The sunshine court depicts the disconnect between Jean who was stuck in a literal cult for so long and the Trojans who have a completely different view of both exy and life itself so well.

Both inside and outside of the court there are so many moments where they, especially Jeremy and Jean, don’t understand each other,don’t understand how the other can’t fathom something that’s so normal to them.

And it’s so important because it helps Jean slowly realize that what he went through was not, in fact, normal. That he didn’t deserve any of it.

Jeremy tries so hard to both make Jean feel comfortable and safe (holding onto the buddy system for instance) and yet help him unlearn everything harmful that he was forced to live with in the nest.

In the end, clearly it pays off.

I’m sure all of us were very happy to see Jean ripping those fucking notebooks up.
