We have a question that could be a tiny bit controversial.

Is it possible to be a traumagenic and gateway system simultaneously?

Or how would you call a headmate that may have their own world, memories and whatnot and may think these were real at some point or might be real in a parallel universe, yet knows very well they are within a medical condition?

we really don’t see why not.

everyone is capable of being traumatized. trauma isn’t some exclusive thing that only happens to children who later develop dissociative disorders.

it’s possible for any kind of system, endogenic, gateway, parogenic, willogenic, whatever… to be mixed origins and simultaneously be traumagenic.

the only exception being did/osdd - these disorders do require repeated trauma in childhood in order to form. but it is possible even for these systems to develop headmates with other origins.

mixed origins systems are very real and their experiences and stories are just as valid as any other system. these folks deserve to be able to take up space in traumagenic spaces if trauma played a role in their system’s formation.

we’ll also say that pseudomemories, projected memories, and exomemories are an incredibly common experience in dissociative disorders. the brain will often attempt to explain away trauma or fill in gaps caused by amnesia with logical, though false, information. substitute beliefs can be a big part of many systems’ lives, ours included.

we’ll talk a bit about a trauma holder in our system, mk (thank you mk for consenting to us talking about this!!).

mk is an introject of meta knight from kirby. he holds some contradictory beliefs about himself and our system, believing both that he is a star warrior from a distant galaxy and also a child part struggling to come to terms with painful traumatic memories. he genuinely feels like a walk-in, an alter who entered our system from somewhere else in the universe.

through therapy, we’ve been processing mk’s pseudomemories. these memories feel incredibly real for mk and are an intrinsic part of who he is. they are often quite grim, involving the los of his home, personal autonomy, loved ones, and physical ability in outer space.

none of these things really happened. and as we continue to learn more about each other and our trauma history, it has become clear the reason why our brain felt the need to assign these exomemories to mk.

they function by disguising the trauma that we actually went through, warping what happened to turn it into something easier for us (and particularly mk) to come to terms with and accept.

as a child, it was easier for mk to believe that he was an injured warrior, a character overcoming adversity like in the videogames we played, than to believe that one of our primary caregivers was regularly taking advantage of and assaulting him. as a little kid, this was how he had to understand the world. this was the only way he could make sense of the abuse - by warping those memories into something completely different. and those warped memories remain to this day.

we believe that many traumagenic systems have experienced something similar. and if some of these systems want to call themselves gateway, or mixed origins, or use some other label… that’s fine. it may not be the best thing for recovery, but recovery is an incredibly lengthy, scary, and arduous process. no one should have to confront their trauma-formed beliefs before they’re fully ready.

we’re so sorry if this response is overwhelming or too much information. really though, we understand where y’all are coming from, and we believe that something like this absolutely could happen. hell, something similar has happened in our own system!

Did someone say something about a certain singer coming around to start her early December songs in the month of November? Well- now that Spookyween is over! Kirby also has some tunes he wants to sing! He was always a sucker for karaoke.

They didn't think that this was how their Halloween was going to go. Needing to use their costumes as disguises to blend in, even if everyone wouldn't care if they weren't really "locals." They thought it'd be good to still keep up the spirit of these folks by trying to draw as much attention away from themselves. Even if their invitation said they'd 'transform'... clearly seems to be a misprint. Or just doesn't work on Puffballs... At least that's what Meta thought until Shirby's Meta showed up. Seeming more fangy than normal.

And they weren't the only ones with this idea... Is that a banana?- Whatever!- Despite their close encounters with almost blowing their cover. Because of someone's large appetite. The three of them were enjoying the time. Carving some pumpkins. With what time they had until Kirby's tummy could start talking for him.

Meta Knight was pleasently surprised with both of their carving skills decently so at their drawings, but it's the thought that counts. All was going well. Kirby managing to sit through looking at his pumpkin for ten minutes!...

Until a faint rumble could be heard coming from the pink puffball. A little trail of drool running from his mouth when he seen a Pumpkin rolling (or walking) away
