whenever I read fics and see that they have characterization that matches my headcanons I always wonder if we all have the same braincell and extrapolated this from canon individually, or if we all saw someone else do it ages ago and went “oh yeah that’s going straight into my belief system” and then forgot

I know this is more along the lines of a hc but hear me out. Technically the ex-nobodies now have the best of both worlds, keyblades are no longer super effective on them, they have their nobody powers/ weapon (or they SHOULD since Lea has his soooo) even if they’re a bit different and part of that difference is that they have a heart! The heart can fuel their powers instead of the nothing and that could potentially be more powerful even if they can’t do all the things they used to (I mean they could maybe also do some new things!).

Long story short I need them to not be ‘powerless side characters who never do anything again’ because that makes no sense. Like they canonically have strong hearts, they wouldn’t have been able to become nobodies in the first place if they didn’t. So they should still be able to fuck shit up after a suitable adjustment to being a somebody period (*cough* 1 year time skip) and I want to see them do that. ESPECIALLY to someone who would underestimate them due to the lack of keyblade.

Can you imagine one of the foretellers being like ‘ha you have no keyblade! You cannot harm me!’ And they’re like: ‘you wanna bet bitch?’ They don’t even necessarily have to win the fight (though I’d prefer it cuz I love them lmao) but I want them to be able to stand their ground/be an actual threat and get some good hits in on those who will underestimate them.

Like their nobody abilities can be the aces up their sleeves (literally for Luxord lol) because they’re completely unique. Again take the foretellers for example; they’ve fought plenty of keyblade wielders in their time, that’s normal for them, but the nobodies??? The likes of Ienzo’s illusions, Aeleus powering up or Luxord’s card/time madness could easily take them by surprise and I would love to see that instead of all their really cool weapons and powers being forgotten.

!!!!! oh my GOSH!!! talk about a blast from the past!!! i would love a little stroll down memory lane, hehehe!!!

14. My favorite line from this fic was [xyz]. What inspired it?

ahhhh, i love that that line resonated with you - i felt sooo slick writing it, way back when!

so!!! as this was a silent hill crossover, i was really, really trying to capture the idea of the town (or in this case, world) using the protagonist's inner turmoil against them. "how does it feel to be on the other side for once?" was absolutely meant to sort of twist the knife in the sense that it alluded back to the experiments done by the RG crew - they were the ones in charge back then, they were the ones pulling the strings and doing horrible things to people...so now, pray tell, how does it feel to be tormented in return?

as we later come to find out, it's a line that's probably mostly meant for zexion.............but that doesn't mean it doesn't apply to anyone else ;)c

17. What was the hardest scene to write?

any! of! the! combat! scenes!!!!!!!!! the fight with zexion in particular, i remember just. staring at my screen like "how on earth do i go about this?!" dsklfjskldjf straight up-and-down action scenes have always been difficult for me, i find it hard to write that sort of thing without it reading like "then he punched him. it hurt. a lot. it hurt, like, a lot. so he punched him back." any time one of the basement boys found themselves facing off a monster (or one another, heheheheheheheee), there was definitely a very, very exasperated and self-conscious struggle involved on my part.

20. What is something you wish more people noticed about this fic?

hmmmmmmmm...well, since it IS a silent hill crossover, i for sure poured the symbolism on thick, let me tell you sldkfjksd oooh i wish i could be more specific than that, but i wrote this puppy several computers ago, so i'm sure my original drafts and outlines are lost to time 😔 the monster designs specifically i remember spending sooo much time on, trying to line up as many sneaky little details as i could to make them line up with my hcs of the guards, ansem, and just zexion/ienzo's inner struggles in general. the use of a doppelganger as an antagonist, too, was SUPER pointed but i feel sort of fell by the wayside - i was trying to be so smooth like "get it? get it, because you...you can't...you can't trust...the schemer......you...do you get it??????"

but again, like i said with an earlier fic, the fact people read this story at all meant - and continues to mean!!! - the absolute WORLD, so regardless of what my intentions were when i was writing it, i'm just touched and flattered and honored that others got something out of it! <3

25. Is there anything you would change now about this fic? Why or why not?

i'm sure i could change......most things. about this fic. now. hahahaha, but not because i hate it or anything!!! BoR is an interesting study, imo, because it really sort of...marked the beginning of the end of my time writing kh stuff, and the beginning of me REALLY focusing on horror more generally. a lot of the spooky stuff i was experimenting with in there feels pretty...idk unrefined to me now??? if that makes sense???

i think it comes down to the fact i've just kind of evolved as a writer over the years, and that the way i approach psychological horror now is very different to then, when i was taking my first tentative steps into the genre. but you'll notice i said i COULD change things - not that i WOULD. BoR was and is, like i said, suuuuuuuuuch an important piece in my heart, and even if i do feel those little 'omg i can't believe this was how i used to write' cringes when rereading some sections of it, i wouldn't change any of it for the world!

Not super great art again cause I'm really tired but I wanted to answer this --

I have a headcanon that absolutely Nobody was surprised, because RG kind of operates in this system

where Kings have a funny habit of marrying and making their 'shield' their consort/queen. So AtW's parents were a King who married a kickass battle-wife, Ansem fell for his science partner/massive shield man and Ienzo just accidentally followed tradition, despite being adopted and not blood to Ansem's line.

I also headcanon that there was Zero fanfare about any of it, because they're incredibly private people. Aeleus is still second-guessing his position (not the romance aspect, there is zero question there is love there, but he doesn't believe he deserves this high title (and honestly is still kind of confused why he was allowed to be a royal guard again after Everything) and is always trying to stay out of the limelight and only be seen in his military-position, rather than court) and while Ienzo enjoys authority and would snap the Gardens in half again if someone told him Aeleus has no place at his side, he super understands. I mean, the entire castle knows, the people below in the city know, but they don't really speak about it. It's just sort a thing. They've always been a pair, so when Ansem finally made the announcement so people would stop pestering about 'heirs', they had a collective "oh that checks out" and accepted the next king is probably another adopted child like Ienzo himself (which was a whole different Fight to go through-- though when your King has the negative press Ansem did thanks to everything, it's a lot easier to accept the orphan bastard is your upcoming king.)

The proposal itself was incredibly calm, too. Just a conversation in the morning while they slowly got ready. "That counsel Ansem hired on is bothering me again about future prospects, like I have any interests in heirs. Like I have time for that. Really it would be easier if I could just say we've eloped, surely marriage would get them off my back-- Aeleus? You're being awfully silent." "-- Would you want that?" "What? Marry you? ... I'll be honest, I had thought about it but never too deeply. Saying it out loud, mm," "If you want that, I-- can accept it." "O-oh. Well." A grin, and he's finishing up tying his scarf, flatting down his labcoat a few too many times to come off as totally unaffected. "I guess that solves that, doesn't it? We'll have to tell Ansem, of course." "Of course." "-- Aeleus you're red."

i do! mostly i just headcanon him a lot as the equivalent of being norwegian in the khverse and dump a lot of my own cultural feelings and folklore on him

he's literally a troll, hence the tail i draw him with, i worry its Too Odd but its a headcanon that makes me v happy and at least two friends have told me they just straight up forgot that the tail Wasnt canon b/c how consistently i do it wkjdfsdkf

he's aromantic nonbinary trans dude who is exclusively attracted to men and he did his own top surgery b.c he's fucking raw like that

he uses himself as a test subject A Lot, to a dangerous and reckless extenct, not really out of mercy for any other test subjects he could have but really more out of a sense of pride and pragmatism. he knows he can do it Correctly, so it saves him from wasting time

he's very proper in how he speaks but it does happen not infrequently that he'll use "childish" turns of phrase if hes preoccupied with something else or if he's relaxed around present company- a lot of the Very Proper mannerisms are masking

holy christ on a cracker this man is autistic

he stims with the flappy oversized sleeves : ) they are his favourite

overheats hilariously easily, and he naturally makes any area around him a lot colder just kinda with his presence- he already had a knack for ice magic before his heart was torn out, and i hc that part of what helps a nobody stabilize into anything resembling a still living creature is they essentially fuse with their own magic

he both wields and kind of *is* ice magic

(i have stupidly overthought headcanons about the nature of how Heart vs Soul works in kh as well as Even/Vexen's specific knowledge field in this matter)

he's a lot better with children than most people expect and this is at least 50% b/c he's just kind of paternal in his overall disposition and 50% b/c its a lot easier to perform horrible heart stealing experiments on children when they trust you, hes not a good person

he would, if you asked him, admit that he probably would consider himself xion and repliku's Dad, but he wouldnt say the same thing about ienzo/zexion- its not that he doesnt love him as a parent but rather that he has a strange aversion to thinking of himself as a Parent towards ienzo/zexion and will instead refer to himself as his guardian and ienzo/zexion as his ward

if you asked ienzo about it, he'd probably tell you that Even is his Even, he's not a Dad he's an Even, etc

theyre neurotic

he's a biologist and he genuinely loves animals a lot and is much better at handling them than ppl would think (once upon a time in radiant garden, Even had a very spoiled chocobo)

i really cannot stand "vexen doesnt Get art" headcanons b/c the general "oooh science and art incompatible" thing drives me Insane

he likes art a lot very much ty and if you give him free time that he's not allowed to spend in the lab he'll probably spend it sketching things

Vexen comforting an S/O who has nightmares HCs

I firmly believe the Organisation have their fair share of nightmares. No hearts...don't be ridiculous, these lot have been through so much and Vexen's story pulls at my heartstrings especially.

He's, sadly, familiar with nightmares, particularly to do with his failed efforts to protect Ienzo. So I cannot see him as the kind of person to dismiss nightmares as ridiculous or dramatic.

Vexen's an observant man. He's obviously not watching you sleep and just happened to be shuffled awake by your shifting, or by your quiet sniffles in the nightmare was enough to elicit such a reaction from your unconscious form. Hating to see you suffer and knowing its bad for your health to sleep through such an experience, Vexen will gently wake you, with actions or words, whichever he knows you prefer.

While Vexen's not the best at straight-forward comfort, he's happy enough to stay up and talk to you about the content and reasoning behind your nightmares if you're up for it. No, he's not spiritual, but he is a man of science - dreams and nightmares have links to one's personal history, so he can't deny that he's curious.

Talking about your nightmares is a very grounding experience with Vexen. He can help you find out exactly what about a specific memory makes you feel scared or angry or hopeless, and can give you some pointers on how to think differently about the whole experience if it's possible.

If the content of the nightmare is something you'd rather not talk about, you've left Vexen with the only option of physical comfort which he definitely struggles with. Still, he can put aside his own awkwardness in favour of cheering you back up. If you think it will be easier to have a calm sleep wrapped in his arms that breathe security and reality, he's completely fine with that. Sure, he'll be a bit stiff at the beginning since he's not used to touch barring old memories of Ienzo, but, when you fall back asleep, Vexen calms down and, eventually, also falls asleep.

Sometimes you might not want to go back to sleep, either out of restlessness or fear, and Vexen is completely fine with staying awake with you. I'm not convinced Nobodies need rest, but, even still, Vexen is used to staying up late because he gets so invested in his experiments. So, naturally, he's okay with distracting you from your nightmare by pulling out any work he needs to do or talking your ear off about some new tests he's been conducting.

🌈 - What were their first impressions of each other? 

Iris' first impression of Ienzo was nearly love at first sight. To be fair, Iris had not interacted with many guys in her life but she was very taken with Ienzo, especially his eyes. But her interest really didn't take off until she realized that he was an intellectual like herself and didn't think she was "too smart". Finally, someone who wouldn't mock me like my classmates, she thought. Perhaps this could be love.

Ienzo's first impression of Iris was that she had a very sweet personality very similar to Kalai's before the fall of Radiant Garden. He's ashamed to admit it now, but a lot of what drew him to Iris was her similarities to Kalai before Xehanort came along and fucked their lives up. In a way, his initial interest in her is his eternal sunshine of the spotless mind way of coping with his heartbreak where Kalai is concerned because, by the time they first meet, it's still fresh and painful.

In time though, Ienzo begins to see the facets of Iris that are hers alone and have nothing to do with her sister. And he loves what he sees.

hc; kh3 updates 1

First off, the Easiest to update, going to put this under a cut:

They've all nicknamed their groups to make it easier-- Island Squad (Riku and Kairi), Garden Squad (Lea, Isa, Namine, Roxas, Xion, and occasionally Ienzo) and Castle Squad (Terra, Aqua, and Ven).

While they're spending much of their time resting and enjoying being home, they all go out and visit each other, and go to Land of Departure to train, or go to hang out on the play island, or spend time in Twilight Town or Radiant Garden. There's no more real Heartless threat, but they have to be ready!

Lea:

Lea, after everything was over, went straight home to his father. And cried for a good hour. He brought Roxas and Xion to meet him, too, and then went to sit and wait for Isa where he woke up. (He got in Ienzo and Even’s way a little, but they let him.)

Isa returned, and Lea proceeded to cling to him and cry for another hour.

He brought Isa home to Lea’s dad and Isa’s mom, and then he arranged a sit-down between him and Roxas and Xion to talk --- he’d explained everything to the two kids while they were recovering and before they went to join Sora to deal with Kingdom Hearts --- and they worked things out before the beach party.

He’s home now, in RG, and he and Isa are discussing what to do next about their missing friend, but in the meantime, they’re just relaxing and enjoying being home. Roxas is staying in his guest room.

Kairi

She got to spend time with Sora, knowing --- he explained what he’d done after he rescued her again --- that it wouldn’t last, but she promised him she’d come looking for him. After all, they shared paopu. She’ll find him, no matter where he is.

She’s upset that he vanished, but...she knows he’ll be okay. She has faith.

In the meantime, she and Riku are back on the islands, and visiting her friends a lot, and hanging out with Namine, who decided to stay in the Garden to learn to be her own person apart from Kairi.

Ienzo

Spent half the game about ready to actively murder Even, but that changed almost immediately when Even sent him help and Ansem. He cried in private later, once things were resolved, and punched Even and then hugged him once he got back to help them with Namine.

He’s still struggling to deal with emotions and coping with them, after so long without, but he has his family, and that’s enough for now. He’s home, and they’re all home, and they have time to recover and rebuild.

He’s helping the Restoration Committee rebuild, helping his fathers with the RG OSS, and most importantly helping Xion and Namine adjust and learning how to have friends closer to his age in turn. He's being invited along on inter-squad outings.

Xion

Cried for hours on and off just because she was so happy to be alive. Wouldn't let go of Roxas and Lea (just Roxas while Lea was handling his own business) and was just so happy and content.

Had a nice long talk with Lea and Roxas and Isa and worked most things out; she's still a little awkward around Isa, but she's willing to work on it. He's clearly super incredibly important to Lea, and she does understand now why he was so mean. So she wants to get along with him.

She's staying in Radiant Garden, living in the castle with Ansem, the apprentices, and Namine. She's sharing a room with Namine, and it's fun. She's enjoying being a person, and loves hanging out with her group and the others and it's great.

Terra

Sat and cried for a while and refused to go anywhere without Aqua and Ven for days. Still having trouble adjusting to having his own body back in one place, but he's doing better.

Was finally able to get closure with Eraqus, so he and Aqua are working on rebuilding the Land of Departure, and helping train Ven and the new kids.

He was named Master by Yen Sid after it was all over and he cried. He's enjoying visiting the other worlds his new friends belong to, and getting to know them all now that he can. He sat down with Riku, too, for a long talk.
