do you have strong feelings about minnie? the way disney writes her bothers me severely, i'm trying to find out how to write her better and i'd like help!
she's always written as nothing more than a mickey genderswap, they have the exact same character strengths and flaws, i want to write her like how ortensia is written to oswald or daisy is written to donald (in. ducktales 2017 at least when they dont feel like being . so toxic.), theyre character foils and they work better together
for example daisy is more practical and sassy and headstrong?? while donald isn't very practical he is very emotional and in the moment and isnt as ambitious as her he's just a guy
but minnie doesnt compliment mickey in any way their relationship is just Same Braincell Teehee
and its like every time disney TRIES to have friction between the two its usually making minnie less interesting than mickey in the sense he's going off the walls insane and she has to fold her arms and make him stop, w donald and daisy donald has to ground daisy sometimes but minnie can usually do no wrong ever??
i want to write minnie as mickey's foil in a similar way because she's always a copy and paste mickey and she deserves so so so much more, but im also worried that making a foil for mickey would stray too far from minnie's personality range?? which is why i keep referencing donald and daisy specifically because they have similar personalities but still manage to be foils, and i ALSO dont want to make her copy and paste ortensia, WHILE ALSO NOT MAKING HER JUST LESS INTERESTING MICKEY AS THEY DO SOMETIMES by just writing her as feminine mickey without the character flaws he has, so its a really weird balancing act here
You hit the nail on the head with a lot of points here. I've always found Minnie to be the MOST sidelined out of the 5 in terms of characterization. She's almost always written as "girl mickey", very interchangeable with him, not really developed with her own personality in mind independent of her relationship with Mickey.
I guess on a lot of levels I consider Minnie and Mickey to be like... really sturdy nuts. They have these extremely tough shells surrounding them, they are two of the most private people you will ever meet. Outwardly friendly, outwardly pretty boring and unemotional, a pretty vanilla flavored couple at any way you look at them.
But, we don't really get to see what goes on under that shell. What they're like in private. My favorite stories with Mickey are the ones where they crack open the shell, even just a smidge-- and we get to look on the inside. What we see is almost always the same. Above all else, Mickey cares about his friends. Mickey cares about his friends so much that he would take a bullet for each of them. He would give up everything. Friendship means more than anything else to Mickey Mouse.
On the flipside, we don't really get that same introspection with Minnie. I can't think of a time where they let her be emotional, like that. She's sweet and patient and polite and filled to the brim with goodness and kindness, but that's just what her shell looks like. She's very, very reserved. Like Mickey, maybe even moreso.
A lot of this is definitely because the writers don't really care about Minnie on that level, because she's Woman and she's Girlboss and whatnot. When they show her being emotional, it's pretty much always played up for laughs because Women Are Emotional amiright wink wink nudge nudge 😁🔫 <- (he does not know he is playing into misogynistic tropes)
But I like to think she just has these incredibly sturdy walls around her character. You will most likely never get to see what her private self is like in the entire time that you know her. I seriously doubt Minnie's actual friends know that much about her.
Mickey cares about his friends, but what does Minnie care about...? Where Mickey is an optimist, I consider Minnie to be a pessimist. That is a very strange claim to make, I know. But I think the reason we never see her walls break down is because... there'd just be more walls. She's such an incredibly reserved individual, she'd rather stick her hand in a paper shredder than admit that she's got feelings.
She's pretty no-nonsense in that regard, too. Mickey is a compassionate guy, but Minnie is more quick to lash out and start kicking and yelling when someone pisses her off. Tying back to the whole "friendship is Mickey's emotional core" thing... friendship is definitely not Minnie's.
I'm not saying she's not friendly. She's incredibly friendly! She's such a sweet and affectionate individual. But it's all very much an outward thing. I think, if you're looking for a "foil", that's definitely where they clash in that regard. Mickey is a plain, unassuming guy who-- at his core-- is sweet and silly and compassionate, and motivated by his love for his friends. Minnie is outwardly sweet and silly and compassionate, but doesn't have that same motivating factor, the deeper you look.
In the end, this is all really my interpretation of Minnie's character. Because she is definitely a victim of misogynistic writing, which sucks 🤷‍♀️ But I do think there is a lot of potential to make her and Mickey clash a lot more often than they're shown to... because, they don't really show themselves to anybody! That sort of intimate exploration of their character is something that really only comes out with each other. Which leaves a lot of room to mold their inner personalities into something much more interesting...

Me and my partner @the-good-ol-art-corner collaborated on this AWESOME poster for one of our favorite Bendy Aus @toontiedterror by @dictatortirah !! I am in LOVE with how it came out and I am so excited to see how this story and world develops!!
I put so many details into this, it is absolutely silly, but I had a swell time doing them. Those headshots on the missing posters belong to the staff from our own Bendy project @howdy-folks-its-showtime and we didn't even intend to make two versions. But I put so much into the background... I just had to make a version without the foreground to show it off <3

I have so many questions about the au is you don’t mind:
How old is Peter? How did hook meet tinkerbell, did zarina ask her to watch Peter because she trusted her? What kind of relationship does Peter have with hook or for that matter zarina? Do they ever go in hate dates or have hate hookups (pun not intended)?
I think this au is really cool and am a sucker for Peter Pan stuff, this blog is quickly becoming my favorite. Please go into as much detail as you feel comfortable!
Oooooh fun!
Peter is eleven
Hook met Tinkerbell after posting an add for babysitters and Tinkerbell heard about Peter from Zarina.
Zarina didn't ask her but Tinkerbell figured it was the right thing to do since from what she's seen of Hook, Peter needs somebody looking out for him.
Peter and Hook have a strained relationship, Hook didn't want Peter (he only got custody of Peter slandering Zarina in the courtroom for the sake of getting more in the divorce) Peter still has fun calling Hook "Codfish" and basically never calls him dad, at best he's getting is a first name basis. Peter is still a rebellious lil guy but he doesn't start being happy until Tinkerbell enters and actually tries to form a connection. They have moments, Hook is trying he's just VERY stubborn and has a short fuse which is not a good combo for a parent. Hence why Tinkerbell does most of the parenting.
Zarina has some lingering guilt Peter has to live with Hook but beyond that they don't really talk and Peter knows he wasn't exactly planned so doesn't really believe Zarina feels anything for him at all. He views Tinkerbell as his mom more than Zarina. Zarina always focused more on her work than Peter (not intentionally but as a result they never really formed a solid relationship foundation and don't know how to feel about each other)
I'd say the suburban au Hookdust relationship does have hate dates although they look at it more as "catching up" or "making sure they're not planning anything" or "discussing child support" and nine times out of ten they end up getting drunk reminiscing about the past and flirting.
... maybe? Haven't really thought about it. They definitely kiss tho now that you ask they probably do on rare occasions, but I'd imagine afterwards they keep that shit under lock and key. It takes a while for anyone beyond them to realize because even they are very keen on not bringing it up ever.
And as for Hook and Tinkerbells relationship it is super super professional on Hooks end, very very awkward on Tikerbells end. He still calls her "Miss bell" and tries his best to be polite but he's not sure how to really deal with Tinkerbells sass and jabbing at his obvious shitty parenting. Tinkerbell regularly sarcastically asks him about the stick up his ass and is very frustrated at Hooks old man not understanding kids are people-ness.

I believe that the only reason Vlad and Maddie didn't have children in Masters of All Time is it would raise a heavy moral conundrum that the writers didn't want to tackle in a kids show.
Tumblr media
Because if that door had opened up and Danny had seen Vlad and Maddie's kids, he'd have to deal with the terrible fact that by trying to fix his own timeline, he'd be erasing his own half-siblings from existence. Not to mention Vlad and Maddie's relationship, their happiness, the life they'd built together. Still ridiculously in love after 20+ years.
Tumblr media
Maddie would undoubtedly love her and Vlad's children just as much as she loves Danny and Jazz in their own timeline, and there's no question how much Vlad would cherish his kids.
And supposing that Vlad couldn't father children for some reason, I think he'd be completely on board with adoption. (So even if Danny wasn't wiping people out of existence, he'd be denying them a loving home and family.) The absence of children is just downright baffling, given the evidence we've seen of Vlad's character. The man was dying for a family, desperate to love and be loved. (See: Maternal Instincts, Secret Weapons, Kindred Spirits.)
Tumblr media
But no offspring meant no "loose ends" to deal with, no baggage, no sticky moral conflicts. Because Danny would certainly be conflicted by a situation in which he had to unmake his half-siblings. In Kindred Spirits we saw how he hadn't wanted to harm Danielle, who was essentially his own DNA assembled by Vlad; by this same principle, I don't think he'd want to hurt his half-siblings, even if they were made by worst enemy.
If the writers had shown Vlad and Maddie happily married with kids, if the audience had sympathized with Vlad, then Danny would be the villain for wanting to rip that family apart.
(Also, they had to show Vlad doing a complete 180 and going full Evil Diabolical Villain with a side order of Lying Husband at the end of the episode, just to reinforce the idea that This Guy Is And Always Will Be The Bad Guy And Don't You Forget It.)

The Time Between
Word Count: 676
Summary: Vlad mulls over what to do with Danny after he passes out upon defeating Pariah Dark.
Preview: What am I going to do with you, Little Badger? Vlad wondered as he floated through the Ghost Zone.
He considered taking Daniel all the way back to Wisconsin, then promptly dismissed the idea as quickly as it had come. No, that wouldn’t do. Daniel would wake up and start throwing blasts of ectoplasm around with no regard for the safety of himself, Vlad, or Vlad’s material possessions. Wisconsin wouldn’t do at all.
A/N: The fact that Vlad apparently carried Danny back to his house at the end of Reign Storm has been living literally rent free in my mind since I first watched that episode. I’ve gone feral and unhinged over the thought and in my mind that is the start of Vlad’s domestication arc, so I’ve written this as such XD
Everything that happened after is barely canon bc I feel fine and normal about how Vlad’s characterization was totally butchered :/
Vlad had been gloating, gloating, mere moments ago. Delighting in Daniel’s surprise as he locked Pariah in his tomb. It really was just chess, Daniel.
Then the boy’s eyes rolled back in his head and he slumped against the seat of the exo-skeleton.
Vlad deflated, the wind taken right out of his sails, taking half a step forward as his brows pushed together with a frown.
It almost wasn’t an odd reaction, all things considered, if Vlad wrote off the feeling as nothing more than disappointment that his formally captive audience was now unconscious. Which was what he was was doing. Because there was something else there, something that looked an awful lot like concern, or care, or maybe even a flash of something protective. Vlad ignored it. Daniel had scorned him, rejected him, and Vlad felt nothing but bitter anger about it.
Definitely nothing else.
He approached the suit.
Daniel was slumped against the seat cushions, the neural receptors already disengaged, and his face so devoid of color it would’ve made a ghost feel positively flushed, with dark circles under his eyes. Vlad pursed his lips. Daniel had over exerted himself, not without good reason mind you, but he’d knocked himself out all the same and someone was going to need to get him home.
Sighing, Vlad pushed the protective dome of the exo-skeleton up, tucking Daniel’s arms across his torso and lifting him easily to his chest. That someone to get him home might as well be him. It was the least he could do, considering Daniel had been ever so kind as to clean up his mess.
“Skulker,” Vlad said, turning towards the ghost who’d been standing so silently beside an equally quiet Fright Knight, he’d almost forgotten they were there. “Do take the suit back to my lab, I’d hate to see it fall back into the wrong hands.” Over his shoulder as he turned to leave he added; “And Fright Knight, I’ll be in touch.”
Skulker and Fright Knight, wisely, only nodded and did not comment on the decidedly gentle way Vlad cradled Daniel to his chest.
***
What am I going to do with you, Little Badger? Vlad mused as he floated through the Ghost Zone.
He could just set Daniel down somewhere in Amity Park, and fire off blasts of ectoplasm like a flare until someone showed up to retrieve him. But… who knows who’d pick him up honestly, and the idea of malicious ghosts or ghost hunters who weren’t his parents getting their hands on him made Vlad’s heart seize in a weird way. He chose to chalk that up to not wanting anyone learning any more about half-ghosts than the “nothing” they currently did.
Vlad was pulled from his thoughts as he readjusted his grip on Daniel. The boy wasn’t heavy, but he wasn’t exactly light either, ghost fighting built muscle whether you wanted it too or not, and Daniel fought a lot of ghosts. He let out a soft sigh, barely more than a deeper breath, really, and curled into Vlad’s chest.
A side effect of his fire core, Vlad thought idly, he put off more heat than the average living person. He was a veritable walking furnace, and to an unconscious teenager who was probably struggling to regulate his own body temperature thanks to his exhaustion, it probably felt downright magical.
Vlad chose to completely ignore what that thought made him feel, and instead heaved a long sigh.
Home. He needed to take the boy home. All the way home.
Maddie is going to love me for this, Vlad thought. Once more choosing ignore the way the thought of getting his arch-nemesis back safely to his room placated something in his chest.

Fucked up but interesting idea
Everyone thinks that Vlad knows so much about halfa biology and growth due to his years of experience which is partially true.
He had time on his side to figure out powers but his own inner workings? His now completely messed up biology? And he has duplication as one of his main abilities?
All im saying is the man is an ex-scientist, he's got a fully stocked lab with all the fixings and sharp slicey tools and he can make as many copies of himself as he wants for test subjects.
TL;DR Vlad in order to find out more about his halfa biology performed vivisections on himself in the name of science :)

A question for the Phandom
I'm curious what y'all think because:
Vlad has so many connections in the Ghost Zone. Culturally, he knows how the zone works. He knows about the Ghost King. He knows about Vortex. In a lot of ways, he knows more about ghosts than Maddie or Jack. And it's a knowledge that can't be explained by just having access to the ghost zone for only a few months.
But!
In the show, he is constantly stealing inventions from Jack and Maddie. He CAN invent, but his inventions always seem to happen a step behind Maddie and Jack. And when his portal exploded, he didn’t try to make another. He just tried to steal the Fenton portal.
So, who really built the first working ghost portal?
Did Vlad invent it long before Maddie and Jack and just kept it quiet?
Or did he steal Fenton blueprints and make his own?

Danny Phantom Randomness (Vlad’s The Real Villain Here!)
Tumblr media
I think I talked to someone about this before, but has it ever struck anyone else as odd that the Observants only went after Danny and not Vlad to quote “save the future?” Sure, Danny’s ghost half was the main portion of Dan, but if you stop to really think about it Vlad’s actually the one to blame for driving him mad because future Vlad tells the current Danny point blank:
“And when my evil ghost half mixed with yours, my evil side overwhelmed you…”
This is important to note because the Danny of that timeline was grief-stricken, angry at the world, and ashamed of himself for failing to save his friends and family. So when Vlad removed his ghost half, instead of making them go away all those emotions became twice as strong. Especially the anger part since Danny must have thought Vlad did this to him on purpose instead of doing what he promised which was to take away all of his painful human emotions. Mind you, Vlad might not have shown it but I think he was grieving Maddie’s death too and probably blamed Jack more than ever for that rather than Danny. Either way, Vlad’s evil side completely took Danny’s mind, creating this new person who both was and wasn’t either of them.
That said, even at his lowest moments Danny has never done anything I’d call “pure evil,” including when Freakshow had him under hypnosis. Sure he was a snarky jerk and attacked his friends, but in the end he snapped out of it before crossing the line. When he became Dan though…there was no one left to bring him back from the brink. Nothing worth fighting for except taking out his rage on everyone who ever hurt him and making sure that NO ONE would ever hurt him again by becoming someone far worse than Vlad could ever hope to be. At least at that point in time if we don’t count everything that happened in the new timeline once Dan was beaten.
So long story short you’d think the Observants would want to take care of the root of the problem, aka Vlad since I believe he’s the true source of Dan’s evil. Danny was just a kid who didn’t know how to handle the loss of his friends and family whereas Vlad used his deep-rooted hatred of Jack to as an excuse for every bad thing he’s done since the portal accident back in college. Then again, they probably thought getting rid of Danny would be easier since to his credit Vlad is more than a match for them or anyone else they might try to throw at him.
As for getting Clockwork involved, while warning Vlad about Maddie and Danny’s possible death’s if he doesn’t change his ways might be enough to stop him for a little while, on the other Vlad might just do what he usually does and take advantage of that information instead which would only make him a bigger target. Vlad would most likely try to use Danny’s fear of becoming Dan as a manipulation tool or a way to throw him off his game during their battles. In a worse case scenario Vlad could go so far as to try to recreate Dan without anyone dying just so he could turn Danny into some kind of evil minion as a last resort since the cloning thing obviously failed…
Anyways, my point is it would be interesting to see an alternate version of “The Ultimate Enemy” where its Vlad being targeted instead of Danny to save the future from Dan. Who knows, it could end in another team up after Vlad finally realizes he IS the true villain here.
