Ultimately you can't please everybody. Having a gender locked MC and some not liking that idea is proof of that. Personally, as an adult kpop fan, I really love the idea of you delving in to darker themes and I don't mind at all that MC is gender locked. It creates more depth. And every kpop fan knows there are differences between girl and boy groups. There's nothing wrong with exploring one over the other :) Just keep doing you! If there is someone who wants to play from the male perspective... maybe they should create that lol

I know I can’t (which is pretty bad for me imo as a people pleaser, like I said before :/) but thank you regardless! I wasn’t planning on making it not genderlocked anyway so that was not going to change. I believe there’s a saying called, “be change you want to see” so you know, if you’re unhappy with the female MC then you try to make a male and nb kpop if.

how do you feel about darker themes in the game?

finally deciding to follow that anon’s advice and make a poll about it.

Right now, ST4RDOM is a 17+ interactive fiction game with themes like mild alcohol, violence, language, (potential) sexual content, homophobia, sexism, and other disturbing themes.

However, there are other things I want to go into. That would probably include something like racism (ex. whitewashing), and especially mentions of sexual assault/abuse.

Before I even decide then, I want to get your opinion on this:

i think having the game be gender-locked is a) perfectly understandable for the setting and story taking place b) a valid choice for an author to make (you get to tell the stories you want to focus on) and lastly, having a gender-locked female MC is honestly not a big deal compared to how long games (and other fiction) was primarily told for and about men. if anything it would take a long time with only female MCs to 'even' this out (if ever!) :b personally, i prefer a gender-locked game rather than a game that treats gender as something that has no impact on the story and characters <:

It kind of makes sense that the game is genderlocked. Korea is very patriarchal and girl groups face more scrutiny in the media compared to boy groups due to sexism. I think you would have to write to different stories to make gender of choice work

this anon got me all figured out lol. But it’s not only because girl groups experience more sexism (which is something that will be touched upon), but simply because I wanted to focus on other aspects that would be harder to do if you could choose MC’s gender. If I didn’t, I would have allowed it and made a whole game where the group members depended on MC’s gender, if they are nonbinary that they have to hide it, etc.

The game would be incredibly massive—it already is even when MC is locked as female. I feel like I would only create a shallow game with only mentions of these heavy topics if I did not set MC as female.

Anyways. Sorry about the long response, it gets a bit frustrating after a while when people complain about the game being genderlocked female MC when I HAVE a reason for doing so.

re: going a darker direction with the game, i don't have the impression that games with more mature themes have less fans than the ones that don't explore those topics. if anything, some of the most popular wips i know of right now are all 18+ and explore pretty dark themes (but that's obviously anecdotal and not based on a study or anything). you could always do a poll to ask people how they feel about darker story elements! (i'll enjoy this game either way personally <: )

I’d like to thank both of these anons (unless they are the same person??) for sending in these asks. You make valid points, and although I think that having a kpop based if with a genderlocked female MC of Korean origins is already too much for some, there are more sensitive issues I might want to touch upon in the future. But thank you regardless. And I’ll think about that poll too!

i saw your tags about ideally wanting to go darker with the story - if that's the type of story you want to write, i think you should absolutely go for it! there are if fans out there too who also want to see subjects explored more realistically or darkly in fiction, as long as the story is properly trigger warned i don't see why people would have an issue :o (but of course you ultimately decide what story YOU want to tell!)

aw thank you anon! and as much as I appreciate it, one of the things I fear (I suppose) is that people will stop playing the game the more darker/maturer it gets. I know I shouldn't be concerned about this - having a bunch of fans is not important, but I still worry. that's probably why I am a people pleaser 😅

Probably not to the point of being called names in MC’s face or getting physically violent about it, but homophobia will be expressed by fans and the media if MC gets outed (or goes public with the news). As for the extent, it’ll go as far as questions and reactions on the internet.

Happy Black Day (블렉데이) from ST4RDOM!

This is an unofficial holiday celebrated mainly in Korea by singles who did not receive gifts or valentines. Typically they will eat jajangmyeon (짜장면), or black bean noodles, with other singles.

This holiday is kind of funny since I can imagine the entire cast of ST4RDOM eating these noodles in solidarity. It'd be chaotic, with a lot of drinking and eating and laughing as they share a meal together.

Obviously that likely won't happen canonically, but it never hurts to dream about it.

And for all those singles out there...you're not alone.

Seungho is an interesting case, because as much as he seems open about his relationships he doesn’t actually talk much about them because they are VERY casual. As in, most likely 2-3 dates max in 2029. Yes, it is really hard for idols to be with a date in public because of the fans, but he hasn’t been in a serious relationship for a long time.

The media likes to spread a lot of rumors, gossip, and scandals about him because they see from his history that he’s a playboy. In a way, he is. It’s why some people don’t like him. Fans are often jealous and heartbroken when they hear news about his hanging out with a girl. But many times those articles contain lies and untrue choice of words.

Nari LOVES Valentine’s Day. I got an ask with the theme centered around February 14, which you can check the post for yourself. She loves the holiday so much that she goes all out for it, decorating the dorm in pink. Although she has been confessed to before, she has never reciprocated those feelings. Nari has expressed interest in someone but never had the guts to say it out loud, even if she is a romantic at heart.

Chang-ho honestly thinks it’s alright—he doesn’t have any huge reservations about it. Has been confessed to plenty of times but rejected them all since he didn’t think he cared about love, and thus never wanted to get into a relationship. Never has confessed to anyone because he knows he doesn’t have the time to invest himself emotionally in a relationship.

Andy believes that Valentine’s Day is a beautiful day where couples can come together to celebrate their love for each other. Has never been confessed to, but has often confessed when they think that their feelings have been reciprocated. It’s only happened once where they were felt in return (doesn’t really count as their crush confessing it back though since Andy had been the one to initiate it).

Seungho does not think much about Valentine’s Day unless he has a crush or girlfriend. Nari: Usually is knocked out after having her midnight snack. If she goes to sleep any earlier before midnight she’ll always get up without fail at that time.

Chang-ho: Nope, it’s hard for him to go to sleep when his profession requires him to be ready at all times.

Andy: Used to have insomnia issues, but ever since they began taking melatonin supplements it has been getting better.

Seungho: Usually is exhausted after a long day, so he’s in bed before anyone else is. You’d be surprised at how quick his energy drops when he gets back to the place.

Gracie: She needs a good night’s sleep and has been making sure to go to sleep at a specific time every night. If you make it a habit, it will soon get consistent.

Hello! I've been looking at old asks and I know MC can't be main vocalist/rapper since it's Sofie and Nari's roles but why can't she be considered lead vocalist/rapper, since it's a different role than main? Just curious, I hope it doesn't sound mean!

yeah I know, there’s main, lead, then sub. I’m not sure why back then I only did just vocalist and rapper with no lead in front of it. But I’d say it’s pretty much implied that she’ll be lead rapper or vocalist. I should probably update the post too since Vi’s title is literally just “Vocals” 😐😐

Hmm, for music and MVs?

For ST4RDOM, I’d say TWICE. aespa is another one, but I say that only because of the vibes; a beta tester sent me a video of their concert and I’m convinced that they were the embodiment of ST4RDOM in that video.

KMonarchs is similar to ENHYPEN and SEVENTEEN, both for music and MVs.
