So the Lindwyrms are a race of demons living in the outer lava lakes of Avarice, descended from another kind of demon, the Scalis (aka reptoids), which still exist today. They're hatched with tight patches of skin in their trachea, which tear open when they hit puberty, forming the runes they use for their breath magic. Sometimes they have more than one, which augments their attacks in any combination of ways. The scar tissue can affect their ability to speak, although most Lindwyrms live solitary lives, so this doesn't matter much to them.

The Lindwyrms share their scaly hide with their ancestors the Scalis, although to a much higher degree. Lindwyrm scales can easily repel molten lava, and this combined with their powerful tails and wings makes them formidable on their home turf. For extra defence, they can let the liquid rock and metal harden in-between their scales, creating almost impenetrable armour.

Lindwyrms are less aggressive than you might think, or at least to much of demonic society. Their main food source comes from the Carnivex, a hive of wasp-like demons created to serve their archdemon queen. Their scaly hide and rocky armour makes the drones' stingers ineffective, allowing for quick and devastating raids on the hive.

Ngl tho I bet living in lava lakes makes them very warm to the touch like living hot water bottles :)
