Damn that makes sense

Thinking about Water 7, that shit hurts man.

Usopp has spent his journey so far up to Water 7 being afraid but always there to do what he can I.e his team up with Chopper against baroque works or the entire Syrup village arc. But Usopp being the negative guy he is, cannot see himself as anything other than worthless.

So seeing the Merry falling apart, getting mugged because in his eyes he was weak, and then finding out Merry was being abandoned was the snap in his entire being. He couldn’t take it and he and Luffy fight.

And the thing is both of them know Merry can’t go any further. They both know she needs to be rested for the crew and for her sake. But with how Luffy delivers the message it’s clear he didn’t think it through and his emotions get the better of him. And with their fight, it really does feel like two 17 year olds fighting simply because 17 year olds make mistakes. But at the same time, there is far more maturity here.

Usopp fights with everything he’s got and challenges Luffy as a captain and what that means. And for Luffy, he fights Usopp at all.

Luffy knows how to not start fights, Jaya is a good example. But even in his most immature moment and even if to some extent he was holding back he still fought Usopp because he was owning up to his mistakes and because he knew Usopp needed this.

Even if Usopp lost, it was proof of something for Usopp and Luffy knows this and that’s why he lets him go and why he knows he needs to grow.

I can’t help but think that this entire fight was some weird cryptic way of Luffy saying I’m sorry.

Spoilers for the 4.6 Arlecchino story quest

Honestly I think it was pretty good but I also feel like it fell in some places

That one kid who ratted out the others was pretty interesting as a simple consequence of his environment. I think the formatting of cutscenes and the still images was a neat idea and Clervie and Arle’s story was the highlight because even with the knowledge we players have we still learned new things and waited in anticipation for what the characters would find out.

But I also feel like Hoyo absolutely chickened out with making Arle too evil. Like they made her sort of morally dubious but then stopped before she could get more interesting. I said before in another post I don’t mind her legitimately caring for the Hearth kids but I also feel like there should have been more consequence with the fact she bluntly stated she kills traitors. With what the story does with the bottled flames it kind of feels weird and also negates the sadness of characters like the Hearth kids who were implied to have died in Sumeru or Lyudochka and the work she did to escape.

Also I have weird feelings on the fight and with Traveler escaping her grasp but then being unable to actually win. I might make another post about that but in short I get the idea but I feel it was really poorly done

Anyway, where’s the Traveler lore Hoyo cause this quest made me want the Traveler lore

Choosing mitski songs for the strawhats

Tw for the strawhats in general I guess, just in case (Also going in backwards order)

Jimbei: A horse named cold air

I think the lyrics and the slow pace of the song fit him. The idea he started out as a brash fast paced horse who ran like a storm fit his more brash personality when he was on Fisher tigers ship. The line "A pond with no fish" could also represent the suffering his people have gone through. The sin could be the mistakes he's made and Jimbei having to accept them and understand the next step he should take as a pirate.

Brook: A burning hill

The piano and the entire song is about grief are what do it for me. Brook knowing he had to watch then live with the sorrow of his crews death and being everything about it at once, the lost and the found- the watcher and the being. But he decides to still be clean and walk out and enjoy life because its what he can do and its what he will do for his friends and for Laboon.

Franky: Why didn't you stop me?

The first verse gives off the impression of Franky himself asking why he ended his dreams, why he didn't stop to think about the consequences of his creations. The electric guitar and the empty spaces of music also leave room for Franky not needing to repeat what he knows about himself. The second verse could be either him or Iceburg trying to talk to each other and finding it hard to understand who they are- brothers or enemies. Paint it over also reminds me of Franky trying to paint a new version of himself or paint the Sunny for his dream.

Nico Robin: First love/Late Spring

First love is simply Robin's first time since Ohara being able to love, and Late Spring is how late its come. Crying like a tall child is similar to her epithet of devil child and her unresolved trauma. She hopes and hurries that the strawhats can leave her because their love is so much, so new- its too much for her to hold all at once. She had to behave far older then she was as a child and going home is something she doesn't want if it means harming her family. One word from the government will be the decider of what she does, but the straw hats words are what make her stay with them.

One piece female characters are so weird honestly

Their designs are either the same over sexualized body type with the same face or a caricature. Their clothing always follows the same weird style and most of the time teams only have one of them. And sometimes they just get the shit end of the stick (Tashigi is my best example)

But like

I adore these girls. They’re always so different and varied in personality and motivations. They always have a point in the plot only they could solve and are doing everything they can for what they care about. Hell, Vivi fighting tooth and nail and clenching on for her country is what hooked me on One piece in the first place

All of these female characters are different and surprise me from what I expected. The abuse Chiffon and Pudding went through from their mother, Rebecca and Violas attempts to get back their country, Otohime’s exhaustion from trying to make things better, the implied horrors Boa and her sisters have gone through.

And of course, Nami and Robin. Two women who are the cornerstones of One pieces best arcs because they were given the moment to shine
