As Will was focused on filling in the form, he didn’t see the red-head that peeked inside the shop to look for him and he didn’t hear her footsteps, either. A mischievous grin made its way onto her face and she quietly made her way behind Will and without any hesitation, she screamed ‘Boo!’ and slammed her hands on his shoulders, but not too hard. She didn’t want to possibly hurt him. Will let out a short, high-pitched scream, as he low-key jumped in his seat, immediately trying to identify the culprit. “Fuck, Max, how many times do I have to tell you to fucking quit it?” “Sorry, it just never gets old.” she told him, between chuckles. Will rolling his eyes and going back to his work was even funnier to her, resulting in her breaking into a giggling fit. “Sorry. Sorry.” she told him, before she started calming down. “I’m actually here to ask you if you’re going to come with me to the Halloween Carnival Night tonight.” “Absolutely not.” he simply stated and finished typing everything that was necessary before he slides the final form up, sending it directly as a message to Mr. Clarke in his office. “Aren’t you going with the others?” By others, he meant some very specific people. People who he hadn’t seen in years, but whom he missed really, really badly. He just refused to come in contact with them again, due to the nature in which their friendship ended. Will felt bad; to put it simply. And Max knew that. “Naw, I wanna go with you. If you refuse me again, I’ll simply come to the conclusion that you hate me and you never thought of me as a friend!” “You’re so fucking annoying, actually.” that earned him another laugh. He let out a sigh in defeat. “I’ll talk with Mr. Clarke. Just don’t get your hopes up, alright?” “Too late, I already did.” Max excitedly said and a big smile formed on her face. “We’ll have to get you something that screams Halloween spirit.” “Of course we’ll have to…” he said, in a deflated tone.
yeow miwip *checks calendar* tuesday for day 5 of @bylerween2023. tackling the theme carnival night with a cyberpunk 2077 setting and way too much background lore for me to explore in this fic but we'll do it anyway !

pov you are arasaka's photographer and these two new recruits don't look the part at all
Cyberpunk Red!AU with a twist for my duo taking place in 2045!
A world where Valerie didn't come back to Night City for her family, and somehow Võ ended up in Japan instead of USA.
Valerie is a bit more on the business side here, for that she has to go undercover in Arasaka as an employee to gather information about the other two factions beside her work as Arasaka's executor. Of course, since this takes place in 2045, the age gap between Valerie (born in 2020) and Hanako isn't as great as in Cyberpunk 2077, but the pining energy is still there. Much against her will, she suddenly found herself being sent to her hometown for a mission, one that none of her most trusted comrades even knows about.
Võ, or known more as Vox, is half-Japanese half-Vietnamese here instead of fully Vietnamese as in the 2077 AU, but he only knows he has Japanese blood inside him. His meeting with Valerie was also much more violent: he attempted to mug her while she was taking a walk, only to be flung across the street straight into the police station. Yet, the next morning, Valerie bailed him out and offered him a job as her eyes and ears on the streets. Later, Arasaka personally took over her process of training him and moved him away. She had thought that was the last time they met, until he stood in front of her in Night City and awaited her commands.
So let's just say Valerie doesn't have much emotional baggage aside from her pining for Hanako (which is still a lot), and Võ is more comfortable having a corporate leash around his throat.

Easy Way Out. (Cyberpunk 2077 Spoilers!!!)
River Ward x Fem!V
TW: Suicide
————-
When his Jamie Sheen died all those years ago, River had sat frozen in shock. He had gotten the message from his father, the crying face of the older man showing up on the Holo as he explained his sons death.
The Top Brass of the NCPD only took bribes. That was the main point emphasized over and over again in the note he left behind, clutched so tightly in his hand that it ripped when they’d tried to retrieve it. He gripped it as hard as the e system had gripped him, gripped it with such a strong amount of tightness that it took ripping and tearing just to get the note out, piece by piece.
If you were to ask River a few weeks ago about the event, he would say how he’d never let himself become that affected by someone else’s actions again. He’d told himself and everyone around him that Jamie had taken a far too drastic way out, a way out that could’ve been avoided if he’d just tried to talk to someone. Jamie had made a mistake, that was all. It wasn’t something River found the need to wrack his brain over. Hell, River would say that he took the ‘easy way out.’
He didn’t talk to anyone about Jamie beyond a few comments, and he moved on. He moved on with his life, trying to forget about his former best friend. Jamie was just a police partner, after all.
Years later, he still found himself working with the NCPD. Working day and night, he found discrepancies, he found odd coverups and lies within files, all pointing to political motivation and bribery letting people off the hook.
Mayor Lucius Rhyne was one of them. Joss had become annoyed with how much he had thrown himself into that case, she just wanted him to drop it. Joss had hounded River left and right, nearly on the daily to ‘just let it go.’
But he couldn’t. The death was too convenient, everyone was somehow in the wrong place at the wrong time. Security had left only a few seconds earlier than the attack. River couldn’t help but see it as a huge coverup, one he intended to prove.
The one thing that prevented the case from coming to a halt was that one phone call.
A female voice he didn’t recognize asked for him by name. She said she was working for Elizabeth and Jefferson Peralez, people who River had worked with not too long ago. She was looking into the death of the Mayor, telling him that she had proof of it being intentional homicide.
River was quick to tell her to meet him at Chubby Buffalos. While he had a meeting with Detective Han, River wanted to meet her as quickly as possible. Any way to prove himself right was something that he strived for, and this was a chance that he couldn’t let go.
The meeting seemed to go on forever. Detective Han was hounding him to just let go of the case, to just shut up about it and stop trying to dig where he didn’t belong. River hated Han for this reason alone, hated him for just listening to what the Upper NCPD told him, not willing to question even a bit.
But soon enough, as expected, the door to the restaurant was opened. There was an odd amount of force to it, as if every movement was forced. The sound of heavy boots made their way over to River and Detective Han’s table, before coming to a halt.
“Detective River Ward, right?”
When River looked up to the voice, he could immediately admit that his assumptions about the woman were wrong.
She was obviously a Mercenary. Her eyes, a shining white, stared nearly into his soul. She had long hair, reaching down to her mid back, a rarity for any mercenary from what River had seen.
Dressed in black and red netrunning gear, she showed herself to be an intimidating person. River was convinced, this was the person who’d help him solve the case.
“And you’re V.”
Over the next few days, they found out where to go to find the truth about what happened to the Mayor. Heading to Red Queens Race, River decided to stay out in the car, knowing that if he entered the Animal’s territory without a warrant, he’d be shot and killed.
It was silent on V’s end for a while. She’d snuck in there, silently zeroing people with her Cyberdeck. He heard gunshots, but no scuffle. He heard people scream about a hacker before being quickly silenced, killed by a cybernetic short before they could pinpoint her location.
She was strong, and was really self reliant.
Yet River still got this sense of dread.
Before V had even found her way into the office, River had gotten out of his truck. He side stepped all the dead bodies, avoiding every corpse on the ground and running down towards where she’d last told him she was.
He knew that if Lucius Rhyne was killed there so easily, whatever killed him could still be there.
Once he got down to the main floor of the club, his suspicions were confirmed with a scream of pain being heard from an upper floor.
River couldn’t explain why, but something shot through his heart. A pang of fear went through him as he ran upstairs, finding the Mercenary keeled over, a brain dance wreath booted up around her head.
River ripped it off her, unconsciously grabbing her hand and asking if she was okay. At her confirmation, he let go. His face was tinted a slight red as he did.
When he confirmed that Randy was with the well known Serial Killer, V was the first person he called. Despite her having no reason to care for this case, to care for him, she quickly came to his aid. Randy was found with a precision he couldn’t do on his own, her benefit to the case being astounding in River’s eyes.
Seeing her stare silently and sympathetically down towards the sleeping Randy only confirmed it in River’s mind.
She was perfect. V was a part of him that he needed to keep around. He didn’t want her to go and vanish after this mission, didn’t want to never see her again. So after a few days, he invited her over to Joss’s for a cookout.
The way she played with the kids only set it in his mind how much he wanted her to stay around. She got along with everyone, speaking to Joss in a sisterly manner while also helping River with the cooking. V let the kids win their game, feigning disappointment and humiliation once they beat her, insisting that they won fair and square.
When River invited her up to the water tower, he prayed that she’d accept him. He prayed that she’d say yes.
And she did.
In the next few months, V was getting worse.
She’d told River about Johnny. From what he’d heard, Johnny had a lot of comments about him as well.
At first, V only treated him like a voice in her head. But as time went on, she became more and more sickly. His personality started leaking into hers.
Every night she wasn’t able to sleep, which became three to four times a week, she’d talk to River. Sometimes she’d be in her own apartment, the meowing of Nibbles and the trilling of the Iguana evident in the background.
Other times, she’d be in the middle of nowhere. She’d stay the night with Panam, bunk down in the afterlife with Rogue’s permission, or hide out with Kerry Eurodyne. No matter what, Every night before she went to sleep, she’d update him on her condition. River felt his heart pang when she described the pain she was going through, knowing he couldn’t make it any better.
The only thing that was worse were the times she was sleeping beside him. He loved those nights, he loved them more than anything. However, sometimes he’d find himself waking up to her body trembling beside him, hands clasped over her mouth to prevent herself from screaming and waking anyone up. Her eyes were wide, a light blue light shining from them, evident of a relic malfunction messing with her optics.
River would try to comfort her through it, but there was nothing he could really do. Nothing really at all. So he’d just cry, hiding his tears by bringing her into a tight embrace.
When he saw the broadcast about the parade, he nearly had a heart attack. V had told him the bare minimum of the plans, but hearing that Arasaka had sent Mercenaries after the two sent River into a spiral.
Then, she said she was meeting with Hanako herself. River tried to tell her to take anything she could, to just get the chip out. V said that she’d do her best.
From what River heard, V sounded so tired.
‘The Easy Way Out.’
He’d gotten a phone call the same night she went to meet Hanako. V told him that she’d gotten worse, that she had to make a decision now.
She promised. With her voice cracking from tears, she promised that she’d make it better, that she’d relieve herself of the chip. River agreed, telling her that it was what she should do. That should be her priority, not him. Her only priority should be getting rid of the chip.
If he’d known what she meant, River would’ve never said that.
There were a few hours of dead silence. He’d messaged her a few times, but there was nothing.
Not a single message back. She didn’t even read them.
The night turned into day. River couldn’t even force himself to eat breakfast.
Every meal seemed sickening. Joss and the kids tried to ask him to eat, but he kept saying no. He only stared at her messages, trying to see if she’d even read them.
There was nothing.
Not a single call, until around midday. A voice he didn’t recognize, crying over the phone.
“I know you don’t know me-“ The feminine voice said, “But my name is Misty. I’m V’s friend.”
“Do you have any updates on her?”River responded, his posture immediately going to sit up straight. “She told me she was solving the issue with the biochip, do you know what she did? When can I see her next?”
Misty’s voice went silent for a few moments, before a small sniffle could be heard.
“You know…she talked a lot about you, River. Even in the note, she talked about you. I’ll let you see it when you get here-“
“The note? What note? Is she not going to be able to talk for a while? Is she getting the chop out?” He was confused. Maybe, he thought, she wouldn’t be able to contact him for a while. Especially if she was with the Arasaka’s.
Instead of a quick response, River heard a muffled sob, before Misty slowly forced out a response.
“No, River. She’s gone. I found her about twenty minutes ago. She shot herself.”
‘The Easy Way Out,’ he’d called it.
But there was nothing easy about seeing his world crumble around him.

Small fic written in a Cyberpunk 2077 au I have that included HSR and Fire Emblem characters. I don't usually write things like this and I don't rp things like this, but Hanya's suffering go brr
⚠️tw: child death and vivisection mentioned, drug use⚠️
Word count: 2,213
Characters: Hanya, Charlotte FE (FE knowledge not necessary)
Notes: Cyberpunk 2077 knowledge is also not necessary
Summary: Hanya has to witness horrors that shake even her at work, but it is her duty to pass judgment. What she has to do to cope with it is her problem.
The BD stopped on it's own, and Hanya was thankful. Her hands were shaking like the newbies she saw. She thought she had seen it all, was used to it all, but she was wrong. The weeks of carnage and torture she had seen, had felt like she had been doing herself was truly wretched. It was to the point her eyes had become unseeing as she sat there, the arest of the criminal playing her her head as though it was her, but she didn't notice. All she could see were the tortured bodies, the blood stained hands that had looked to be her own.
The vivisection of children was not new to her. It was extremely rare, but in her long life she had suffered a case or two, especially since they handed some of the worst criminals the world had ever seen to her. The thing with this case was the perpetrator had done it to more kids than she had seen before combined, but that wasn't what sent her over the edge. What sent her over the edge is the last one had looked like sister. The light blue hair, the pinkish wine red eyes, it was all the same. She was going to be sick.
Hanya let her fingers tap out the report by themselves, listing the crimes committed for all to see. She did her best to shove the images out of her head, but all she saw was the girl who looked like sister. The tears on her face as she screamed in pain. The blood soaking her white dress.
White was the color of death. Why did they dress kids in it? It was like they were trying to tempt fate with it.
She knew the west saw it as a sign of purity and innocence, but that is never what she saw. She could only think of the many white shrouds pulled over sister's destroyed puppet bodies.
Why did they give it to the dead as well if it was supposed to signal innocence?
Hanya's hands stopped, and she looked at her screen. She checked over the document to see if she missed anything, she hadn't. She sent it out before she pulled out her brush, ink, and thick paper. They didn't usually make paper like this anymore, but the commission had it specially made for formal decrees, like this one.
Hanya dipped her brush in the ink and skillfully wrote out the official punishment, the brush gliding skillfully over the paper, as though it were dancing. Once it was finished she gently cleaned off her brush before tucking it away. She let the ink dry for the allotted time, her eyes glued to the ancient plastic analog clock on her desk, her mind empty.
Once the hands had preformed their needed number of turns she turned off her computer and rose to her feet. She took the degree and turned it in before she left. Thankfully that had been her last judgment of the day. She didn't know what she would have done if it would have been otherwise because she needed out, **now**
Hanya stumbled out of the building and let her feet guide her where they wished. She trusted that they would carry her to wherever she needed to be at the moment.
Where she needed to be turned out to be the veteran's bar she frequented. She wasn't a veteran herself, but many of the folks there deem that she was one, in her own way.
She was thankful for their welcome. It was a comforting place, and unlike most bars in Night City. It was dim and quiet, quite the welcoming change indeed.
No one panicked when someone broke down and lost their mind. They knew they were lost in their own mind, and knew that they were no threat, at least to anyone there. They could all protect themselves after all, and knew how to handle a fellow vet having an episode. It was not much of a surprise, just an every day occurrence to everyone there. It was refreshing. Plus no one tried to start anything, and if they did they would be subdued swiftly and sent away, never to be seen again.
Hanya's entrances caused many eyes to turn towards her, before they turned away swiftly. They knew her, knew that she wasn't a threat to them. Just another broken person seeking solace in this place.
One pair of eyes lingered however, and waved her over to a booth. It was one near the back, which were always filled by vets trying to have the best sight lines. They were so in demand seeing four groan men packed into them like sardines was not a surprise. The booth being empty except for one woman was more of a surprise, although the fact it was Charlotte made it much less of one. Since she was one of the oldest vets there she was able to get what she wanted. Plus she was friends with the owner, and friends with the owner of the complex below the bar. The second was a strange man, but Hanya knew him well enough.
Hanya slid into the booth that faced the door, since she had no problem putting her back to it, unlike most. "Hello Charlotte. It's a pleasure to see you," she said, her words slower and more robotic than usual. Charlotte pushed over her beer and waved to the bartender to get them more as she pulled out her phone.
"Howdy Hanya, long day," she asked, not bothering to hide her accent. She did that when she was out, trying not to seem lower class. Hanya didn't understand it, but she was used to it.
"Yes. A long tiring day." Her short response caused the blond to type faster.
"Don't worry I'm talkin' to Herny to get what ya need," she assured.
"White, what an awful color. Even if I never see it again it, will be too soon," Hanya muttered to herself, turning her eyes away from the delicate 'going out' dress Charlotte was wearing, prompting the other woman to pull the old military coat closer around herself.
"That bad, huh?"
"Yes." Hanya grabbed the beer and chugged it. Two glasses of clear liquid were set in front of her with a clink, and now words. She threw the first one back before she started to roll the glass around in her hands, focusing on the light that shimmered on the surface.
"Goddamn it Henry. Can you stop having a fight with all your suppliers," Charlotte hissed through her teeth.
That didn't sound good, for Hanya at least. "It's alright. We all know he always has issues. I'll take what he can give me."
"Well, he has your special blend, whatever that is."
"That's good to hear. That's all I really need for now. I don't need any uppers. Sister might, but puppets can't use the drugs most people do, since there is nothing 'ganic about them."
Hanya had heard rumors that they *could* make organic bodies from nothing now, but she knew they wouldn't bother to but Xueyi in one. It was easy to fix an all robotic body after all, especially a robotic body they sent after the most crazed cyber psychos.
"Oh sister, I wonder who you are going after now. Someone easy I hope. I hope to see you soon after all. It's been quite awhile."
Unbidden an image of her sister's real body, dead in her arms came to mind. It was swiftly replace with the mangled corpse of the girl she had seen today.
Hanya froze in her seat, the only hint that something was wrong. Charlotte started mashing more buttons on her phone.
"He's sending sending someone now. Thank God it's not a door opening crow prototype, again," Charlotte sighed as she pulled a tube out of her pocket. She shook the cigar that was in it out. It was already cut so she put it in her mouth before she pulled out a pack of matches and lit it. Hanya just watched, her eyes focusing on the flame before it was quickly shook out.
Her eyes then fell back to the glass in her hands as she listened to her take a puff off her cigar. The pleasant smelling smoke filled her nose, covering the smell of spilled liquor and stale cigarettes. It calmed her and helped ground her back into the present.
The two women just sat there, their silence pleasant and filled by the hum of the bar.
It only took a few minutes for the carrier to arrive. It was a small and nervous mousey woman with purple hair. If she recalled correctly her name was Bernie.
"Henry said it was urgent, so I came as soon as I could. I'm sorry I wasn't faster. Please don't hurt Bernie, I was busy writing, and-"
Charlotte handed over her cigar, with a slightly begrudging look on her face. "Then go back to it," she said as she took the bag from her. "Thanks, by the way."
"Thank you, Bernie." With that the scared woman was off like a shot.
With another sigh Charlotte pulled out another cigar tube as she pushed the plastic bag towards Hanya. She took it and dumped it out on the table and sorted through the small plastic baggies she had been given, not bothering to watch Charlotte light her cigar again.
She ignored the pills and looked at the various small baggies of powder. She looked at the purple chicken scratch writing until she found what she was looking for. 'China white' is was it said, because Henry thought he was funny. It kinda of was the first time, with how his childish brain worked, but Hanya was tired of the color white, even if this white brought salvation.
Hanya took a beautiful wooden box out of her purse. It was a match to the one that held her sacred work brush, which was also tucked safely in her purse, as always. Out of this box she pulled out a small metal tray along with a razor blade. She dumped some of the powder onto the tray and skillfully brushed it into a line with the glimmering blade in a twisted mimicry of her work on the decree she had penned earlier. Yin and yang, just like the symbol on her boxes.
One she was finished she wiped the blade clean before she tucked it away and pulled out a small straw. She quickly snorted up the powder, leaving as little behind as possible. She tucked everything back into the box, including her newly procured baggies, before shutting the box with a gentle click. She tucked it safely back into her purse before leaning back and waiting for one hell to try and relieve her of another.
She looked up at Charlotte who had finally stopped averting her eyes. She wasn't repulsed, Hanya knew that, she was just giving her a moment. She was surprisingly kind like that. She also didn't bother asking if she wanted to talk about what had happened at work, knowing that if it was this bad she should just wait and see if Hanya would talk. Hanya had a habit of answering all the questions she was asked after all, and in slow detail, saying all she deemed necessary to explain.
Hanya, for once, did not feel like speaking. She just took a drink and waited, watching the hands of one of her clock tick in her minds eye. After a few minutes the drug began to kick in. It wasn't her special mix, which was for home, but it felt nice. Much better than work.
Hanya visibly relaxed slowly, well visibly for anyone who knew. She had become a master at controlling herself after all. It's what too many years wandering this earth and seeing terrible, unspeakable, things day in and day out did to a person.
"I hope sister is doing better today than I am. I don't know if I'll be writing this down to tell her about it. I tell her everything, but I don't think she needs anything to make her life harder. The shackling prison is hard enough after all," she sighed.
Charlotte just listened to her mutterings, smoking her cigar.
"Sister, I know it was rightfully decreed, but I wish we didn't have to go through so much suffering. I miss the days where we were able to lounge around in the fields without a care in the world. I would give anything to lay in the sun, making flower crowns together, but those days are done. Gone, never to come again." Her expression was wistful, her glassy dull eyes full of innumerable sorrows.
Flashes of the past danced in her mind's eye, smiling girls in a sunny field, their hair a matching sky blue shimmering against the matching sky. Those were nice days. Better days. Perfect days.
"How 'bout a toast," Charlotte offered, drawing her back. Her glass was lifted and extended towards Hanya. She took her own in hand and clicked it against the other.
"To better, sunnier, days."
"To better days," Hanya echoed before she took a drink.

I decided to recreate Evie, my Red Dead OC, in Cyberpunk 2077! I knew that I'll have to take some liberties with her looks, and after doing so, I took her personality and practically inverted it too! Instead of a quiet, vengeful outlaw living in the woods, she's a charismatic streetkid, striving to become the Queen of Night City. Her iconic auburn hair and green eyes (and most importantly, the lust for blood) had to remain the same, obviously!
It was so fun to pick clothing, and especially piercing and cyberware for her - the RDO Evie would never settle for such modifications.
I'm proud of how she turned out, so much so that I might actually make her my next Cyberpunk OC! wouldn't it be funny if her name was EV? you know, like Evie... b-but V... just kidding haha unless.... If that happens, she might get a proper backstory, ideally based on her RDO story. Maybe even become my canon V as I got too attached to Crystal. She's not even a V canonically and CP77 endings with her became too devastating for me to play them.
And I don't want to complain about RDO character creator, as it's quite powerful if you take time with it, but I found it much easier to control any changes with the CP77 one. I was having the time of my life creating her.
Very cool pics under the cut! I'm starting to fall in love with her tbh.

2023
Tumblr media
2023.
Well, we're halfway through it and I just figured now would be a good time to update all the stuff that is or was or maybe going on with this blog.  If you're still here, thanks for staying!  If you're new, hey welcome!  If you're on your way out the door for a pack of smoke or to get the milk, see ya soon dad!
So here's the rundown.
This is a hub for all the crazy/mundane/weird/eyerolling roleplay writing stuff that I think I'm pretty decent at. On good days.  It's been a year since I had my surgery and I have literally killed a third of myself.  Now to just keep him dead.  Which is hard as my brain is in a good/bad place most of the time to match my body which is in a good/bad place, but I'm keeping it together.  Most of the time.
So if you're interested in a collab, are collaborating, or going 'where the hell did that guy go' I'm still here and I'm getting it back to form.  Ish.  I promise I'll try not to let you all down if we're interacting or will be at some point, which I would love to do!
Now that that's out of the way, here's where I'm playing these days!
THE BLOGS
@sailsonaseaoffate - My Spelljammer blog came true!  Fantasy based sci-fi adventures with Treasure Planet vibes that I do my best to stay with the setting though as with all lore I make my own!  I do what I want.  Either way, this is where most of the Candell family has found a new home on the remade Wayfarer as they search through Wildspace for a way home for some, a new home for others, or bringing that final piece back to their puzzle.  New foes, new ships, plenty of sarcasm, and lots of face punching.  Adventure among the stars with a multiversal family of rogues and swords!
@conduitdreams - Cyberpunk is getting closer to reality than we ever thought possible, which is both very exciting and terrifying.  I'm hoping to lean more into the exciting part of it, but horror and terror are common themes for me as well.  Pulling a lot from cyberpunk epics such as Bladerunner, Strange Days, and Cyberpunk Red/2020/2077, I've been doing my best craft my own little slice of synthetic neon dystopia to build a few stories from.  Midwich is a floating city built in the Gulf of San Andreas after the great quake that split California from the mainland essentially making it's own free floating city-state.  Where most see it as the end of the world for golden state, it has done but flourish thanks to move and now is the ultimate producer of food supplies as well as other natural resources.  New trade markets had to be made and with it came the creation of these middlemen cities that processed items from place to another. It's very loose setting in my head that is welcome for more voices and ideas to help flesh it.  Come run the net and see with artificial vision searching for a soul!
@acrowamongsparrows - Steel for men, silver for monsters.  I love horror.  I love fantasy.  I love the Witcher.  Would I call myself a superfan?  No.  I would I call myself a big fan?  Hell yes.  Do I know all the minutia and information about the world?  Good god no.  But I did make my own witcher and I did piece together a 'Scooby-doo' crew for him to battle all sorts of things that go bump in the night.  I am no lore god (I do respect it though) but these are our stories and I feel like we should be able to tell them how or why we want to.  So, if you'd like to hunt monsters, beat up elves, and dodge vampires join me as Eld of Kovir travels with his nephews into the depths of monstrosity.
ON HOLD
@thedreaminghunger - I had high hopes for Oplisca and wandering the cosmic horror I built up around her with the mythos and the bits of Warcraft butchery that I'd clung too.  But I just can't seem to get a hold of it.  I'm not sure I have enough level in pure weird to truly give her what she needs to become the monster I see in my mind for her.  Traversing the multiverse in search of herself so that she can consume them and grow in power in the many eyes of her 'Love'.  Maybe I'll get there or if someone has an idea to push my feral end of space witch into stratosphere I dream of.
@memoriesofivalice - My poor FF14 characters, I had a big cast and a lot of my mind when I tweaked and created them all for this MMO.  I loved the game but I found myself spending most of my time alone and just kind of got tired of the story grind.  I joined a great guild of storytellers and people, but my heart just couldn't get into it.  As much as I distance myself from WoW, it still hurts me so deeply after everything that happened and continues to happen with them.  Maybe I'm tainted with MMOs.  Maybe I should revamp to just be a Final Fantasy blog and do my own thing with people.  I mean there's 16 of them and only like two really connected by sequels.  I hope an idea comes because this cast deserves to not be forgotten.  Or maybe rebooted at least.
@withanemeraldeye - 'Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. And unto this, Conan, destined to wear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow.'  I used to play a lot of Conan Exiles and I honestly can say I watched Conan the Barbarian once a month when it's streaming as I love everything about sword & sorcery.  Pulp fantasy has always been huge for me to match with the incredible art and style presented by such artists Sanjulian, Jeffrey Catherine Jones, and the king himself Frazetta. So making a brutal pulp fantasy character was inevitable for how much I dig the simple but exciting concept.  But it's been quiet here for me and that breaks my heart for what I put together for Voldrin in the Exiled Lands fighting for survival with the Black Sword across his back.  I hope I can get back into it again.
FUTURE
I am interested in anything or anything to collaborate on.  You wanna do an urban fantasy adventure?  Let's do it Dresdan style.  Airships and moncoles?  I'm there.  Transdimensial time travel with Quantam Leap infintie lives?  That sounds really cool and I would love to explore it.  We run a coffee shop for people in the urban heart of a Pacific Northwest City?  That sounds a lot slice of life, but I am intrigued on what it may bring.
The skies the limit for me and all we need is to do is say 'Hey I got an idea!'
So, that's me.  It's 2023.  I need to be creative.  So do you.
Team work makes the dream work.
Or synergy.
Insert corporate slogan.

The Trenchers of Night City
by LeBenj
Caitlyn jolts awake to the same woman in red, seated right in front of her with her wild pink hair and fierce blue eyes. She clamors back to find a solid wall behind her. Nowhere to run. The neon lights of Night City roll through the windows ahead, and she realizes she’s in the back of a van, the very same van that took her.
“Easy there, Cupcake. Lemme help.” The woman in red softens her expression. The lights and shadows of the city flash over the woman’s face, highlighting the clockwork tattoos spreading down from her neck to her arms.
Then there are the three other kidnappers, surrounded by the spray-on graffiti decorating the van.
“Sorry,” the woman in red says with a smirk, “We weren’t supposed to damage the goods so much.”
Or,
An Arcane / Cyberpunk crossover! In this story…
Vi, an Edgerunner leader, kidnaps Caitlyn for a ransom mission, only to become her reluctant guardian;
Caitlyn, a privileged Arasaka heir, is thrown into the depths of Night City;

Top 10 Badass Cyberpunk Vehicles: Raz's Personal Favorites
In the electrifying world of cyberpunk, where neon-soaked streets meet futuristic tech, transportation takes on a whole new level of cool. There are thousands of cyberpunk vehicles out there, each with its unique charm, but today, we're narrowing it down to my personal favorites. These vehicles not only define the genre but also reflect the essence of cyberpunk - edgy, futuristic, and downright badass. So, let's rev up the engines and dive into this list, complete with a "Badass Rating" out of 10 for each. And remember, the world of cyberpunk is vast, so be sure to share your own favorites in the comments below!
Blade Runner's Spinner
Badass Rating: 9/10
The Blade Runner Spinner is the quintessential cyberpunk vehicle, a hovering police car that patrols the dystopian skies of Los Angeles. Its sleek design, V8 engine growl, and vertigo-inducing flight capabilities make it a standout in the genre. The Spinner's iconic presence is a testament to its enduring popularity and status as a symbol of cyberpunk cool.
Akira's Kaneda's Bike
Badass Rating: 10/10
Kaneda's bright red motorcycle is more than just a mode of transportation; it's a statement of rebellion. With its eye-catching design, unmatched speed, and deafening engine roar, Kaneda's bike is the embodiment of freedom in Neo-Tokyo. Its role in the landmark anime "Akira" cements its legendary status in cyberpunk lore.
Ghost in the Shell's Tachikoma
Badass Rating: 8/10
The Tachikoma, spider-like AI tanks from "Ghost in the Shell," blend cuteness with lethality. These agile and intelligent machines are an indispensable asset for Section 9, combining firepower with unmatched mobility. Their endearing personalities add an unexpected layer of depth to the cyberpunk world.
The Matrix's Nebuchadnezzar
Badass Rating: 7/10
The Nebuchadnezzar is a gritty workhorse in the world of "The Matrix." This hovercraft is the last bastion of humanity's resistance, shuttling the crew between the real world and the simulated one. While it may lack the flashy aesthetics of other cyberpunk vehicles, its importance in the narrative is immeasurable. Judge Dredd's Lawmaster
Badass Rating: 9/10 In Mega-City One, where the law is enforced with an iron fist, the Lawmaster is Judge Dredd's trusty steed. Armored, armed, and AI-assisted, this two-wheeled juggernaut embodies authority and power. It's the perfect ride for dishing out instant justice on the chaotic streets.
Total Recall's Johnny Cab
Badass Rating: 6/10
Johnny Cab may not be the flashiest vehicle on this list, but it's an intriguing addition to the cyberpunk world. As an automated taxi service, it adds a touch of eerie coolness to the streets of "Total Recall." Its unsettling interactions with passengers give it a unique place in the genre.
Deus Ex's VTOL
Badass Rating: 8/10 In the world of "Deus Ex," the VTOL aircraft is the epitome of high-tech transportation. With vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, advanced weaponry, and futuristic aesthetics, it perfectly complements the espionage missions of a cyberpunk agent. Its versatility and sleek design make it a standout choice.
Snow Crash's Deliverator
Badass Rating: 7/10
The Deliverator's high-speed pizza delivery car is all about style and speed. Decked out with gadgets and capable of incredible acceleration, it's the perfect ride for adrenaline junkies in the cyberpunk world. Though its purpose may be mundane, its performance is anything but.
Cyberpunk 2077's Quadra V-Tech
Badass Rating: 9/10
Night City's streets are a playground for the Quadra V-Tech, a sports car that oozes style and speed. Its sleek design, customizable features, and powerful performance make it a favorite among the inhabitants of the cyberpunk world. It's the ideal vehicle for those who crave the thrill of high-speed chases.
Bubblegum Crisis' Hardsuits
Badass Rating: 8/10
The Hardsuits of the Knight Sabers in "Bubblegum Crisis" are a fusion of power and agility. These powered exoskeletons give their wearers superhuman strength and maneuverability, making them formidable cyberpunk warriors. The combination of sleek design and combat prowess earns them a solid spot on this list.
Conclusion:
The world of cyberpunk is a vast playground for cool transportation, and these ten vehicles represent some of the best in the genre. Each vehicle brings its unique charm, whether it's the rebellious spirit of Kaneda's bike, the iconic presence of the Blade Runner Spinner, or the lethal efficiency of the Tachikoma. But remember, there are countless more out there waiting to be discovered. If you have your own favorite cyberpunk vehicles, don't hesitate to share them in the comments below. Stay tuned for more cyberpunk adventures and keep the wheels of imagination turning in this electrifying world!

I don't think I've ever explained who Nightowl is...
Tumblr media
A mockup of Nightowl's holo avatar I made last year... I need an artist to do this professionally.
OC LORE POST
Nightowl is a fixer I created in my Cyberpunk RED campaign I GM for.
CW: A character is permanently disabled under terrible circumstances. Please read on only if you can handle that.
Nightowl is distinguished by his gaunt features (imagine Peter Cushing), his closely cropped hair (he has a mohawk) and his glowing gold eyes. In addition to my players' crew, Nightowl has his own 'dream team' of trusted edgerunners who handle his toughest gigs. He is known to be good to his mercs, giving trusted mercs who are longtime contractors for him bed and board free of charge.
By 2053 (when my first Cyberpunk RED campaign was set), Nightowl was about 50 years old, but looked like a 60-year-old. His life story is incredibly difficult to accurately recount, but he did, at one point, work for Night Corp. His engagement with Night Corp ended after he learned some dark secrets based around his covert operations in NC, and realised he could not work for such a company.
As punishment, Night Corp hired a Militech kill-team led by another one of my Cyberpunk RED OCs (Teacher, who was literally a high school teacher who became Adam Smasher-lite) to kill Nightowl, but they missed him by about five minutes and got his wife and three children instead. Only the oldest, Rebecca, lived, but was horrifically wounded and permanently disabled, forcing her interment in a borg biopod. She became Nightowl's first netrunner, and without access to a frame like Adam Smasher has, Rebecca basically lives in a basement at Nightowl's hideout, living off pureed kibble and interacting with others via holo call and text chat.
As a consequence, Nightowl hates Night Corp and has occasionally taken jobs for Arasaka to damage Night Corp's operations in Night City. Even though he sometimes works for one of the worst corps in NC, Nightowl has taken on a role as 'champion of the working class,' often taking out unionbusters, and sending crews to pull security for protests and strikes. Nightowl despises Scavs with a burning hatred, and often hunts down Scav dens, and sends every merc he works with on at least one Scav hunt. Basically, he tests new mercs by putting them up against the most cutthroat and amoral groups in Night City. They either sink or swim - hell of a test.
Nightowl will appear in Brother's Shadow, and receive a Cyberpunk 2077 NPV after the expansion comes out and all the mods update.

🚓🎤🥢for both boys respectively? :3
core meme-ories | oc list [note: these are for the Cyberpunk 2077 blorbos]
🚓- River Ward
• VIKT — They meet each other after Vikt's retired from mercenary work, which at least means not having Johnny there hounding about "working with a cop". Helping River find Randy comes as just another gig—albeit one of the most fucked up he's done. Dinner with the family afterward is entirely different. It's the first time Vikt has any real interaction with children, which goes much better than he expects.
"Hey, V?" "Yeah?" "Did you let us win?" "Nope. You two are just that good."
River is also one of the very few who can get Vikt to let loose a little bit; them getting wasted up on the water tower and laughing about dumbass constellations they think exist is some of the most fun Vikt has (aside from the next morning, anyway).
• SÖREN — So, these two go back a bit. Ever the trouble making misfit, Sören got snagged by the badges so many times... and sometimes, that badge was River—who would grow tired of being called to Heywood for "a red-eyed hoodlum". Though eventually, the calls stopped, and it would be a handful of years before they meet again.
"Wait... Nightowl?" "Y'never did like calling me by my actual name." "Ah. You're the same as ever, punk." "Ditto that, snoopy."
They hang out a lot together after that. Which neither really expect. After all, what could a lawbreaker and a lawman possibly have in common... right? But, they end up growing close, realizing their paths are strikingly similar... and here, they cross yet again. Eventually, Sören convinces River to leave with him and the Aldecaldos. Leave Night City behind, hunt for something better and brighter—so long as they do it together.
🎤- Kerry Eurodyne
• VIKT — The first Vikt hears and sees Kerry proper (not counting the memories of Johnny he relives during the brain wreck caused by being dead) is laid out on a fancy sofa with a throbbing migraine, an expensive blanket draped over him, and the bright blue eyes of a rockerboy looking down at him with worry.
"Hey, hey, you okay?" "... No..." "That's alright. Just stay tight for a bit. Rest. Don't worry about a thing." "I— Thank you..." "You're... you're welcome. Now, quit stalling. Sleep."
From there, the two are unknowingly latched at the hip. Vikt helps with Kerry's problems, and Kerry provides the privacy of the villa when Vikt needs time out of the city. It's inevitable that their bond blossoms into more. The night on the rooftop of Dark Matter seals the deal, and their excursion on the yacht tells them it is the right call.
• SÖREN — The most interaction Sören has had with Kerry is going to one of his shows with River. They splurged, got the VIP treatment and everything. Met the legend face-to-face—a dream Sören's had for years.
"Holy shit, are you the Kerry Eurodyne? Really?!" "One and only." "Here, I have a gift for ya!" "Fuck, is that... where did you find police-grade 'nades?" "A man never tells. Now, I'm gonna hug you. Okay? Okay."
Needless to say, River is more than unimpressed.
🥢- Jackie Welles
• VIKT — Throughout his grueling years in Arasaka, Vikt ran things solo; at least, until a particular task fell into his lap. Putting a hit on an entire cartel that threatened Arasaka's infrastructure. It was too big of a job for one man, so Vikt took a risk to hire the help of another: the Valentinos. Specifically, a small group led by Jackie.
And, of course, there had to be a hitch. It ended up being a trap. Vikt had to defend himself, murder one of the most prolific cartels of Mexico—and unfortunately, most of the Valentinos alongside him didn't take kindly to that.
All who were left standing in the end were Vikt... and Jackie.
"So? Going to make this quick?" "Nah. There's... been too much death." "What's one more, hm?" "Listen. I don't want this... and neither do you. Consider me... an amigo, and none of this shit will see the light of day." "And why would you offer that?" "Call me inocente if you want. Just... got a feelin' I want you by my side." "Might be a mistake." "Might be."
From then on, Jackie is Vikt's one and only trusted confidant, and he ended up being the pillar that keeps Vikt standing after his life crumbles down to nothing.
• SÖREN — Sören was adopted into the Valentinos as a toddler, rescued from the gutters by Padre. He immediately latched onto Jackie as an older brother figure, and they were an inseparable duo of chaos. Jobs for the gang were a joint effort... except when Jackie was hired to help with the heist of a lifetime.
"Búho?" "What?" "I know you're upset, but... I need to know you'll be here when I get back." "I... I always will be, Jack. I ain't going anywhere. You're my family." "I love ya, hermano." "Don't say that like you won't return, you fuck..." "Oh, come on, don't—" "I love you, too."
It goes without saying that Sören is devastated seeing Jackie's body in the Delamain car. Like his heart has been ripped from his chest. And all he can still think about when he thinks of the man he calls his brother is that fateful day.

Transpunk AU: Lady Eros of the Elysium Club / Hedonis of Night City
**MATURE WARNING: Mentions of sexual themes, drug cartels, mafia shenanigans.**
Taking place in the Cyberpunk 2077 world, Night City now serves as the battleground between the two branches of the biggest megacorporations in the world: Autobots Corporation (Autobot Co.), a military vehicle and weapons production branch of Militech, and Decepticon Cyberware Security (Cyber-Cons),a militaristic cyberware and Netrunner service branch of Arasaka.
Far below their constant war within the Corpo world, survival on the streets of Night City comes in the form of invisibility, crime or gang wars. Here, you’re either a nobody just trying to survive the constant poverty that plagues the city… or you’re somebody with a gun and a plan. Edgerunners and gang leaders are the wealthiest of the lower classes, wealthy enough to be noticed by the many Corporations high above them in their towers and skyscrapers. Therefore, if you’re a denizen of Night City and you wish to live a better life… Your best option is to “chrome up” with some cybernetics, grab a gun, and make your name known across Night City.
Asya Mutheru: Mafia Don, Pop Idol and the Mistress of Ardor
Also known as:
(Publicly) Lady Eros, Don of the Eidolon Ghosts mafia
(Singer persona) Hedonis
Creator of the Aphrodite’s Touch hormonal pills, a.k.a; the Red and Blue A.T drugs
(Voice Claim/Music Style as Hedonis: https://youtu.be/onzf3dyYGRI?t=30 )
Appearance:
Has “chromed” legs that change between high heeled, mid-thigh high boots of shiny silver, to feline digitigrade legs with soft, padded paws bearing lethal claws, her main tool for her work as a Mafia Don out on the field. *
Her eyes are also cyberware, due to their unnaturally bright icy blue irises with a hint of inner rings of gold that glow in dim light and almost like neon in complete darkness, when she activates them. When they’re not used for their intimidation factor, they allow her to zoom in on things that are far away in finite detail, see through walls using heat-detection, and allow her to see in complete darkness. *
Usually has her hair in long dreadlocks with silver-striped golden rings decorating them. Other times, when she wishes to relax her hair, she’ll tie her natural wavy afro into a low ponytail, which can reach over her shoulders in length and is very poofy and volumed in its natural state. *
On a casual day or when she is performing her duties as Lady Eros, she usually wears a dark grey, turtleneck halter crop-top with a low, and very revealing, rectangular shaped cleavage-window bearing strings criss-crossing to form little heart shapes within it (reminiscent of stained glass windows), matched with an orange mini-skirt or bootcut formal pants. *
When on stage or performing somewhere as Hedonis, she wears a sleeveless mini dress made of transparent and skin-tone coloured chiffon, with white and orange glow-in-the-dark rhinestones covering the majority of her body. It leaves nothing to the imagination, but the rhinestones in rose and vine shaped patterns cover only what needs to be hidden and displays only what is risky enough to let the eyes wander, mainly to her chest and back. Her hair and face are also painted in orange streaks to match with her outfit and to hide her identity.
Personality: Asya is generally very charismatic, flirty in a very direct and hands on way, and loves to act sensual when on stage and showing off her skills and beauty. If she can be the centre of attention and be allowed to show off, she’ll be there without hesitation. And while she’s very vain and fond of her looks, she’s also kind and proud of her empire and to those who have earned the right to be called her allies. But for those she does not yet trust… They’ll be considered her toys or drug mules in the making~
When she’s working as the Lady Don of the Eidolon Ghosts mafia, she’s usually stern and focused on her work, but still savours the chance to make her prisoners break and using more enjoyable forms of torture to get the answers out of them, or to press them into becoming her loyal workers. She always has a way of getting rid of loose ends, to make sure nothing is traced back to her. And when it comes to blackmail, interrogation and torture… None dare to grow curious into her methods. But her strength lies not just in her power as a Don… but it stems from her most loyal acolytes in the mafia, the backbone and shield of her empire…
The Cerberus Guards. Through her most powerful and undyingly faithful lap dogs, she controls everything that goes on in her empire and mafia. These loyal soldiers consist mostly in the form of cyborgs and men with strength-boosting cyberware, all of whom wear wire muzzles and collars as a test to break their egos, before it becomes their symbol of their loyalty and dedication to protecting their Lady Don and those within her empire. None are the closest to Asya than her faithful Cerberus, who in turn are rewarded with cyberware, housing, high income and being the only ones seen within her office or who can accompany her in her daytime job. The Cerberus Guards are the only ones seen in public and as a representation of the Eidolon Ghosts, who in turn are tasked in protecting the great singer “as an olive branch from the Lady herself, to show that not all mafias desire destruction”, all to hide her true identity as being the same person.
And luckily, her night life is well hidden not just under her club... but in a more secure backup location that serves as the true heart of her empire... the Olympian Underground. Not a single soul has ever been able to find it so far, as no one but Asya herself, her Cerberus Guards or one of her Cerberus chauffeurs have access to it, where right after their minds and every form of GPS in the car and phone techs will be wiped of the last hour to ensure they never remember where it is, even if they merely stop far on the outskirts of its actual location...... Not even her most faithful Ripperdocs, Elbent or KO, know about it.
As Hedonis, she’s publicly seen as nothing more than a celebrity prostitute, but instead of feeling the pressure of the public trying to put her down and humiliate her, she thrives off of that kind of hate out of pure spite to feed her ego. The more negative comments she gets, the more fuel it adds to the fire of her passion for her work. There’s no greater feeling to her than the thrill of making a music video that pushes at the boundaries of comfort, that shows a deep message under the guise of it being merely “about sex and drugs”, when a more observant eye can spot the meaning beneath the Eros and glamour. When out and about, her Cerberus Guards pay her no mind while serving their duty as bodyguards to the singer… allowing her to playfully touch, nuzzle or mock them to show how little they care about her. But behind closed doors, she always shows how thankful she is to them and their perfect performance~
Under the mask of the sensual leader and performer, however.... she's deeply afraid that one day she will be hunted down by an Edgerunner, who will come to bring her empire crashing down, find her sanctuary, and kill everyone under her protection... when all she dreamed and hoped to achieve was to merely provide a safe haven for those like her or those who needed her.
Description:
Sex, drugs and music fuel Asya’s career and life, where at night she works as both a stage performer within her own night club, Elysium, and as the leader of the Eidolon Ghosts mafia that protect it and the area of Night City that surrounds the club.
Only those closest to her and who work with her intimately in the heart of her business know her real name. For beyond the walls of her night-bound fortress, she is known only as the pop idol Hedonis, one of the few singers able to avoid the paparazzi due to her well organized and massive amount of security personnel who also guard the underbelly of her fortress, known only as the Cerberus Guards… Which works in her favour, as she uses her stardom to find her most loyal fans or merely those who are desperate enough to be her silenced couriers, mules and lackeys (silenced due to the blackmail of a timed virus bomb in their cyberware, which will go off and kill them if they do not obey the singer and finish the task on time) and deliver her most precious gift alongside the most skilled members of the Eidolon Ghosts throughout Night City…
Aphrodite’s Touch, or the Touch of the Goddess… Otherwise known by its street name, Red and Blue A.T’s.
Her medicinal drugs are known to be the only form of affordable gender affirming care, with the safer and more well known option being only available to those with the wealth of a Corpo. But with Asya’s pill version of HRT, even those barely able to afford their rent can gain their male (Blue A.T’s) or female (Red A.T’s) hormones and not risk losing their physical energy or libido as a result of the gradual and welcomed change. However… the risk comes from this lack of loss in their energy, as instead it boosts the libido of the drug taker, which Asya profits from through her club’s surface level underground business… Elysium’s brothel. THIS is how Asya gains the other half of her vast income, and why no one has yet to be able to take down her empire, due to it being an intoxicating escapism obsession for the lowest class of Night City… the only way a person can truly find joy and safety in such a society.
This drug, that even Asya takes to aid in her transition into a woman and with the energy needed for her music career, alongside her famous brothel, are the reasons why Asya is known to the public as Lady Eros.
Her closest allies are as follows:
Dr. Elbent - Former Trauma Team International paramedic, turned Ripperdoc for the Eidolon Ghosts, protected ward of Lady Eros
Dr. KO (Knockout) - Lady Eros's personal Ripperdoc
Vernie (Verglaust) - Cyborg experiment and former soldier of Militech rescued by Elbent, joined the Eidolon Ghosts and became Asya's personal guard/Cerberus lap dog.
Breaker (Breakdown) - Head of Security, the Big Brother eye on every single Cerberus and their whereabouts... alongside their immediate disposal at the first sign of disobedience or possible betrayal. Spares no expense or a single chance at someone possibly betraying them.

2022 Gaming Wrap-Up
What a year, huh? 2022 has had everything from international invasions and stubborn diseases to countless celebrities making a joke of themselves and more superhero shows than anyone asked for. It was basically impossible to predict what was coming next, but if one thing is for sure, the world of video game culture had an absolute banger of a year - long-anticipated sequels, several film and TV adaptations, and what seems to be the hundredth GTA 5 re-release. As we gear up for an exciting new year with plenty of promising upcoming releases, let’s take a moment to look back at 2022 and figure out just what was going on in that mess.
Tumblr media
JANUARY-MARCH    The year was off to a rocky start, with the announcement that E3 would once again be cancelled due to COVID concerns. These last three years have been rough for the world’s biggest gaming convention; 2020 saw the first-ever cancellation in 25 years, 2021 featured an online-only version of the event, and now it’s been cancelled for the second time. Thankfully, the Entertainment Software Association that hosts E3 stated that they planned to re-open the event for 2023, but time will tell if that remains possible by then.   In brighter news, the Steam Deck was released in February, a handheld platform for on-the-go access to Steam’s entire gaming library. Just keep an eye on the battery life - you’ll likely get only an hour or two of God of War before it hits the red. The first three months of the year also featured the release of some highly-anticipated new games: Horizon: Forbidden West continued the award-winning story of Zero Dawn, Kirby and the Forgotten Land brought a return to the cute and occasionally terrifying Dream Land, and the long-awaited Elden Ring dominated sales as the year’s best-selling title.
Tumblr media
APRIL-JUNE    After a hectic start to the year, things slowed down a little in the second quarter. A handful of smaller events were held in lieu of E3, starting with the Summer Games Fest, including announcements for The Callisto Protocol and Goat Simulator 3. The second Sonic the Hedgehog film was also released to positive reception, while the Halo series on Paramount+ was released to…much less positivity. It appears that video game adaptations are still hit-or-miss, but at least we’ve improved since the old 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros. movie. We don’t talk about that one.   Back to the actual games, Diablo Immortal was released in June; while it was a passably decent mobile game, it also serves as an early example of the worrying trend of microtransactions coming from Blizzard Entertainment. With extremely predatory (and concerningly effective) pay-to-win mechanics, Immortal continues to push Blizzard into their downward spiral that began last year. They’ve come a long way since the days where they were once at the height of the respected developers list, and their chances of clawing their way back up seem grim. At least LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and The Quarry brought some much-appreciated quality to this month’s games library.

JULY-SEPTEMBER    Video game history was made at the start of the year’s second half, with the biggest leak ever: Grand Theft Auto 6. That’s right, after 9 whole years since the original release of GTA 5, we finally have concrete confirmed proof of a sequel, all thanks to a devastating leak revealing a massive new open-world map and over an hour of early gameplay. Rockstar Games confirmed the validity of the 90+ leaked videos, and went on to say that while it would not impact the game’s development, they were extremely disappointed by their hard work being revealed by some random hacker. Leaks may be fun and exciting for the fans, but developers keep things under wraps for a reason!   Back beyond the controllers, another game adaptation was started in September: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a Netflix anime series based on Cyberpunk 2077. It was met with near-universal praise, exploring the dangerous streets of Night City in a way that the game never did with unique characters and a compelling new story. It’s a bright sign for video game adaptations, and here’s hoping it opens the way for more high-quality game series. For those that prefer the games themselves, the adorably demonic Cult of the Lamp took the roguelike genre by storm, Stray told a fascinating story through the eyes of a cute little kitty, and Splatoon 3 quickly jumped to the top of millions of Switch players’ libraries within days of release.

OCTOBER-DECEMBER    Things always seem to ramp up in the gaming community towards the end of the year, with plenty of major new releases on top of the Game Awards that were held in early December. Two of the year’s biggest releases came out around this time; God of War: Ragnarok, the climactic follow-up to Kratos’ 2018 Norse adventure, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet bringing one of the world’s largest franchises to its’ next generation. The massive RPG Elden Ring managed to topple the competition as 2023’s Game of the Year, while Splatoon 3 won a well-deserved Best Multiplayer Game.   Additionally, October saw the release of DC’s open-world RPG Gotham Knights, bringing co-op to the beloved Arkham series but falling short on matching its’ iconic combat mechanics. Meanwhile, Overwatch 2 launched with fun new gameplay held back by yet more of Blizzard’s monetization schemes. The bizarre combination of Super Mario with the chaotic Rabbids returned with Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and the hair-raising survival horror of The Callisto Protocol hit the best-selling list within a week of release. Overall, the end of the year looks to be full of all kinds of exciting games, a perfect way to spend the holidays as 2022 draws to a close.

LOOKING FORWARDS    With 2022 almost over, it’s time to make those new year’s resolutions and set our sights on the future. 2023 already has quite a few exciting new releases planned, like Spider-Man 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. On top of that, two games will be getting the silver screen adaptation treatment, including The Last of Us being turned into a HBO series starring the Mandalorion himself, Pedro Pascal, as Joel Miller. The animated Super Mario Bros. Movie also has a newly-revealed release date for April, with absolutely beautiful visuals that will faithfully bring all your favourite Mario levels straight to the big screen. If things go according to plan, we’ll also be back at E3 in 2023 after the convention’s spotty attendance in the last three years, so get ready to scramble for those tickets.
2023 looks to be following the welcome trend of great singleplayer gaming still going strong - it’s not all about online multiplayer these days despite what it might seem, and I for one am very glad to keep playing solo all year long if I can. See you in the new year, everyone!   Happy Holidays!       - An Aussie Button-Masher

Since I'm deep in Cyberpunk 2077 again I have this stupid idea for Steddie CP2k77 au. Eddie is just a Maelstrom member who drink and riot at Totentanz every night, do shitty jobs for his boss and Steve is a Militech agent who had to do some sneaky deal against Arasaka with Maelstrom boss but have to deal with hyperactive curly haired idiot instead. Eddie with modified Dum Dum faceplate - those seven red eyes, chrome and metal sticking out of the residues of his real skin, vampire teeth implants, custom cyberarms, this fuckin' leather maelstrom jacket with spikes... And Steve in his stupid corpo suit, perfect hair, perfect wife at home, perfect job, perfect salary, black Caliburn parked nearby, apartment in Charter Hill, Westbrook NC and his dumb love for Munson who was his secret high school crush back in 2067.
And if he had the newest Mr.Stud ten what?
And if Eddie is ftm then what?
And if they all die because some deep shit named V with Johnny Silverhand ghost in their head kills everyone and everything around them then what?
