Do you often encounter JP kanji words that you're mostly used to seeing the hira/kata form of? Like, I've seen enough of 駄目 to know that it's だめ, but one time I was caught off guard by 滅茶苦茶. It was a kinda funny "I know those kanji individually but not together like that, let me pull out my dictionary… wait, it's THAT word/phrase?" moment.
Oh yeah, definitely. I don't have anything that immediately springs to mind unfortunately (and I will say like. Mothy very frequently uses kanji for words and phrases that are usually hiragana so I've almost been experiencing it the other way around if I see someone who doesn't).

thank you for all of this!! is it alright if i use your translations as a base for me and my sister's english ver. of the musical we plan to make? we'd use the music of course, but your translations with songs and descriptions of characters and areas in the books are amazing.
I would like to say yes but I'm not entirely certain how you intend to use my translations for this musical project, so I'd appreciate a bit of clarification. Do you plan to quote my translations verbatim? If you're only going to quote the dialogue, that's fine since it's not a huge part of the translation, that's something I've given permission for in the past for comics and animatics and whatnot, but you've mentioned the descriptions of characters and areas in the books.
I want to make clear here, I don't own Evillious. I don't own the concepts in it, I don't own the characters or settings in it. Mothy owns those. What I own are the translations I've made, the literal wording choices in them. If you intend to, for example, have an empty stage with a narrator simply describing everything by reading off my translation directly, that is something I would have a problem with.
However, if you instead intend simply to create set pieces or costumes going off of the descriptions given in my translation, without any text being quoted, you would still in a sense be "using" it, but that wouldn't be copyright infringement on me.
(It would, of course, still be copyright infringement on mothy).
By "english version of the musical" are you talking about a wholly original musical project? Or are you talking about making an English version of the Daughter of Evil musical? Because if you're talking about the latter, I would caution you that this musical has many, many story changes from the books, and so most of my translations for dialogue and such are not applicable to it at all.
TL;DR is that if you're not quoting anything of mine or you're only quoting small amounts of it then that's fine, but since this is something that I've had to clarify lately with Ichika's new policies on her art I'll repeat that mothy is the person who owns Evillious. I cannot give you permission to use his story, setting, and characters, I do not own any of them.

What exactly does Rahab mean when she says that everyone was aware of Luna's existence, even if they didn't know it was her? As reference, it's there in scene 3 of Clandestine Meeting of Seven Crimes and Punishments.
I am not totally sure myself. The only thing that really comes to mind is the moon--that everyone knows of and wishes to the moon or something like that, and Luna is the moon goddess. But I don't know if that's what she really means.

can you speak other languages other than English and Japanese, if so, do you plan to translate the novels into that said language ?

I do not. There have been times where I've thought about learning another language, but even learning Japanese as I did feels like a bit of a fluke. I don't have the focus or discipline at present to take on yet another personal project like that.

Hello, sorry to bother you, I would like to know if I can translate the novels (The Daughter of Evil, The Deadly Sins of Evil and The Original Sin Story) into Portuguese in pdf and epub, a friend of mine showed me your profile and we are passionate about these stories , but unfortunately we didn't find any translation in Portuguese ;-;Would there be a problem?
Unfortunately translating my translations into another language is one of the things I don't permit using my translations for.
Or I mean--to be more specific, if you were planning to just translate and distribute it privately (such as among friends) then that would be fine. It just can't be posted anywhere publicly.
In general I am hesitant to endorse translations of a translation because sometimes there's distortions that can occur with the meaning. No translation can be a direct 1:1 of the original, and English and Japanese are so different that it does require sometimes taking liberties. Idioms, for example--If I recognize an idiom is being used, rather than translating it literally I will substitute an equivalent idiom in English. This kind of thing can be easy to miss if you're not working from the original source material. I recognize that in this case it's probably better than nothing, but one of the reasons I started translating Evillious in the first place was because this mindset had resulted in a lot of very, very poor translations being spread around the fandom, so--just as a word of warning.

Hello, I'm the owner of the Traditional Chinese Evillious translation blog you and an anon mentioned, thank you for the mention! I have a question to ask, how do you translate novels so fast? It seems like you can get a book done in weeks, and I have been translating for almost three years and I haven't even have three DSoE novels translated. I really admire your determination and quick pace of how you do your work.
You're welcome! And hmm, that's not an easy question to answer.
I think it mostly comes down to experience. I wasn't always that fast--when I first started it would take me a few months to translate a novel rather than a few weeks. My Japanese wasn't as good and there were a LOT of things that I needed to look up extensively to understand them, or phrases I wasn't used to and so had no idea how they should be translated.
I think the biggest thing that's helped is just improving my fluency in Japanese. I was attending college courses on Japanese during a huge chunk of my translations, and after graduating I also studied a bit more to pass the N3 and N2 levels of the JLPT. So while in the beginning it was something of an active struggle to get the books translated, by the end here I could translate pretty much at the same speed as I could read (granted, I'm sure the prose style in my translation is a little dull as a result).
There's other little things too--I'm a fast typist, I have some interest in creative writing so words come naturally to me, etc. But I do think it's one of those things where the more you work on it, the easier it gets over time. It definitely takes a while, though.

I know you’re not going to translate TTDS as the actual light novels but I just want to say thank you very much for the cliffnotes regardless. I’m a huge fan of it, and I know it’s very obscure, and the fact we have those at the very least means a lot to me.

While we're on this topic of collectibles though it does remind me of something else I found recently while I've been combing through mothy's blog. I mean you guys'll see it when I post the next update but apparently mothy had a very brief tie-in with Bangusetsu (a retro Japanese gaming company, though I guess they're defunct now) to release a figurine for Desert Bluebird (I'm guessing they made the "tank RPG" that partially inspired the song? I still don't know which one he's referring to).
Anyway, I don't think it's really related to Evillious but it's cute, it just has the twins in the car from the song but they've crashed into a tree. The promotional site isn't around anymore but I did find some images of it on archive.org [here]

Actually, I'm fairly sure the "existing" Riliane and Allen are Nendoroid Petits, a smaller kind of nendoroid! "Standard" nendoroids come with articulated joints and multiple different face plates + I think arm pieces as well? So you can change their pose and expression! Whereas the nendoroid petit series are pretty much just one solid figure (if I recall correctly, you *can* remove the heads, but that's more for packing and transport than for customization I think).
Ah, I stand corrected. --Actually I own a couple, so you would think I'd know that. Certainly makes this more exciting, then.
But yes I can confirm that the old petit Allen, Riliane, and Kayo all come with detachable heads :)

This isnt anything translation related but Mothy just revealed on twitter we're getting daughter and servant of evil nendoroids and i just think thats neat :D Would be crazy if in the future we got some more Evillious characters like Banica, Elluka, etc
Oh, neat! I wonder if this will be a rerun of the old nendoroids from way back in the day or if this would be something closer to Ichika's polished DoE designs.
I think it'd be pretty cool. There's a Kayo nendoroid out there somewhere too (at least, I think it's Kayo).

So about the whole ichika's art thing, i'm sorry if i'm being annoying since multiple other people have asked about that topic already, but i saw someone asking somewhere else and just wanted to confirm, does the "no editing" statement apply specifically to things ichika's posted on her personal account or all of her art that's been posted anywhere, for example the music videos on mothy's channel? I thought it was the latter but yeah i saw someone wanting to confirm so-
This is something my previous responses covered, but I don't think I've said it clearly enough/it was buried under other stuff, so let me try to reword it again.
You NEVER had permission to edit or repost the art that Ichika made for mothy or Evillious as a whole.
Ichika touches on this herself, but the art that she is commissioned to do is not something she CAN give permission for others to use. She retains some basic rights as creator of the art (I assume) but that art belongs to the person she made it for. They paid for it, it's theirs. She isn't revoking permission to use it because it wasn't hers to give in the first place. By default, you did not have permission, that was already the case and nothing about that has changed.
I mean, there are plenty of instances of people using Evillious artwork that falls under Fair Use, and there's also plenty of stuff that's pretty unambiguously illegal. Like most copyright infractions of overseas media, all of it is overlooked/allowed to continue for whatever reason. But what is and isn't allowed by copyright law is a separate topic.
So to recap, Ichika is not saying "my personal art is off limits but Evillious art is okay" or "you can't touch any of my art anywhere", she's saying "Please do not repost my art. Here is a limited use I'm okay with people using my art for (eg, unedited profile pics), but I can only give that permission for stuff I personally uploaded. Normal copyright exceptions apply as well."

Could Eve Moonlit be classified as an irregular? not the blonde Eve, but the original, considering she and Adam were supposedly born from a virgin conception.
No. She has no Irregular powers, and more importantly she's not blonde.
The only non-blonde Irregular is Ma, and that's because she literally doesn't have a body of her own.

I might be asking the obvious here, but is there any more reasoning behind why mothy decided to switch up the methods in which sinners became sinners after pride (barring wrath), aside from just wanting to change things up? Margarita is a fake contractor narrative-wise, Kayo is a sinner by birth, and Gallerian makes a contract with Adam instead of Salem. That's besides them not being royals in positions of ruling, unlike the first three.
What do you mean, like--aside from the reasoning of "that's how he wanted to tell the story"? Like an in-universe reason? Does there have to be one?
mothy is the sort of person who gets easily bored with doing the same thing all the time (as a note, I am too). It's one of the neat things about the Seven Deadly Sins books (I mean it applies broadly to the whole series but it's really noticeable with them), they all feature little experiments in their writing. Different genres and framing devices, different narrative tropes at play, different cultural references being made, etc. Making them all unique in some way probably just keeps it interesting for him.
And also just in general--be mindful of the order that mothy is putting these stories out. It wasn't just "after Pride" that he made those decisions, because "Pride" is the arc he wrote first, and it's one he wrote on extensively before going back to flesh out the others. This isn't a case of mothy doing the series one way and then getting bored midway through, I don't think he ever actually intended to have it be the sort of rigid formula where all of the sinners contracted normally and their stories all went the same way. Even if that's the impression one might get from the more simplistic storytelling style of the songs.
The way it sort of feels to me is that Venomania and Conchita come across a bit like prequel novels to the Daughter of Evil series, and then with the way he upends the narrative in Gift that's where the main plot to the whole of Evillious kicks in.
I'm also going to argue with your last sentence there. Margarita is the wife of a Marquis, Gallerian is a very wealthy and well-connected judge of the highest court in Evillious, and Nemesis becomes a dictator. Kayo is the only exception, as a humble tailor, and even then her song makes a point of saying that she is very well-liked and popular in her community. Even among those first three, only Riliane is literally a royal, the other two are just high-ranking nobles in administrative positions.

I like how mothy makes a point that after Behemo explains how the periods work, Allen thinks about how Behemo is a lying liar who lies so the audience knows that this might not be what actually happened. Alot of EC hinges on unreliable narration
If you're referring to that scene in Heavenly, I think it's less that Behemo is a liar and more that Allen was already pranked by Sickle like five minutes ago and so is trying to be wary of the fact that he can't know if this is the actual truth.
Although yes--Evillious is filled to the brim with unreliable narration. It's part of the fun!

I know this is a couple days late, but about Gumilia's physical body, I don't know the Q&A they're referring to, but in Pierrot Eve's Court reverts everyone to their true forms-Gumilia stays the same and Behemo recognizes her instantly. I always took it to mean that the real reason she chose Gumina's form was it was pretty much identical to her OG body (nothing canon to back it up, just my theory)
No, Gumillia's form does not stay the same. It's explicitly stated that she does not recognize herself when she sees her face reflected in the polished surface of the ark Sin--that this is her "true" face from before becoming a spirit. Behemo is likely recognizing her from their association back in the Second Period.
