to let you sit here in the dorm drinking by yourself,” your roommate Anna Kate said with a huff.

“What? I am perfectly fine- I don’t want to go to a freaking Sigma Ki party. They’re way to trashy and I am not paying twenty dollars for some cheap alcohol and to stand around all night long!” You snap back at her as you rolled the bottle cap in between your fingers. “Y/N, you don’t have a choice, plus I already paid for your ticket- so get dressed,” as she opened your closet and began to rummage through it to find you and outfit.

Begrudgingly you took the outfit from Anna Kate and got dressed, “I swear you are going to be the death of me.” You mumbled as you grabbed your keys and headed out the door.

“Oh come on, I know you’re going to love it! Maybe you’ll even meet a new boy here!” Anna Kate teased as she poked your arm. You let out a sigh and parked the car near the end of the street.

“Anna Kate!” You groaned out as the two of you made your way up to the house. Anna Kate scanned the front lawn as if she were a predator looking for her prey and finally she found what she wanted and pounced.

“Tyler! Tyler c’mere- this is my amazing, super sexy, talented, smart funny roommate Mrs.Y/F/N Y/L/N.” Anna Kate said as she gestured towards you.

Tyler eyed you up and down but said nothing at all, instead he pulled Anna Kate in the direction of the house and you quickly followed. “Anna Kate!” You whispered yelled as she was whisked throughout the house, “Anna Kate!!”

“Y/N calm down!” She said with a smile, Tyler quickly detached himself from her grasp and made his way over to the beer pong table.

“You girls know how to play?” Tyler asked with a hint of sarcasm.

Anna Kate happily bobbed her head ‘yes’ , “Why the hell not?” You asked as you both approached the table.

“Oh shit hold on- E.P! C’mere, I need you to be my partner!” Tyler hollered out across the house. Anna Kate rolled her eyes, “Really Ty? You’re going to make us play against E.P? I thought this was supposed to be a fair game?”

“I know that isn’t Anna Kate I hear bitching already now is it?” A deep voice laced with Southern twang soon fills the room, turning around on your heel you seen the person this voice belongs to. A 6ft tall dark hair blue eyed man who was clearly a few drinks deep. “Aw shit- she brought another one of her little friends, Tyler I thought I told you not to let her bring anyone else to the house? It’s bad enough I’ve gotta listen to her voice near every damn night, no you got two of ‘em here!” The man throws his hands up in the air as he walks to the edge of the table.

“Try living with her.” You reply curtly whilst staring at the arrangement of cups at the table.

“And who the hell might you be little Ms.Smart Mouth?”

“Why does it matter to you?” You ask dryly, clearly not wanting to engage in this conversation any longer

“I didn’t ask for an attitude, I asked for your name.” He snarled

The two of you stared back at one another in silence as the buzz from the crowd only grew, finally Tyler broke whatever staring contest the two of you had been having. “E.P, I just want to play some fucking beer pong- leave her alone.”

“E.P” nodded his head, “Alright but here’s my offer Ms.SmartAss, if I win then I get to know your name.” You scoff, “And if you lose?”

E.P chuckled and shook his head, “Darling I don’t lose.”

“Well we’ll just have to see about that,” you replied.

You turned your back to talk to Anna Kate and she leaned into your face and whispered, “I don’t know what the hell you’re doing but you need to cut it out.”

“Oh ladies? Are we going to play some beer ping or are we going to sit and gossip all night long?” E.P asked with an annoyed smile.

“What? Are we going to make you late for your date with your right hand?” You snapped back as you lined up to take your shot.

“Alright, you want to play games, bitch- let’s fucking play.” E.P snarled.
