I'd like to think Miles and Gwen are FF7 Remake-verse fans, and they love the main themes of the current games.

Miles sings "Hollow" while on the keyboard, while Gwen plays the drums. Similarly, Gwen sings "No Promises to Keep" while Miles is on the grand piano. They are lowkey dedicating their performances to each other.

After completing FF7: Rebirth, I think Clerith is actually a really good platonic soulmate rendition. You might think that because they keep following each other across the timelines/universes, they would develop feelings for each other, but they don't. Their souls are connected across the time and space, and yet, despite Aerith trying really hard, they find that they don't have romantic feelings for each others.

Throughout the game, even if you didn't do a CloTi run, it's clear that Cloud has romantic feelings for Tifa, and Aerith still has feelings for Zack. During the side quests, Cloud is way more comfortable with Tifa than Aerith, and he has much more chemistry with her to the extent that many other characters notice. Since Zack was dead, Aerith wanted to move on, and she tried her hardest to like Cloud because he was close to Zack and seemed similar to him, but she knows deeply that Cloud is never gonna replace Zack.

Despite their attractions to others, Cloud and Aerith are still really good friends, and it's clear that they truly care about each other. Cloud has saved her life many times, and even tried to prevent her death, and Aerith tries to make sure Cloud stays true to himself and not blame himself for anything that happens to her.

I hope that this continues in the third FF7 game since their friendship is one of the strongest relationships in the series. Because there are a lot of multiverse shenanigans, I hope it sticks the landing, and we get to see how the multiverse plot resolves. At that point, I hope both CloTi and Zerith will sail successfully.
