I wish that this book was translated into English as I have followed Valery ever since the accident. With the invention of social media, I was blessed to have met his daughter Inga and became friends. To my surprise, last year I received a parcel from Moscow and inside was this book. Unfortunately , my Russian is at the very beginning stages of learning so I've read about 4 pages so far.
There are so many amazing books that are not translated. I learned advanced level Russian to be able to read them.

Milton Friedman, stated that when the CIA reported that there was a higher caloric intake on the USSR, it was during a time where the soviet citizens could own their own land. Now that doesn't sound correct. Can you provide any texts or links to back this up or dispel it? To my understanding the citizens were always allowed to own their own land.
I'm sorry but I'm very busy these days and don't have any time or energy to look for that info.

Just some quotes about Valery Legasov:
“He was an uncompromisingly principled person.”
“He was most attracted to goodness and kindness in life.”
“Very sparingly, only to those closest to him, Valery Alekseyevich told us, literally with tears in his eyes, that there was a shocking unpreparedness for the accident in everything. He clearly understood that the lack of respirators, clean water supplies, medicine, delays with iodine prophylaxis and evacuation would do an awful thing, and the number of victims would increase.”
“Academician Legasov … placed his hand on his heart, as if taking an oath, and said: ‘I am pleading with you to evacuate the people, because I don’t know what will happen to the reactor tomorrow. … And as a scientist, I can’t foretell today what the consequences may be. I therefore plead that you evacuate the people.”
“He worked like a fanatic, he was sick, he suffered after Chernobyl. And he was convinced that good does not always win over evil.”
“Our last conversation took place one day before his death. We were leaving the department together, going down the stairs. Suddenly, Valery Alekseyevich said: ‘I never had time to do anything for you.’”
“Valery Alekseyevich was a man of free, independent, and strong character…. He had a strongly developed sense of responsibility and duty to the people, to the cause.”
“Valery Alekseyevich was one of those people who, when it was necessary to fight, fought; when it was necessary to hold one’s ground, he held it; when he suffered a defeat in a fight, he survived it properly and continued working and continued to fight.”
“I think the idea of helping people was one of the motives for his existence.... The opportunity to help a person in itself brought him joy.”
—-
If you think that the uncompromisingly principled, stubborn, humanitarian, I-have-a-duty-to-the-people, and helping-people-is-a-core-motive-for-my-existence Valery Legasov, who literally gave his life to contain the radiation coming from the UKRAINIAN nuclear power plant, who begged the Commission to evacuate the UKRAINIAN Pripyat civilians, would not have been amongst one of the more than 6,000 Russian scientists who signed an open letter condemning the Ukraine invasion, if you think he’d be okay with Russia: shelling near the Shelter that he named and helped design; cutting off the power supply to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant; holding the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant employees hostage (who are there to care for the Shelter, the New Safe Confinement, and the used nuclear fuel); and, killing Ukrainian children, then you’re literally brainwashed or insane or both. The pro-Putin Chernobyl enthusiasts (if you can even really call them that) can die mad about this post.
And I’m tagging his name, because his name is practically synonymous with the word Chernobyl.

100% agreed. Here is the screenshot for the context. This is some dark ass irony, this person supplies material about Legasov to the notorious real people porn fic gang and then throws a shit fit for Legasov's name being mentioned in an anti-war post, complete with Putinist propaganda. And here I am thinking I've seen it all.... Jesus Fucking Christ, man.
Tumblr media
The #1 supplier of fic material for porn about Legasov, and an avid consumer of Legasov-Shcherbina porn, doesn't want Legasov's name mentioned in any anti-war posts because using his name in anti-war posts is just plain insulting, guys. Peak comedy. Y'all degenerates can go fuck yourselves. Иди нахуй. Слава Україні!
