I first heard about aromanticism on social media just a couple of years ago. From that moment it was a relatively short time before I realized that aromanticism was the explanation for that teenage me, unable to understand and, after all, even wanting the first strange crushes.

On the one hand I believed that my distance from romantic love was simply a character trait, on the other -as time passed- I began to wonder if I didn't have some kind of problem that prevented me from falling in love or even having a real crush.

Discovering aromantcism and feeling unreservedly welcomed under this huge green umbrella gave me tremendous relief and joy. All the pieces finally fit together and I embarked on a beautiful journey of self-discovery and awareness of the all the new ways I could relate to the world.

I still have a thousand and one questions about coming out to those who have never heard of aromanticism (the first person I attempted it with asked me why I had "made this choice") and how to deal with the low regard there is for this orientation, even within the LGBTQIA+ community.

However, today I "just" want to thank wholeheartedly people who every day, on social media and otherwise, strive to spread information about this magnificent orientation. You have changed my life.

Hello a-community,

being aromantic is my mood, my lifestyle. A part of me has always known I was aro. But discovering I was ace was quite a shock.

I've always talked about sex without problems, I have a proper sexual education, I have humour about it, too! I read books with (a few) spicy scenes. I just thought it couldn't be possible.

Well, it was. For me you're charming, beautiful like a picture or a sculpture and I really want to know you and be friends with you, but I have no idea if you're sexy. I have no idea what sexy means or feels or what. And I'm sorry, but I would never actually have sex with you. I think.

But it's okay that I still can't label myself exactly and it's okay even if I'll never can. In situation like these you just need to take your time.

Enjoy the time you spend discovering yourself. Enjoy yourself.

Today I met again the fake crush/ façade boyfriend I was with in middle school...

It's been a long time and now I have realized he was one of my huge attempts to be like everyone else. A failed attempt: I felt really bad -almost sick- all the time when we were together (and it didn't last much because I couldn't bare it).

Idk how I didn't understand I was Aro back then. It's so obvious now.😑

I felt a bit guilty looking at him now, but it's okay I guess. I was young and I didn't know and I wasn't ready to, so I did my best.

It isn't your fault you can't romantically love people back. It never will be and it definitely never was.

134 years ago, an important italian author probably looked at amatonormativity around him and discovered it wasn't as pure as it pretended to be.
