The Integrated Security Force is a crucial tool the Hive uses to maintain control over its occupied territories.

In theory, the ISF would serve as a paramilitary police force that consisted of a combination of Hive Army regulars who opt to stay behind after an invasion, well behaved prisoners of war who volunteer, and local police officers absorbed into the force.

In actuality, the vast majority of ISF members are Hive soldiers who realized that the propaganda they were fed from childbirth about war being awesome was a total lie and who wanted out immediately. After the initial invasion of a town, the staff offices are flooded with requests for transfer to the local ISF. Most prisoners of war refuse to cooperate with the Hive, along with local law enforcement, who usually hide and join the resistance movement instead. In fact, the few locals who do join the ISF are most likely part of the local resistance movement.

While the ISF was intended to be a tool that would support integration of occupied territories into the Hive, it actually became a symbol of Hive oppression and its failure to do so.

also there was an error in the initial manufacturing of their field caps where the icon was printed in the ugliest shade of yellow imaginable. The factory managers refused to cancel the shipment because everything in the mainland Hive is about efficiency and the owners feared rebuke for the slightest delay (even if only a few hour's worth). The bureaucrats just changed the records so that the ISF has the ugliest icon on their caps in the entire Hive (and it's the only one that has that shade. every other unit has the same color of yellow EXCEPT this one).

Bridget Terral is the co-leader of the resistance and works closely with Lord Denzel Bernard in overseeing the movement's operations. She used to participate in missions herself---something that made Denzel nervous, given her importance to the resistance---and on one ill fated mission, she nearly died. She doesn't care but Denzel uses it as an excuse to keep her in base and to make her focus on the long term strategic side of the resistance.

She was a baker in civilian life. She had a husband but he was conscripted into the Hive's Foreign Legions and is off somewhere. She's holding out hope for him.

She has two kids but they're in the town orphanage, since Bridget is "actively" being searched for by local Hive authority. Luckily for her, "active searching" for the Hive's soldiers means going into town and doing whatever they want.

she doesn't need to put those bandages on. she's a slime. she just wakes up every morning and grumbles, "well if i'm staying in base because i'm injured i might as well look the part"

Meet Guardsman Francis! He's a recent transfer to the civilian sector. He used to be a member of the esteemed Field Intelligence until some mysterious but dangerous and really valid circumstances led to the permanent damaging of his wings. He transferred to the Internal Loyalty Service because he needed to make sure he knew nobody from his old unit.

Might do something with him and Inspector Valerie but might not. Anyways he's another "bad guy" in the story.

You see, while Denzel isn't financing and supporting the resistance, he's maintaining a persona as a servile aristocrat helping the occupying regime: The Hive (temporary name probably, idk)

The slimes lived in a vast mountainous region and ain't nobody absorbing that whole region into their nation. Instead, The Hive set up a puppet state with varying levels of "advisors" to oversee operations. See? Look how gracious we are! These losers lost the war and they get to "keep" their nation!

Pictured above is Internal Loyalty Service Inspector Valerie (no last name, beefolk don't have those) coming in for a routine inspection of Lord Denzel Bernard's personal staff. While the occupying government has no doubt of Denzel's loyalty, we wouldn't want to risk any assassins amongst this devout honorary beefolk's staff! After all, there's no way this bumbling, ignorant, and clueless aristocrat could possibly be mixed up in the resistance movement!

Uh so yeah. 2nd post about this universe so it might be here to stay. Might've just jinxed it though so...... yeah

very excitedly trying out my new drawing tablet! check out this fella!

This is Lord Denzel Bernard speaking to the scattered population of slimes hidden across the mountains. He's a younger member of the aristocracy and he'll be damned if the peasant "people" give up on their national identity and the war effort just because 98% of their territories are occupied. He wants to die of old age in a cushy manor! (He's actually a very good leader, closely associating with many people of the lower classes and giving up significant portions of his fortune for the resistance movement and charities as well, there's just a lot of cognitive dissonance happening where he says that he "hates peasants but, oh, not those peasants, they aren't really peasants!" He will be known in future history books as someone who was remarkably progressive for the era, he just has to cut through his conservative upbringing before he realizes it. Lord Bernard is a crucial part of the war effort and the slime resistance movement during their occupation.)

what's the lore? uhhh medieval fantasy comedy video game NPC AIs left running for centuries, gain sentience, the NPCs form their own new world based on a skewed comedic perception of what serious beings are supposed to act like. lots of "if you don't laugh, you'll cry. and we can't cry" vibes

possibly more lore later?? who knows. this has like a 10% chance of becoming an actual thing and an 85% chance of getting thrown away forever and a 5% chance of a third, secret, more elusive option.
