To those who think they're "working hard" and spending "lots of time" (like 90 minutes, i've heard) typing prompts into AI to make "art" -
More than time gets sacrificed when creating the art you feel entitled to plagiarize. While pain and suffering isn't and should never be a pre-requisite for making art, it is inevitably experienced by most artists (physically & mentally) due to the taxing nature of creation.
Michelangelo, when working on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, wrote this letter to Giovanni Da Pistoia:

This is just a small taste of the daily physical & mental experiences of artists, as they create the work you steal with a click of a button. Yet, our struggles are overcome by our personal love for creation, and we endure it for as long as it takes for us to complete our craft.
Can you do the same? Or is this all just a trendy, instantly gratifying gimmick to you?

Digitized and coloured some sketchbook pages :D
[Dandelion Children] This new character is Pepper, Neppie's non-identical twin separated during their childhood. While Neppie was trained by their (immortal) dad as an alchemist, Pepper's upbringing with their mother leads him down a very different path in life.
Pepper's physical prowess makes him a dangerous enemy to have. Together with Neppie's resilience, the two make a great team - if only they were aware of each other's existence.

2024 sketchbook 1
Tumblr media
Finally finished a sketchbook that had been sitting in my childhood home for 8 years 😅 I first started it in 2016 but ripped the first few pages out and never touched it again until January this year.
Eyeliner drawings from life because I left my pens at home xD

Thoughts: At NMA we were always told that sketchbooks were private things, and should be a place to explore ideas, media, write notes, and anything we wanted. But so is my diary; I think these reasons don't have any appeal for me to keep a physical sketchbook.
As a digital artist, the sketchbooking habit truly stuck for me when I began pulling ideas out of my sketchbook and turning them into solid illustrations and ideas on the digital canvas. I began to reap the benefit of of using markers to figure out silhouettes in character design, having really small & non-zoomable canvases to do thumbnails on, and just having a bunch of fun with physical materials.
Anyway, thanks for reading!!

I made this house shield for the academy, only to find out that European house shields don't look like this... ok, that is my bad. I put a lot of time & effort into it and I still like it but never in my life have i misunderstood an assignment as horribly as this one. I blame my Asian heritage for this blunder.

"Just a Fat Grandma" sits in her treehouse all day feasting with her tiny animal friends, but there is much more than meets the eye.
She will make an important appearance in Dandelion Children ^-^

I'm excited to say that after two years of little to no progress, Dandelion Children will finally be getting some pretty meaningful updates this year ^-^
Although most pre-existing characters will stay, their designs have all undergone significant changes and the plot will focus on Neppie's journey rather than Rahn's final days. New characters will also begin showing up in the next few months :) You can check out the Dandelion Children tag on my blog to see previous characters designs and story concepts.
My art goal for 2024 is to tell more stories, and I'm really excited to share with everyone what I've been working on for a while now :) I'm grateful for those who still remember Dandelion Children & hope it isn't too late to begin pushing the story out! xD

The Troupe Master meets his Dear Wyrm in the City of Tears, and inspects his finest craft.

The concept is to draw a meeting between Grimm, the Pale King, and the Hollow Knight. It's a bit difficult to translate from bug to human because sometimes it's not clear if a design element is the bug's body or the clothes they wear.
In the future I think I would design the Hollow Knight with pale hair (as with the Pale King) but for the purposes of this illustration & clarity, they have dark hair.
Tumblr media
The dialogue I keep thinking about during this scene is "Fine craft, dear wyrm."

Before year is out I want to share one last (unfinished) painting sketch - I explored the concept of the judgement of Feanor.
In the new year, I want to complete more polished work. It's a pity because I put a lot of time and thought into my preparatory studies, but my self-confidence plummeted so much this year, I only managed to finish a couple of illustrations. This is a truly awful thing, so I really hope I can apply all the fundamental studies I have been doing this year into the work I enjoy creating.
Thank you guys the support this year - it is a privilege for me to show my work here. Wishing everyone all the best in the new year :)

This is such a lovely moodboard! Captures the vibe I was going for in my illustration. Really love the flashes of colour against a muted environment. Thank you so much for this treat!! ❤️

Here's a small moodboard treat for @navyinks' amazing art, Healer in Training! I fell in love early in the exchange and have been holding on to it since, and have been so excited for @grundyscribbling's wonderful fic, cannot recommend both artist and author enough.

It's September, and you know what that means - @tolkienrsb!
Story: See How They Grow by Grundy
Art: @navyinks’ gorgeous art is here
Rating: G
Warnings: mention of past canon-typical violence/battles
Characters: Elrond, Elros, Maedhros, Maglor
Relationships: Maedhros & Elrond, Maedhros & Maglor, Elrond & Elros
Word count: 11,705
Summary: Elrond wasn't born a great healer. Some would have said living among Feanorians was an unlikely place to start that journey. (Maglor probably would have agreed with them.)
