This is like basic stuff and only really noteworthy when comparing trek to itself but I still appreciate how the Discovery writers, whenever a character is Going Through It, clearly think on which other characters are likely to relate to that situation based on past conflicts and get them to have a little chat about it. Like Book and Saru talking about their justified yet unproductive anger towards those who've harmed their people, Stamets recognizing Adira's struggle with losing (yet not quite losing) a partner, Gray relating to Zora's struggle to be seen (as alive and sentient) despite their unique states, Tilly and Michael's mother discussing how to change your own path in life after singlemindedly pursuing a specific goal for so long. idk it's nice after watching a lot of older trek where the same dozen awful things happen to the cast in rotation but they rarely speak about it again to each other despite having shared the same pain
