Genuinely spending 2 hours a day just prepping the fiber, RIP

To be fair at least a third of that time is pushing the executive function button so I can start the next nest. They're unfortunately one of those activities that has enough steps that each one feels like it's own separate thing, so I have to Start Task each damn time. So there's a 5-10 minute cooldown between them.

Got 9 nests, I think (on top), middle is some fleece that's already had a lot of locks picked out so it's kind of jumbled, bottom is combing waste.

#That's how all fiber prep is for me... I bet if I was actually medicated it'd go faster #but what can you do. #anyway ive done similar things. 2021 tdf i was carding rolags as i went #but those are so much faster !!! like 2 minutes at most and usually closer to 30 seconds for a rolag that takes #around the same amount of time to spin as a nest of top #meanwhile the nests are 10 minutes each IF i have already picked the locks. which ive started doing bc it feels a little faster #and earlier this year i was spending an hour to an hour and a half before work every day combing southdown babydoll for sock yarn #but i was also spinning that up on supported spindles (i spin 3x slower on those than on my wheel) and over the course #of like a 10+ hour shift #so it felt a lot more reasonable #im combing more of this shetland per day than i was the southdown for sure #but yeah it spins up so much faster that its like. whole morning: combing #tiny but nice part of afternoon: actually spinning the top #idk a ton about how ancient people prepared their wool... definitely need to find some info bc it would be fascinating to know #but carding cloth is a pretty recent development in the grand scale of how long humans have kept sheep #so.... yeah i can imagine youd need like 4 kids combing the wool just to keep up with one experienced spinner #or else that one spinner is spending all damn morning prepping wool #its not a great nighttime activity bc if you cant see real well then your prep really suffers #easier to spin in the near dark than prep in the near dark by a long shot #idk ! cool to think about #im rly intruiged by sally pointers video on that blackthorn hand hackle thing (i cant remember the name RIP) #feels like it could comb wool too ? or at least you could try and then make something better when that failed #but a comb of some kind is just gonna be the easiest thing to make if nothing else ... #palm comb #tour de fleece #tour de fleece 2023 #wool prep

yeah!!!!! i'm super new to it but it's SO fun!! it's a really neat like, hands-on hobby-- pretty much everything like knitting or sewing or embroidery or what have you has like, a big you-should-really-pay-attention-to-this component, right? you need to keep your eye on yr pattern or yr stitches or smth. spinning (at least, what i've been doing-- just plain single ply + using my ma's ashford double drive spinning wheel) is like... once you get the hang of it it's almost subconscious. there's barely any thinking component to it, other than like, adjusting the tension occasionally, making sure yr spinning evenly, etc. it almost kind of reminds me of driving on a highway? you have to keep focused or you'll fuck up, but after a while it's really just. mostly muscle memory. also it's SO fucking satisfying it's just so fun oh my god. really rewarding to see you have a whole spindle of yarn you made. also it's like, quicker & therefore more instant gratification than knitting or something!! theres also probably just an adhdautism aspect of "this is just a simple repetitive rhythmic motion you keep going" that's... very alluring sdkfdgkf.

This is Revavroom. It's a Steel/Poison type Pokemon, based on a car engine. An old scrap car engine is enspirited and constructs a body resembling that of an automobile. Its highest stat is (physical) Attack, with a modest base of 119. Its natural learnset includes a lot of Poison, Steel and Normal-type moves. Let's take a look at its available TM moves.

Here is a partial selection of Revavroom's TM moves. Cool, makes sense... wait, Rain Dance? How does that fit? That's the only Water-type move it learns, and its only other setup-y moves are Toxic Spikes and Sunny Day. Revavroom doesn't have anything that could make use of rainy weather. Looking at Revavroom's set, it makes me think... something's missing! An incredibly specific and somewhat thinly distributed move that would be right at home in the learnset of a physical attacker AND a car. ...

There's a distinct lack of Revavroom here. In fact, there's a distinct lack of most horse pokemon, as well. My original thought when I realised that Revavroom doesn't learn High Horsepower was "huh, maybe it's just the signature move for Mudsdale and didn't get distributed", but I was wrong. So now I'm wondering... who looked at Revavroom's set and went 'yeah, the car can summon rain but it can't summon its innate horsepower to ram a foe'

#pim speaking #pokemon #revavroom #long post #every day i discover a new thing about revavroom that simultaneously cucks it over competitively AND makes no sense lorewise #it levitates in its animations despite having wheels. most pokemon have 3 abilities but this thing has 2 which means it would be so easy to #just give it levitate anyway #on the topic of its abilities it learns perhaps the two most useless things they couldve given it #overcoat makes it immune to powder moves and such. except its typing already gives it an immunity to two of the most widely utilised ones #filter is an alright ability but they gave it to a pokemon with only 2 weaknesses one of which is 4x to ground #all that achieves is making you die to the ever popular earthquake three times over instead of four times over #if it was up to me i would give this thing levitate and intimidate with maybe poison point as a hidden ability #levitate makes sense with the animations and intimidate might mean it gets a free shift gear in to counteract speed loss from spin out

#marquilla #me at 4am: lmao idk why they bothered salting the parking lot the storm is passing us anyway #me at 8am nearly falling on my ass in the snow in the parking lot: nvm #hot take but i think that having the traction control system on when the roads are slick isnt a good thing bc it makes me nearly spin out #every time. and i tested it too. i tried driving halfway with it on and halfway off and i could turn corners and more importantly STOP safer #than when i didnt turn tcs off. #i know it works by slowing and stabilizing the tire losing traction but like it feels like that works against you if youre turning bc then #your car is swinging essentially like lets say it's only on the right wheels. tcs comes on and you stop now youre car is turning clockwise #from the momentum of the non traction affected tires #and if it's all the wheels then you skid forward #im sure it has helped people and im sure it probably saved lives but motherfucker i nearly took out four mailboxes on a main road #bc i turned AFTER A COMPLETE STOP MIND YOU so it wasnt my momentum of the car being in motion and taking too fast a turn #idk i just find that when i see that little fucker come on that i have about a 40% chance of it killing me #anyway it snowed and we got like 4in lol
