I love this series. Even the movie, which was just the recap of the second half of season 1 with a few added scenes, I had no complaints watching. Even after I've just finished season 1 minutes ago. I just had to watch it all over again.
After watching intense shounens and dramatic shoujos over the years, I've come to appreciate Iyashikei animes more now. I'll have to add more to my watch list. Especially since Shibuya is currently airing and Gojo is half the man he is. Also ... All Might went crazy.
So, I really need more happy and calm in my fiction lists.
Healthy competition in a sports anime where they're all supportive of each other and encourage each other, and everyone is genuinely kind how could I not love a series like this.
Fujiwara Shu was the biggest surprise. Like he had an air of pompous ass and felt mean. Then he turned out to be really nice and just wanted Minato to pick up his bow again.
Like his friendship with Ryohei. It was unexpected. He even lent him his fancy arrows. And Ryohei allowed Shu to be more open to the twins and others and it was actually really sweet. Honestly, their friendship has become important to me and I want to see more of it.
But as a girl with a pulse, I liked one person more than the others.
Liked him more with the long hair but I still love him
He was just what the team needed. Someone who doesn't push. Because a lot of them have huge egos. Encourages and tries to be a better teacher than what he had. He's there when he's needed and lets them figure it out on their own.
Will go back to this series once in a while just to feel a bit of calm cause this was nice for my soul and mind.
Bonus
The girl's team deserved more spotlight. Their one episode, competing in a public tournament, was not enough to satisfy me. Next season, I hope they get episodes (plural! But I know the show is focused on the boy's team) with just them. And not just as step stone for the boys to get over their mental block.
I thought it was interesting until I kept going (Again, I judge a manga until the 5th chapter) and it's uncomfortable. Oversexualized teenagers and characters that just seem effing stupid. There was just nothing in this manga that compelled me to keep reading.
Masa is really just that cool dude everyone wants to be in the same room with. Like I understand why after that one shot everyone was asking for his advice and wanting to be his favorite.
I want to be his favorite.
I'd seriously be the sly mean bitch that would try to get him to look at me. He's just so cool.
Starting to have fun with seeing Kaachan (really can't call him that. I'll just call him Kaito) and Minato's friendship.
slow starts are good when it comes to friendships
But this trio still has my heart.
I don't watch a lot of sports anime. The last sports anime I watched was Prince of Tennis. And yes, I never saw Haikyuu. Heard good things. A lot of my friends recommend it but I just can't vibe with it after seeing the first episode. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future. But that's future me's decision
I'm really excited to see Shu and Minato together. Like I'm hoping that he's just a nice kid wanting to see good things for his old friend. At least, that's the vibe I was getting. He seemed like a good guy.
Started Episode 1 2 and 3. Off to a good start because Luck LIfe was doing the Opening. I'm not some dumbbitch who wouldn't recognize Masumi Ueno. They did a lot of the Bungo Stray Dogs songs. Ain't failing to notice that.
You'd think his mom would survive after all he's a shoujo protagonist. But she wasn't so lucky.
Seiya is a good friend. Giving Minato the space to solve his problem on his own, but giving him the hard truths if needed. I like that in a friend. My best friend is like that.
Ryohei is one of the good ones too.
He's making an effort for him and Minato is making an effort to repay that trust. Love that.
It's been over a year since I saw Kaachan of MHA so yeah, going to notice that one more than anything.
Of course, there is going to be a stereotypical angry character at the MC who he assumes doesn't respect the sport. I don't hate it. When I usually should. Maybe cause he makes pouty faces that I forgive.
I do dislike Kaachan's friend.
Maybe he'll grow on me but for now he annoys me.
Introducing Masa in that fit was the right choice.
Love his senpai-kouhai relationship with Minato. I didn't look up any of the tagged genres on this one so the whole ghost thing threw me off but made me laugh.
Funniest sequence
Like I told myself that I should check the tagged genres if this was supernatural cause I just honestly want a calm series to watch.
But at least Minato found his inspiration to pick up the bow again because of Masa-san
I'm looking forward for this one. Just a calm happy series with Luck Life singing the opening.
I didn't drop this one. But Sarasa has been making the wrong decisions that were so easily solvable and keeping men around that she should have known better not to trust. Like seriously, why are you still trusting the Blue King after he assaulted you. I'm not okay with that. Will pick this up again once my anger and irritation toward Sarasa subsides.
Happiness
I like this one. However, my state of mind is depression and desperation right now. Reading this while I'm not mentally prepared or healthy is just going to cause more damage to my mental health. And I'm trying to save myself right now. Will pick this up again when my mental health is at a better status
Dropped
Takane to Hana
Dude is in his twenties and girl is a teenager. Nope. Like the girl's dad used her as a replacement for her older sister. Are you okay with that?! Nope for me.
Rosen Blood
Pretty art but the story didn't excite me enough. She seemed so push-over and just went with the flow without resolution to some issues.
Living No Matsunaga-san
I thought this was going to be good. I was excited. I started reading it then he falls for a teenager. Like I understand teenage girls being attracted to older men and not telling their friend that it's wrong. Thank god my friends are not that condoning. They'll slap the shit idea out of me. But what about his friends! The other people in the house?! The women in that house?! Why are you not protecting this girl? Matsunaga seems like a nice guy and I liked himbut then why did you… *sigh* This would have been better if she wasn't in high school. Like make her older or make him younger. What the hell!
Ojou to Banken-kun
Yakuza story. Girl who is the daughter of the boss. And the boss' underling. Yeah. I wanted to read Until shit he was way too old for her. AND THIS ONE GOT AN ANIME ADAPTATION?! Yeah fcuk you. This one was interesting until it went stupid.
Ichirei Shite, Kiss
Am I supposed to like the ML who was forcibly undressing the girl after she wanted to quit her club and he thought it was unfair that she didn't say anything to him? Dude I would have burned that club and put the blame on him.
Daifuku-chan to Ouji-sama
She was annoying. He pissed me off. Nothing more to be said.
Tsubaki-Chou Lonely Planet
Her dad was irresponsible. ML was way older. 2nd ML was around her age but an asshole. And there was no 3rd ML. At Least I stopped reading at the 5th chapter cause I usually judge by the 5th. Like there's so many levels of NOPE and F U Man in those five chapters I read.
I just ain't excusing any shit MLs or sad backstory or age gaps that are obviously unacceptable.
It's a manga from the same author as A Sign of Affection. So, I knew it was going to be interesting.
With the expectations I already had, after reading it I was blown away.
Without going into too much detail, it had the very known tropes play out but the tropes were done cleanly well, and it felt so new.
Ten is not my favorite shoujo girl but she's one of the likable memorable ones.
Riku ... wow this one was a piece of work. I honestly didn't think he'd be anything more than the flirty boy. I want to be careful about what I say cause he was not what I expected and I was pleasantly surprised with his role in the series. But then the backstory (which I will not spoil) and how he developed his friendship with Ten and Chiaki was beautiful.
And then Chiaki. He was the first guy introduced and was the one that really threw me off with his part in the series. Cause he was serious and sad but then RIKU exists and He's weird about Riku and there's nothing wrong with that.
When I was reading this, I didn't know who the Male Lead was. I know the rules and am familiar with how the MLs are introduced, but I was so wrong.
I wished Ten interacted more beyond Chiaki and Riku. She had a best friend who brought the boys into her life but barely interacted with them. I wanted to see more slice-of-life and just goofy days but I understand why the family drama had to take place.
But, yeah, I wanted to see Ten interact more with other women cause I prefer friendships over romantic relationships. Cause if you don't have a strong built friendship, any romance would be bland to me. I need to see the difference in love between friends and romance.
But Still, I'd recommend this for a nice, beautiful story of romance between Chiaki and Riku. That's the main point of the story.
I'm not sure what I'm feeling now. Where's the episode where the Detective Agency is solving the crisis? Cause every episode keeps opening more problems.
The gays seem to be winning though. For a moment at least.
Fyodor said Dazai could be manipulating Sigma. Planting the idea of Sigma having a place in the Agency. I know Dazai wouldn't but Sigma is in deep with Dazai.
And Fyodor... you bitch. I hate u but at the same time I can't because you were fuckin brilliant and I have to applaud brilliance
Like I knew not to trust anything this rat is going to do. I almost fell for it because the dark circles around his eyes were just gone. But I knew better.
But damn Sigma was naive. Like he knew what Fyodor was capable of but still fell for it.
But Sigma is the only person to ever see or perhaps understand Fyodor at some point. And I need to see and know his grand scheme before I can say he is the perfect villain. Because if his reasons are stupid, then it cancels out every other cool thing you've ever done.
Bra-chan just adopting Aya at this point. Because Aya's father suuuucks
I'd buy any merch if my friend was some legend. Cause I love them like that. Then I'd have them sign it and sell it online to the freaks.
Like piling on more despair. Fukuzawa is lying there. Atsushi, well, he can grow back his arm and leg. BUT Dazai... of all the people in that world that could kill him it was Chuuya? How would Chuuya feel when he's back. He pretends to hate Dazai but we know he's gay for him. And I'm here just telling myself that there's some plan or some other shit that just cancels out everything. The page may be rewritten but it all depends on who has it and so far everyone is down.
Yozano is still there and Lucy as well and Kyoka... at least my girls are surviving this doom.
It seems like things will get significantly worse for them before it gets any better. And there are only a few episodes left in the season. I can't handle a cliffhanger.
Bra-chan and Aya were my favorite duo this season and if anything were to happen to them, I wouldn't know how to react.
Especially after seeing a glimpse of Bra-chan's backstory. Dude asked about his people. He asked them to be spared. So, this girl with the Spotify premium account, he's probably going crazy about losing another vassal because he wasn't able to protect them.
When I saw this, I now decided Fukuchi as the most evil, vile man in the BSD world. Like sure, you have vampires and are fooling the entire world, but harming sweet Rampo, you are horrible.
The soft light. The cherry blossoms fluttering in the cool breeze. Then the symbolism of the heart-shaped petal breaking in two. The two birds in the pond and one of them leaving. They were so shoujo coded that this old man's divorce hurt me more than the other shoujo breakups.
Like Damn Fukuzawa. Your other breakup with Mori-sensei almost destroyed Yokohama. Then your first love is here to destroy the world. Stay single for a while man. Or stop finding the reddest flag of all the red flags.
Like shit. The stab. The grabbing into his arm for balance. the apology, thinking it was his fault and if he only went to war with him.
LIke Fukuchi went to war on the front lines while Fukuzawa stopped the war in the shadows, to bring back Fukuchi. Like what tragic romance shit is this? And where can I read more of it. I'm open to suggestions
Fyodor outsmarting Dazai after Dazai thought he outsmarted him.
Also, these two human disasters were my favorite duo aside from Bra-chan and Aya.
I miss Kunikida and Dazai. I miss slice-of-life Detective Agency episodes. I don't like them hurt anymore.
But it was over as soon as we saw him with fairy Coco. Honestly getting worried for him. Like something he's been desperate to hide will surface soon. Or that's just the overthinker in me.
Aside from Qifrey and his kids, they were my favorite master and apprentice duo. I always liked the responsible apprentice and the reckless master. Glad to see more of them and wish to see more of them soon. But not in disaster situations. More in Slice-of-life days, please. I can't handle the kids getting traumatized like this.
There really doesn't seem like a chance that Costas may be forgiven. But I don't think this arc will end with his memories being erased. But I'm guessing Dagda may not survive. Nor the others he brought back. Guessing he'll bring these people to his fold and teach them some magic.
Like I know Arlong took Nami and returned her to the village with that brand. I just didn't need to see it
I saw this in the trailer and thought it'd be a scene between Zoro and Sanji fighting together for the first time. Didn't think it'd also be Zoro looking out where his captain was going and making sure no one stood in his way.
But of course, the entire scene was just Zoro and Sanji bickering. He didn't need to say something to everything Sanji says but he can't help himself. Like he needs the final word on everything. So petty of him. Love that.
Even Captain Buggy knew the tension
But when things got to be done. They do it.
My wings of the pirate king.
But Zoro does recognize Sanji as a member of the crew. Because he has the same dumbass frequency as their captain
Sanji can I jump into your arms?
Luffy and Arlong fight scene ... I kinda miss the comedy in between those scenes. I understand how different things are in Live Action. and in live action, it wouldn't work. Or it might and some people may not just get it. But Luffy taking Arlong's teeth and putting it in his mouth, then Arlong asking what's different about himself from Luffy and Luffy answers their noses.
I knew this was about to happen. Didn't think they'd follow my nightmare's playbook.
Usopp hammer where?
Usopp rubberband?
I wanted to see all the tricks in his bag.
But I guess it's okay.
It was near the end so I expected Garp to make his capture. I just didn't think what he'd do about Luffy cause Luffy was going to be a pirate.
But then this
Garp was close to Roger. As someone who chased Roger during Roger's entire career as a pirate, for him to see the similarities, yeah, he could be frightened for his grandson but he also knew that Roger was never captured, so maybe that's why he was testing Luffy.
Luffy's wanted poster! He copied the same pose
No tongue shall rise against gay Koby
Or Helmelpo
Whenever new bounty posters are released I always look forward to everyone else's reaction. Also going back to see how everyone was doing.
Especially shanks.
Cause I love Shanks entire vibe. He's hungover and chilling on some island.
I'm rushing cause I want to watch the series again
One Piece Live Action Episode 7 The Girl with the Sawfish Tattoo
Oda's backstory for his characters has now harmed me emotionally, mentally, and physically (I swear, I got a high fever after this episode and I just recovered, days after I watched the episode) in three different mediums.
Nojiko and Nami's younger counterparts, Belle-mere really knew how to make me happy looking at their found little family that I forgot what was about to happen next.
Was a little upset Genzo didn't have much screen time. Like I understand they want to focus on BelleMere and Nami and Nojiko, but Genzo was a father to them. I wished they included the story bit about BelleMere being a troublemaker and why did they REMOVE THE PIN WHEEL AFTER NAMI WAS GROWN UP?
And this. When I read and watched this the first time, I was angry at her for not lying. Now that I'm a bit older, I'm still angry but I understand now.
I really can't add how much I love Belle Mere.
This was the scene I was anticipating for. I saw someone said that Oda loved Emily's performance for this scene and wastruly happy with it. So I had high expectations and she nailed it.
She captured Nami perfectly this entire episode. The entire season really.
However, I didn't like that Luffy had to hear Nami's backstory.
Luffy in the original never heard it. He left for a walk. And him knowing it just removes the original intention of why Luffy never heard any of his crew's back story. He's usually asleep or is never present.
Anyway, Luffy never set out to help his crew because he heard their situation and he has to do something about it. Rather, he chooses to help for one reason, they're his friend and that's all that matters.
And frankly, I love that more.
Truly happy to see Zoro and Sanji have a hate-flirt relationship.
I know they were cleaning Sanji up a little but thank you for keeping him as a little flirt to everyone.
Like seriously, he hasn't known Sanji, so yes I understand why he's cautious, but him commenting on everything that Sanji says was so petty. He was unconscious, and suddenly his captain, whom he just sworn his life to, brought on another guy, I may be worried too but he paid too close of attention to him.
This was unexpected. Luffy and Sanji were bonding over their similar experiences. Then here comes Garp and Zeff, bonding and talking about the next generation. Garp refuses to let Luffy lead his own life while Zeff entrusts his dream to Sanji.
This may be the first time in the live-action someone compares Luffy to Gold Roger. In the anime, I think it'd be in Drum Island when Kureha compares him to Roger. Or did she? I can't recall clearly. Or was she just talking about the D in both their names.
We don't talk about this. We WILL NEVER SPEAK OF IT
And ending the episode with this iconic scene was brilliant.
One Piece Live Action Episode 6 THE CHEF AND THE CHORE BOY
Never thought I'd be emotional over Sanji's backstory again but the Live Action successfully brought me fear for the days Sanji and Zeff was stranded and see the love between Sanji and his REAL father.
This may be the first time Luffy ever sees a friend close to death after Sabo. You can almost see that he's experienced it before and he's unsure of how to react that he's almost forcing his positivity because he can't think otherwise than Zoro's survival.
Taz got the Sanji smile and I'm so happy about that. I really want them to reach Whole Cake Island. So, I could see the range of emotion from Sanji especially the crying smile after he found Luffy on the battlefield.
And damn the actor didn't have to go this hard for Sanji. But thank you anyway.
I read the man and saw the anime. So when they stayed true to Oda's version, I was concerned for myself cheering over why a man lost his leg.
The young Sanji actor did his work. When I saw his chubby cheeks I was so wrong to laugh at how those cheeks would hollowed out soon.
Love the way they met each other. He liked Sanji not only for the food he cooked, but because he heard of All Blue too.
I still wonder HOW they got on top. Were they carried there by the waves?
Really felt the dread in their situation.
Zeff broke my heart here.
Luffy and Sanji bonding over shared experiences was so good. They added more depth to their relationship and made the bond instant. Honestly, I could bond more with people over emotional trauma than happy times. Friends share more than happy moments is what I believe in.
Not me already thinking he's on his way to share some gossip with Shanks. Like 'Hey, remember the kid you told me about? Is this him?"
Arlong Pirates were the most memorable antagonists in the East Blue Saga so them being the final boss in season 1 was a good choice.
Luffy would do anything for a person who offered him a meal.
Buggy... I need the Live Action to someday reach Impel Down for Buggy reasons.
I love that he was more forward here. Acknowledging Sanji's dreams and never forgetting his own. He just wanted the best for his boy.
They should have kept Luffy and Zeff's conversation though. It was like he was asking Luffy to take care of his son.
Never thought I'd be emotional over this goodbye again but they did it
BONUS
They mentioned Noland. They mentioned North Blue native Noland while introducing other North Blue native Sanji
It's hard being a One Piece fan. We celebrating the success of the series, then given the best episode in the anime and then the manga has just been serving.
Episode 5 has been my favorite episode in the season so far. But that may change soon cause I said I liked Episode 4 after I watched it.
I felt a little for Little Luffy in the flashback. Maybe because Garp was an actual human being and Little Luffy wasn't doing his cute little whine when his Grandpa was scolding him that I was actually sad for Luffy not having someone to support his dream of piracy.
But Garp was still Garp and I know he cares about his grandson. I still cry during the flashback when Luffy was climbing up the platform to Ace. Garp was carrying Luffy home and Garp was apologizing for being such a cruel grandpa and that maybe he wanted a different grandpa. But Luffy just nuzzled his head into his grandpa's back and called out to him in his cute little tone and Garp said they'd have a feast back home because he took a lot from the marine ship.
Damn. They're about to give Garp the Fist of Love and Galaxy Impact
I could almost hear him say "As expected of my grandson"
Luffy willing to stand up to his grandpa for his dream. Even if it meant that he may be arrested.
I swear without Nami they'd be broke and lost at sea.
The dynamic between Nami and Zoro, being the first two people Luffy ever recruited was so brother-sister looking after their younger brother coded.
The set designer for this show deserves all the awards. Like seriously wherever they docked the real thing I want to see it.
My favorite All Blue dreamer
I wished they kept to the scene in the manga. Like Luffy's first impression of Sanji and why he asked him to be part of his crew was not because he was a good fighter nor because he liked his food, Luffy hasn't eaten anything Sanji made yet, but he asked Sanji to be part of his crew was because Sanji fed Gin when everyone else tried to kick him out of the restaurant. He saw Sanji's kindness and wanted him to be part of his crew.
This is why there is a lock in the fridge in Sunny and giant mousetraps
I believe in the theory that there's no one in Laugh Tale or they could be vegans. Cause Luffy would have found One Piece already if someone was cooking there.
After seeing Arlong, Nami's happiness became very important to me
He promised to pay with a treasure tab. He made the same promise to Makino. I really hope he returns to Foosha Village and pays that tab cause Makino's a mom now.
Luffy and Sanji conversing about their dream with bright looks on their faces is very important to me.
I love that this is what they're bonding over.
I can't tell if this is Sanji's signature fried rice
I liked Buggy's intro. BUT Mihawk's intro, destroying Don Krieg's fleet, became my absolute fave bounty intro.
I know he and Shanks fought a lot over the years so he easily recognized the hat. And I know he knows about Luffy. Not by name. But because Shanks lost his arm to a boy in East Blue and he probably made the connection. So him mentioning the hat really got me excited.
I love Zoro and Mihwak's duel. They perfectly recreated the battle and really did justice to the moment that defined Zoro's entire brain chemistry as a pirate, Strawhat first mate and Luffy's best friend.
Den Den Mushi Appreciation
Love they're incorporating more designs to the Den Den Mushi. In the anime Garp had a megaphone so this was so in the world tone
