Shamar the Vivillon (Sandstorm)
Tumblr media
I feel like I remember the Arid Sands stages as being some of the ones that gave me the most trouble, though I don't recall specifically how... I think there was a night stage where I felt like it was super easy to get lost...

Clyde the Pumpkaboo (Super)
Tumblr media
Interestingly, while the orange ghost is usually Clyde, in Ms. Pac-Man, the orange ghost was instead named Sue. Sue filled the same role as Clyde, using the same basic AI rules, maze corner preference during "scatter mode," etc. In later games, Sue was more made her own separate character, and was given a purple coloration.

Inky the Pumpkaboo (Large)
Tumblr media
To add to the theming of these four, I used particular capture balls to match the ghosts' colors : PokéBall for Blinky, Heal Ball for Pinky, Dive Ball for Inky, and Repeat Ball for Clyde. As for Inky, I thought his AI was set to try to avoid Pac-Man as much as possible, but apparently his is more complicated than I thought.

Pinky the Pumpkaboo (Average)
Tumblr media
I had vague memories of something, and indeed I was right, there was at least one depiction of Pinky where they were actually male, and it was the weird animated series. In which the Ghost Gang more or less had mobster personalities, and Pinky had the deepest voice among them. I did however go with the more common depiction, and this particular Pumpkaboo is female.

Blinky the Pumpkaboo (Small)
Tumblr media
Just in time for Halloween of 2023, I trained up some pumpkins! As with my Gourgeist, I did go with a theme for naming the four forms of Pumpkaboo. Since the smaller sizes of Pumpkaboo are faster, I named them after the four main ghosts from the Pac-Man games, with the smaller Pumpkaboo being the faster or more overall threatening ghosts. So since Blinky just goes out of his way to hunt you down, he's the smallest, fastest pumpkin.

Paarthurnax the Mega Charizard X
Tumblr media
It's been awhile, so I decided I wanted to go back and train some more Pokémon on the 3DS. After all, there are some forms and species still locked to the older games, such as Mega Evolutions. Paarthurnax was one of my favorite parts of playing Skyrim. It was cool having a dragon ally amidst everything else going on. And it was quite surprising to learn that he was voiced by Charles Martinet, better known for voicing Mario. It's a-me! Paarthurnax! Wahoo!

Baoshi the Chi-Yu
Tumblr media
One of those things where I wonder if there’s a particular basis.  The Ruinous Treasures, based on their names, seem to have a Chinese basis, and yet Chi-Yu here seems to be represented with magatama beads, which as far as I know, are a Japanese thing.  Was there a Chinese basis to them I simply didn’t find in my research?  Either way, that brings us to the end of Box 29.  Crazy to realize that, over the various games my collection is split between at this point, I have a full 29 boxes of Lv 100s I’ve trained over the years.  And then some when you count the Box Zero entries.  I’ve... been at this awhile.

Qingtong the Ting-Lu
Tumblr media
I admittedly don’t know much about metalworking, so maybe there’s some trick to it I simply am unaware of, but I wonder just how much time it takes to get all those intricate details into things like this.  All those swirls and patterns have such an interesting look to them, I’m curious how exactly they did that.  Unless I’m wrong and mold casting existed that long ago, but I at least don’t think it did?

Holocene the Sandy Shocks
Tumblr media
Sandy Shocks here is my favorite of the Past Paradoxes.  It is also truly feels like the biggest paradox.  How the heck do you have modern magnets in the prehistoric past?  It is this fact that made the Holocene epoch seem a fitting one to go with, as it is the most modern era, the one we’re even currently in, in fact.
EDIT : Apologies to those who may be upset that I used BCE in the info. I didn’t think it would be a contentious thing.  In researching the info for this name, the articles I was reading used BCE / CE, rather than BC / AD as descriptors.  From what I gather, these are seen as more scientific terms overall, and more commonly used in scientific and geological research, hence my using them in such entries.  Truthfully, I ended up using it in another upcoming entry as well, because again, when doing research for the entry, that was the term used, had to do with the carbon dating of certain artifacts.  Again, no offense is meant, I’m simply using scientific terminology.  I think we can probably leave such heavy debates out of me simply explaining why I name my Pokémon as I do, yes?

Pleistocene the Scream Tail
Tumblr media
As I had a naming scheme for the Future Paradoxes, I also have one for the Past Paradoxes, one that was suggested by my friend Kit.  This gang is named after various historical eras that somehow could fit each one.  For Pleistocene here, since Jigglypuff is all about singing, music being a human creation, I went with the era where some of the earliest ancestors of modern mankind came about.  Meanwhile, I don’t know if it’s just me, but Scream Tail here gives me serious 80s rock star vibes.

Mahha the Armarouge
Tumblr media
Honestly, if I hadn’t already used Hinoken as a name elsewhere, I would have used it here.  Armarouge’s colors match up with HeatMan.EXE pretty well.  But with that name taken, I figured BlastMan.EXE’s bulky upper body would work as well.

Thornton the Koraidon
Tumblr media
So... probably one of my most obscure naming references, this.  I was trying to think of some sort of ancient, prehistoric type vehicle, and this old Colecovision game was the first thing that came to mind.  Basically you had to duck and jump to get past obstacles while riding a standard impossible caveman unicycle (like, no way this would physically work due to how it’s constructed, but cartoon logic!).  I actually didn’t know much about the actual B.C. comic before researching this, I’d just known the game.

Jinshu the Chien-Pao
Tumblr media
Every once in awhile, I go to the quiz site Sporcle to test my memory on a set of quizzes that are all just “name every Pokémon species from this generation.”  It’s taken me a long time to internalize the names of the Ruinous Treasures, but I think having actually trained a couple of them now, I finally have them down.  I wonder if there’s an actual basis for having this quartet of Chinese themed Pokémon in PokéSpain?  But then I suppose we had the Three Musketeers in PokéUSA...

Mutou the Wo-Chien
Tumblr media
Something about the Ruinous Treasures set, I just wanted to give them simple elemental names, but with a Chinese flair to match their theming.  They are after all basically untamed forces of nature.  It perhaps goes to show just how much I kept exploring the world looking for loose items and such : I found all 32 of the cursed stakes to release the four Ruinous Treasures without looking any of them up.

Peng the Iron Bundle
Tumblr media
Iron Bundle is kind of hilarious in the sense that the normal Delibird doesn’t really generate that much excitement, but Iron Bundle is considered absolutely broken, haha.  I do really love Iron Bundle’s animations.  I think in a way, that might be what led me to think of Mega Man enemies.  When Iron Bundle takes a hit, its head springs off similar to the decoy Dr. Wily in Mega Man 3.

BenK the Iron Valiant
Tumblr media
So seeing the Future Paradox Pokémon and their robotic looks, it pretty solidly put me in the mindspace of Mega Man enemies, and thus I looked for enemies that they made me think of.  I hope we maybe get more Paradox Pokémon in the DLC, but we’ll see.  Granted I do kind of wish the Future Paradoxes got more varied names like the Past Paradoxes did.  I love their designs, but all of them just being “Iron Something” feels a little underwhelming.

Kuroi the Ceruledge
Tumblr media
One thing I wish I could find is a nice animated gif of the way Miyu tossed Battle Chips into her PET in the anime.  For some reason it just looked really cool to me.  Sadly, I haven’t been able to find such a thing.  She was easily my favorite Operator in the series, though Navi-wise, I do prefer MagicMan.EXE to SkullMan.EXE.  Don’t get me wrong though, he’s still cool and stylish.
