Random TGCF AU of the day:
Space-time shenanigans result in main canon He Xuan wandering into an AU where the fate swap didn’t happen.
He ascends as a civil god, and is doing quite well for himself, only his presence has unexpected ramifications for a few people
SWD can no longer save his brother via fate swap. He is not giving up obviously and will find another way no matter who he has to screw over (though HX would really really like it if he didn’t screw someone else over thank you very much), but in the meantime he is very much devoted to keeping his little brother safe and under control.
A necessity probably given that this little brother is an anxious mess afraid of his own shadow, with only shades of the bright determined Shi Qingxuan of the main timeline. He’s got all the comfort and wealth he could ever need and zero sense of confidence or independence.
Also different is the new civil god Ling Wen. She’s closed off and unpopular and may or may not be responsible for some sabotage He Xuan keeps encountering. Oh well it’s nothing to worry about. With dwindling followers she’s well on her way out anyway…
#(SWD is the cicada HX is the mantis and LW is the oriole he is not paying attention to)#Pei Ming is here somewhere too!#tgcf#he Xuan#Shi Qingxuan#Shi Wudu#Ling Wen#random tgcf thoughts#I once had an idea where sqx went back in time to a pre date swap verse#but there were a lot of problems with that to work out#anyway the main problem here is is this a pre or post revenge hx#because those are two very different hx to explore xD#also need to think about how to treat hx’s family in this scenario#there is one great Russian fic I read where hx learns that the tragedies in his life were not actually because of the fate swap#but I feel that goes against the whole point of his revenge#but at the same time I don’t like the idea of hx’s life being all good and happy if the fate swap didn’t happen#he was meant to ascend which means he was meant to face trials in life#(points at every other god with various traumas in their life and no roew to blame it on)#but also I don’t want to hurt them because the first thing hx would do in this AU is go see his family because he loves them & misses them!#I just want a HX in a lotus water machine scenario and dealing with a much weaker terrified sqx#who is completely codependent on swd in this verse#which hx finds extremely annoying#and decides to make sqx fix his RoEW problem on his own instead of dragging others into it#(hx proceeds to drag others into it)#swd meanwhile hates him but also recognizes that he’s not the worst person for sqx to be around#(at least as long as sqx is still dependent on him just a little less scared)#(it’s not going to stop him from helping ling wen plot murder if she asks nicely but progress?)

@healiotrope gets a visit from Callie after the hunt...
Her mom and dad were afraid to let her out of their sight after that whole fucked up scene in the forest. Callie knew part of it was because of the fact that someone just died (and it could have been so much worse), but a part of her knew that there was still a lingering thread of distrust for her actions. The cop, the gun, everything about Adam Martin...
But if this whole mess had taught the girl anything, it was that when her mother tried to keep secrets, people would end up dead. That's why she needed some answers. She had to know what was going on in that cult woman's head -- and if they really would have killed Shauna if given the chance.
Callie had no loyalty to the Yellowjackets. In fact, they'd done nothing but cast a massive fucking shadow over her life since day one. But now she felt like she was a part of something, as much as mother dearest had tried to keep her out of it. And that something compelled her to find the hospital where they'd taken the woman she shot, the one with dark hair and doe eyes that shined through her fucked up feathered mask -- Lottie. It was Lottie, right? That's what her dad said. Her mom didn't talk about that woman much at all (and maybe for good reason).
So when she got to the hospital, Callie did her best to convince the resident nurse she was family (who else would call her Lottie, not Charlotte?), hoping the woman in question wouldn't turn her away when she recognized the girl without the gun. Yeah, so she forgot to bring flowers -- she came as soon as she heard. It was believable enough, because she was let through eventually. She stood in the doorway of Lottie's room, terrified of having gotten this far. Callie had no plan, she wasn't even sure what she would get out of this, but she had to try... right?
"Lottie." It was a statement, not a question, as she stepped forward over the threshold and over her fears. "I... I want to talk to you."

Gambling Apocalypse Tenma AU
As I rewatch Kaiji I inevitably end up wanting to combine show I like with other show I like and stuffing fav characters into show. So here we are.
This was uh going to be a short summary type thing but I accidentally wrote a novella about it sorry
This AU starts off with a much more depressive Tenma. After Tobio's death, rather than immediately pour his grief into developing a robot version of his son, he recedes into himself, psychologically paralyzed, likely turning to alcohol to drown out his anguish.
His mental state is taken as an opportunity within the Ministry of Science to have him ejected from his position; Tenma was never the most well-liked director, and there were those with ambition to usurp him that would jump at the chance. Not that he especially cares in his state.
He's eventually dragged out of his stagnation by Ochanomizu - who, inadvertently, becomes the very catalyst pushing Tenma to develop a robot replacement to his child. This was not what he meant by encouraging Tenma to fill the void left by his son.
...But, well, he is no longer the director of the Ministry of Science. His access to limitless government funds and resources for "scientific research" has been cut off, and this is a project he cannot finance on his own. He can't ask Ochanomizu for help, but...interestingly...a representative of a certain shady organization known as the Teiai Corporation reaches out to him, offering to finance and support his project. A sane and well-minded Tenma might think better of it, but grieving and desperate, Tenma accepts their offer and is able to create a robot in the image of his beloved Tobio. For a while, there's joy in his life.
But the bill, as ever, comes due: Tenma must pay up, and the very resources that had been at his disposal will certainly ensure that he will, or else. Of course, he doesn't have the money; instead, he is given a choice. He can relinquish the robot Tobio in order to wipe out his debt - the child is a sophisticated and powerful robot, after all - or he can participate in a certain illicit event hosted by the Teiai Corporation.
It's nothing major...just a four-hour gambling cruise with a collection of desperate, damned souls that were also swept into debt with Teiai. The conditions are simple: Those who choose to participate are given a chance to clear their debts wholesale should they win. And should they lose...?
Well...no one really knows what happens to the losers seized by Teiai. It's said that they labour away their debts under Teiai's watchful eye and are freed once their work has covered their debts, though it's rumoured that most perish before they reclaim freedom.
There's only one answer Tenma can give, of course; he's not willing to lose Tobio again.
Thus is Tenma's debut into the Gambling Apocalypse, where he must become cutthroat in order to survive; if he wants to see his son again, he must make choices that will doom the hapless to miserable servitude, with a nonzero chance it ends in their death.
He survives the cruise, but of course, it was hardly enough to clear his debt; the cruise was never going to be the end of it. Teiai doesn't let go of its victims that easily. He will be called on again: this is a weight that hangs over him, all while he returns to his son Tobio. The same hands that have pushed innocents into hell must now be the hands that can embrace his child.
He wants to protect Tobio from the truth and enjoy what peaceful moments he's allowed with his son, but it's difficult. It's difficult to be the parent of a child who cannot understand the danger that looms ahead; this "happy" home is not to last. Tenma angers quickly and easily. He turns that anger onto Tobio.
As Teiai's games become more and more vicious and unrelenting, as his conscience holds onto the last vestiges of thread that remain, Tenma even threatens, once, to give the boy in: it would all end, then; the debt would be clear and no longer would he have to endure Tobio's childish annoyances, his ungratefulness.
The next time that Tenma is beckoned, Tobio takes matters into his own hands. He does understand, now; and he would have, if only Tenma had bothered to explain sooner. If it's a debt that needs clearing, he will work. He will help his father clear his debts however he can. Of course, it's difficult to find work as a child; but a circus troupe finds amusement in the idea of a child robot, and takes him in. He is whisked into a certainly unpleasant working situation, but he remembers his father, and what he must be enduring. Tobio, also, will endure.
When Tenma returns, Tobio is gone.
All that held Tenma back from becoming something monstrous has disappeared. All that kept him going has disappeared. When he is called upon by Teiai, there is no knowing what sort of person might come out the other end; whether a monster clawing his way to freedom regardless of what actions he must take, or a desolate husk surrendering defeat.
There is still a light, however dim: Found by Professor Ochanomizu and rescued from the circus, Tobio - now Atom - is able to shed light on the situation which Tenma took great pains to keep hidden from his old friend. With time running out, Ochanomizu and Atom must do what they can to save Tenma - from Teiai, and from himself.
-----
UHHH and that's a wrap!!!! I couldn't quite decide which way Tenma would go after hitting Rock Bottom in this AU, and tbh it would really depend on the kind of mental state he's in at the time. On the one hand I like the narrative of Ochanomizu and Tobio racing to prevent Tenma from crossing a line (actual outright murder probably) - or having to pull him back into humanity (and yknow, his ensuing penance)
But on the other hand having him get sent to Teiai Evil Hell Prison would be interesting because a) there's a lot of narrative potential having Tenma faced with what Teiai is doing with the people that lose the games and b) need him to decimate the foreman at chinchirorin Kaiji style
Tenma's whole character is definitely a much different guy in this AU, he starts off pretty sympathetic, the guy you wanna root for, he just ends up having an inverse character arc where he gets worse instead of better. His conflict with "Tobio" is also kind of reversed, less about being unsatisfied with Tobio as a son and more not being able to handle the fact that he probably has intense PTSD now and isnt capable of coping with it in a way conducive to being a parent (or like, coping at all)
Anyway that's gambling apocalypse tenma!!!

oh survivor!fawn we are really in it now
#gideon shut the hell up challenge#people keep saying they’re sorry for your loss. Your Loss. that is how they refer to your brothers. how they refer to you.#you have always been one of three. part of the pack. and that has always been fine but now you are alone and you are not You but your loss.#julia says sorry for your loss. ricardo says sorry for your loss. you yell that it should be their loss too. it is everyone’s loss.#they have lost your brothers and now they have lost you too. (fate works in funny ways you think)#at the funeral people offer apologies. offer you flowers. offer you baked goods and stories of how [your loss] saved them or their mom or#their dad’s uncle’s wife’s coworker’s daughter’s friend from childhood or someone else equally unimportant. someone alive.#[I’m sorry for your loss] they all say and you do not say thank you. there is no being thankful for [your loss].#[I’m sorry] says ricardo. you stop listening. [I’m sorry] says julia. you wonder if she said it to the man she punched.#you do not apologize back. you do not let it be [their loss]. it is yours. they have always been yours.#[I’m sorry] says chen . for river and cyrus. the first to use their names with you. to acknowledge them as your brothers. to make them more#than just the pieces of you that have been broken. and you thank him.#we like writing in tags sorry !!!! also at some point the original idea was that any parts of ‘I’m sorry for your loss’#would start distorting and then get blacked out to show like. when u hear smth so much and esp w grief that u just block it out#anyway. survivor!fawn but still factoring in that chen is not afraid to just. Say Things.#esp in v3 I think the ortegas would be even more cautious w fawn out of wanting to not upset them and meanwhile chen is like yeah I’m gonna#just straight up acknowledge ur brothers for u bc I can tell that’s what u need#we are also thinking abt v3!au and fawn being heartbreak but. that’s not for this post obvs#verse: you are the survivor; you carry the guilt

Vanishing Fate
@unpaidpiper liked for a starter
Summoned.  Again.  While not obligated to answer the call, the timing just happened to be opportunistic and thus, Yin responded.  The description was vague but simple.  A missing child, disappeared from a secure room, all family and family friends had alibis...supposedly.  No witnesses, no clues left at the scene as though the little girl had just vanished without a trace.  Of course, there were a few likely suspects, but Yin had his doubts.  Nevertheless, he thought to investigate on his own, as was his usual motif.  In truth, he questioned the motives of the investigative team anyway, who seemed a bit too eager to point the finger and apprehend someone, guilty or not.
Perhaps that was the reason that tipped Yin’s scales, that tempted him to nudge the team in one direction while he went in another.  Why?  Protecting the innocent, perhaps.  Perhaps protecting the guilty.  Only the subject of his own search knew the truth of innocence versus guilt.
His voice was heard before his body was seen, the tone disembodied and haunting, soft and ethereal as it seemed to come from all directions around the one with the flute.  “They are searching for you...”
Silently, he manifested, stepping from shadows with fluid, eloquent steps as he approached, eyes darker than the abyss locked onto the piper with an unblinking stare, accompanied by the chill of his immediate presence.  “Will you run or will you stand, I wonder...”

@sisscl ❤'d for a starter with Shades!
Being in prison was a torment.
One that he thought he rightfully deserved. After everything he'd done to Jowd and his family and to Lynne, he thought he deserved to be locked up forever. The only thing that prevented that thought from going further, was the fact he actually had someone waiting for him outside of that dark cell.
Someone he loved with all his heart. Someone he saw dead in the old timeline. Someone who didn't know the monster he had become.
She always came, everyday, to check on him. The first few months weren't pretty, with Yomiel struggling to remain sane after experiencing ten years of undeath, developing a mental condition known as Cotard Syndrome and refusing to eat because he thought his body didn't need it, because he still thought he was dead and this was all a dream.
She wasn't the only Sissel to visit him, though.
The first time he received his best friend's visit, he was in shock. Never in his wildest dreams, he'd think his best friend would end up in the same predicament as he was. But even if the thought terrified him, being able to talk with Sissel again was what helped him get a grip on his sanity and realize that he wasn't dreaming, that he actually had his fate averted.
He was in the middle of painting something when he felt the familiar presence in his mind.
“Hey, buddy.” He greeted mentally, his tone, even in the Ghost World, revealing how tired he actually was. “Wasn't expecting you to come so early today, but I'm glad you came. Couldn't sleep well this night.” As if he ever slept well ever since that day in the park.

@hcreath, cont. from here
How typical of her master, to think of Ishtar's enjoyment before her own. Ishtar laughed, the sound bright and warm like sunlight, and reached into her sarong to draw out three gleaming red, quarter-sized rubies. They were a familiar sight, of the sort that both she and her host had used numerous times in combat. Each would shoot off multiple beams of energy that sought out their target, dealing a decent chunk of magical damage.
" Consider these a blessing from a benevolent goddess to her adoring devotee, " she said with a self-satisfied smile, lifting her hand to display each between her splayed fingers. " Should anything go awry during your mission and you become separated from the others, you may use them to defend yourself. They should each hold about five charges - use them sparingly. "
Ishtar was Rin, and Rin was Ishtar. Her vessel had been summoned in her prime, no more than twenty at her eldest, but the face was the same as that of the gifted prodigy Tamar had known during her time at the Clock Tower. That same face twisted now in sudden realization of the affection she had shown, a pointed sniff coming from the goddess as she crossed her arms across her chest and averted her gaze.
" Er, anyway... Make sure you come home in one piece! I will not hesitate to invade whatever sorry anomaly you end up in to drag your ass out of danger if I have to, " she sniffed, bristling at the very thought.

Someone: Hey, are you okay?
Me, internally: The SAW The Musical thing was supossed to be a joke but now I'm three songs deep into writing a musical for it and one of them is already finished. I want to publish it on Tumblr but to properly display the tone, pacing and instrumental make up of the songs I would have to record myself singing them and playing my guitar to it. And I am far to insecure about it. But I am so proud of the songs, too. They are really creative and I overcame my issue with using the same rhythm for all the songs I write. What do I do?
Me: Yeah, sure.

he sits on the edge of the tub, bones heavy and weary from the day's hunt, the aftermath splayed out across his dermis. streaks of torn flesh along the expanse of his back, accompanied by a few jagged sanguine lines on his leg. it seems, with time, that the creatures are starting to adapt to their predators; no longer announcing their whereabouts and instead stalking the hunters as though they are the prey. porcelain streaked with blood, evidence of near demise, and ben already feels exhausted to try to clean himself. when he hears the other person enter the room, his body tenses; it feels far more intimate to see him like this than anything. "i just need a minute," he sighs out in a breathy exhale, frustration biting in the undercurrents of his timbre.

@musesfromthefifthdimension - continued from here!
--
Rarely did Kaimaunahi ever meet a foe so vicious, so powerful, so violent - let alone one that was a true equal to him in strength. Even rarer did he find a foe that could surpass his power.
And he could not remember the last time he met a foe that nearly killed him.
The battle, from what the King could recall of it, was as brutal as it was brief. He had homed in on a unusually strong source of radiation out in the Pacific, only to find it belonged to a similar-looking beast laying Hell upon an unfortunate human fleet. He held no strong affection for the crafters, but he would not allow such an unwarranted transgression - thus, he promptly met the beast in battle.
Teeth and claws drew blood from both King and Destroyer, proving they were of equal strength. His inner star-fire seared the beast's flesh, but Kaimaunahi had not been prepared for when the Destroyer unleashed their own tainted flames upon him. It only became apparent to him that his foe was of unnatural origin when the radiation-soaked lance of light burned far more harshly than usual - in a desperate act to keep himself from sustaining critical damage, he fired his own beam, causing the two to clash for a moment.
Then everything had gone white, as though the very Sun had fallen from the sky onto the two warring titans, and he could not remember anything of the battle beyond that.
Kaimaunahi could only guess that, were it not for the lingering radiation he could absorb and heal himself with from what was surely a blast of borderline apocalyptic scale, he would be dead. He vaguely recalled drifting on sea currents, wearily following the distant call of life-giving energy, crawling ashore to a ruined city, and then falling unconscious again. Now that the King had properly roused, he realized that this place had once bore testament to the Destroyer's fury.
That, and he was not alone.
While the King was still too weary to get up - let alone properly move from his impromptu resting place - he recognized the tiny, scurrying forms of humans around him, in suits designed to shield themselves from the life-energy that he fed upon. Even now his body passively drew in and processed the lingering radiation of the ruins to soothe his wounds.
And one of them was in front of his snout. Close enough to where he could all but feel their thoughts, vague blobs of concepts and terms buzzing around like a swarm of insects. Out of curiosity, he had reached out with his own consciousness and Touched them - Kaimaunahi could not deny the fact that it amused him slightly to watch the little thing clearly be startled by the sudden voice in their head.
'The touch of death. The touch of the Destroyer,' repeated the voice in Noda's mind - it was clearly not of human origin, yet it spoke in his tongue perfectly. It was ancient. Masculine, to some degree. Primordial.
If he turned, he'd find that one of the titan's golden eyes had fluttered open; still half-lidded, but acutely focused on him.
'This place - it has bore witness to the Destroyer's fury, has it not?'

Alright, time to put my nose to the grindstone and write out a post detailing my "From the Fire" verse. Or try to, at least.
During The Night of Flames, in Elwin's efforts to see Joshua escape from Phoenix Gate, he was beheaded by traitors to the duchy. The trauma of the scene, compounded by Clive's last words to Joshua being that he was counting on him to protect their father, was too much for the child to bear, and he lost control -- transforming into Phoenix.
However, Joshua had little to no control over the Eikon's powers in his distressed state, leading to indiscriminate death for both foe and friend.
But Phoenix's power is over both life and death -- and it was this fact that spared some, most notably the Archduke. The regenerative magics mended his fatal wound and breathed life back into his body just enough that he was able to cling to life by a thread, unbeknownst to either of his sons. When all was over, and Anabella and accompanying Sanbrequian soldiers arrived to the scene and apprehended a devastated and half-conscious Clive, they also found Elwin amidst the rubble. And much like they had done with his eldest son, they took him prisoner.
Unlike Clive, however, Anabella made sure that he would not be made a soldier for the Imperial Army. No, that would be too good for him, and allow him to retain some semblance of his pride as a skilled swordsman. The former Archduke had always held a kind and soft spot for the Bearers and Branded of Rosaria, so why not let him join the gutter rats he so loved? And so he was branded and made into a common slave.
He spent his years in Oriflamme under the name of "Miles", working as one of the Holy Empire's many Branded, and treated with every bit of disdain, contempt, and cruelty as any other -- as one would expect, given that his true identity had been stripped of him(not that anyone would believe who he was, even if he said). He watched from afar as the Iron Kingdom invaded Rosaria and slaughtered and enslaved his people, and as Anabella sold out their homeland to further her own agenda, effectively dissolving the Grand Duchy and turning it into just another territory of Sanbreque. He watched as she married Emperor Sylvestre Lesage and became Empress, and as she undid or twisted every bit of good that Elwin had done for Rosaria all while knowing that he would see her work and suffer in powerlessness to stop her.
It was not the despair of a jilted lover that he felt towards his former wife, but the despair of knowing that she would ruin and end so many innocent lives just to spite him.
And so it was, until eventually Cid Telamon's Cursebreakers smuggled the small group of Bearers and Branded that he happened to work with out of Oriflamme and beyond Sanbreque's borders. They found themselves in Hideaway, liberated.
It was here that "Miles" learned of Cid's grand dream for a changed world, and his ongoing efforts to overturn the long-standing order and traditions in favor of establishing and normalizing equality for all. Needless to say, Elwin was quite taken by this ambition, for it was something he too had dreamed of. He was also quite taken by the people of Hideaway and their dedication and determination to seeing this dream become a reality, and how they worked together in harmony to keep their makeshift home blooming despite the Blight that surrounded them.
Unlike him, their struggles and traumas, far greater than his own, had not broken them, nor had it driven them to give up. It had only made them that much more resilient and determined and hopeful for a brighter tomorrow -- a tomorrow that they themselves may not see, but nonetheless planted the seeds of for future generations.
And like any other seeds, with cultivation and care they would eventually grow and bear fruit for all to enjoy.
He wanted to help them. He wanted to do what he could to aid their cause, and so "Miles" chose to pledge his skill with a sword to the Cursebreakers, undergoing the surgery to have his brand removed and joining their ranks.
As a personal desire, Elwin does want to liberate Rosaria, though not to reclaim his family's right to rule. He simply wants to see his people freed, especially from Anabella's treachery. He is aware of the Guardians of the Flame hiding in the shadows outside of Port Isolde, but he does not visit them in person, and he certainly does not try to reveal his true identity to them. Instead, he helps them from a distance, watching over their order and keeping track of their movements and actions.
There is much that he feels extreme guilt for, but he doesn't expect nor seek forgiveness for his deeds; he only wants to do his part for the future, to help rectify the mistakes of his past actions as Archduke of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria.

Ever since the Sakoku Decree has been abolished, the nation of Eternity became open to the world once more. Thus, those from Inazuma are able to travel in other nations without too much restrictions.
Given a part time job by the Yashiro commission, he was tasked to deliver goods in Port Ormos. It was his first time travelling outside the aforementioned nation so everything was new to him upon setting foot to one of the places in Sumeru. It felt like a completely different world to him, much to his awe.
Just when he was enjoying the scenery, he saw a thief stealing someone else's coin pouch. The victim wasn't able to notice it until that thief dashed away. Conscience had the young man chase them, tracking their scent before they could even get too far from sight.
