the fact that we need 8 hours of sleep is ridiculous we should only need 4 and the other 4 should be used to be cozy in your bed and rub your legs together like a cricket and listen to music and think about your little scenarios

Disabled characters I really want to see:
people with mutism or diffuclties with speaking as extroverted characters. Even if you can't voice what you want, it doesn't mean ypu don't value company.
character with severe disabilities just living their best lives without it becoming a spectacle.
characters with carers
Disabled characters with an amazing humor
Disabled characters that are bit of dicks. Not because of like babying or anything, just because it's their personality.
People with physical disabilities that are also sporty
Disabled characters that show the real problems with caring, not just "them being disabled makes them evil."
People with "scary" disabilities as allies to heroes.
Disabled kids with complex personalities
Inspiried of my rant about kid characters lol. Subjection "give disabled kids personalities". Feel free to add own.

Coming Soon: May Trope Mayhem 2024!
Tumblr media
It’s almost time for May Trope Mayhem!
What is May Trope Mayhem? It’s Duck Prints Press’s annual multi-fandom/original work creation event! Our creators have shared their favorite tropes, and we’ve picked 30 (+1 free day!), one per day of May to make an awesome, fun, diverse list of prompts to inspire your creativity. Come May 1st, we invite everyone to create a ficlet, artwork, gif set, photo montage, or whatever else they feel like, inspired by the trope of the day. We’re open to any fandom or no fandom at all, original characters and old faves, any ship (yes even that one) or no ship or reader inserts or, or, or… basically, if you can imagine it, we can accommodate it!
This year marks our fourth-annual May Trope Mayhem. Curious about the event? You can learn some by checking out our previous three years!
the 2021 May Trope Mayhem list and rules
the 2022 May Trope Mayhem list and rules
the 2023 May Trope Mayhem list and rules
the AO3 Parent Collection
The rules for 2024 will be about the same as in the past, so the only big change will be in the tropes – some are repeats, some are not. And of course day 31 is still a free day – we’d love to know YOUR favorite trope, especially if it it doesn’t end up our list for this year!
The 2024 list goes public on May 1st. Mark your calendars, tell yours friends, and get ready to create with us! And follow us on social media to make sure you don’t miss a thing!
Backers on Patreon can see the list early! It’s up now – become a backer and check it out.

I finished the third version of the first draft of The Specters.
I may do some work on editing the Worldbuilding file, so it's up to date with the current version of the story.
And, honestly speaking, the final six chapters now exist in the form of notest, the length of barely 100-400. I may or may not add some thoughts to those notes, so they are a little longer. I still have three days of leave, so they will be dedicated to post-draft cleaning, I guess.
I'm glad to say I found the way (during writing the previous version -- now it solidified) to finish the story without sacrificing (killing) any of the main characters. Instead, it ends in a way that opens the door for a sequel, although I do not think I will write it. At least I'm not making such plans at the moment.
I feel fulfilled. :)

More stories where romance is not the point but it is a point.
We’re on a quest and I’m liking you more and more.
I’m training to be a wizard and you’re training to be a knight and I hope I can convince you we should get married when we meet again.
We’ve got lives to live and this spaceship to fly and people to help and I love you.
I’m a king and you are my loyal companion who helped keep me alive long enough to take the throne I love you and that could become more than it is.
I trust your rule and I will protect you and I think I love you.
I’m a ruler and this marriage is for heirship and I’ve got a thousand other duties but you are passionate and intelligent and understanding and we could love each other.
The world is crumbling as we know it but we always intended to get married and why should we let this get in the way
We’re both busy fighting schemes and keeping alive but I love you let’s stay alive
Love is transformative but it’s everyday. It happens while you are living. It doesn’t take you away.

I'm in the Final Climax of The Specters. Wow.
And, like, a week ago I had six chapters to finish. Yesterday I had seven -- and worked on two.
Today I worked on another three and I have eight to go...
Granted, they are shorter chapters, but, like I said, that final part required the most work -- and still does. And it still will, at the end of this run...

Given how wizards are themed around higher education, with their universities and ivory towers, I wanna see more fiction that goes into their published papers.
Like, there should be massive drama in the Wizarding world about how Fantasy Wikipedia says "There's no consensus about the origins of skydoves" when in fact, there very much is, everyone knows they were created in the first or second dragon wars, and that's uncontroversial. One single wizard at the University of Towers who thinks they're an offshoot of mermaids DOES NOT MEAN IT'S AN OPEN ISSUE.
Papers that are rebuttals to other magical discoveries. Like, look, that spell just won't work, and you can't call it a "theoretical exercise" just to cover up the fact that you've not been able to cast it. You can't combine Ichthyomancy with completely unrelated elemental summonings, that's just not how magic works, in all due respect.
Thesis defense would be significantly scarier when all your reviewers can cast Everburning Fireball on your ass.
Learning Theoretical Evocation from a hungover lizardman TA at 8am, because the professor for this course has been off on the Elemental Plane of Circles for half the semester trying to finish her paper on how Centaurs predate horses rather than the other way around.
Speaking of which, the life of a wizard graduate student... You keep getting called to go on "quests" which are just overgrown research expeditions to help out some professor's project. You spent nearly a month in that damp castle capturing all the spinfrogs you could find, all to help your professor's project on the possibilities of concentrated soul essences. To this day, you still get dizzy whenever you see battlements, let alone a donjon.

fun fact: I usually write Fear Me styled as a regular title (when I don't just reference "starlightverse" and keep everyone confused) but in my head it's always been styled in all caps, so every time I go to reference it on this blog I accidentally write FEAR ME and then I have to rewrite it so it doesn't read like I'm yellin lol

Could I ask for tips on how to write kisses?
Writing The Perfect Kiss Scene
#1 Find the RIGHT moment
We all know what I mean! The "zing" when the character's faces are get close enough must come unexpected (but) when both of them are looking for romance/comfort.
For example:
Tripping over each other in the hallway
Person A covering their face with their hands and Person B prying them off, their eyes meeting...
Sitting next to each other in the library, elbows touching, and they happen to turn around to face each other...
Find a natural way to bring your characters the romantic atmosphere!
#2 Noticing the Other Person
It's natural to to see someone in a different way when there's romantic vibe pulsating in the air. Maybe your character notices that their crush has a speck of green in their eyes they didn't notice before.
#3 Build Ups
Describe how the characters feel moments before their lips touch. This includes things like racing hearts, sweaty palms, unsteady breathing. etc.
#4 Feeling all Self-Conscious
If you're writing a first-person POV or want to portray the nervous excitement of kissing a love interest for the first time, you can afford to have your character be distracted by how they feel inside, or worrying about how they smell/look, etc.
Maybe they feel like it's too early in the relationship to kiss
They're still thinking about that annoying math problem
Did I apply my new cherry-flavored chapstick? etc.
This should come in the same beat as the "notice the other person", heightening the romance tension between the characters.
Once they get closer and the kiss actually happens, these worries will melt away!
#4 Describing the Details
In most cases, it's best to keep things understated (especially in regards to tongues)
tongues cannot "tangle" or "battle" or "swish around"...please, no.
Focus on the lips and how the characters move (like hugging, pushing the other against a wall, breathing, etc.), adding the tongue as an afterthought.
Don't get too exicted about taste.
No, her tongue didn't taste like fresh roses and peaches, unless she was eating peach candy right before the kiss.
Focus on other sensations other than taste: especially touch, heat. the tickle of his breath on her cheekc, etc. Or even the smell of shampoo.
#5 The Pullaway + Reaction
Does the kiss end naturally, or does something else interrupt them?
How do the characters react: do they blush, say something, hug he other person, or run away with a deep blush? For couples, they can even tease the other.

56 scenes in the can. 11 more to go and 11 more days of my leave.
All the remaining scenes require solid work. On the other hand, they will be pure "first draft", so I'm allowed to make mistakes, repeat myself, miss the word-count, write dialogue-only or description-only.
I just have to remember that I'm allowed to do that, lol, and not stress myself too much.
And...
Six Sentence Saturday
“I didn’t know that I could do it,” Neve defended herself. “It’s just-- The three of you presented such a united front defending Anaher. Noel. And I couldn’t explain it with words, but I thought that if I could just show you, and then I thought, why not try it the way I do with-- mice. And birds. And it worked, only different, because you all fell unconscious and I broke that contact right away, I swear. It was, like a second, not longer.”
(exactly six sentences, lol)

So, there's that problem with trying to write two things at the same time (apparently I forgot about it). It's called "making a decision". Decisions are hard. Especially once you get thrown out of the rhythm.
Wendesday threw me off. Yesterday I didn't write, because -- I see it now -- I couldn't decide. So, today I have to force myself through the process and, well, I'll do it right here. :)
Both stories are at a difficult moment. In Crystal Spring, I have to essentially get into the habit of writing new words. I re-read what can be considered a solid second draft and now I have to continue. I know what to write, I have it all mapped out. What scares me, then? I think it's just the process of starting it. Actually, maybe I even want to do it, but then a thought appears in my head, "but what about Specters?"
Yeah. Is that the problem? That I actually WANT to write both? I guess so. The upcoming Specters chapter requires small edits, but it's emotionally very important, so I'd want to perhaps shape it better than it's been shaped in the earlier version. After that chapter, though... I have about ten chapters that are not written at all and those will be hard. Also, I gave myself (another) deadline -- twelve days from now. A chapter a day. And by procrastinating I'm clearly sabotaging that deadline. Also, the moment I'm close to making a decision that I will not give in to the little sabotaging child in my head, a thought appears, "but what about Crystal Spring? Isn't int more enticing?"
Brain. Why?
Okay, damn, Specters it is and Crystal Spring later today. Or tomorrow, if today won't be possible.
Done.
