I have illustrated many Dad!Ominis, but as I have not yet published my headcanon on DadOmi, I would like to explain it in drawing and text because I am not good at English😳

In my headcanon, Ominis discussed this with his girlfriend, MC, while he was still at school, and they chose to drop the Gaunt name and elope together. The pair jumped ship on a steamer to the USA soon after graduation. As you know, the Gaunt family has ties to the USA, as the mother of the founder of the Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the USA was born a Gaunt, and there is a Slytherin wand buried in the garden of that school.

(This is an illustration of that scene that I posted on Twitter in May, but there are lots of things I want to correct 😂)

They then started a new life together in the USA, where Ominis was lucky enough to get a job as an employee at MACUSA, which had just moved to New York and was short-staffed. (I have no idea of the details of how Ominis, under a pseudonym that presumably hides his Gaunt family origins, was hired as a permanent employee, and whether his obvious posh English could hide his identity in the US. Never mind the details!🤣)

And secondly, how Ominis became a father in the place where he eloped. In my personal opinion, he would surely be reluctant to leave offspring, even if he became a couple with the woman he loved. A witch named Rionach Steward, daughter of the founder of Ilvermorny School, has become so thick with Gaunt blood that she is rumoured to be a Parselmouth. She remained celibate for the rest of her life in order not to leave her cursed blood to future generations. Ominis is very serious and thoughtful and, like Rionach, would not want to leave the Gaunt blood flowing in his body to future generations.

Where Rionach and Ominis differ, however, is that he is a man. If Ominis were heterosexual and had a healthy body, it would be difficult for him to completely abstain from sexual desire for women. (As an aside, I think this dichotomy is the spice that makes Ominis' smut more attractive.)

Two young, loving people who are financially strapped and starved for entertainment are sure to indulge their carnal desires. Soon, they find out that MC is pregnant.

In other words, in my headcanon, ominis become fathers for the pathetic reason of contraceptive failure. I guess there are two sides to this, but of course I am convinced that Ominis is not the kind of irresponsible man who would run away from an unwanted pregnancy. Ominis will be very bewildered, but he will be cheerful in front of his pregnant wife and will support her with dedication, as in the manga and illustrations I posted the other day! During MC's pregnancy, Ominis will be repeatedly struck with anxiety, but as he sees his wife's belly growing bigger day by day, he will gradually develop paternal feelings for her. And after the birth of his first child, when he holds his baby for the first time, Ominis will be moved by the preciousness of the creature in his arms and the weight of life, and he will awaken as the best dad…!

I hope that Ominis, who became a father after unexpected events in his elopement, lives happily ever after, chewing on how precious a healthy family is😍.

Of course, it's all my headcanon, so I like different people's different ideas about Ominis' future! Anyway, I am happy as long as I see Ominis living a long and happy life..!

そして次に、駆け落ち先でオミニスがどのようにして父親になっていったかです。私の個人的な意見ですが、彼はきっと愛する女性と夫婦になっても、子孫を残すことを嫌がるでしょう。 Ilvermorny Schoolの創設者の娘のRionach Stewardという魔女はParselmouthという噂があるほどGauntの血を濃く継いでしまいました。彼女は呪われた血を後世に残さないために生涯独身を貫いた。オミニスはとても真面目で思慮深い性格なので、Rionachと同じように、彼の身体の中に流れるGauntの血を後世に残したくないと思うでしょう。

しかしRionachとオミニスが違うところは、彼が男性ということです。 Ominisが異性愛者で健康的な身体を持っていれば、女性に対する性欲を完全に断つというのは困難でしょう。（余談ですが、この二律背反こそ、オミニスのsmutをより魅力的にさせるスパイスだと私は思います）

金銭的な余裕もなく娯楽に飢えた、若い愛し合う二人は、きっと肉欲に溺れるはずです。そして間もなく、MCの妊娠が判明するのです。

つまり私のheadcanonでは、オミニスは避妊失敗という情けない理由で父親になります。これについては賛否両論かと思いますが、もちろん、オミニスは望まぬ妊娠から逃げ出すような無責任な男ではないと私は確信しています。オミニスは非常に困惑しながらも、妊娠中の妻の前では明るく振舞い、先日投稿したmangaやイラストのように献身的に彼女をサポートするでしょう！ MCの妊娠期間中、オミニスは何度も不安に襲われるでしょうが、日に日に大きくなる妻のお腹を見ていくうちに少しずつ父性が芽生える。そして第一子が誕生後、初めて赤ちゃんを抱いた時に、オミニスは腕の中にある生き物の尊さと命の重みに感動し、最高のパパとして覚醒するのです…！！

駆け落ち先の予想外の出来事から父親になったOminisが、健全な家族がどれほど尊いものかを噛み締めて幸せに生きていてくれればと思います😍

もちろん、全て私のheadcanonなので、オミニスの将来については、色んな人の色んな考えも好きです！とにかく私は、幸せに長生きしているオミニスが見れればそれで幸せなのです…！

Shigeo and Mob omitted scene dialogue translation

I felt like the way some of the dialogue in the MP100 manga during the Confession Arc “No one will save me” scene (not included in anime) was a little confusing, so I got my hands on the raws for that chapter and translated it from the Japanese to English to get a better feel for it.

Translation under the cut! (It’s long)

This scene happens in the manga directly before Reigen’s scenes start. It’s basically Shigeo’s internal dialogue that happens as Serizawa and Reigen are attempting to reach Shigeo using the umbrella as a shield. It’s also one of my top three scenes in the entire manga and I was crushed it wasn’t included in the anime.

But! The translated dialogue can be pretty confusing. The subject matter is already a bit abstract and nebulous, and it’s made even harder to fully grasp translated out of its original language. It’s the curse of translated media to always be slightly less clear than the source material. This is why I wanted to go and translate the Japanese myself.

The first page I translated is this one:

Shigeo: 僕のためだ。— For me.

Shigeo: やりたいことをやるためだ。— To do what I want to do.

Shigeo: 車にはねられたのを覚えているか？ — Do you remember being hit by a car?

Notes:

1) In the most widely-used scanlation, this line:

Shigeo: そして割りを食うのはいつも僕だ。— And it was always me who scraped by as a percentage.

is translated as:

Shigeo: “And it always put me at a disadvantage.”

It’s generally correct, but I think it loses some of the impact that the original, seemingly very intentional wording has. 割り means “percentage” or “proportion” in this sense, and 食う, though most widely used as a masculine slang word for “to eat”, has a secondary usage meaning “to survive/to make a living (through hardship)” My version of this line is not the most strictly dictionary-accurate one but I feel like it captures the feeling well, which is the point of translation when done well.

2) The line:

Mob: 誰も助けてくれない。そんなの嫌だ… — No one will save me. I hate it…

is translated in the scanlation as:

“No one will save me. I don’t want that…”

This is still technically correct, but I’ve always thought 「嫌」 to be a bit stronger than that. It’s most often used to express dislike of something, so it’s correct to say “I don’t like it…” but it’s also the kanji used in 嫌い (I hate…), and it makes more sense to me to think of it as “I hate it” because it also parallels Ritsu’s “嫌いだ/ I hate it” statement in his vs ??? sequence.

Anyway, sorry this was so long! I hope it makes sense. I feel like it cleared up a few of the murkier statements for me.

Vocab Highlight: 一生

一生（いっしょう） is a word in japanese that is used in many more situations than it would seem at first glance from looking up the english meaning in a dictionary.

From this you can gather that you can use 一生 to describe actions you habitually do for your whole life, like study. And, you can use it to mean “once-in-a-lifetime” or “~est thing of your life”. These seem like pretty limited usecases compared to how often it’s actually used in japanese conversation. In reality, japanese people often use the word 一生 where we would use the word “forever” (or “never” in a negative sentence).

偽りの生活を一生続けることはできない You can’t keep living this lie forever.

一生付き合っていくのか、こんな足と？ Am I gonna have to live with this foot (pain) forever?

これは私にとって一生忘れられない思い出です This is a memory I’ll never forget.

This is just another reminder that memorising dictionary definitions is not enough to get the real meaning of a word! You must learn how the words are actually used (from immersion, or studying lots of example sentences)

The Love Story in Todome no Ichigeki (or a TwiYor AU)

I am so normal about the MV.

I would put some of the manga references the director has possibly used at the end, and as usual, manga spoilers would be out after the cut.

The story starts with her.

She's just killed a musician and taken over his identity.

This is the first time we see a close-up of her - right as she puts on the first piece of disguise.

The next scene shows a fully disguised assassin, with the sunglasses and the wig, arriving at the stage. She starts her performance.

She has a mission.

And her target has also arrived at the scene with his associate.

As she puts on her jacket and finishes up her final touches, it's all set, and she should be able to get her target.

Unfortunately, she is having a situation.

だから Therefore -

She picks up the pair of sunglasses. And she hesitates.

And then, without the wig and the sunglasses, she begins singing part of the chorus:

[Chorus] 今日の夜は隣にいさせて (隣にいさせて) Just for this night, let me be by your side 今夜だけは本気だからね (隣にいさせて) Because just tonight, it’s for real, you know. (1)

And with the line "こっちにきてもっと Come closer to me", she put out the cigar butt and caught his attention.

She goes on singing in her full disguise:

祈りあった未来とて The future that we prayed for 道が違うのよアナタ And the paths that we walked on have always been different, my dear. (アナタ, give up! Give it up!) (My dear, give up! Give it up!) 互いの殺意でトドメ喰らっちゃうね Our shared urge to murder will deliver the final blow and get us killed. (This is also the part that repeats as the song fades out.)

And once again, she sings without disguise:

やっぱりやめとくわ As I've expected, I should just give up.

It cuts to how they meet initially.

From this scene on, we begin to get camera shots that centred on him.

And this is, technically, their first meeting in their other identities. He tried to observe more intently, but she was hidden in darkness despite being placed centre-staged.

And as the second verse (the rap) comes along, she even turns around with her back facing towards him.

The rap verse initially echoes what she's been trying to convince herself: they walk on a path of countless tribulations and seemingly eternal darkness. However, if you search further in this seemingly endless wilderness, you'll find something else.

そこに現れた心見透かすちっぽけな魂 There appears a tiny spirit that could see right through your heart. それは散らばるミクロ砂金 Like scattered microscopic gold dust. 手のひらに集め If you gathered them in the palm of your hand 密度高め万年を照らす光の矢を放つ、穿つ Releasing an arrow of light with intensified density, illuminating and piercing through eternity (1)

And she wonders if she really can see through his heart and know who he truly is:

こういうのとか Things like this

そういうのとか And things like that

偽物じゃできないよねだから You can't do that if it was fake, right?

In the scenes of them being lovey-dovey, there were time they didn't show the entirety of their faces, and when they were seemingly facing each other, they had their eyes closed.

But she did manage to take his glasses off, took a closer look and even wiped away a drop of his tear.

For at least a moment he showed his true self and his weakness.

And だから therefore - she takes off her glasses, throws away her first disguise on stage, and repeats the chorus:

He slowly realises who she is, and what she's coming after.

He is her target. She's singing to him, and her love is mingled with her intent to kill.

Does she want to stay the night with him because she wants to kill him? Or is it because she loves him?

Or maybe she should have given up the mission a long time ago.

Why would she give up?

Maybe she's just getting used to this situation, slowly moving from the edge and starting to find comfort in this new position she’s found herself in.

Or maybe it's that moment when they could look at each other like a real couple.

She tried to look through the camera lens. And what she saw was so different from what had appeared in her mission files.

And he is right here with her tonight.

As she removes her last piece of disguise, she says:

もしもどこまでも続くなら [I wonder] if this will continue forever せめて今日の一度だけ At least if it's just this one time we have today it's also fine.

She has the first close-up in which she looks straight into the camera,

and she finishes her final dance moves, destroying the ship.

She stops dancing.

This is finally not a performance for the public. This is a confession for him.

As the performers and the audience try to escape from this sinking ship, she finally reveals the true intention that has been hidden behind her killings:

今日の夜はワタシにさせて Let me be by your side tonight. 今夜だけはワタシに守らせて Let me guard you tonight. 今日の夜が明けたころに When the night passes to dawn, (1) 待ち合わせね we shall meet again. 明日の夜も守れますように I hope I can protect you again tomorrow night.

こっちにきてもっと So come a bit closer to me

Someone also uses glasses and a change of hairstyle as disguise:

The tiny soul and the scattered gold in the rap verse so obviously refers to Anya. The sparkling effect used in the MV could also be a nod to the special effect when Anya uses her mind-reading powers.

The sparkling effect appears right from the start, and becomes stronger as her conviction is strengthened.
