Whenever I am asked why did you get a bird tattoo? My answer to them, because it signifies peace, freedom and spirituality. This is a complete lie I prepared to feed people. . Why did I actually get a bird tattoo? . . . As a curious child, I used to check out my dad's weird snake tattoo on his bicep and the name of his mother 'Shiv' engraved on his wrist and I used to interrogate him again and again about how he got them and will they stay forever? Did it hurt? How did they make it? He used to answer all my queries very patiently. The little girl was fascinated. . This tattoo is dedicated to the little girl in me who believes she is her dad's little bird. She has all the freedom to live and explore the open sky out there. . 3 days, 3 girls from 3 states. We saw each other almost after 6 years post schooling in 2018, then we met again for this trip in March, 2019. A trip of our lifetime as we like to call it. I happen to know these beautiful souls from my Pune school. Dips made me comfortable instantly and I knew even though she did not like the fact that I can't even do my makeup, she is going to be in my life. Shre also switched school like I did, came from another state just like me. Three of us started sitting together and this was it. I got them for life. Shre wanted to see Rishikesh before she flew the country, so we did. Its been an year and we still talk about it because it wasn't just a trip, it was like a therapy we all needed at that time in our lives. We became each other's strength, ever since we keep checking up on each other. Even when we all live miles away from each other and one of us has switched continents altogether. They arrived in Delhi a day before, we went sightseeing and we did not sleep all night and took our early morning train to Haridwar, we slept like logs in that train ride. The resort cab picked us up and as soon as we could see that crystal clear water on our way, we were breathing a little better. We reached our apartment and the picture you see was the view from our balcony. We practically spent hours on that balcony and talked about life as we know it. We didn't just sit around, we rented scooties and we did not leave a place unmarked in our list. We roamed around like free birds and the city was welcoming and safe. They even made me go river rafting. On our last night, we sat outside around the bonfire and we were talking about what we want in our lives, that's it. It was our 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dubara' moment. I have this weird habit that I can't stop until I read atleast 3 books from an author. Another weird habit, even if I do not enjoy a particular book. I still finish it but Paulo Coelho books don't fall in this category. I loved all three of them. Also, this quarantine is finally hitting me hard. This was my first trip to Goa, South Goa to be precise. I did not want to visit North Goa because why would a person who lives near Hauz Khas in New Delhi would prefer North Goa, you can just go to HKV if you want crowded pubs and booze, saves you all the trouble (totally personal & biased opinion, you can go wherever you like, it's your time & money). My trips are always very personal to me and I like to go with people I love, I like places less explored and not so crowded. I like to roam around, talk to locals, try local cafes. But when it comes to food, I become choosy, the North Indian inside me pops out from deep down. I can't help it, trust me, it's not in my control. Anyways, I chose the quietest beach with just right amount of tourists, and my bnb was hardly 300 metres from the beach. The picture did not do justice to this place. It was so simple yet breathtakingly beautiful. I had the best company with me, I could not imagine going on this trip with someone else. We watched sunrise and sunsets together, we took walks along the beach, we talked about everything and anything. We ran along the beach, I ran! I don't remember when was the last time, I ran so freely. There are only few people out there who absolutely brings out the best in you and when you find such people, you keep them close because trust me you are going to need them more than they will ever need you. One of my favourite writers is Khaled Hosseini (a doctor turned writer). He is an inspiration. You can't just read his books, you feel them, you live them. He is a true storyteller. I have read all three of his books but 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' took my heart away. I never read same book twice but I picked this one up after years because I was starting to forget few parts of it and it made me feel anxious, those of you who have not read it. Let me summarize it for you.. It's a story of two women (Laila and Mariam) with different upbringing and mindsets, set in the war times in Afghan, losing their loved ones on every step, struggling to survive in a men's world. It is a deeply moving story of love and friendships. As a 21st century woman, I instantly connect to Laila but I can feel the struggle of Mariam too, you can't ignore it because it's so well described. This book is so dear to me, it plays a major part in my early life to bring out the feminist inside me. Not that it's offending to men by portraying only negative roles. Feminism is always misunderstood. Disclaimer: Feminism does not promote disgracing men in anyway. Do give it a try and fall in love with an outstanding narration. Christmas 2019, I went to Mussoorie with one of my best friends. Hills are always welcoming and I personally love going to hilly regions in winters. The warmth of winter sun and the freezing nights is just overwhelming. Pro- Less tourists, more serene. Also, I went all the way to meet with my friend's special someone and to leave a thankyou note at Ruskin Bond's house, so we decided to walk from mall road, Mussoorie to Lal Tibba (which is around 4 kms) and in between we made a stop at Landour to fulfill my wish. I had no idea that it will be so pleasant and become one of my cherished memory from this trip. We took a break in a cafe on our way and it turns out to be a beautiful little place with a cordial atmosphere. We spent there an hour sitting around, sipping coffee and having fresh baked cookies. Gypsy is defined as a free soul, a nomadic person who wanders from one place to another. This place gives you a vibe of a temporary home with soothing trance music and chilling ambience. The place is vibrant and walls are full of graffiti. A lake view balcony and floor seating is just so comforting and peaceful. I could spend my whole day there. Food is good and reasonable. Their masala chai took my heart away. The service is sublime and the owner of the cafe takes your order himself with a heartwarming smile.
