An Update from the Edge of Despair

The past few months have been so draining that it’s as though I no longer have energy left for anything else.

I’ve experienced being drained because of work before but this is on another level.

It’s hard to explain the context of my entire dilemma to somebody who doesn’t know me on a personal level; how I’ve been working at this same company for almost four years and only one year into my stay with them, I was already burnt out—wasted, absolutely drained, even more depressed than my high school and college years.

You might be wondering why I stayed even though they ruined all the hope I had for this career of mine but even I can’t explain that to you. Every time I made my move to leave, they got in the way and they always found a way to make me stay. The first was a raise (the likes of which I never saw again), the next was hiring new people to “help” me (note: they left after a few months and were never really much in the area of “help”), the last one was overloading me with so much work that I couldn’t find a way out (which was the most effective tactic they used against me because they dropped so much shit on me that by the time the pandemic took hold, I couldn’t leave because I had to be grateful to still have work while others were being dropped like flies).

The last stunt they pulled on me, to drown me in work, has been going on for over a year.

The burnout that manifested in my first year has transcended that level now. I’m cooked to a crisp. I’m the muck and gunk and fried up bits that you find in your pan. I’m a walking corpse.

Fortunately, I have managed to put my foot down and decide that enough is enough. I can’t let this continue. They can’t keep abusing my need to please people and get work done on time. They can’t keep having me work so many more hours than anybody else in our company (for some reason, I’m the only one who never seems to get off work since this pandemic started because gee, they have me on a 24/7 rotation AND I know this for a fact because I see my other colleagues posting updates on social media that they’re off doing God knows what with whoever the hell knows DURING work hours WHEN I CAN NEVER SEEM TO CATCH A BREAK [and even when I asked for some job orders to be passed on to the ones with infinitesimal amounts of free time, my supervisors says no because they’re taking a break, like!!!! WHEN WILL I GET THAT CHANCE???]).

I’m done, I’m signing off, I’m going to catch a break, and my hair is going to finally start growing back (I lost so much due to stress and anxiety).

Side note: I’m really liking the title I came up with so I’m probably going to keep using that for life updates and all that shit. It’s pretty self-explanatory that the “Edge of Despair” is where I’m physically placing myself aside from it being my on-going mental state lmao.
