I’ve started watching a swsh gameplay today. (Spoiler alert)

So, as most of you must know, I haven’t got money for a switch and, therefore, won’t be able to play swsh anytime soon. So instead, me and my siblings are watching a full game walkthrough! I’m gonna talk a bit about my first impressions! ^^

OK, so. First thing. I LOVE the looks of the game. I’ve been told by many people that the game looked weird and ugly and that the graphics were bad, but really... To me, that’s nonsense. I think so far everything looks very pretty and the ambiance is just lovely! I love the Pokémon walking around in overworld and I love the scenaries, the houses (inside and outside), everything looks so cute and pretty! I also loved the lakes and rivers! It’s really very pretty!

Secondly, I’m absolutely amazed at how much easier most things were made in this game in terms of practicality. Everything you need is handed to you very early in game, you can find several items on the floor and you start off with plenty of money, being able to buy more advanced items such as revives right from the start! I love this!

The box link mechanic, OH. MY. ARCEUS. What an amazing thing, to be able to access your box anytime like that! This is something I’ve been asking from Pokémon since forever and I’m very glad it’s a thing now. Also, I love that you can choose whether you want to switch your newly caught Pokémon for one in your party instead of sending it to your box (although my sister said it had already been done like this in Sun and Moon).

I LOVE that you can just select your Pokéballs quickly with one button in the middle of a battle instead of having to open your bag and look for it and everything, it’s a small difference, but it’s cool. I also like how you can interact with every Pokémon in the grass and even go for the one you want. I think maybe this had already been introduced in Let’s Go, but I don’t know because I haven’t played it or watched any game play of it.

Rotoms. Rotoms everywhere!!! How lovely! If there’s one thing I can’t get over, it’s Rotom’s cry. I love its little voice and I love its littel face!!! So seeing all those Rotom Phones and the Rotomi, and your Rotom Phone showing up every time you complete a Pokédex entry... YES! Lovely! A+++!!! Cyrus approves! I love it! ^^

About the characters:

I’m very surprised about Hop! I didn’t expect him to be that energetic. He is very similar to Barry, which is nice, since Barry is one of my favorite kids from Pokémon!

About Leon. OH. MY. ARCEUS. I LOVE HIM. He is so dumb! He is so stupid! I love that guy! He is so nice and pure too, and he is so ridiculous with that embarrassing pose he does with his Charizard... But it’s in such a pure and lovely way, I really like him. I like that he’s dumb and has no sense of direction and has such a pure and lovely heart. I mean, the guy doesn’t even know you but gives you a Pokémon anyway because you’re friends with his bro, how sweet is that? I love him, really.

About Magnolia. What a lovely lady! She’s so sweet! I just think they could have used her a bit more in the beginning of the game. Still, I haven’t seen much yet, so I don’t know what they’ll do with her in the future. So far, I really like her. I thought she’d be more grumpy, but she seems very lovely.

About Sonia. She’s so cute! I haven’t got much of her personality so far, though. She seems really nice and I like how her relationship with her grandma has been portrayed so far. Then again, I have seen just the very beginning of the game, so I can’t judge it yet.

About Chairman Rose: All I’ve seen from him so far was his introduction to the Pokémon World, in which he was acting just like a host in a big event, so I can’t say anything about him yet. I’d say he wasn’t being exactly himself in that situation, so I’ll have to wait for the next time I see him.

Random characters: Old man I’m presumin is Leon and Hop’s grandad sitting in his house - A++. Seriously, I love that there’s just that old guy sitting casually in there, just because he’s part of the family and old people exist. So nice. I loved it! Sceince Fat Man: Rally happy to know the Science Fat Man is still a tradition! Loved him! Random trainers: The lass is basically Serena haha but that’s fine, and the youngster look very cute too.

About the story so far, I didn’t like much how the wishing stars were introduced. They LITERALLY fell from the sky, so conveniently... It’s way too much of a Deus Ex Machina to me and I didn’t like it. But that was just a small detail. I love how you are neighbor with the Champion and how close to you he is from the beginning, it makes all the League thing less intimidating, but they still manage to make it look like something very serious in the context of the game. I haven’t seen anything from the plot yet, there hasn’t been any conflicts or anything, so I can’t judge it yet. But I really liked the Legendary Pokémon encounter in the woods and how the game lets you just try to straight up kick Zacian in the face as if it wasn’t a god or anything. I like it. You fail miserably, of course, but it’s cool.

About Dynamax mechanic: As I expected would happen, I hated it. It’s literally the only thing so far that I really disliked. I think the whole mechanic is pretty much pointless and it looks just very weird and out of place in the game... I mean, the sixe of the dynamax Pokémon is absolutely unnecessary and the way the whole environment around the battle changes is just terrifying and depressing to me. At one moment you’re in a nice and beautiful park and then, suddely, everything is dark magenta and black, with a KingKong-sized Minchino crushing the bones of three tiny Pokémon, while your Starter grows to the size of Godzilla and growls loudly with a weirdly low voice before trying to beat the heck out of that giant monster, most probably causing massive destruction to everything around them... I don’t know. It’s just plain weird. It looks weird, it feels weird, and it’s not necessary. I didn’t like it at all. And everything is so over. The attack animations are so explosive and bright and long, there’s really no need to all that in my opinion... So to me, yeah.... Dynamax is a big nope.

My last comment is about the camera and the rendering. It’s a little bit weird how some things just pop into and out of existance depending on how close you are to them, but I wouldn’t call it a downside. It just looks a bit sudden sometimes. I guess it might have been done in a less weird way, maybe if there was a kind of fade in or something... But I’m not sure, it might look even worse. So yeah, it looks a bit odd, but I totally get that they can’t just render all the objects in the distance, it would be unnecessary. The camera sometimes goes to some weird angles and the character sometimes disappears if the camera gets to close to them. (Happened once in the gameplay so far). I would have rathered if they would change the cam position instead of making it enter the playable character’s head making the whole character pop out of existance. But this is just a very subtle and unnimportant detail. I’d say the camera is still better than Pokémon X/Y’s cam, so yeah, that’s great. I love that we can see everything a bit closer, because in Oras the camera is always very far from your character (like in most Pokémon games).

To wrap it up, I’m enjoying this game a lot and I really wish I could actually play it! I’m quickly falling in love with Galar, and I love the map, it looks so cute! I’d give this game... 7.8 out of 10, too much water. (lol so funny right? fresh memes guys). But seriously, so far this is 9/10 to me. I’m excited about watching the rest of the gameplay! ♥

Oh, one last thing. I can’t stand Scorbunny’s idle animation. That guy just doesn’t stop jumping!!!! AAAAGH. (joking, it’s fine, but it’s a bit annoying sometimes).

Why did (do?) the Magivians film you with rage?

Racism, homophobia and anti-survivors trifecta. They had an epic case of Bury Your Gays back in S1 where like, their gay character had to kill his new love interest in self-defense after that guy was possessed by the bad guy, and then when he was understandably upset afterwards because they’d made a point to hype this guy up as the first guy he’d ever had real feelings for, his friends were like boohoo get over it, which was like…swell, lol. Oh and then that same character ended up forced into a marriage with a woman for the sake of some fantasy kingdom he didn’t even give a shit about and was all of his friends’ quest way more than it was his, and only then did they decide to have him say a line about how he was mostly gay but was occasionally into women so bi a little bit even though he’d always ID’d as gay before then so it felt like a patch job to cover up the fact that they only belatedly realized oh hey forcing our gay lead into a hetero marriage he doesn’t want to be in is maybe Not A Good Look.

Oh and I do remember catching a bit of a S2 episode where like, the gay character was throwing an orgy in the palace to make himself feel better for being stuck in fantasy land ruling over a fantasy kingdom he gave no fucks about and was bored and lonely in….only to get chewed out by his wife slash queen (a native inhabitant of fantasy kingdom) about how rapey and coercive that was and an abuse of his power as king because his subjects didn’t feel like they had the option of opting out. Which to be perfectly clear, is an absolutely valid point to make….BUT the fact remains that like, they chose to write in that angle, and they chose to make their gay character the one to learn that Important Lesson About Consent and Power Dynamics….but oh yeah, they ALSO chose to write this particular gay character as forced into oh yeah, a hetero marriage he did not ask for and clearly did not want, for the sake of mystic prophecy bullshit resulting from someone ELSE’S personal quest. And that was just….so…oblivious to me? Its like….ummm….could you not have the Straights educate The Pervy Deviant Gay on Consent Issues WHILST FORCING HIM INTO A HETERO MARRIAGE WITH ONLY HIS EXTREMELY RELUCTANT AND DUBIOUS CONSENT AT BEST??? Hellooooooooooooooo??

Then the racism side of the Awful triangle was like, their only two PoC in the first season (other than the blind black headmaster who was all kinds of Tropey ‘Cryptic and Thus Untrustworthy’ from the way the narrative was framed which, no, stop)….the only other two PoC in the first season and main cast were the girl who just so happened to be set up by the plot as the one revealed to be the ‘traitor’ or whatever who was there at the school under false pretenses and just stealing magic for other hedge witches. Like yes, she was under duress because they were threatening her mom I think? But I mean it was still like super predictable having her be the character that was put in that position and forced to fill that role. And then Penny, the man of color in the main cast, like, again I only watched the first season sporadically because I was like Nope every other episode and just skimmed in the hopes it would get better cuz everyone I knew kept raving about it, but I specifically remember one scene where like Penny was singled out by one of his teachers and told how he was super powerful like way more than any of his peers because he had like wild magic or something…BUT then the teacher went on to basically tell him this was more of a curse than a gift because his own power would eventually burn him out and destroy him or something like that. It was definitely framed as an inevitability, like, just his fate, a natural consequence to being the kind of magician he was innately…super powerful but with a shortened lifespan essentially as a trade off, with no way around that.

And he was something like a Traveler, able to take himself and his friends between worlds? Which was great and super necessary for the plot but also a big part of what made his magic so destructive for him himself in the long run, so essentially the man of color got set up to be a glorified taxi cab for his white friends aka the LITERAL plot vehicle, with it announced to him very early on in the show that like ‘dont be too happy about how mad powerful you are, cuz its basically just gonna kill you way before all your friends end up biting it, sucks to be you kinda’. Again, this was early on in the show so I don’t know if that changed or they added more context to that later, but just the fact that his character in particular, like Kady’s, just so HAPPENED to be the one singled out for that particular plot niche and accompanying fate, like….that was fucking bogus from the jump.

Oh and also there was that really cool (in that not all sort of way) and totally not at all predictable (in that it totally was sorta way) antiblackness that reared its ugly head the second S2 introduced the oft-mentioned ‘barbarian kingdom’ that bordered Fantasy Land…..because hey guess whether or not the first appearance of more than one black person at a time on the show was when a whole bunch of black people showed up in S2 as oh yeah, you guessed it….the natives of the neighboring BARBARIAN Kingdom. Classy, Magicians. Way classy.

And then the anti-survivors angle of the Triangle of Suck, like, the show fucking HATES ‘bad survivors.’ You know, survivors who don’t embrace forgiveness and tra-la-la their way into the sunset and recovery while weaving daisy chains and leaving all their anger and thoughts of vengeance and retribution behind them in the past? Like, god forbid a survivor fucking HATE the person who hurt them and want to make them pay, which was essentially Julia’s S2 arc I believe? And boy was she fucking punished for that. Shit just got worse and worse for her, and it only got better when she decided to try the Healing Power of Forgiveness! Unlike one of her fellow survivors, raped by the same bastard who hurt her, who was also on the same Vengeance Quest as her, except she got murdered extremely graphically and painfully onscreen in like…narratively framed as a See Kids This Is Why Revenge Is Bad And You Should Not kinda way, that Julia was pretty clearly meant to learn from and Make Different Choices.

Oh and let’s not forget that the initial antagonist of the series, the dreaded Beast who killed tons of people and was the one who possessed the gay guy that the other gay guy had to kill right after their makeout session in self defense cuz lol why would that be traumatic…yeah, that Beast…..let’s not forget that he was another Bad Survivor, a guy who was molested by one of the series’ Significant Backstory People years and years ago when he was just a kid. And thus he was pretty blatantly a case of Look How Stewing In Your Hate For What Happened To You Instead of Forgetting All Your Worries and Your Strife Will ABSOLUTELY Turn You Into A Literal Monster Who Murders People and Is Evil and Bad And Must Be Slain For the Good of Alllllll the Land.

And there was actually a lot more than just that because Survivors was a definite Thing on the show, with lots of them showing up and established as being survivors in various ways and almost all of them like….being the focus of the series like….perpetual hard on for torture and torturous death scenes for various satellite characters. Like don’t get me wrong, the series pretty much kills people left and right, its just it weirdly just so happens that the first people standing in line to either the left or the right tended to be PoC, women, survivors, gay/bi characters or characters who lucked out and got to be all of the above for the handful of scenes before they met their untimely ‘Wouldn’t Wish It On My Worst Enemy Let Alone On My Or Any Friend of Mine’s Only Representation On This Show’ demise.

Anyway, yeah I hate that show and it dinged all my NOPE alarms hard from day one and I kept checking back in on it over the first season and then a little bit off and on after that in the hopes it had gotten better because I kept fucking hearing all over twitter and tumblr how amazing it was and progressive it was and I’d watch the latest episode, jump up, yank my hair out and screech like a gibbon monkey while speaking in tongues and asking the universe to help explain to me what the fuck was I missing here, where was all this lauded Progressivism I was supposed to be taking away from all the miserable, tortured and murdered - and also abused, raped and exploited - PoC and occasional white gays or women tossed in to round out the variety pack??!?! Just did not see it, at all, Error 404 Not Found, Did Not Compute, and then I’d hop back on tumblr and see people raving about the same stuff that just whipped me into a frothing rage and I’d be like I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE WHAT IS GOING ON ARE WE USING THE SAME WORDS OR DO I NOT KNOW WHAT THE WORDS MEAN CORRECTLY OR….

Ugh. Yeah. So like I said….nooooot a fan. And also, fans of the show plz don’t @ me if I got things mixed up there or inaccurately remembered a scene I referenced, I’m not claiming to have perfect recall of a show that was actively pissing me off while I watched it and thus I was kinda TRYING not to pay full attention to. I just know that I definitely got a full helping of racism, homophobia and anti-survivor bullshit in SOME form or another from each and every episode I did watch. I freely admit that like, I’m not necessarily describing or denoting the actual things that pissed me off or registered that way to me, like.. for sure accurately here….again, I haven’t watched the show at all in a couple years and I’m not trying to be like This Is Definitely What Happened In This Scene and This Scene. Its more just one of those things where like, I definitely remember these are reasons I hated the show and I’ve put a lot of effort into NOT thinking about it or remembering it, so this is just how that jumbled mess all came out right now while trying to sort through it all and remember specific instances of the Triangle of Suck that made me rage so hard. There’s a reason I’ve never gone around actively engaging in Magicians Discourse or encouraging people not to watch it, lol, I don’t claim to be an expert on it or to have taken extensive notes of my Rage Reasons at the time of watching. Just that like….they were definitely there, and this was the general vicinity of the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

As I’ve laid in bed, drifting in and out of consciousness, I kind of wanted to expand on the whole manipulation thing I talked about w/ regards to Lucifer. Because I talked about how I’m able to get people to break rules for me, etc. all the time.

When I talk about manipulation as a tactic to get people to do things for you, it’s not always a bad thing. Generally speaking, it is, but manipulation has it’s place and purpose and I’m grateful that my grandmother was literally like a Lucifer-esque beast of manipulation because I learned from a very young age how to correctly string a scheme if need be, without making her (sometimes overconfident) mistakes.

This is not to say I’m a bad person. I don’t go out into the world seeking to manipulate people. But I apply to same logic to my obsession with true crime, and how I profile from that. I know what to expect and navigate around it. That’s why, outside of tumblr, I’m actually involved in a lot of criminal and pattern profiling. I naturally can pathologize people’s behaviour and compartmentalize it and work accordingly.

In my head, I’m an amazing researcher and tactician. If you listen to me talk, though, you’d never get that. I’m kind and polite and look like I’m bloody fourteen years old, but I stumble over my words and struggle immensely talking to people. I can’t socialize well. So I use humor and my awkward autistic behaviour as a way to naturally mask my inability to do that well.

Speaking in Supernatural terns, when people joke about Castiel’s lack of regard for personal spaces or “not understanding that reference,” in a lot of ways that’s a reflection of my personality. I just also come with a lot of Sam’s hyperempathy, which in particular shines through as a very defining character trait. I am empathetic. I care. A lot. And very deeply.

When I talk about how manipulation is not always a means for negativity, this is probably obvious. You lobby for causes you believe in, and in a sense that’s a form of manipulation. It’s a swaying popular support for your cause from a position diametrically opposed or, worse, apathetic at best. But there are other cases that I’m talking about.

I have been arrested, once or twice. Ironically for instances where I am actually not breaking the law at that particularly instance (I break the law a lot, if we’re honest.) As someone who, again, looks like a fifteen year old girl in Disney dresses, I am able to use my humor and askance tendencies to deflect. There’s mental illness on my records. People assume I’m just a crazy girl having a crazy moment. I roll with it and laugh and talk to people and endear myself to them and complain that the cuffs hurt.

I look like a fifteen year old girl. They take them off. If that’s not a protocol violation, I don’t know what is. There’s further merit in assuming my privilege and this being an “accident” here based on my skin color, but that’s a conversation for another day. I get off with nothing on my record either way.

Let’s further talk about my break-in. I didn’t really walk away unscathed from that considering the level of absolute hell trauma I developed (though the hugs from the SPN cast were A+), but that was another case of manipulation being used in positive sense.

I want to make something very clear about that instance: I didn’t beg for my life in any instance of that encounter. There’s a lot of things I did do, including bite off a finger (roflmao I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE I DID THAT LIKE WTF ME), repeatedly threw a chair into the guy, etc. But even after that motherfucker decked me upside the head with a solid steel lamp and I was on the floor and he was trying to strangle me to death, I didn’t beg.

Do you know what I did?

I remembered that it becomes harder for someone to kill you if they think of you as a person. If they like you. So my dazed, half-dead self flew into survival mode and laughed and joked and took this guy’s side. He ended up letting me live because he liked me. Because I was like “nah man, I’ll come outside and vouch for you,” like I actually would fucking do that and not double-cross this motherfucker the instance my eyes set on the police. And mind you, he was arrested at gunpoint five minutes later in my neighbor’s yard while I was hacking up blood and stumbling through my house trying to locate my cats, but being like SO YOU KNOW IF THINGS WERE DIFFERENT I WOULD TOTALLY PREFER TO NOT BE ON THE GROUND WITH YOU TRYING TO KILL ME FUNNY I KNOW RIGHT???? somehow ended up working.

which yeah i got punched for being sassy, but --

i kind of deserved it because what fucking psychopathic aspie am i being like LOL SO HOW’S THAT KILLIN GOING YOU BORED YET CAN I MAKE A SUGGESTION ABOUT STOPPING while someone is trying to actively kill you??

Do you ever hear someone say ‘you never know what sort of person you’re going to be until you’re in that situation?’ Well, I can tell you with 100% certainty that if I’m going to be murdered, I will apparently just sarcastically manipulate my way through it with deadpan snark. I don’t know if I should be amused or disappointed.

And I’m not sure if any of this makes any sense. But I was left thinking about the post I made about how LOL YEAH I KNOW HOW THAT SORT OF MANIPULATING PEOPLE GOES and it’s not that Lucifer and I have similar personalities, because inherently we don’t. We just tend to handle things in a similar manner, and we disarm people with that same level of humor and awkward charm?

Lucifer uses it to very dangerous ends and I kind of am much more casually aware of it’s existence due to the fact that I have this very weird, natural sort of charisma that makes me very naturally likable to most people. Hell, even the one girl at work that hated me eventually budded up to me after I was literally invaded her personal space on purpose for a whole day and was like I AM A SOCIALLY AWKWARD PEACOCK PAY ATTENTION TO ME GOD DAMN IT I AM TIRED OF THINGS BEING WEIRD OKAY BE FRIENDS WITH ME HELLO HELLO YES HELLO KASSIE HEY KASSIE KASSIE I’M HERE KAAASSSSIE KASSIE LOOK I HAVE YOUR WATER BOTTLE YOU CAN’T HAVE IT BACK UNTIL YOU LAUGH AT MY JOKES JFC YOU MISERABLE SACK OF CRAP

also weirdly i tend to attract all the bible thumpers at work the easiest, and i’m sincerely not sure how. especially with questions like “felicia, who would attend your funeral if you died tomorrow.”

and now i’m going to go back to bed and nap I AM SO TIRED. >:(
