Chapter 12: Urgent Message
Cristine
For most of these past weeks or months or so, Adrien(or Alucard rather) and I had been doing almost nothing more than making love. We've been starting to talk again like we used to. Even though we became closer, I felt like something was missing in our new life or something that wasn't right. It felt like something was happening soon, something big. Possibly more than one thing. But it wasn't just that either, recently I have been getting strange dreams. Not like nightmares as terrifying as they would be to anyone, but it was more like someone was calling me or telling me something. I was at a loss at this point. I have been wanting to tell Alucard about these things but I could never really find the words to describe them.
However, I still enjoyed the things as they are now with Alucard. It was almost enough to distract me from those thoughts.
But as time passed, the thoughts became worse, they were even becoming nightmares.
___________________________________
One night, after "performing" one of our little intimate rituals, we laid together in his bed in our usual positions. I would lay my head on his chest and place my hand on his heart, while he had his arm around my waist and held my hand with his free one.
Normally, I would just fall asleep then and there, but I couldn't. I was too troubled with the many thoughts going through my head. I didn't want to see them in my dreams again.
" What's wrong?", I heard a familiar voice say that brought me back to reality.
" Hm?", I looked up to where I heard the voice. Of course, the voice belonged to my darling Alucard, who was currently looking down at me with a serious but concerned look on his face.
" Something's on your mind, I can tell.", he responded.
" How can you tell?", I asked him with my head slightly tilted to the side.
" Well for starters, you haven't been smiling as often as you used to; even though it was likely caused back when Taka and Sumi were still breathing, you have been up at nights longer than usual, you're not eating as much, not to mention that you've been talking in your sleep recently.", he told me," You've been doing that for a while now."
The corner of my lips turned to a frown as I laid my head on his chest again. I could already feel that he was looking at me with more concern as I felt his hand grasp a little more tightly on my own but he still was gentle with me as he always was with me.
" A lot of things have been going through my head. I have been feeling strangely a little scared...", I told him truthfully as I turned my head to him," Like something coming soon... Possibly a lot of things. Even my dreams are telling me."
" Describe them to me if you can.", he told me in his usual gentle tone," Or at least one of them, I don't like it when you are troubled."
" Well, one of them was like this: I was back at the cottage, but as before I was alone. I was just getting out of my bed and wearing nothing but white as if I was about to be married, only there was no ring nor anything floral. You weren't even there, nobody was.," I started in a gentle tone but also trying to think of the words to describe it," The sky was all dark outside, not even stars were out. But there was a fire in the distance. I walked out of the cottage to investigate, but when I did the forest was decaying; turning into ashes and blood into the air as I got closer."
" And what was going on when you found the location?", he asked as we repositioned ourselves. I sat myself up before followed suit. He scooted himself back until his back was against the bedpost. He pulled me in and held me in his arms.
I leaned into him and rubbed my cheek against his chest. I smiled a little after feeling him peck my forehead. It made it easier to find the words to describe the rest of my nightmare.
" When I got to the location... It was where the castle was located, only the castle wasn't there... Only the fire from the distance, but it wasn't just one.", I continued.
" How many were there?", he asked," Were they burning stakes?"
" Yes, many burning stakes. There were many people tied to them too, they were all turning into a crisp. But somehow, none of them were screaming... It was like they gave up on that, even looking like they accepted their fate.", I continued," But strangely, there were seven that were very close together, but they were so burnt that I couldn't tell what their last moments were. I couldn't tell if they screamed, struggled, or anything in that matter. Then, I heard strange chanting from behind me. When I looked back there was a hooded figure in bright red with a veil covering its face. It stopped chanting once in front of me. I asked who the figure was but I was not answered. Instead, it reached its black-boney hand out to me then only said one word."
" What was it?", he asked me.
" Come.", I answered.
" 'Come'? Just that?", he responded," What else happened? Did you take the hand?".
I shook my head a no, gently against his scarred but still broad chest." I woke up after that.", I answered. I then heard an "ah" come from him in response. We were then silent again for the next moment.
" What a grim dream, but I am sure that it was only a dream rather than anything more.", he stated," But if not, then I will do whatever in my power to end it or at least make it easier."
A smile was brought to my face after hearing that. Lifted my head to face him then placed a hand on his cheek to turn his direction towards mine.
" You don't always have to look out for me, what happened to me before is gone.", I whispered," But I am glad to know that you care."
Alucard smiled back as he took the hand on his cheek and said," I'd make a poor excuse of a lover otherwise.". His lips pressed against the palm of my hand gently before being placed on his chest above his heart.
Leaning forward, I pressed my lips against his. I could have sworn that I could feel him smiling underneath it. Not that it mattered, besides I was smiling too.
My eyelids were half-closed after only pulling away slightly, his eyes were half-closed as well. I playfully nuzzled my nose against his. I then laid my head on his chest, hearing the steady rhythm of his beating heart. His fingers were lightly stroking my hair, my shoulder, and down my waist. I could be in that position with him forever if we could.
___________________________________
Next morning...
I was by the river with Alucard, collecting some berries and vegetables while he collected the water. We both unspokenly decided to share the burden of survival since it we both knew it was unfair for one to do everything while the other did either nothing or almost nothing.
As I was just about finished collecting the food, I glanced over at Alucard. I couldn't help but smile at him, even just the mere sight of him brought me a sense of joy.
After he collected the water, I immediately turned away from him with a shy smile since I felt like he would have caught me staring at him. I then began to walk back to the castle with the basket of berries and vegetables. I could hear his footsteps catching up to mine.
" You seem happy.", I hear him state.
" Hm?", I hummed looking up at him," Oh, I am happy. This the happiest I have ever been."
He looked down at me and chuckled with one of his sweetest smiles." I've been happier too.", he told me.
As we got to the castle, my smile disappeared when I saw those impaled creatures and corpses. I averted my eyes from them by looking down as I walked. Though Adrien did do this to keep other intruders from coming here, I still felt frightened of them even the two human corpses still affected me." I know they frighten you, my love.", I heard Alucard say as we walked the steps and stop at the door," But this to keep outsiders from getting the wrong idea. I don't want what happened before to happen again."
" I know.", I responded with a nod. He set the two buckets of water aside he placed a hand on my shoulder while the other held my cheek, making me look up at him. " Besides, we need to be more cautious in times like these.", he added before giving me a gentle kiss on the forehead," I promise you that soon I will take them down and neither of us would ever have to see them again."
I leaned into his touch more and held his hand." I hope so.", she responded.
Just when we about to kiss each other's lips, we hear something in the distance approaching. As we turn our heads to look, Alucard removed his hand from my cheek and wrapped his arm around me from behind. For a moment, I thought it was a night creature. But I was relieved when proven wrong when a horse approaches with something laying on its' back.
" What's that?", I asked, pointing to the limp form on the horse's back.
" Not a 'what', love. A 'who'.", he corrected me before answering," And I am not sure who.".
He went down the steps and approached the panicked horse. He stroked its mane before observing the body.
I gasped when I saw the blood and when I saw that the body was missing a few parts. It was an awful sight to see.
Alucard didn't have a problem with it, he was used to sights like these. He picked up a hand of the body which had something tied to it. Alucard slips it out of the strings that tied it to the hand and unfolds it.
" To the Alucard of the castle,", he began to read before commenting," God sakes, why am I 'the Alucard' now?"
I tilted my head a little, wondering the same thing. Why 'THE'? "Alucard" is not even a title.
" To the Alucard of the castle,", he repeated before continuing to read," We the people of Denasti, beg your aid. Night creatures, vampires, and terrible demons assault us and we know why. Our defenses weaken and our numbers dwindle. Please, sir, save our souls."
This was a desperate message. The fellow died just to deliver it. I began to feel sorry for the soul after hearing what it said.
He turned the letter and muttered something I couldn't hear." Perhaps we should bury him.", he turned his head towards me after I made the suggestion.
" And we will, he shouldn't be rotting on this poor creature.", he responded as he turned his attention back to the body and removes it from the horse," Do get the shovel, love.". I gave him a nod then rushed I did to get one.

An hour and a half later...
We were just about done burning the man, up on a hill by a tree. We thought it would be more suitable for him.
We headed back inside the castle. I followed him to the armory and watched him by the door as he searched for his sword and shield.
" How long will you be gone?", I asked him.
" The village is about ten miles from here, so it will likely take a few hours there and back.", he responded as he keeps searching.
" So, not until tomorrow then?", I asked even though I already knew the answer.
" Yes.", he answered, though I am sure he knew that he didn't need to. I frowned a little and turned my head away from him.
" Cristine...", his steps towards me echoed in the room a bit as he called out to me in a gentle tone," It will be alright.".
He turned my head towards him by grabbing my chin between his thumb and index finger." They need someone who knows how to fight creatures.", he added.
" It's not that... I just...", I tried to find the words to explain my worries to him," What if it takes longer than that? What if you're dead or taken away? What if--?".
" Cristine.", he interrupted in his usually calm tone and held both sides of my face," It will be alright. Let me show you something."
He removed his hands from my face and took one of my hands. He led me out of the armory. He took me from hallway to hallway until we found a strange-looking room in the castle. It looked like some sort of study for magic, but I wasn't too sure. But in the center of the room was a large stone put and floating shards of glass. That was until it formed into a mirror.
He pointed to the mirror and told me," If this mirror will show whatever it is you ask. If I return by morning, you will not need it. If I do not return in two days or more, then something is wrong or something else has happened. You may use this mirror to see. Understand?".
I nodded my head a yes as my answer. I then wrapped my arms around him to embrace him, he hugged me back. I nuzzled his chest to hear his heart. It still was at a steady rhythm. It soothed me to hear it. I was even more soothed when I felt his arms around me and stroked my long dark Auburn hair.
He then pulled away from the embrace and kissed my lips. Our foreheads then touched for a small bit. I lift a hand and then stroked his cheek.
" I promise you that I will return to you by tomorrow.", he told me in a gentle tone.
" How can you be sure?", I asked, still worried over how he would.
" There will be nothing in this world or any other world that can keep me from you. No temptress, no mountain, no sea, nor demon ever will keep me from you.", he told me before placing his hand on mine that held his cheek," You are the only one who will own my heart. This I promise, my love."
He then tugged me into another kiss, only this one was deeper. I leaned into the kiss and wrapped my arms around his neck.

I stood by the front door as I watched him depart. Just before entering the woods, he turned back to me. I waved a farewell to him and tried to smile for him. He waved back at me as well. I could easily tell that he was trying to smile too, even from afar. He then turned back to the woods before walking away again. That's when my smile disappeared then went back inside the castle. I felt alone again even after only a short amount of time when Alucard departed. I was worried about him again already. I guess that's just what love does to a person.

Chapter 11: Deaths and Desires (Part II)
Cristine
I didn't know what to say when I entered Adrien's room or what I was thinking as I approached. All I could think was how wonderful his lips were against my own when I kissed him.
I opened my eyes slightly as I slowly pulled away from the kiss. When I looked at his expression, he looked at me all surprised or shocked. I started to worry, thinking I did something wrong. Long before this, I thought this was something he had wanted. How he would talk with me, hold me, and would kiss my head on a few occasions.
I bit the bottom of my lip out of feeling anxious. He just kept staring, not saying a word.
" I thought--", I began to say but was interrupted when Adrien pulled me into him, our lips touching each other again only this time it was deeper than before. His lips were strong but also were soft as a pillow. My eyes were wide open while his eyes were closed as we kissed.
My eyes began to shut not long after, I felt feeling enraptured by the moment. I felt one hand slithering onto my lower back while the other still held the back of my head. My arms wrapped around his neck as the kiss deepened.
Pulling away, I breathed heavily for some air as did he. We looked at each other, only instead of being surprised or confused, we were both relaxed and seemingly more captivated by each other.
" Are you sure you want this?", he asked me in a tone that almost seemed like a whisper.
I shook my head a yes to his question as I breathily said," Yes, I want this.", knowing what he meant. I have been wanting this for a while. For most of the time I was with Adrien, I desired to be closer to him as more than just a companion. In the ways that Adrien treated me before and while I was sick, I thought that he would feel the same way.
He gave me a nod before he gently pulled me in for another kiss. I heard myself make a small moan under the kiss as I felt Adrien's hands rub my sides. I began to feel his tongue move against my own. Rather than become shocked or disgusted, I rather enjoyed the moment more. I felt myself only desire him more. I felt something strange, something practically growing inside me, located in my lower body.
We stopped kissing once he sat himself up and got off the chaise lounge, still holding me in his arms as if I were his bride. My arms were still wrapped around his neck as he held me. I looked at him smiling, blushing, and made a small giggle for what was to happen next. He smiled back at me and made a small throaty laugh as he made his way to the bed.
He gently laid me down on the bed before crawling on top of me. I giggled a little again in response. I shut my eyes again as he leaned down and kissed me again. My arms wrapped around his waist as we made out. His arms were snaking themselves around me again. We were chest to chest at the moment but still left a small bit of space between our bodies for us to breathe.
After a few deep kisses, he pulled his head away a bit. I looked up at him with half-open eyes with my mouth slightly open. He then pulls his shirt over his head then tossed it to the side before leaning down again and kissed the corner of my chin, then my jawline, then down my neck. I could hear myself gently moaned at how he kissed my neck and chest.
He stopped for a moment and I lifted my head a little, curious to know what he was doing. I saw him pull the strings of my nightgown with his teeth. He then removed his arms from around my body, placed his hands on my shoulders, and slid my nightgown down. I didn't stop him or make a sign of discomfort as he was about to expose my chest, I didn't want to. I trusted him enough to allow him to do what he desired with me. But I could feel myself blush since I was still nervous.
He stopped once it reached to my hips. His lips made contact with my neck again, causing a soft moan to escape my lips and my eyes to shut again. Another moan escaped my lips when I felt them wrap around my nipple and tug on it.
My head went side to side after every few tugs and tongue rolls. I felt my body electrify with each passing second of it all.
He stopped after... Well, I am not sure how long really.  But it didn't matter, so long as Adrien kept going with whatever it is he had planned. I then felt his lips go down my body, from my breasts to my stomach. My eyes opened when I felt his lips leave me.
He was on his knees, staring down at me. I had no idea what he was about to do next. That was until he grabbed my nightgown again and I lifted my hips for him to remove it. Like his shirt, he tossed it to the side.
He then moved between my legs and slid them apart slightly. He leaned down. I tilted my head as he did this, wondering what he was about to do next.
Just when I was about to lift my head to see, my head immediately fell back of the pillow, gasping. I could feel a few or one of Adrien's fingers stroking the entrance of my once untouched womanhood. My eyes began to shut as I began moaning again.
I shiver runs down my spine as I felt his warm breath close to my entrance, I started to blush again. He lifted my legs enough to put them over his shoulders. My back arched along with my hips as I felt the tip of his tongue stroke my frills and folds. I could feel his hands grip my hips. My moaning was mixed with gasps as his mouth teased my senses. My grip on the sheets became tighter and tighter, my head went side to side. My breathy moans became louder as I could feel his tongue go deeper and faster.
Once his tongue stopped, my grip on the sheets loosened, my chest kept rising and falling from how heavy my breathing was, my body felt limp and weak; the energy in my body was practically drained from all of the excitement.
I opened my eyes and saw Adrien placing a gentle kiss on one of my inner thighs. He then slid my legs off of his shoulders before getting on his knees. He began to remove the two belts and tossed them aside before he did the same with his pants.
The blushing became a little darker seeing his completely now naked body. His muscular shape and his ivory-skinned body were gorgeous, the scar on his chest only added to its glory.
Adrien then crawled over me and looked into my eyes. He seemed unsure of what to do as he looked at me. I could feel that I had the same looked on my face as we looked into each other's eyes. I bit my bottom lip as I gave him a nod, permitting him to go on with this. He then positioned the tip of his manhood my entrance.
The moment had finally come, I was to finally lose my virtue to him or any man for that matter. I would no longer be as innocent as I was partially raised to be. I waited for his manhood to finally enter me for the first time.
When he entered me, the first thing I felt was not pleasure but great pain. I yelped and whimpered as I shut my eyes again with tears streaming from them. It felt as if I was being ripped in half from the inside.
I felt gentle lips press against my left cheek. Adrien's kiss gave me enough comfort to ignore the pain. I opened my eyes slightly and looked up at him.
Adrien's hands held mine and our fingers intertwined together. As his lips deeply kissed my own, his hips thrusted against mine. My whimpers were muffled as he moved his hips at a slow paste. It was all painful but I did not beg him to stop as the pain went on. Besides, the pain mellowed in pleasure not long after.
His lips pulled away from mine and all I could do was moan and gasp in pleasure. His hips slowly began to move at a slightly faster paste. My legs wrapped around his hips.
Warm sweat had been dripping from our bodies as time passed and as we continued our passionate moment. A few tears streamed from my eyes from the first joy of intimate pleasure I had ever felt.
___________________________________
Two hours later...
Adrien and I were still in bed but we only laid there. I laid my head on his chest and gas my hand placed on his chest, where I could feel his heart beating in a steady rhythm. His arm was wrapped around my waist, his hand was on top of mine.
" I didn't hurt you too badly have I?", I heard him ask.
" A little, but it was never your intent.", I told him with a smile," I rather enjoyed my first time with you.". I looked up at him with my chin on his chest.
He smiled back at me, seeming relieved with my statement." I'm glad. I guess I wasn't that bad for our first time."
I giggled a little before responding," No you weren't.".
A finger of his stroked a strand of hair from my face and tucked it behind my ear. He then held my cheek and I leaned into it.
" So, where do we go from here?", I asked him.
" I don't know, actually...", he responded as he laid his head on a pillow," To be honest, I never really thought of this happening. Not meeting you. I thought I just end up losing my mind alone here.".
Lifting myself a bit, I crawled over him and kissed his cheek." But you don't have to anymore. At least not alone...", he looked to me in the eyes as I spoke in a gentle tone and held his cheek," If you'll have me if you like.".
He took the wrist that belonged to the hand on his cheek in a gentle grip. He smiled at me and I could have sworn that I saw adoration in his gentle golden eyes.
" There is nothing I like more in this world. I love you, Cristine.", what he told me almost made me cry with happiness.
" I love you too, Adrien--".
" Stop, just 'Alucard' from now on. I do not wish to be referred to as my birth name.", he interrupted.
I nodded my head in response.
He then pulled me closer to him and kissed my lips. He then got on top of me again.

Chapter 10: Deaths and Desires (Part I)
Alucard
I stayed by Cristine's side that night, with my eyes wide open and my arms protectively around her. I couldn't help but think that Taka and Sumi would have done something else if the cyanide hadn't worked at all or fast enough. She still was asleep but was not in a peaceful sense. The corner of her lips was in a form of a frown, her hands were currently gripping my shirt, there were even some times where her head would be tossing and turning. I held her closer to my chest whenever it happened and would whisper to her some sweet reassuring words in her ear since it was the only thing that would calm her down.
My eyes widened with surprise when I felt her nuzzle my neck, I kept still as she did so. I didn't want to disrupt her sleep. I gently rubbed her back as she nuzzled my neck. Even though she was sick and despite how wrong it was, I couldn't help but adore her more from how close she was to me; how warm her body felt against my own. Although, the warmth could have been the reason behind her warmth so...
She began to whimper and squirm again, I pulled myself away a little to see her. Tears were streaming down her cheeks from her tightly shut eyes.
Just when I was about to comfort her more, I heard her murmur," No... Stop it... please...". I raised an eyebrow at her, becoming curious. I sat myself up with my back against the bed frame and held to my chest. She gripped my shirt even tighter as she kept dreaming of her nightmare. It was cruel of me to leave her like this.
" Cristine...", I said in a gentle but loud enough tone to wake her," Cristine, wake up. It's only a dream.".
" No! Stop!", she quaked as her body jolted into a sitting position as her eyes opened with fear. Her eyes shut again when she fell back onto my chest a pain-filled groan. I wrapped my arms around her again. I couldn't help but become more worried about her after hearing how she said those words, as she slept and woke up. I lifted her body to where her head was against my shoulder. My heart became heavy when I saw tears stream from her eyes again and her lips start to quiver. I gently placed a hand on her cheek and stroked some of her tears away. She leaned into my hand.
" Cristine...", I softly whispered then lightly kissed the blade of her nose which resulted in her opening her eyes," It's alright...". But the tears didn't stop, they just kept coming down from her eyes. Her arms wrapped around my neck and she cried into my neck. I wrapped my arms around her waist to embrace her.
Her body began to shake not long after, I could even feel breathing starting to shake. I gently rubbed her cheek against her head as she cried." It's alright... There is no need to cry.", I whispered in her ear in an attempt to soothe her. Seeing her like this made my heart ache and my mind forget any thought I had before. I couldn't stand her crying, I hated it. Which only made me further realize how much she meant to me, how much I was willing to comfort her to stop her from being so unhappy.
" I can't help it... It was horrible...", she managed to murmur between her tearful gasps.
" It was only a dream, Cristine.", I told her as I began to rub her back and stroke her hair," You have nothing to be afraid of.". Her panicking body slowly started to calm down. In my mind, I thought that my soothing had worked. But that was proven wrong when I felt her head shake in a way that meant "no".
" It was not a dream at all...", she breathed," It was a terrible memory."
" What was the memory?", I asked in a whisper as I repositioned her into a slightly more comfortable position. I had my arms still wrapped around her back while the other was under her knee, then I lifted her, straightened my legs, and placed her on my lap.
" Taka and Sumi...", hearing those names made me even more curious," They tried to...". She looked down and she gripped on my shirt tightly, from that and how she talked in her sleep I could tell how troublesome this memory was. Probably more than I would expect. But I couldn't push it, I wanted her to feel comfortable enough to tell me on her own. More tears streamed from her closed eyes again. I began to gently wipe her tears off her cheek with my thumb again. I kept going until she opened her sky blue eyes.
As I looked into her eyes, all I could do was see was innocence; the only kind of virtue would often see in a newborn child. Even as she cried I could only see her too pure for this mad world. Clearly, no one had told her what monsters were, the cruelty that people of all kinds were capable of.
I leaned my forehead against hers, it seemed to make her feel much better than before.
" Are you ready to tell me now?", I asked calmly.
She nodded her head a little.
" Alright, just tell me what you can.", I told her in a gentle tone as I held her closer to my chest, closing the small gap between us. She laid her head on my shoulder as I held her.
" Yesterday...before my seizure...", she murmured," They came to my room, they began asking me questions. The kinds I had no answers to."
" What were the questions?", I asked with the same gentle tone as before.
" They asked me how the fire back at the cottage started. I told them that it came out of nowhere.", she explained," They then began asking about you hiding something."
" Hiding something?", I question with a raised eyebrow," I kept nothing from either of them. I had nothing to hide."
" I told them that but that only made the situation worse and...", her breath began to shake before should she even finished her sentence. I became more concerned, wanting to know what else Taka and Sumi had done.
" What else happened, Cristine?", I asked her.
" I swore to them that I knew nothing, but they didn't accept my answer.", her breath shook again and her eyes began to water again," They told me that had alternate ways to get answers. I wanted to get away, but I was too weak to move... They held me down and... They-- they threatened to kill me if I made a noise. I tried to shut my eyes, I was too scared to even look at them any longer. They began to remove my nightgown, they started touching my skin, breathing close to me, and...". She began to break down completely, unable to finish. But she didn't have to, I could already tell what they were trying to do and it made my blood boil.
I let her cry into my shoulder and held her there. One arm was around her waist, my other was across her back with my hand holding the back of her head and my fingers sinking into her hair.
" Are you going to hurt them?", she whimpered.
I nodded my head a yes.
" Now?", she continued to whimper.
I nodded my head a yes again as I began to lay her back down. As I turned my head and about to get off the bed, I felt her weak grip on my wrist. I turned my head back to her.
" Please, don't go. Don't go yet.", she begged me," Just stay until I fall asleep.". Her eyes were full of fear as she begged like she was afraid of me leaving her unguarded or just being alone, or something else. Either way, I shouldn't leave her like this. So, naturally, I agreed with a nod. She then let my wrist go as I laid down beside her, patiently waiting for her to sleep.
___________________________________
Several hours later...
I immediately left Cristine's room as she fell asleep as I promised her. I searched for Taka and Sumi almost all over the castle since they weren't in their bedroom. They shouldn't go unpunished, not after what they tried to do with Cristine. With each passing second, I only became angrier.
Eventually, I found them in the library, searching through the bookcases for something. I watched them with anger in my eyes as I hid behind the open door. I just wanted to rush in there and rip their intestines and just fulfill my need to listen to their screams. But I could not do it, not yet anyway. I would even make too much of a ghastly mess in the library. The few places in the castle my mother treasured.
" Where is that damn book?", I heard Sumi say with irritation in her voice," It has to be in here somewhere."
" We just have to keep looking, Sumi.", Taka responded as he looked through the shelves with her," I am sure it is around here somewhere."
As they searched for whatever book they were looking for, I was thinking of the myriad amount of punishments or at the least kill them... But I think I will just start with one of them and have the other one watch. The only other on my mind other than the thoughts of punishments was how to be sure they are where I want them. The dungeons here.
I left the door once I saw them gave up whatever book they were looking for. But I still kept watching from afar, behind one of the pillars. My eyes narrowed at the two as they exited from the library.
" Let's just get to bed, Sumi. We can look again tomorrow.", Taka yawned.
His eyelids were visibly heavy, his facial expression almost seemed blank, his body seemed so unbalanced and limp he looked as though he was about to fall any second now. But I did not care, he was getting no sympathies from me.
Sumi looked to Taka with irritation at first then sighed as if to say "I give up".
" Fine, we will look again tomorrow.", she responded.
As soon as they left, I followed them close by without detection.
___________________________________
The next day...
After I "took care" of Taka and Sumi, I was preparing a special elixir that would purge the cyanide in Cristine to heal her. It wasn't an easy recipe, but I managed... I hope.
Once it was done, I carefully filled a glass bottle with it since it was enough for one person. I also had to bring a bucket for, well... Something putrid, I don't like to think of it. Not long after I prepared, I walked directly to Cristine's room with those things. She was likely still asleep.
As I made my way to her room, I began to think about what I had done to Taka and Sumi last night. I began to wonder what would have happened if it was different if they hadn't tried such terrible actions...
No, there was no other way, there can't be. They made their choice, they paid the price for it. I shouldn't be wondering what would have happened otherwise.
When I got to Cristine's door, I gave it three gentle knocks. I entered the room when I heard her say," Come in, Adrien.".
" How did you know it was me?", I asked after entering her room.
" Back when I still lived in the cottage, you would knock on my door three times.", she answered in a tired tone as I walked over to her," Funny... I didn't realize that until now.". She was laying on her side, curled into a ball.
I knelt in front of her after I placed the elixir and the bucket on the side table. I placed a hand on her cheek as I asked her," How do you feel?".
" Not any worse than yesterday.", she answered," But not any better either.".
I gently stroked under her eye with my thumb as I told her," I have something to fix that?".
" Really? You do?", she asked in a still tired but hopeful tone.
I nodded my head.
She managed to lift herself a little. To help her, I placed a hand behind her back to help her get into a sitting position. Her back was now against the bed frame, her head was towards my direction.
I picked up the bucket and placed it on her lap. She looked down at it with a confused expression." What's this for?", she asked.
" The vomit.", I told her as I grabbed the elixir and began to remove the cork.
" The vomit?", she repeated in a form of a question. She was confused but wasn't hard to understand why.
" This elixir, here.", I began to explain as I held it in front of her," Will purge the cyanide that has been making you sick. But for it to have the cyanide out of you completely, it needs to exit your body by vomit. I know that it's unpleasant, but it will work and you feel better in no time.".
She nodded her head in response.
Just before I was about to have her drink it, I warned her," I read that this would taste bitter than rotten fruit, but you must drink the whole vile for it to work. So, don't cough it up.".
She nodded her head in response.
I then gently pressed the bottle against her lips to make it easier for her to drink it. She visibly made a face of disgust as the liquid entered her mouth.
When the bottle was only half empty, I held the back of her neck as she began to struggle against it. She looked as though she would cough it up at any moment.
" Remember what I said, Cristine. Don't cough it up.", I told her in a gentle tone," Then it won't work.".
Thankfully, she didn't cough it the rest of the way down. I removed the bottle from the lips as soon as it was emptied.
As expected, her body moved forward and she began to vomit. I held her hair back as the process went on. She gasped for air after each few vomits of bitter greyish-white liquid.
After only fifteen seconds of this, she finally stopped. I let her hair go and removed the bucket from her bed. She laid back and breathed heavily.
I looked back at her and saw that her body was beginning to get better already. Her sickly skin was going back to a healthier shade, she was breathing easier than before, and didn't seem as weak as before.
" Feel better?", I asked her.
" Than before.", she responded between breaths. I smiled a little after hearing that.
" I'm glad that you are.", I told her. She smiled up at me then lifted herself on her own. I offered her a hand to help her out of the bed and she took it. I then escorted her out of the rooms and led her to the bathroom for her to bathe. I gave her some time to freshen up while went to the kitchen to make us both some food.
___________________________________
Two days later...
As time passed, Cristine and I didn't talk as often as we used to. She seemed to have been keeping her distance. However, even though I was saddened by this, I never questioned her about it. I felt like she still needed some time to be alone after all that has happened. The trauma of almost being raped was a very harsh thing to have.
I was currently laying on my chaise lounge, reading one of my favorite books. But I sighed with dissatisfaction and laid my head back, shutting my eyes. I carelessly dropped the book, thinking of what to do.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
My eyes shot wide open when I heard the knocking. I sat up straight as I heard the door open. Christine was standing by the door. She was wearing her nightgown, her dark auburn hair was down. I saw her look down at her fingers twitching together, one of the things she did when she was nervous. She then looked at me like she was about to say something.
" What's wrong?", I asked but she did not answer. She walked over to the chaise lounge and stood by me. I said nothing and looked up at her. She then managed to find a spot to sit herself down before crawling over me. Still, I said nothing.
I tilted my head a little as I observed her facial expression. Her pink lips were only slightly separate enough to see that her teeth were still closed together, her eyes were wide with curiosity and uncertainty. I couldn't tell what was on her mind at this moment until she leaned forward and pressed her lips against my own.

Chapter 9: Restrained Confessions
Narration
It was currently dark outside, but no one was asleep. Cristine became paranoid after what happened; which didn't help with her sickness, Alucard had canceled that day's training for Taka and Sumi after what had happened, and Taka and Sumi were discussing an alternative way to handle the two hosts.
___________________________
Cristine remained in her room, wide awake when she was told to sleep. But how could she after today? She was almost raped by the two people she began to enjoy knowing. Her mind was racing with many thoughts: "Why didn't she trust her instincts when they tried to warn her? Why did she trust Sumi and Taka's words for anything?... Why didn't she tell Alucard what had happened when she had the chance?"
Who knows what would have happened if she did. Would he deny? Would he not? It was no doubt that the two guests would deny it.
She wished that she told him at that moment he held her close, so safe and secure. She felt so powerless the moment Taka and Sumi were above her. Vulnerable. Frightened. Speechless. Every emotion anyone would feel if they were in her position at that moment.
Tears rolled from her eyes as she turned to lay on her side. She whimpered from the memory of what had almost happened to her. She tightly gripped the sheets that were currently over her body and curled into a ball, holding her legs against her chest with her free arm.
Cristine shut her eyes again and shivered when she heard the door open, fearing that it would be Taka or Sumi. Slow but somehow light footsteps approached her, causing her to shiver harder. She stopped when she felt a gentle and familiar hand placed on her shoulder. She slightly opened her eyelids and looked up. She was relieved for it to be only Alucard.
He looked down with a soft expression and held a bowl of what appears to be soup." I brought you dinner.", he told her.
" Did-... Did they take part in making it?", she stuttered to ask, referring to the only other two people in the castle.
" Neither of them did, I made this myself.", he answered her. Although he was curious to ask why she would be concerned if the two apprentices were involved, he didn't push it since she was under a lot of stress and sick.
She nods her head slightly in approval then attempts to sit up, she winced in pain as she did. Alucard set the soup aside and assisted her into a sitting position." Thank you, Adrien.", she told him.
He gives her a nod in response.
After seeing she still lacked the strength to move, Alucard had begun to feed her. He had fed her slowly so she wouldn't choke on her food or made a mess of herself. But after only a few bites, she end throwing it up into the bowl. His eyes widened with surprise from what had just happened. She then began coughing up a bit. Alucard set the now tarnished soup aside to lay her down to be more comfortable.
Cristine looked up at him with tired eyes when she stopped finally coughing." I'm sorry... My stomach is just hasn't been feeling right since I became sick.", she explained to him.
" It's alright, it's not your fault.", he told her with his sweetest smile then gently stroking her cheek. Cristine smiled back up at him while weakly lifting her arm to grip the hand that was placed on her cheek.
He removed his hand and sat beside her. His eyes left her direction for a moment as his smile then disappeared. He was looking at the spot he saw Taka earlier when Cristine had her seizure, thinking of what Sumi had told her. When his eyes returned to Cristine, she looked at that same spot too but was visibly more troubled and conflicted.
" What's wrong?", he asked her.
" I... I can't.", she said in a small tone of voice. She wanted to say it to him, she wanted to admit to what happened. She just didn't know how to say it or how he would respond. She didn't even look at him as she said it.
" Why?", he continued to ask, only wanting to know what was wrong with her.
She shook her head then responded in the same tone of voice as before," I don't want to talk about it... I'm afraid..."
" Afraid of what, Cristine?", he asked further," Tell me, what is wrong?". But she shook her head again.
" I can't...", she refused again.
" Yes, you can. Just tell me, please.", he begged in a voice that gave out his deepest sincerity. She looked up at him and saw it in his eyes. He immediately picked her up and held her close the moment her tears began to show. He had her head against his shoulder to cry on, his arms wrapped around her body to support her from falling to the side with the sickness keeping her maintaining balance. " Shh...shh... Cristine, it's alright. Take the time you need. I'll wait for when you are ready.", he whispered to her. One of his hands was now holding the back of her head and stroking it with his thumb.
After a short while, her cries mellowed down enough for her to speak. " Taka...", she began in a whisper," And Sumi tried to...". She stopped again when her tears start returning.
Alucard pulled away for a moment and held both sides of her face. Only a few tears were currently streaming from her face. Her eyes were looking down from him. He stroked one tear from her left cheek with his thumb." Cristine...", he whispered to get her attention," It's alright, I promise you that whatever happened to you, I will fix or at least make it easier for you. You have nothing to be afraid of, not while I'm around.".
She tilted her head to the side a little, leaning into one of his hands. " Would you like to tell me later?", he asked her. She shut her eyes for a small moment then nodded.
" Alright, I will wait for when you are ready.", he told her softly. He then kissed her head again and they just embraced each other.
___________________________
An hour and a half later...
Alucard was in the library trying to figure out what the white powder from earlier was. He'd ask Taka or Sumi, but a small part of him thought that there was something strange about them and this powder had something to do with it and it wasn't for any good intentions. He searched through the books and so far he didn't find anything.
He was leaning over the table with his hands as support while reading the pages of the books below him. He focused on every word that was written down.
He was so focused on the pages, he didn't even bother noticing the two people walking through the door. Not until he felt one of their hands on his left shoulder. He turns his head towards the person who owns that hand and saw Taka with a calm expression with his eyelids half-closed but not in the sense that meant he was tired. He looked towards his other shoulder to see if Sumi was there, and she was with the same unreadable facial expression.
" What are you two doing up this late?", he asked with his eyebrow slightly raised since it was almost midnight.
" You've been so busy lately.", Taka explained as he pushes the books aside," We thought you could use a break.".
Just when Alucard was about to grab the books, Sumi grabbed his hand by the wrist. When he looked at her, she was smiling up at him." Come now, Alucard you should relax.", Sumi tells him with a honeyed tone of voice as they both push him down the table," You deserve some quality time."
Just when Sumi leaned in to kiss him, Alucard stopped her by having one of his hands in front of his face. He then gently pushed her face away and gave them a serious look as he stood up. He said," I would prefer it if neither of you attempted that."
Taka then held Alucard's chin with his thumb and index finger, turning the dhampir's head in his direction. He contained the same smile as Sumi's was before." Come now, you've done so much for us. You should be rewarded.", he said before Alucard tugged his face away from Taka's hand.
" You can do that without being physical with me.", Alucard sternly stated as he walked to the other side of the table, picking up the books that Taka pushed away with no care.
" Besides, you two have each other. You can be physical all you want. Just leave me out of it.", he then added as he stood up and was about to walk to the door.
The two looked at each other with confusion then back to Alucard." Where are you going?", Taka asked Alucard, who was just about to exit the room.
" To room where I can research in peace.", he responded, not referring to his bedroom. He figured that they would possibly try again there.
" Why? What's your problem?", Sumi added to the questions. Sighing in annoyance, Alucard turned his head towards them with a half angry and half bored look on his face.
" My friend is sick and has become paranoid for almost a week now, for reasons she refused to tell. She hasn't gotten any better. I am trying to figure it out before she likely dies. So what the Hell do think my problem is?!", he ranted at them. His nails became sharper, his golden eyes began to dimly glow, he was getting angry. Which was something he normally wouldn't do. It would have almost been strange for anyone who knew him well.
" Why help her if she refuses to let you?", Sumi questioned. Alucard rolled his eyes and tapped the book with his fingers, visibly showing that he was getting impatient.
" Why waste time for someone like that?", Taka then added; resulting in Alucard becoming more impatient with them," It's not like you love her--"
" Yes, I do!", he thundered, silencing Taka before he could say more. Both Taka and Sumi looked at him with wide eyes and in silence.
" You both heard me: I love her.", he continued his eyes still narrowing at them," More than either of you could ever imagine. More than I ever thought I could dream."
" How-- How can you?", Sumi asked him, confused by this harsher and uncalm side of him then stated," You have only known each other for about a month now."
Alucard looked away, feeling much calmer than before. His angered facial expression changed into a soft one, something he rarely showed to people.
" From what I learned from all this time", he began in a softer tone before turning back to the two with a more stern look on his face," is that days in isolation will feel like years to anybody. That's how Taka.". He then left them both in silence, not even telling them a good night, not like they deserved one after what they tried to do......and what they could have done.
___________________________
Alucard paced to Cristine's bedroom, wanting to be close by her and to research quietly.
Christine wakes up from her deep slumber once she heard the door open. She squinted her eyes from how tired she was and how the moonlight coming from the window was bright enough to light the room. Even though her vision was blurry, she still recognized the person at her door.
" Adrien?", she groaned as she used her arm for support to lift herself," What is wrong?"
" Nothing", he answered as he entered the room and shut the door. He then walked over to the other side of her bed and placed the books on the side table. Cristine's head followed his direction to see what he was doing.
" I just wanted to avoid our two guests.", he then finished as he walked towards the chair and sat down. He looked out the window with the same annoyance he had before, not directed at her. He had his arms crossed as he leaned back on the chair and deeply sighed.
" What happened?", she asked him, tilting her head a little.
He didn't answer her, at least not at that minute. Remained silent for the time being. After shutting his eye along with a much calmer sigh, he turned to her and opened his eyes as he responded with," Best not to worry about it, Cristine. I promise you that it is nothing. Just rest your head, you need your rest."
Although she doubted his response, she still nodded and laid back down to sleep, trusting his words as she often did. She laid her head on her pillow then closed her eyes, falling back to her dreamless sleep almost instantly.
Alucard then turned away from her, staring back out the window. But as he did, couldn't help but think about turning back her direction, to look at her sleeping form at least once. He tried to think of something else since would have been wrong to look at her while she slept.
His eyes then led his direction back to her, feeling that there was no harm doing it once. His usually emotionless facial expression practically vanished and turned into one with awe. He couldn't help but stare at the small yet peacefully sleeping woman in the bed.
The small moonlight shined on her snowy pale skin making it practically glow, her long lashes touched her rosy cheeks, her soft; long dark auburn hair draped over half her body. She looked as innocent as a child while she slept. He couldn't help but think of this," So beautiful, so pure". With the desire to touch her, he carefully got off the chair and quietly walked over towards her. He knelt in front of her. He lifted his right hand while the left one rested on the knee that touched the ground. He then allowed the back of his fingers to gently stroke her cheek while also pressing a strand of hair away from her face and tucking it behind her ear.
A small smile formed from the sleeping woman's pink lips and made his heart flutter. He couldn't help but smile at the results. He felt like could see this for hours if not days.
Shaking his head back to reality, his smile then leaves him and he turned from her again. He took one of the books he brought to the room and sat down back on the chair to look for more information on the white powder he found as a distraction.
He kept on looking for a long amount of time and found nothing so far. That was until one page caught his attention.
" Cyanide,", it was written," a very toxic white powder that has a bitter almond-like odor, but not always. It can be exposed by breathing it, drinking it, touching it, or eating it. Can be extremely deadly depending on how much is exposed. Symptoms may include dizziness, fatigue, body sores, headaches, nausea, loss of consciousness...". He stopped before even finishing the list of symptoms.
He looked towards Cristine with worry, noticing that these symptoms match hers. Remembering how strange everyone's behaviors were, he added the pieces together and realized what was going on.
" Taka and Sumi...", he muttered to himself to not wake Cristine," They are behind this... But why?". He closed the book then sets it aside. He got off his chair then walked towards the bed, looking down at Cristine with gentle sorrow. He lifted his hand and gently stroked her cheek with his knuckles, with the feeling of guilt for not seeing this sooner.

Chapter 8: A Little More Than Under the Weather
Narrator
Alucard was sitting on the edge of the supposedly sleeping Cristine's bed. The first thing he did when he saw Cristine on the ground last night was rushing her back to her bed to be comfortable.
Her skin was much paler and sickly, it hurt her every time she moved her body, sweat was dripping from her skin, her body was getting warmer, she could hardly keep her eyes open; with her long lashes, he could not tell if she was awake or not. He had a cold, damp rag placed on her forehead so she wouldn't be too hot.
He couldn't understand how she became so sick, yesterday she seemed completely healthy. He knew it couldn't have been food poisoning. He created that soup many times before all of this. As far as he knew, no one became sick.
She groaned as she turned her head to the side. Alucard gently brushed the back of his fingers against her cheek to comfort her.
___________________________________
Taka looked through the door's keyhole to see it. Sumi was right beside her, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed." So it worked?", she asked.
Taka turns his head to her and nods.
"Good, if Alucard remains not knowing, she will be gone within two days.", she says then leans forward to properly stand then starts walking to the door to wait for Alucard. Taka got up and followed her close by.
" Is this truly necessary, Sumi?", he asked," What we are doing to her, I mean. After all, so far she didn't keep anything from us, unlike Alucard. She knows very little of this place. Also, she doesn't seem like the type to hurt a fly."
" It is necessary, Taka. We let her live and if we do succeed with what we must do, she'll become suspicious and possibly find a way to end us too if she figured it out.", she told him," Besides, she could be hiding something too. Looks can be deceiving."
Taka raised an eyebrow at her from the statement." What makes you say that she's deceiving us too?", he asked her.
" Think about it: Remember when she said told us about her home being destroyed?", she continued.
" Yes,", he nodded and answered," She said that her windows shattered and a fire began out of nowhere."
" Fire doesn't just start from out of nowhere and glass cannot break on its own.", Sumi continued," She might not even be human, at least not completely."
" I suppose so, at least it will end painlessly for her.", he finished as they entered the main hall. They both waited for Alucard, figuring that he was still with Cristine.
As a whole lot of waiting in silence has passed, they both were growing restless by the passing minute. Taka looked at Sumi, who was sitting against the wall while he stood. He thought this for a while ever since she suggested poisoning Cristine." You honestly don't care do you?", he started.
Sumi looked up at him, oblivious to what he meant." Don't care about what?", she asked.
" About what you did to her.", he explained," You seemed very intrigued by her when we met her, wanting to spend time with her and all. Yet you are the one to poison her. You even seemed careless when you suggested it."
" I do care, I care that she would not have to end in a gruesome way.", Sumi said in a flat tone. Taka's eyes widened in surprise from she explained it so casually. He didn't mind Alucard, but he saw Cristine as a truly innocent soul. For all he knew, she was practically just another student to Alucard. Not by combat, but through knowledge.
" I was interested in making friends with her at first, that is true. But as I got to know her through these past couple of days, she told me the various strange things that would happen to her before she met Alucard. Things that are not human.", she told him. Taka went over and sat by her. One leg was stretched out, while the other was almost up to his cast and his left arm was resting on top of it.
" Like?", he asked her.
" When she was an infant, a crow came to her side and nudge her gently with its head only it did in a way that a mother would stroke her child's cheek. When her father came with some kind of shiny object, then the crow screeched and attacked him with its beak until he was blind.", she explained to him.
" Really?", he said in disbelief," A crow protecting a human child?". Sumi nodded her head." What else?", he asked her.
" Once when she was seven and her sister was thirteen, she and her sister were arguing which led to them fighting physically. Her sister had her pinned to the ground. Cristine pushed her away with all the strength she had. Her eyes were shut at the time when she opened them. Her sister was high up a tree, hanging to a branch for dear life.", she continued.
Taka almost laughed, finding the story a bit amusing. That was until Sumi hit his stomach to stop him. He groaned from how hard she hit and rubbed her stomach. When he looked at her, she had an unamused expression on her face." Do finish.", he responded.
" Besides, Cristine and Alucard are too close for them not to be suspicious if one of them was dead. She told me how much time they spent together before she lived with him, what they would do and what they would talk about.", she told him. He nods his head a little, almost believing that she made a good point.
"Besides, they have too much in common with each other: Both are smart but clueless from how harsh the world is, they are too naïve to know they shouldn't keep people too close due to having the lack of company for so long, they both enjoy art and literature, I bet neither of them even been touched.", Sumi then finished with her long explanation.
" I suppose it is better for her.", he shrugged but still felt uneasy about it," After all, it isn't uncommon for people to die of any form of sickness."
That was true, people died of diseases every day. Either from people trusting the Church too much that they believed anyone with a functioning brain was a witch, they didn't take proper care of themselves, or they lived in poor conditions. So, it wouldn't have been too surprising.
" Although, you are right about the fire... Do you think she did it herself?", Taka asked her.
" It's likely.", Sumi responded.
" Let's ask her, I'm sure she wouldn't mind so much.", he says then began to walk back to Cristine's room.
__________________________________
Meanwhile,
Alucard was still in the same position as before, practically forgetting that he had to train Sumi and Taka.
Cristine groaned as she turned her head towards her friend. Her blue eyes were slightly open. When she saw him, she gave him a weak smile.
He attempted to smile back at her, not wanting to be rude or insensitive. But it wasn't too difficult since he was partially glad that she was still conscious." Hello, there.", he greeted her.
" Hello.", she weakly greeted him back in a soft but scratchy voice then jokingly asked," How are you this fine day?".
" Not too well, but the day had only begun.", he answered her. He may have been in good health but his mood was not. He was too worried and upset to say otherwise, he couldn't even lie to her about it. But he had to keep his answers at least a bit positive for her, he didn't want her to worry about him." You?", he asked, he knew she was sick with something but he didn't know what he only asked in hopes that she was at least feeling slightly better.
" Not too well either...", his heart became a little heavy after hearing her answer," But I am still here." She smiled a little more during her second sentence.
" I can see that... And I'm glad that you still are.", he told her truthfully.
She moved a little but groaned and winced in pain from her efforts.
Alucard quickly assisted her into a more comfortable position. He then lifted her head with a careful hand.
When he laid her back down he asked," Do you need anything?". She shook her head a no, still holding a weak smile on her face.
" Not even water?", he continued. As before, she shook her head a no again," What about food?".
" Maybe a bit of water then.", she tells him. He nods then got off the bed and left the room to retrieve some water. She remained in bed, waiting for him to return.
After a short minute, Sumi and Taka enter the room. Cristine looked over to them a greeted them with the same weak smile as before as she said," Hello, Sumi and Taka. What brings you both here?".
" We heard you were sick.", Taka responded casually. They both approached with an unmoved expression. Cristine then stopped smiling and felt a little uneasy. Sumi sat by Cristine, Taka stood by them.
" Is something wrong?", she asked them.
" No, no just wanted to check on you.", Taka said, his expression almost did seem slightly more concerned rather than blank as before and what Sumi's was currently. But that didn't make Cristine feel any better. The bad, uneasy feeling from all those times before had returned to her. She was becoming worried but didn't understand why, like always; she kept a calm and sweet composure even though she was in a very sickly state.
" Also, to ask a few questions.", Sumi added," If you do not mind."
" I don't mind, ask away.", she told them.
" How did the fire start?", she asked Cristine with her head tilting towards her left shoulder.
" Fire? What fire?", Cristine asked, wanting an explanation to what she meant by "the fire".
" The fire from the cabin.", Sumi explained to her.
" That one? I already told you. It came out of nowhere.", she told them with the feeling of confusion from why Sumi asked.
" We doubt that Cristine.", she looked towards Taka's direction when she heard him say that," Fire cannot start from nothing. Was it you? Alucard?".
" What? I don't under-"
" Answer the question, girl!", Sumi interrupted with an aggressive tone of voice. Cristine looked at her in a mixture of shock and worry from what Sumi said in an unfamiliar harsh tone.
" I don't know, I swear.", she answered them truthfully," And it couldn't have been from Adrien. He can not do that kind of magic."
" Then what is he hiding?!", Taka then demanded," We know that he is keeping secrets here."
" What secrets? He has kept nothing from either of you.", she panicked, unable to understand why they are asking these questions that she knows nothing of.
" I swear to you both, I don't know.", she said in a soft tone with much sincerity.
Neither of the two was pleased with her answer. She could tell from the look of disappointment on their faces.
Cristine's heart rate slowly began to go faster with its pulse. Sumi went to the other side of the bed while Taka took her place." What are you doing?", Cristine asked as she began to tightly clench on the covers that were over her.
" Shh...", Taka shushed her. He pulls out a small vile containing a strange, white substance that Cristine couldn't tell if it was solid or liquid.
"As we said before: we just wanted to ask a few questions. But you are not giving us the proper answers.", Sumi said in a much more calm but unsettling tone.
" But we have alternate ways to get the answers.", Taka finished for her with an equally calm and unsettling tone.
Cristine's weak eyelids widened with fear, her heart raced rapidly; pounding hard against her chest like a sledgehammer to a wall.
She attempted to crawl away as they got closer, but was too physically weak and sore to move even an inch.
She whimpered as Sumi placed a hand on her mouth. Taka ripped the sheets off of her and out of her grasp." Not a sound, not if you still want that pretty heart of yours beating.", Taka threatened in a whisper. Her eyes watered in response to his words. She held herself and shut her eyes tightly, fearing the sight of two now. She shivered with horror as she felt one of them touched any of her exposed skin with their hand and small, warm breathes. She felt another hand untying the strings that held the front of her nightgown together.

Alucard was just about to return to Cristine with some water, that was until he heard two loud crashes in her room. He teleported there to see what was wrong. When he opened the door, he saw Taka against the wall on his knees with blood coming from his mouth and nose. Sumi was quickly crawling to Cristine, who was currently having a seizure. Her body was shaking violently and rapidly. Sumi looked at Alucard, unsure of what to do.
Alucard immediately dropped the glass water in his hand and dashed to her side. The moment the glass touched the ground, it shattered into many sharp pieces. He moved Sumi aside but not harshly to sit behind Cristine. He had her lay on her side and held her hand." It's alright, Cristine. You'll be okay.", he whispered things like that to her so she knew that she was being cared for.
After a minute or two, her body finally relaxed. Alucard pulled her closer to his chest and hugged her. He felt more relieved when she hugged him back. He looked to Taka, who was now standing and cleaning the blood off his face.
" What happened to you?", Alucard asked.
Taka stayed silent for a moment, trying to think of an answer.
Christine kept silent about what happened. Not because she was afraid of what would happen, she just didn't want to think of it.
" We wanted to see if Cristine was okay, but she began to violently shake. We didn't know what to do then Taka got hit then fell. He was only using the wall for support.", Sumi covered for him. Alucard looked at her with naturally calm and emotionless composure. He doubted Sumi's story a bit, but he accepted the answer.
" Perhaps later I will teach you two about seizures and such.", he told them. He rubbed Cristine's back in small circles. When he was about to let her go, she only tightened her arms around him.
" Don't.", she whispered to him.
" 'Don't' what?", he asked her in a gentle tone.
Her eyes were tightly closed as she held him. She feared to see Taka and Sumi again. She felt protected in Alucard's arms, who now is the only one in the castle she could ever trust, possibly even the world.
Alucard's arms returned to embrace her when he felt her warm tears on his shoulder.
He looked at Sumi and said," There are some bandages in the library. Father kept them there when he taught my mother about medicine. You can use those to help Taka.". Sumi nodded then got off the bed.
He watched them both leave the room and noticed that both of them were limping rather than just Taka. But he ignored that for now and looked down at the crying woman. He gently tugged her face away from his shoulder and held her cheek. He gave her a pitied look when he saw tears still streaming from her eyes. He said nothing then leaned forward to kiss her head. As he did that he noticed a small vile of what appears to be white powder on the ground.

Chapter 7: The Night Before
Cristine
While Adrien taught Taka and Sumi combat and the anatomy of vampires, I remained in the library. I read various books on science, philosophy, and cultures. I found every one of them quite fascinating.
When I closed the book and began to put them away. When I look up the window, I then discover that it was nightfall." Have I been reading for that long?", I wondered," I need to start keeping track of time."
When I was done and about to leave, I saw Sumi at the door, holding two bowls of what appears to be soup. She smiled at me and said," I brought your dinner.". I smiled back at her and went over to him.
When I was in front of her, I took the soup she gave me and smelled its aroma." It looks delicious.", I complimented. I then was about to walk out to eat in a dining room until Sumi stopped me by holding her out slightly in front of me. I looked at her a bit confused." I thought we could eat alone tonight... Taka and Alucard don't mind.", she explained.
I nodded and respond in a gentle tone," Okay." I was a little nervous about how she said it. She kept her smile but her voice was flat and indifferent like there was something else on her mind. I decided not to think of it and went to the table to eat with her.
She sat at the end of the table, I sat at one of the sides of it. There was an awkward silence between us. Looked down at the soup and tried it. It contained carrots, deer meat, potato, and onion. It didn't have a lot of flavors but it was still delicious to me.
" How are you, Cristine?", I heard Sumi ask. I looked at her. Her smile was no longer on her face, all it was a calm and unmoved expression.
" It was quite alright.", I told her, trying to smile to be polite," How was yours?"
" It was good.", she answered. She nodded her head. I turned my head away from her again.
" How is he?", she asked as if she was about to laugh. I turned to her and found her grinning. I blushed and almost laughed, knowing who she meant by "he", but wasn't sure entirely what she was asking.
" Why do you ask?", I asked her, curious to know what she was meaning.
" You both seem very close. A little more than friends from what I can tell.", she replied. I looked down with a shy smile on my face.
" Oh... We are nothing more than friends.", I told her," We never really... Exchanged any hints for any romantic interest.". I wasn't entirely sure if what I answered was true. After all, he did kiss me that night even though it was on my forehead, he did hold me close the night before my home was attacked by those priests. But in truth, I didn't know what an actual romantic exchange would be like. I was never taught and the closest thing I can get to what knowing romances are like is whenever I read a book on that subject. The smile then left my face, what was left was a small frown." Sure would be nice.", I thought to myself.
" So, what have you been reading?", heard her ask. I looked back over to her again.
" Oh, just some books on science and philosophy. They're quite fascinating.", I answered her.
" Really? Mind showing me some of it?", she asked. It was strange of her to ask since she didn't seem like the type of books, but I shouldn't judge.
" Alright, one moment.", I smiled then got off my chair then walked away and searched through the bookcases for those books I read.
When I finished searching after a minute or so, I find her out of her and she looked at me like she did something wrong." Something wrong, Sumi?", I asked her, tilting my head a little to my left shoulder.
" I was just stretching my legs.", she told me. I wasn't sure if that was entirely true. She still had that strange worried look on her face.
" Alright...?", I responded in suspicion as I placed the books on the table. For the next hour, we were eating while I also shared some of the knowledge of these books.
But I couldn't help but notice as we are that the soup tasted a little different than before. A little more saltier and even a little spicy.
___________________________________
As I got myself ready for bed, I felt rather strange. My head began to feel light and my body was feeling rather heavy. I thought it was only my body growing tired. I walked to the bed, laid myself down, and pulled the sheets over me. I laid on my side to get comfortable then fell asleep.
After a few hours, I woke up, my body was in complete pain. I used what strength I had to sit up, using my right arm as support. I began to breathe rapidly. My lungs felt like they were burning as if though I ran for miles nonstop.
My first thought was to get to Adrien, he would know what to do about this, at least I hope he does.
I pulled the sheets off of me and got out of the bed. I was losing balance so I had to use the wall and furniture for support. I struggled as I walked to the door. I felt as if though I were gonna fall over any minute. With each step I took, my body began growing weaker and weaker. I could feel cold sweat dripping from my head.
When I opened the door, I held onto the handle so I wouldn't have fallen to the ground.
Now that I was in the hall, I had to use the walls as support to get to Adrien's bedroom. As I walked to his room, my head began to grow heavy along with my eyes. I kept on walking to his bedroom. I saw his bedroom door and called out," Adrien... Adrien...". My voice somehow wasn't very loud and my throat felt sore.
I was getting dizzy and I fell to the hard ground." Adrien!", I called out," Adrien, I need you.". My vision was blurry, my eyelids were closing, my body was both exhausted and in pain.
The last thing I heard was a door faintly opening and my calling out one final time in a whisper," Adrien...". The last thing I saw was a silhouette of someone rushing over to me then picking me up off the ground.
Not long after, my eyes completely closed and I was no longer conscious.

Chapter 6: Unable to Sleep (Part II)
Alucard
For seemingly endless hours, I have been tossing and turning. My eyes just refused to keep close for me to even try sleeping. I don't even know why I can not get to sleep.
" Why won't you sleep, you damned idiot?", I asked myself. I sighed out of self annoyance and irritation.
"Was it the bed making me uncomfortable?", I wondered," If so, has it because I have gotten used to sleeping in a coffin for so long before all this?"
I continued to toss and turn, desperate to get comfortable enough to shut my eyes and sleep.
Not long after that, I hear footsteps pacing past my door. I ignored it, thinking that it was just my imagination. I tried to sleep again but still failed. I got off my bed and decided to occupy myself with a book by my unlit fireplace.
After a short while, I heard footsteps pass by my door again. Instead of shrugging it off and ignoring it, I decided to see who or what it was this time. That was after I set my book aside and got my pants on since I didn't want too much exposure like my first encounter with Trevor.
I walked to the door and opened it. I turned my head to the right where I heard the footsteps and saw the back of someone with long, wavy dark auburn hair and wearing what appears to be a maroon-colored robe that looked almost like my mother's when she lived here and was still alive.
My first was that it was Cristine, but I had to be sure it was her. I quickly but quietly paced behind the red-headed figure until I grabbed her shoulder. She gasped in a way that made it sound like she would have shrieked.
When she turned, my thoughts were correct on it being Cristine. She placed a hand on her chest and took a breath." You scared me.", she said with her lips almost forming a smile.
" I apologize for doing so.", I told her while smiling back," I was just wondering who was wandering the halls.". Almost half of her long auburn hair draped over her shoulder, the maroon robe and white nightgown she had on exposed a bit of her chest while looking tight and comfortable at the same time. Rather than being a little upset that she wore my mother's robe, I couldn't help but find her rather adorable in it.
" You had trouble sleeping too, didn't you?", she asked. I probably looked like a bit of a mess to her for her to ask me that, or maybe because of how I am still awake at this time when I should be sleeping, or probably both of those things.
I shrugged my shoulders a little as I casually said while smiling," How did you guess?". She didn't respond to that. I never meant it in a sarcastic sense, even though that's how people would usually use that phrase, or so I was told.
" What kept you being unable to sleep on a lovely night like this?", I asked her out of curiosity.
" I-", she began but stopped for some strange or upsetting reason, and when her smile disappeared. My expression softened into a slightly more concerned one, thinking it was something upsetting. I waited for her to finish.
I dreamt of my mother.", she answered with a sad expression," Before the Church had come and before my sister had left.". I began to feel bad for asking since she didn't seem happy mentioning it.
"Oh...", I responded, not wanting to be silent," Was it a good dream?". I didn't know why I asked, but I couldn't help it. Part of me wanted to help her heal whatever was hurting her in any way. I didn't even know why since me and her only known each other for almost a month now.
"It was lovely.", she told me as she lifted her head until we made eye contact. I then looked back at him. That was good at least. I was relieved to know that the dream wasn't a traumatizing one.
" How about you Adrien?," she continued," What kept you up this night?".
" I just couldn't shut my eyes or at the very least keeping them shut.", I answered with nothing but the truth.
" Hm... I can understand that.", she replied. I almost raised an eyebrow to that since I didn't think I was not the only one who would have the same trouble. Not that I would assume, I just never met anyone who has." So, what were you doing in the halls, anyway?", I asked her since that was why I came out of my room in the first place.
" I was just taking a small stroll through the halls to distract myself from the thoughts I have been getting since I woke up. I was just on my way back to my bedroom. I never intended to wake you.", she had answered me. I shouldn't be surprised that someone would stroll in the halls when they are not busy with anything or getting busy. Like she said before, the halls were like a maze." I am sorry for disturbing you.", she then said.
I reassured her by telling her," No, no, there's no need to apologize. I was only curious."
Then out of the blue, I asked her," Mind if I escort you to your bedroom? If not, then I won't mind."
" I don't mind at all. I enjoy your company.", she told me her lips formed back the smile from before.
This led my lips to follow suit with a smile forming on my face. I lifted my hand out to her to take. Our eyes were locked to each other's as she took my hand. Both our fingers then intertwined before I began to walk with her back to her room. She seemed as jovial as I was to do this with her, even though we both knew that it would not be long since her bedroom was in the next hallway, just a few doors down on the left.
___________________________________
I still kept the smile on my face as I held her hand and walked with her to her room. My eyes kept looking at her from time to time as I escorted her to her room. She was radiant whenever the moonlight touched her. With each passing second, I felt almost enraptured for just being near her and to just hold her hand.
We stopped walking once we got to her door. I uncurled my fingers as I felt her own followed suit. She turned to me and said," Thank you, Adrien, for the talk and for taking me back to my room. I hope you sleep well tonight.". She then turned away again, about to enter her room. My smiling disappeared as she turned away. I quickly grabbed her hand again. She turned her head to me and before she could say anything else, I told her," If you ever have trouble sleeping again for any reason, you are welcome to come to me. I won't mind if you have to wake me up for it.". I wanted to see her more often since I would likely do as much with Taka and Sumi around. It would take months or years for them to learn how to successfully hunt vampires. I didn't want to lose sight of Cristine if that were to happen. She meant a lot to me since the day we became closer than acquaintances.
She smiled and nodded her head." Okay, I will.", she told me.
My smile then returned to my face after hearing her answer. That smile was enough for my heart to pound a little in my chest. I wasn't sure it was love since we knew each other for almost a month now. But it did feel something more than just friendly interactions. I then placed my free hand on her cheek, while the other still held her hand. I gently pulled her closer to me, but not enough to feel my torso physically.
Her blues eyes widened up at me, but not fearfully or uncomfortably. I wanted to kiss her then and there, but it was too soon for it to be on the lips. I leaned my head down until my lips touched her forehead. I still kept a smile on my face as I pulled away to look at her again and removing my hand from her cheek and releasing her hand from my own. Part of me was worried that I made her uncomfortable, but I was then relieved to what her actual response was.
Her pale cheeks became a little pink from blushing. I chuckled as I watched her try to keep herself from smiling. I then told her," Goodnight, Cristine, do sleep well.", as I start to walk away from her.
" Good night.", I heard her respond as I walked and turned my back. I then heard her door close, indicating that she was no longer in the halls.
___________________________________
As I laid in my bed, I still couldn't sleep only this time I wasn't annoyed by it and I had a reason. Thoughts of Cristine had filled my mind. My eyes were half-closed and a small smile was on my face.
I was laying on the right side of my bed, picturing what it would be like if she was right beside me. I began to ache for that moment to arrive. I wanted to hold her more, to say more, and to kiss her more only not on the head...
" Oh my God...", I murmured to myself as my eyes widened, realizing what my thoughts were telling me," I really am in love with her, aren't I? How can after only knowing her for a short amount of time?"
As I remembered my parents saying, it took years for them to fall in love. Or was it months? I can not recall really since they both told me that they love each other at a different time rather than the same.
" Only time will tell if it's true.", I continued whispering to myself," Besides, as joyful as she seems around me, I am not sure if she feels the same."
I shouldn't do push it or say anything yet. It's best that she decides that herself rather than expecting her to return this feeling I have for her.
I then shut my eyes, thinking of what that moment would be like. Would she be happy? Uncomfortable? Indifferent? This list of possibilities goes one. Not long after that, I finally drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 5: Unable to Sleep (Part I)
Cristine
Flashback from fifteen years earlier...
The night was dark as always like in the day, but the storm was much stronger than before. The thunder was louder, the wind was much stronger, and the rain was heavy. The sound of the raindrops made it almost impossible for me to sleep.
But the wind and the rain was never the problem of why I could not sleep. It was lightning. One of my earliest memories of a storm that involved thunder and lightning was when I was no more than three years of age. A time when my mother was still alive and my sister was still with me. My sister and I shared the same bedroom, she never had a problem with lightning or thunder. She thought of them as intriguing and strangely relaxing to listen to. I found it uneasy.
The moment after a bolt of lightning struck I cried out," Mummy!". My sister groaned in annoyance as she woke up.
" Crissy, why must you always shout when a storm happens?", she asked, looking at me with her ivory-toned tired and angry expression. Her wavy dirty blonde hair was a mess, her brown eyes narrowed at me, she was sitting on her side with a hand as support. She was nine years old at the time but her mind was already a practical adult at the time. Mother said that she was a prodigy meaning as in a "child genius". Which was something that frightened our mother due to what horrible things they had done.
" I didn't mean to wake you, Rosie. I just hate the--", before I could finish another lightning struck which made me cry out " Mummy!" again. She came to the door not long after that one. She was standing at the doorway, holding a lit candle. I looked at her with teary eyes. She was in her late twenties to early thirties, tall, long dirty blonde hair that was tied into a messy braid, skin that was pale as the snow, eyes that were green as tree leaves in the spring. She wore a green robe with yellow trim and tie. I held up my arms as I whimpered to her" Mummy...". She gave me a soft smile as she went over to my bed, sat down then held me.
" Mummy the lightning scares me.", I sniffled into her chest. She gently rubbed my back in small circular motions while her other hand held my head closely.
" I know it does, my little fawn.", she told me in her soothing and bird-like voice," The lightning can be scary for many sometimes. ".
" I, however, find it fascinating and relaxing. It's practical music to my ears.", Rosella commented. She was usually called by her pet name "Rosie" rather than "Rosella" unless our mother was being strict with her. This ironically happens quite often since Rosella tended to get in trouble despite her being the oldest and mature one out of both of us.
The lightning then struck again for the third time, as always I cried again." Oh, calm down, Cristine. This happened many times before, you should be used to this--"
" Rosella, hush!", my mother instructed my sister. She only rolled her eyes then laid back down and pulled the covers over herself. Mother still was holding me close.
" I can't stop the thunder, my sweet. Would you like me to sing you to sleep?", she asked. I looked up at her and stopped the sniffling. I nodded my head yes.
She laid me back on the bed and tucked me in. She looked down at me with the same smile on her face as before. She then began to sing in her angelic tone:
"Little child, be not afraid
Though rain pounds harshly against the glass
Like an unwanted stranger
There is no danger
I am here tonight
Little child, be not afraid
Though thunder explodes and lightning flash
Illuminates your tear-stained face
I am here tonight
And someday you'll know
That nature is so
The same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
On forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you'll see
In the morning
Little child, be not afraid
Though storm clouds mask your beloved moon
And its candlelight beams
Still keep pleasant dreams
I am here tonight
Little child, be not afraid
Though wind makes creatures of our trees
And their branches to hands
They're not real, understand
And I am here tonight
And someday you'll know
That nature is so
The same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
On forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you'll see
In the morning
For you know
Once even I was a little child
And I was afraid
But a gentle someone always came
To dry all my tears
Trade sweet sleep for fears
And to give a kiss goodnight
Well now I am grown
And these years have shown
That rain's a part of how life goes
But it's dark and it's late
So I'll hold you and wait
'Til your frightened eyes do close
And I hope that you'll know
That nature is so
The same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
On forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you'll see
In the morning
Everything's fine in the morning
The rain will be gone in the morning
But I'll still be here in the morning"
I don't remember which part of that song I fell asleep in at the time, but when I did I did not hear a single strike of lightning, not even as I heard my mother sing. I was sleeping dreamlessly that night.
___________________________________
Present-day(1476)...
My eyes began to open wide from the dream. It was either the middle of the night or a few hours before sunrise, I could not tell, all I knew was that it was still dark out. I sat up on my bed and held my legs against my chest. Thoughts of my fond memories of my mother filled my mind after waking from the dream.
My mother was always my protector and light when in the darkest moments, she even was the same to Rosella. She loved us both regardless of how different we were from each other. I never understood why anyone would accuse her as a witch or anything awful, as far as I knew she never harmed a soul. I missed her so much, including my sister. She was a bit harsh but she was probably hurt from when our father left us. She knew of him more than I did, they were probably close before I came along. But I wouldn't know, I never really asked and I was only told that he never was the type to stick around long.
Wanting to clear my head from the unhappy thoughts, I removed the covers from my body then got off the bed. I walked to the wardrobe and opened it to search for a robe. I found one that was maroon colored and put it on. I tied it together, tightly but not to where it would hurt me or make me uncomfortable. I walked to the door, opened it, then walked out.
I thought that a small stroll would help clear my head. I walked from hallway to hallway. I went to the library to read for a short period of time before I walked back to my room.
I stopped in my tracks and gasped as I felt a hand on my shoulder. I quickly turned to see who it was and it was Adrien. I placed a hand on my chest and sighed in relief." You scared me.", I almost smiled at him.
He smiled back at me as he said," I apologize for doing so. I was just wondering who was wandering in the halls.". His long blonde hair was a bit messier than usual, he wore a large white shirt that reaches down to his knees, his usual black pants, but did not wear his boots." You had trouble sleeping too, didn't you?", I asked after observing him.
He lifted his shoulders slightly as he responded," How did you guess?". I couldn't tell if he was asking, joking, or being sarcastic. So I didn't respond to that.
" What kept you from being unable to sleep on a lovely night like this?", he asked.
" I--", I began to say but it began to be hard finding the words for it. Any thought of my mother had often made me upset, even if it's one of my fondest memories of her. I never had gotten over her death even after all these years.
" I dreamt of my mother.", I answered him truthfully," Before the Church had come and before my sister had left.". I then looked down with a mildly sad expression on my face.
" Oh... Was it a good dream?", he asked me in a gentle tone.
" It was lovely.", I told him. I then looked back at him. He had a calm expression on his face as usual. Out of curiosity, I asked him in return," How about you Adrien? What kept you up this night?".
" I just couldn't shut my eyes or at the very least keeping them shut.", he answered.
" Hm... I can understand that.", I responded. I could understand. There are some nights where I could shut my eyes, while half the time I couldn't. Whenever I couldn't, I could never understand why though.
" So, what were you doing in the halls, anyway?", he asked.
" I was just taking a small stroll through the halls to distract myself from the thoughts I have been getting since I woke up. I was just on my way back to my bedroom. I never intended to wake you.", I explained to his first then the second question that he didn't even ask," I am sorry for disturbing you."
" No, no, there's no need to apologize. I was only curious.", he told me then asked," Mind if I escort you to your bedroom? If not, then I won't mind."
" I don't mind at all.", I told him with a smile on my face," I enjoy your company.". A smile formed on his face. He lifted his hand slightly towards me. As our fingers intertwined, our eyes never separated from each other's, that was until he walked me back to my room.
___________________________________
Although it wasn't long until he took me back to my bedroom, every second with him felt like forever, but in a genuine way. As we got to my door, I released his hand and told him," Thank you, Adrien, for the talk and for taking me back to my room. I hope you sleep well tonight.". As I turned away to open the door, I felt his hand back on mine. I turned my head back to him.
" If you ever have trouble sleeping again for any reason, you are welcome to come to me. I won't mind if you have to wake me up for it.", he told me.
I smiled again and nodded my head with an " Okay, I will.".
A small smile formed on his lips again. He then placed his free hand on my cheek and held it. He pulled me in delicately and only enough to be a little closer to his masculine form. My eyes looked up at him widely with a confused expression on what he was doing. That was until I felt his lips gently kissing my forehead for two seconds. He still had the same soft smile on his face as he pulled away and removed his hand from my cheek.
I couldn't help but blush a little as I tried to hide the smile that was forcing itself to form on my face. He chuckled at my response to his kiss." Goodnight, Cristine, do sleep well.", Adrien told me as he began to walk away.
" Goodnight.", I returned as I watched him walk away with the smile still on my face. I quickly entered my room, shut the door, then leaned back on it. My eyes were half-closed as I stood there with a dumb look on my face. Thoughts of Adrien was filling my mind, repeating the same scene of just happened between me and him. His kiss may not have been on my lips, but my heart couldn't help but flutter since that was the first time any male had kissed me before. I felt almost as if though I was in love, but I couldn't be since neither of us really had talked on the subject and the idea of it was still new to me.
After a minute and a half, I stood up straight then made my way to my bed. I climbed onto the bed and laid my head on the pillows. Soon, my eyelids slowly lost their strength to keep open, shutting my eyes allowing me to drift back to sleep.

Chapter 4: First Day and New Arrival
Cristine
The day began with the sun shining brightly, almost like any other day. Only this time, I couldn't worry about the worst of things, at least not yet anyway since Adrien allowed me to stay with him. I felt as though he was too kind for letting me stay with him. Part of me thought he was just lonely, another part of me thought that he had an ulterior motive. But I perished the thought.
My eyelids opened slightly before I yawned. I then sat up and stretched my arms out a little. Part of me still wanted to lay in bed a little longer but the rest of me refused to let me waste the day any longer than it had to.
I get out of bed and left the room to search for my friend. But that is proven difficult due to the many hallways and many rooms this home of his contained.
As I searched for him, I look around the place with awe from the interesting architecture this place had and the paintings on the walls.
I stopped in my trails when one of the paintings caught my eye. The painting contained three individuals: One of them was a tall, dark man who looked to be in his forties, one was a woman in bright attire who was much shorter and appeared to be in her mid-twenties, and the third one was an infant child in white and blue, being held by the woman. I tilted my head to the side a little, looking at the painting a little closer.
I gasp in surprise when I feel a cold hand on my shoulder. I quickly turn and it was Adrien.
" You scared me.", I told him.
" Apologies, I had no intention of doing so.", he responded with a small smile but when he looked up at the painting, it disappears. I look back at the painting and point to it." Is that you and your parents?", she asked him.
" It is.", he answered.
"Your mother was beautiful.", I complimented. She truly was a sight to behold.
" She was, inside and out.", he acknowledged in a soft and seemingly tired tone. I turned my head and saw a bit of grief in his eyes. The death of his mother still affected him.
After a few small moments, he looked back at me in a more emotionless expression." I went to look for you in your bedroom but you were already gone. ", he said.
" Oh, I'm sorry. I was looking for you, but this castle is so large and confusing, I couldn't find you. This place is like a maze.", I explained to him with sincerity.
" Perhaps after breakfast, I should give you a tour of the place.", he told me then began to walk. I began to follow him when he became a few steps away.
I sat down in one of the chairs when we got to the kitchen. He served a bit of porridge with a few berries in it." Is it good?", he asked.
I looked at him and nodded my head a yes since my mouth was full at the moment. The taste was delicious with the berries.
We spent the next minute in silence as we ate. My eyes wandered a little as we did. Most of the time they would be directed at the two dolls. I could tell that he noticed when I heard him sigh. I looked at him after that." They are distracting, aren't they?", he asked.
" I never said that they were.", I told him. That was a lie, they were distracting me. In a way, they almost creeped me out, like I was being watched by those button eyes of theirs.
" I know", he stated," but I can tell that they are. You have been glimpsing at them a lot now."
I look down at my remaining few bites of food as a distraction since I didn't want to keep looking at the dolls. " No need to feel ashamed about it.", he told me, probably trying to comfort me or whatever it is he was trying to do.
" I just don't want to embarrass you.", I told him.
" Embarrass me from what? No one else his here.", I hear him almost chuckle.
I looked at him a small moment then back at the food as I finished it. I then get out of my chair, then he does the same." Shall we begin?", I hear him ask. I turn to him and nod my head a yes.
We spent the morning with him giving me a tour of the castle. As fascinating as it was, I still felt lost due to how large it was and the many rooms and hallways it contained." I am probably going to have to make a map of this place.", I thought to myself.
" Your home is quite fascinating, Adrien. I never thought I would be in an actual castle.", I told him as we walked.
" Well, now you are, how does it feel?", he asked me.
" It feels... Different, really.", I answered," I would imagine that many people would live here to where it would be crowded. But it's all more empty and much easier to get lost in.". I then looked at him. He seemed distracted by something else. He was looking down with a facial expression that looked as though he was just slapped in the face out of nowhere.
" Adrien?", I said in a gentle tone to get his attention, he didn't respond. I took a step closer to him with my arm reaching for him. I then took another step and another until my hand had touched his shoulder, as I did so I said his name again," Adrien.".
He turned his head towards me with his eyes widened, he seemed like he forgot that I was there that time." Are you alright?", I asked him with concern," You seem troubled or distracted. Is something on your mind?". He then started to notice my hand on his shoulder. Before I could take it off his shoulder, his hand was already around my wrist. His thumb was stroking it a little as he slowly moved my hand away from his shoulder and said with a calm expression," I'm fine, I just was... Just thinking was all. I need to clear my head for a bit if you don't mind.".
He then lets go of my wrist and it went back to my side." What thoughts are troubling you?", I asked him.
" A lot of things, most of them I prefer not to share.", he answered.
" Are you sure?", I persisted to know since my curiosities would often get the best of me.
"Yes, I am sure.", he responded. I nodded my head since it was best that I didn't pry into more of the details.
" I will be back a bit later.", I heard him say before he began to walk away," I just need to clear my head. Don't get too adventurous here, I would hate for you to get lost again.". He almost smiled at the end of his last sentence, like he attempted to make a joke out of it.
I just smiled back at him and nodded in response. He then opens the door and exits the castle.
I then looked down as my smile left my face. Just to pass the time, I went to his library to read. I look through the bookcases to find anything interesting to read. I grabbed a book about the anatomy of vampires. It was quite an interesting page-turner. I sat down at one of the chairs as I read it to pass the time until Adrien came back.
Which didn't take long.

I was sitting in one of the chairs in the castle library, I then heard the front door open, figuring it was him. I closed the book then put it back in the bookcase. I walked out of the library to see him. Only when I saw him, he wasn't the only one there this time. A man and woman came with him. They both had dark hair and
I stood there in silence as I saw the two people with him. The man had curly hair tied up, he carried a bow with him, he wore an unusual attire. The woman had her hair down, had a headband on, and looked as equally as odd as the man with fur tied to her back. Both had dark, dark eyes, tan skin, and looked to be in their early to mid-twenties.
" Adrien?", I caught their attention when I said my friend's name. All three of them were looking directly at me, while my direction was specifically at Adrien's.
" Who are those two people?", I asked him.
" Cristine, this is Taka and Sumi. They come here to seeking knowledge. They will be our guests for the time being.", Adrien answered me, lifting his hand slightly in their direction as he said it before lowering back to his side. I looked at the two guests. Taka had a small smile on his face, while Sumi's smile was slightly bigger. Strangely, a small part of me had a bad feeling about them but wasn't sure why. I ignored that part by giving them a welcoming smile since the feeling was probably because they were new." It is lovely to meet you both.", told them.
" Lovely to meet you too, Ms.Cristine.", Taka said back.
" You're beautiful.", Sumi then added. I could tell that was blushing a little since my cheeks felt a bit warm.
" Er... Thank you.", I responded a bit nervously since I was not used to being complimented.
" I am taking them to the kitchen for a bit of wine. Would you like to join us, Cristine?", Adrien asked. Just when I was about to accept, the part of me that had a bad vibe about the guests had returned." Don't go near them.", it said to me," They can't be trusted." I wanted to ignore that part of but rather doing that I gave in.
" No, thank you.", I politely refused," I'm not really in the mood for wine."
Just before Adrien could respond Sumi then said while shrugging," Then I won't have any either.". Everyone looked at her with a bit of confusion and surprise, including me. It was a bit odd for her to deny it too. Sumi then walked over with the same smile as before, then wrapped an arm around my shoulders when she stood next to me." I'll just hang with Cristine here instead.", she continued.  I looked at her with an odd expression than at the two men. Adrien raised an eyebrow at us. I looked back at Sumi.
" What?", she said with slight confusion then casually explained," It's been forever since I hung out with a girl, so why not?".
" Really? Was that true?", I wondered. What life did this woman live? Was it bad or boring or... I wasn't too sure about it. I looked back at Adrien to see what he thought.
" Well, I suppose if Cristine is alright with it.", he spoke, seemingly concerned, confused, and calm about it at the same time," Are you?".
" I don't mind.", I answered him, shaking my head slightly, ignoring the bad vibe again. I didn't know I did have a bad vibe anyway. Was it because they were new or no? Was it because they are here for something else or not? I didn't know what it was.
" Guess it's more wine for you and me, Alucard.", Taka spoke with some enthusiasm.
" It appears so.", Adrien responded to Taka before telling me and Sumi," We will see you in a short while then.". I nodded at him. The two men then walked away to the kitchen as I felt Sumi's arm came off me. I looked up at her since she was taller than I was. I took a step back to give each other some space.
" So, where would you like to chat?", Sumi asked.
" Well... We could go to the library and chat. I was reading about astrology.", I answered.
" Astrology? That sounds quite interesting. ", she replied," Let's do that then.". I smiled a bit and led her to the library. We talked for what seemed to be hours and bonded quite well. We shared our pasts and I immediately felt sorry for her and Taka. I even ignored my bad vibes again and again after hearing. She suffered many severe traumas than I.

Chapter 3: Wine Talk
Alucard
I carried the unconscious Cristine in my arms as exited her burning home. Once I got far enough from it, I turned around and saw her burning home start to collapse." At least the bodies won't need to be disposed of.", I said to myself.
I looked down at Cristine, my usually calm and emotionless expression softened from the sight of her. Her once lovely and neat auburn hair was now a mess, her rose tinted cheeks were puffy and sticky from what looked like tears drying up, some fresh bruises and cuts were on her once soft skin, and instead of her usually calm expression which occasionally included a small smile; it was now a hurt and tired one.
It tucked her head onto my shoulder to make her comfortable. She looked more relaxed after that. I then walked to my castle to treat her bruises and cuts and so she could sleep comfortably.
" They will not hurt you anymore.", I whispered to her as if she could here me.
When I entered my castle, I placed her in one of spare rooms . While she laid in the bed, I cleaned the filth on her face and did what I could to treat her bruises and her cuts. Luckily, the cuts weren't severe so there was no need to bandage them.
I finished not long after, I pulled a blanket over her to keep her warm for the night. I heard a small whimper coming from Cristine. I looked at her with concern, tears streaming from her and she squirming a bit. Without hesitation, I gently placed a hand on her left cheek, whispering that she was safe and she had nothing to fear. Instead of calming down, she woke up and gasped. I immediately took my hand away from her cheek and gave her some space. She then sat up and panted, just noticing that she was in an unfamiliar place. She looked at me at me with her eyes widened. We both said nothing to each other. I reached in to place my hand on her cheek again to show I meant no harm. But when the palm of my hand made contact with her cheek, tears quickly streamed from her eyes. She leaned into me with her arms wrapped around me, closing the gap between us as she sobbed into my chest. I wrapped my arms around her to comfort the poor woman." It's alright, Cristine. You're safe now, they won't hurt you anymore.", I softly whispered to soothe her. I rubbed her back and kept a hold of her as she sobbed. But she eventually began to calm down. I slowly pulled away from her to give her space. Her head was facing down with a facial expression that was still sad but the tears stopped coming at least.
" Does that feel better, at least a little?", I asked her.
Cristine shook her head a yes, still carried the sad look on her face though. But it must have worked at least a little since she stopped the crying." Hm... How about I get you something to drink?", I suggested," Maybe that can get your mind off what happened at least a little. Then maybe we can talk about what happened, or if you prefer we don't have to. You can just rest."
Cristine stayed silent for a small moment before saying," I could use a drink, actually."
I got off the bed and offered a hand to her. She looked at it then at me. As she took the blanket off her she took my hand. My fingers curled around her hand and kept a firm grip as she got off the bed. I then lead her outside of the room, still keeping a hold of her small hand.
I took her from the halls, to the main hall, and finally to the kitchen. I walked in with her. I let go of her hand and grabbed one of the chairs. I pulled it out for her then tell her," Do sit down.", and she did no questions asked. I then pushed it into for her but not too much, that would have been crazy of me. I then walked to the cellar door and opened it. Before I entered, I looked at her. She looked back at me." I'll be back shortly with some wine.", I told her then entered the cellar to search for the wine. But it wasn't easy since most of the wine bottles were shattered.
After a few long minutes of searching, I finally found one. I then grabbed two wine glasses on the way back to the kitchen, hopefully Cristine hadn't wondered off. I opened the door and saw that Cristine was still in the same spot as before, thankfully. But I sighed when I noticed her staring at the two dolls I made to look like Trevor and Sypha." Please, don't look at those.", I tell her calmly.
She turned her head towards me. I walked over and placed both glasses down on the table, one next to her while the other was at my usual spot. I poured the wine in both our glasses then I set the bottle aside. I sat down in my usual spot, which was at the end of the table and on the left side of where Cristine was sitting. I drank some of my wine, she just stared at her's like she didn't know what to do with it. " Do you not like white wine?", I asked her.
" Hm?", she responded as she turned her head to me," Oh no, I just never had wine before."
" Try it, I promise you that it's good.", I encouraged her. She looked at it again then picked up her glass. She circled the wine a little before she took a sip of it.
" This tastes delicious.", she said before she continued to drink more of it. I softly smiled at her, glad that she was enjoying it. Somehow, my eyes then lead my attention from Cristine to the dolls. I frowned a little, remembering what happened before Cristine. "What's wrong?", I heard her ask, the memories stopped playing in my head and my attention was back to Cristine.
" Nothing, just thinking.", I answered before drinking from my glass. We both were silent for a short while. I didn't mention about her home or about the men, I thought it would be too much pressure for her to talk about it." Your home is lovely.", she said.
" Thank you.", I responded.
" And quite large for one person.", she continued which touched a nerve of mine. But I couldn't be angry at her for it, she didn't know the reason why I was the only one in the castle." This used to be my father's castle", I told her," until he died."
" I'm sorry that you lost your father. How did he die?", she asked.
" By my hand with wooden stake to his heart.", I answered her with a slight melancholic tone. I didn't need to look at her to know that she was shocked. An answer like that can shock anyone.
" Why did you do it?", she questioned further in a timid tone, I looked at her. I must have given her a serious or offended look on my face since her's was a nervous one. I drank the rest of my wine, then set my glass down and shut my eyes for a small moment as I thought about how I should respond to her question. I took a long breath then opened my eyes. I looked into her eyes deeply as I asked," If I tell you, would you promise to not be afraid of me or to see me as a monster?"
" Of course, why would I see you as that?", she answered with a small and confused smile, obviously oblivious with why I asked such a promise. I managed to smile back a little but that was short lived and my expression turned back into a sad and serious one.
" My father wasn't always the monster people say that he was, there was time where he was more human.", I started.
_________________________________
The story took me longer than I expected to explain, but she still listened. For all I know how long I talked, it could have been hours. I surprised that she didn't end up falling asleep, being bored, trying to interrupted, or being scared or disgusted.
" After my father's death, my friends and I said our farewells and they left to go on with their lives. As for me, I remained here, protecting both my father's knowledge and the Belmont Hold.", I finally finished. She looked at me as if she wanted to say that she was sorry.
" You and your father really must have struggled with your mother's death.", she responded in a gentle tone," I'm sorry for your losses. My mother was taken and killed by the Church too.". I looked at her, her head was down with a sad expression her face. I watched as a tear streamed from her eyes, down her cheek. It dropped onto her hand. I could tell that she spoke the truth.
"How old were you when it happened?", I asked her out of curiosity and pity.
" About seven, I think.", she answered. I was almost startled from her answer. She had lost her mother longer than I have, and at a early age." How did your father take it?", I continued to ask.
" I never knew my father. My mother always told me that he was never the type to stick around. I never understood why though.", she answered. I was more startled and more curious on her answered to that, but I also felt more sorry for her after learning it. But I was also a little puzzled on how she managed to survive long enough to be the woman she is now." Were you always alone since then?", I asked her further.
" I used to have an older sister who took care of me. We used to be very close when I was young. When I was thirteen, she was gone. I don't know why she did it, she never left a note or even said goodbye.", she told me with a heartbroken expression on her face," Maybe she did it to find our father. Maybe she did it to find those who killed our mother....or maybe she did it because of me. I might've held her back, maybe I wasn't good enough."
" Do you really think it's your fault?", I asked her, hiding my small bit of anger on how someone would abandon her at such a young age. She rubbed her hands together, having a guilty and sad look on her face. She probably sensed the anger I had when I asked her the question." It's always felt like that.", she responded. I reached over and placed my hand on her's, curling my fingers around to hold it. " None of it was you fault.", I told her in a kinder tone," You deserved none of the cruel things that had happened to you. You are a good and innocent woman.". Cristine looked at me but said nothing, not even argued that she was otherwise. She then looked down again but carried a small smile on her face. She took a small glimpse back at me but turned away when she caught me smiling at her. I couldn't help but find her shy response rather adorable. Her smile shortly vanished and turned back into a frown. It didn't take long for my smile to follow suite, only my facial expression was now a concerned one.
" What's wrong?", I asked her, knowing that something was one her mind.
" I don't know what to do. The only home I ever had is gone. The Church will find me again, they'll say that I'm responsible.", she explained to me with worry. I tighten my grip into a firm one so that she didn't feel uncomfortable or hurt.
" Stay with me then.", I almost immediately suggested; she looked at me almost surprised from my offer," I can protect you, provide for us both. Maybe we could teach each other some things? You could teach me about planting and maybe some food recipes, and I could teach you...Well, whatever you like to be taught."
" Really? You would do that?", she asked in amazement.
" Yes, I gladly would.", I told her smiling," I also could use some help cleaning up the place and organizing some things, if it's not too much trouble.".
" I would, actually, I love to help.", she smiled, I felt her equally firm grip on my hand. Just like that, I thought it was too good to be true that she would accept my offer. But it was true, or at least I think it was. Either way it was still a joy to know that there was someone willing to stay and help. Me and her could both use each other's company, this was truly a joy.
