Tumblr media
Hey guys, so Iā€™m nearing the end of my senior year, and itā€™s been great so far! I accomplished my academic tasks efficiently and didnā€™t burn myself out, and I think the main contributor to my success as a student is my organization system. This system has been refined throughout my high school years, but I think now Iā€™ve finally found the most effective methods.
Please remember that this isnā€™t the only organization system you can adopt; this is just the one that works the best for me, and I hope that by sharing it with you, youā€™ll gain a new perspective on how to stay organized as a high school student.
Tumblr media
The first thing I wanna talk about is my notebook system, which I briefly mentioned in my Guide to Note-Taking.
My notebook system comprises three types of notebooks: the Everything Notebook, the subject notebook, and the revision notebook.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Everything Notebook
The first stage is in-class notes. I only bring one notebook to school every day. I call it my Everything Notebook, and this is where I write down all of the notes I take in class. This way, I donā€™t have to lug around six notebooks where Iā€™m only going to use a few pages in each of them that day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Subject Notebooks
At the end of the day, I would revise my notes and compare them to the syllabus so I know where we are in the learning process. I would then transfer my class notes from my Everything Notebook to my different subject notebooks. This is stage two. I also start to jazz up my notes because I use the notes in my subject notebooks to study for tests.
In addition to my class notes, I include material from my teachersā€™ notes that they might not have elaborated on, as well as points in the syllabus (Iā€™m currently taking A2) that were only glazed over briefly, or not at all, in some cases. (Note: this does not mean they completely skip a chapter or topic; itā€™s more like they missed a few bullet points that should be in my notes but arenā€™t. An example would be if weā€™re learning about phenol reactions and the teacher forgot to mention the use of FeCl3 as a test for phenol.)
Tumblr media
Revision Notebooks
Stage three comes a little later, when exam week is just around the corner. Essentially, I rewrite and improve my notes from my five different subject notebooks into a single revision notebook or binder. (Recently, Iā€™ve opted for a revision notebook because theyā€™re lighter and easier to carry around.)
Tumblr media
Because my teachers donā€™t always teach in the order of the syllabus, the first thing I do is organize my notes according to the syllabus. I would then fill in any other missing gaps in the material that hadnā€™t been filled in stage two.
Tumblr media
When compiling material for my revision notebook, I use as many sources as possible: my own notes, my teachersā€™ notes, youtube videos, online sites, and my favorite, the mark scheme! I add in some answers from past papers (explanations only, so no calculations) mainly to secure marks. Itā€™s safer to memorize definitions straight from the mark scheme than from the textbook or from handouts. I also do this to ease my memorization, especially for topics that require lengthy explanations. Itā€™s a lot easier to remember the 6 points I need to explain the principles of NMRI than to remember everything in the four-page handout my teacher gave me.
Tumblr media
Folders and binders are essential to organizing your papers. Some people keep a single accordion folder for all their papers, but for me itā€™s just too heavy to carry around all the time. The same goes for subject folders that are brought to school every day.
Instead, my binder/folder system comprises my Everything Folder and my subject binders.
Tumblr media
The Everything Folder
The folder I carry with me to school every day is this A4 folder I got from Tokyu Hands. It has 5 pockets, one for each day of the week, so all the papers I receive on Monday will go behind the first divider, and so on.
Some people also keep blank papers in their folders; I donā€™t because my school has its own lined paper and graphing pads that I keep under my desk that I use if a teacher asks us to do an assignment on those papers. If I do work at home, I prefer to just use a plain A4 paper or a legal pad.
Tumblr media
Subject Binders
At the end of the week, Iā€™ll sort my papers into my subject binders. Sometimes Iā€™ll keep some papers in the folder if I think Iā€™ll be needing it the next week. This usually only applies to worksheets because all my teachersā€™ notes are available on Google Classroom, so I can access them even if I donā€™t physically have them.
Tumblr media
Each of these binders have sections inside them:
Physics: 1 for handouts, notes, and tests, 1 for Paper 4 (Theory), 1 for Paper 5 (Practical Planning). I included extra tabs to mark the different topics in the handouts section.
Chemistry: same as Physics.
Economics: 1 for Paper 3 (MCQ), 1 for Paper 4 (Case Study and Essay). A lot of my Economics material is online, though.
English: 1 for Paper 3 (Text and Discourse analysis), and 2 for Paper 4 (Language Topics, which includes 1 for Child Language Acquisition, 1 for World Englishes). Past papers, handouts, and notes all go under their respective topics.
Mathematics: I just keep everything together because I never revise math and just constantly do past papers.
This makes it easier for me to revise each subject because I can just take one binder with me instead of a messy folder with everything just shoved in there.
Tumblr media
I keep a magazine file for each of my A-Level subjects (English and Mathematics are combined). All my textbooks, revision guides, and subject notebooks are kept here, so if I need to revise one subject, thatā€™s the magazine file Iā€™ll take out.
Tumblr media
These magazine files prevent any small things (like my book of flashcards) from being shoved to the back of my bookshelf, or materials from different subjects from getting mixed up.
Tumblr media
In my senior year, I mostly plan using this app called Edo Agenda. It syncs across all my devices for free and has all the features I need: a to do list to organize tasks, monthly and weekly calendars to organize events, a journal to organize notes and memos.
Tumblr media
I used to bullet journal regularly, but it takes too much time during weekdays, so now I just bullet journal for the therapeutic effects it gives me, and I use an app for organizing tasks and events. Sometimes at the end of each week, Iā€™ll transfer my tasks to my bullet journal and then decorate the page, but again, this is just for its therapy.
Tumblr media
Organizing your school supplies is just as important as organizing your papers and notes. With a more organized backpack and pencil case, you wonā€™t waste time looking for your things at the bottom of an abyss.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pencil Case
I donā€™t find it necessary to bring so much stationery to schoolĀ unless I plan on making notes at school (usually during revision week).
Backpack
Because weā€™re already in the revision term, I donā€™t really carry a lot of things in my everyday backpack, just the following:
Pencil case
Everything Notebook
Everything Folder
Revision notebook
Kindle
Phone
Wallet
Earphones
Calculator
Speaker
Drinking bottle
A pouch with things like a hairbrush, pads, and lip balm
And thatā€™s all for now! I hope this post will help you organize your school life (if you havenā€™t already) or at least provide some useful insights on some ways to stay organized as a high school student.

PRO TIP FOR TYPING NOTES FROM A TEXTBOOK
before you start taking notes on the actual content, type out all the headings and subheadings of the chapter. trust me.
count how many headings you now have in total. in your count, only include the headings or subheadings that contain the information youā€™ll be writing down when you take the actual notes. any headings that contain useless information which you wonā€™t be writing down do not need to be part of this number.
count how many days you have to complete the notes before they are due.
now divide the number of headings by the number of days. the resulting number will tell you how many headings of notes you need to take each day in order to stay on track with the assignment.
this is a reliable method to ensure that you donā€™t fall behind when notes are assigned. using this has saved me so much sleep; i hope it does the same for you! :-)

- Ķ€Ģ—feb 4thĀ  ĶĢ–-
hello lovelies!! in celebration of surpassing 1k on my studyblr, iā€™m starting a series called time for oā€™s,Ā which will beĀ a compilation of tips on studying and note-taking that iā€™ve gathered as i approach my oā€™ level exams this year. so without further ado, iā€™ll kick off the first part of this seriesĀ į••( į› )į•—
time for oā€™s // colour coding
when taking notes from a textbook, or in class, having a colour code makes sieving through tons of information much much easier!! by sorting the information when you first receive it, this makes writing notes a lot more efficient, because you now have the ability to sort your post-its in whichever way makes the most sense to you. iā€™ve found that the code above is not only applicable to many subjects, but also doesnā€™t force you to omit any syllabus content!!
this colour code can also be extended to your highlighters and notes, by using the different colors as headers - click here to see an example of the colour code in my notes!
you can also opt to just have a colour code for your highlighters, and utilise them in your textbooks rather than write the information out on post its
request tips / got a question about colour codes?

hello everyone!! as a high school junior taking 4 aps, 3 other classes, preparing for the act, trying to do college research, stage managing a musical, and trying not to lose my mind, here are some fun n handy tips for not Dying when ur schedule is hell!Ā Ā
if you found this post helpful maybe give it a like/reblog and check out my other posts here!
01 | PLANNING AND PREPARING
so much of getting and staying organized has to do with organizing your time in advance.Ā  there are a million ways to do this--google calendar, a bullet journal, a planner, some post-it notes.Ā  my system involves three parts: a google calendar, a planner, and an online to-do list app.Ā Ā
google calendar: this is mostly for events.Ā  i can see when i have rehearsals, classes, doctorā€™s appointments, etc.Ā  this helps me see how much available time i have and budgeting it properly.Ā Ā
planner: i take this with me to school, and i use it to right down when i have assignments and tests.Ā  i use the ban.do planner, but these are a bit pricey, and really anything will do.Ā  just somewhere to put down tasks so you can keep track of them
getplan.co: this app is, honest to god, the only reason i am still alive and breathing.Ā  it plugs into your google calendar and then allows you to create and schedule tasks around events.Ā  @studycxlture has an amazing post about plan here that i def recommend checking out!
general tips about planning:Ā
plan out the events of your month at least two days before it starts
set aside a night (i like sunday evenings) to set up a system for the upcoming week and go over what you have planned so you donā€™t forget anything
you are NOT gonna remember that assignment that teacher told you about.Ā  write it down.Ā Ā
you do not need a fancy system.Ā  itā€™s okay to try lots of different things until you find what worksĀ
never spend more time planning out tasks than completing them.Ā  unless you have that much free time, donā€™t dedicate two hours to making a lovely weekly bullet journal spread.Ā Ā
color codes!!! are a life saver.Ā  i have one with a color for each class (red for english, orange for spanish, yellow for history, green for science, blue for math, etc) as well as some for my extracurriculars (pink for the musical, teal for model un, etc).Ā Ā
always have ur planner open when ur working, so that you can make sure u r actually completing all the tasks u said u were gonna complete
02 | STAYING ORGANIZEDĀ
oh my god oh my god oh my god staying on top of your work is SO important when youā€™re busy.Ā  being able to find your worksheets and keep track of your homework and your million responsibilities is essential to being successful.Ā  to stay organized, i have an expandable file folder with tabs for each class.Ā  because i take most of my notes in notebooks instead of binders, this is a good way to keep all of my handouts, worksheets, and syllabi centralized.Ā Ā
also, make sure you have a way to keep your online materials organized.Ā  create a folder for each school year, and within that folder, create more folders for each class.Ā  from there, itā€™s up to you about how youā€™ll organize files. you can create even MORE folders (yeet) for things like homework, notes, study guides, etc, or folders for each unit you study.Ā  the possibilities are endless!!!! isnā€™t technology exciting
here r some pieces of advice for staying organized:Ā
have a series of folders/binder/expandable file folder to hold your worksheets.Ā  or one for each class, though i prefer to keep all my papers in one a) to save money and b) to save space.
label your notebooks/binders so that you know which ones to bring home with you
never just shove something into your backpack.Ā  never.Ā  iā€™m gonna manifest into ur classroom and FIGHT you if u do that.Ā  itā€™s not good, itā€™ll end up getting lost or crushed under the weight of all ur textbooks, and youā€™ll end up panicking when u canā€™t find itĀ
have ur planner on u at all times
keep a good filing system of ur stuff at home.Ā  u donā€™t need to carry around every single bio assignment youā€™ve gotten back, but by the time ur final rolls around ur gonna want 2 b able to look at all the materials youā€™ve gotten during the semester
that being said, throw stuff away when the year is over!Ā  i, for one, know iā€™m never gonna think about calculus after this class is done, so i will be recycling all of my papers (save the earth) and moving tf onĀ
keep a recycling bin in your room!Ā  even if itā€™s just a paper bag, itā€™ll make throwing paper in the trash way less tempting (save the earth)
u donā€™t need a ton of pens.Ā  iā€™m being a giant hypocrite saying this but you really donā€™t need all that stuff.Ā  if you want it and you can manage it, great, but if itā€™s just another thing to keep track of, leave ur staedtlers and ur mujis and ur fineliners and ur calligraphy pens at home, and just take the essentials with u to school
03 | MAKING THE MOST OF UR TIME
in order to succeed, itā€™s v important to make every second count.Ā  this doesnā€™t mean studying 48 hours straight (pls donā€™t), but try not to waste time. whether this means you spend fifteen minutes napping, doing some reading for english, or having a quick snack, make sure u are being productive and healthy!Ā  i, for one, sometimes have 1-2 hour breaks between school and rehearsal, and i like to use these to walk to the grocery store by my school and get some food and then study in the deli.Ā Ā
some ideas for being productive!Ā
carry a clipboard around everywhere.Ā  this way, u donā€™t need to spend as much time transitioning in and out of tasks, u can just put ur work onto the clipboard, and put it in ur backpack at the end of a break, and then the next chance u have to work on it, just take it back out.Ā  easy peasy
work during commutes! nOT if ur the one driving the car though thatā€™s VERY dangerous and distracted driving = bad.Ā  but if ur on the bus, or ur mom is driving u to school, that might be a good time to go over some notes you took last night, or some reading you need to catch up on.Ā  nothing too insane, please donā€™t do ur chem labs on the public bus but.Ā  u know.Ā Ā
read over the notes you took that day on the ride home.Ā  this will help reinforce the information in ur brain, and itā€™s not super difficult. i go over my apush notes during the 40 minute drive home and sometimes talk about them w my mom, which gives me a much better grasp of the material
donā€™t waste time on social media.Ā  either delete instagram altogether, or log off/mute notifications before u start work.Ā  same with tumblr.Ā  donā€™t start scrolling obsessively if u have three tests to study for.Ā
power naps!!!! napping for about 10-20 minutes, maybe on the way home or to practice/rehearsal/whatever u gotta do, can help u feel refreshed!Ā  anything longer will make u more tired tho, so be sure to get up when u say ur gonna get up.Ā Ā
study smarter: when ur going over material, u donā€™t need to handwrite 60 beautiful flashcards.Ā  use quizlet instead.Ā  donā€™t revise if itā€™s not gonna help u.Ā  prioritize which assignments r gonna be most impactful over the little ones u can easily make up
take good breaks!! breaks r VERY important and should be utilized properly.Ā  here r some good suggestions for things to do:Ā
throw in a load of laundry
empty the dishwasher
stretch/do some jumping jacks
drink some water!
go for a walk
talk to a family memberĀ
get a snack!
read some fun novels n such
scream?
!! in case of emergency !! the following tips should only be employed when ur short on time.Ā  donā€™t use these just bc u can, this is just when itā€™s about getting close enough to grasping material, not actually grasping it
do every other math problem assigned, and either star the ones u didnā€™t do, or get the answers from the back of the book.Ā  this way, u get some practice but u also save time
sparknotes ur reading beforehand.Ā  this way, u can recognize whatā€™s going on.Ā  itā€™s not v good for developing ur reading comprehension, but assignments will go by quicker
NEVER google translate ur language homework, but u can use word reference for helping u find the right word and proper conjugations
flagpole it: didnā€™t study enough for a test?Ā  are u guessing on like 10 of the questions?Ā  if itā€™s multiple choice, but the same answer for all the ones u have no clue about, unless that answer choice seems highly unlikely.Ā  then pick a different one.Ā  this way, ur statistically more likely to get some of the ones you guessed correct.Ā
when u have an online assignment due at midnight and itā€™s 11:53 and u havenā€™t started, find another assignment youā€™ve already completed that has a similar document name.Ā  for example,Ā ā€œscarlet letter chapters 9-11ā€³ instead of ur actual assignmentĀ ā€œscarlet letter chapters 12-14ā€³.Ā  submit the other one, and then when u finish the other assignment (either that night or the next morning) email ur teacher and apologize, say u accidentally submitted the wrong document
if ur parents will let u (if ur in high school) or u can let urself (if ur in uni), itā€™s okay to skip a day to catch up.Ā  just make sure u actually work, get the notes u missed, and talk to ur teachers/professors abt the material u missed.
04 | STAYING HEALTHYĀ
ur health comes before any assignment, test, or extracurricular.Ā  i know lots of ppl r probably telling u that and it doesnā€™t seem like they mean it, but i mean it.Ā  no exam is worth sacrificing ur mental, physical, or emotional health for.Ā  yeet!Ā  so here r some things to keep in mind
eat!Ā  ur fuckin!Ā  breakfast!Ā  whether itā€™s a smoothie or oatmeal or a cup of orange juice or an apple or an elaborate french toast dish, u need some food in ur stomach so that u have the energy to start ur day
remember to take ur meds if u need to!
drink water!Ā  drink! water!Ā  have a glass when u wake up, and then at least one with every meal, and one before u go to bed.Ā  hydration is v important.Ā  if u can, invest in a water bottle and take it with u to class.Ā Ā
pack a lunch!Ā  and if ur staying later after school, pack snacks!Ā  tech week for me is always hell because i get to school at 7:30 am and donā€™t usually leave until 11 that night.Ā  itā€™s v important to stay nourished and hydrated so that u donā€™t get dizzy or faint.Ā Ā
remember!Ā  that u are beautiful, and ur body is beautiful, and it deserves 2 b loved! especially by u.Ā Ā
get 6 hours of sleep.Ā  aim for 8, but six at the very least.Ā  if ur done with ur work, go to bed early!Ā  donā€™t just stay up for no reason.Ā Ā
shower everyday, or every other day at least.Ā  give yourself those 15 minutes as a break from work or school or anything else thatā€™s keeping you busy
write down ur thoughts in a journal?Ā Ā
talk to a friend if ur feeling sad, or just feeling things very intensely.Ā  share ur joy with other people!Ā  vent ur sadness and anger so u arenā€™t carrying it around everywhere.Ā
make some time to have fun.Ā  see a movie w ur friends or ur bf/gf/datefriend or ur family over the weekend.Ā  go to a museum.Ā  hang out at the mall.Ā  sleepover at someoneā€™s house.Ā  taking breaks is healthy.Ā Ā
make an effort to have dinner with ur family if u can (also if u like ur family.Ā  i know some ppl have bad relationships w them so skip this step if thatā€™s u).Ā  it can be nice to reconnect w everyone, even when ur stressed or theyā€™re annoying u, it can be nice.Ā Ā
remember that itā€™s okay to be imperfect!Ā  u donā€™t need to be good at a lot of things.Ā  i got a b for the first time last semester, i just got a c on an apush test, i failed my driverā€™s test again yesterday.Ā  but i also aced my math quiz, i celebrated six months of knowing my best friend, i walked my dog, i helped put a production together.Ā  itā€™s okay to have rough days and bad days and bleh days, as long as you keep pushing through them and working for the days to get better.Ā Ā
i love u!!! stay hydrated and nourished and get enough sleep.Ā  put on some lotion if u have it available.Ā  brush ur hair.Ā  if u ever wanna ask a question, my ask box is always open!Ā  <3
