Hurt/comfort, fluff, slight angst, slightly suggestive 🤨

You trained so hard for this day, practiced everything from knightly poses to helping the city as much as you could for hardly any pay. Some told you it was over working but you desperately wanted to be accepted. You wanted to continue helping others and you longed for the next step of that. But life wasn't always fair. You were on your way to try outs, people cheered for you with their hearts believing you were more than capable to become a knight. Excitement filled your bones and nervousness kicked in as you were greeted with the Knights of Favionus doors.

With giving everything you've got in the try outs, you were sure you'd be able to get accepted. You worked so hard right? Had the gods witnessed your hard work as well? Walking back home, so many thoughts raced through your head. Days went by waiting for a note, you never gave up on waiting for a response and you dreamed of wearing the uniforms and going on so many missions. Even possibly working with your boyfriend the calvary captain, Kaeya. You had met during your practice on becoming a knight and he was impressed to say the least.

Finally after a week of waiting, a letter came in. Reality kicked in as you read the note.

"We would like to inform you that unfortunately the Knights of Favionus believed you didn't meet the requirements to become a knight. We were impressed by your mastery of your swordsmanship but it was not what we were looking for. Please don't be discouraged, there are always other try outs being hosted.

"What...?" Confusion and sorrow began creeping in. Had this been a mistake? But your name had been at the beginning so it couldn't have been.

"Was I really not good enough?" You had worked so hard for this opportunity, had they turned a blind eye to what you've been doing? Tears started seeping out of your eyes and you didn't hold them back. So many thoughts raced through your head to the point of insanity. You were laughing hysterically as tears slipped down your face. You wanted to rip your hair out, all that training, all that practice, all those times Kaeya trained with you, the times he believed in you. It was for nothing. All of it was for nothing. Laughs turned into loud sobs, into cracked whimpers and weeps. How would you face everyone now?

You didn't leave your house for several days, completely ignoring the fact that there was people out there who need your help, who wanted to see you. Knocks were at your door but you didn't bother to answer until your heard a particularly familiar voice.

"Kaeya, he can't see me like this! Not when I'm such a wreck!"

"Hey its me Kaeya, please open your door. I know what happened and im really worried about you," his voice wasn't like usual, it had a mix of sadness and worry.

"G-give me a second please!" You rushed to the bathroom to try and freshen up, making sure he didn't notice how puffy your eyes were. You opened the door and saw kaeya, you wanted to cry again, cry into his arms, but you held in your tears.

"I'm here now..." was the only thing he said before pulling you into a tight embrace. You couldn't help but cry again, but this time it was comforting. You felt safe as you let someone finally help you, maybe that was what you were missing. The ability to ask for help in difficult situations. All this time you had thought being a knight was only helping and protecting others, but you also lacked the trust for them to have your back as well. More tears flowed out like a faucet at that realization.

Kaeya didn't dare speak a word as you both embraced each other for some time. You didn't notice being carried until you felt the familiar sensation of your bed.

"Kaeya...I dont know what to do...I worked so hard for it, I wanted to work with you as well, I wanted to help people more," choked sobs came out and Kaeya rubbed your back.

"Becoming a knight is just a title. I recognized your hard work, and so many others have. Jean was the one who made the decision, i'll talk to her about it tomorrow."

"N-no its fine i just...I dont know, was I not good enough?" You gripped his shirt.

"You were and will always be good enough my love, you've done so many good things for this city and you're so humble about it too. Even without being a knight, so many others see you as one." You were glad for Kaeya's reassurance, the tears started to slow down and you started to get sleepy.

"Stay here i'll get you water ok?"

"Mmhm..." you let him go and started getting under the covers. Few minutes later he came back with the water and some of your favorite snacks.

"Would you mind sitting up for me?" You followed his instructions and grabbed the cup of water gulping it down.

"Would you like to eat these snacks or get out of the house and order something from Good Hunter?" You've been stuck in your house for almost a week and you longed for fresh air.

"I wanna go outside." He gave you a warm smile and nodded his head.

"I'm gonna go take a shower and get ready"

"Alright ill be here if you need anything, I love you darling" Kaeya said genuinely, which made you blush.

"I-love you too," you rushed to the bathroom and he chuckled

Freshly out of the shower, you grabbed a new pair of clothes and it felt weird being in something other than pajamas. As you were about to put your shirt on you heard a knock.

"Ah, dont come in im not done changing yet!" Kaeya didn't listen though and barged in anyway.

"Kaeya! I told you not to come in!" You were blushing profusely.

"Hm? Whats wrong? No need to be shy, I've seen it all before" he smirked and walked toward you.

"Thats not the point!" He didn't seem to stop coming towards you while you covered yourself with the shirt you were about to put on. You slowly felt his hands creep over you waist and you flinched from the cold sensation.

"You always feel so warm," he whispered in your ear, now his hands going up further and his lips on your neck.

"Kaeya...I thought we were going out..."

"Haha we are, I just missed you too much. I'll be done soon..." you felt his smile on your neck and you closed your eyes. His hands, his lips, his voice, it made you realize how much you missed him too. You hung on to him waiting for Kaeya to be done with his little shenanigan. His hands and lips left your body suddenly which made you whine and he laughed.

"Shall we get going? Oh right, you still have to get dressed" he snickered.

"GET OUTT!" you shoved him out the door and he still kept laughing. You hated but loved his teasing. He hadn't even kiss your lips but you already felt so hot all over. As you put on your shirt, you hoped he'd give you more after dinner. Once you were fully dressed, you walked out the door with Kaeya.

"You look absolutely stunning" kaeya kiss your hand and you rolled your eyes, you loved him anyway.

"You better finish where you left off after you take me out." You looked at him in the eye and a smile tugged at his lips.

"Oh? After you were so embarrassed back there? Will you be able to handle it?" You playfully punched his shoulder and he laughed out.

"Are you done?" You said

"Yes yes, let's get going for real" he smiled and took your hand. You smiled back already forgetting what had happened to you.

I usually tend to avoid reading angst cause I can't handle it but I wanted to try writing it for the first time, not too angsty but just enough :] also writing in 3rd person this time, I tend to avoid it cause ill be forced to use "y/n" and I'm not a big fan of that 😭

Prologue

Even during the harshest of winters, when the most vibrant shades of red stick out from the pure snow, and tears spill out on to rosy red cheeks of a death that will never be forgotten, that will forever shine like gold in his memories; Love and beauty shall still find its way through, like the last cherry blossom that still kept its flowers during winter. Or an immortal soul that was destined to befriend the now former geo archon that is Zhongli. The tale of a grim reaper who was responsible for Zhonglis former love for passing on to the after life, and an archon that has retired his name. Listen closely as I tell you this story, for it is surely to be a beautiful one indeed.

"Every living being has its end someday, you know turning back the clock will not work dear Rex Lapis. For death and life are both inevitable." Y/n had said when Zhongli begged them for Guizhong to come back and live again. He was so close to saving her, he witnessed her blood on the blinding snow. Even if there was something y/n could do, it would result in the same scenario that even an immortal archon would go mad over.

"Please y/n...she was the only one, I cant bear to lose her!" Y/n took pity on the god, but if they ever got caught meddling with the dead they would cease to exist. Still knowing this, they implanted a bit of Guizhongs soul into a beautiful cherry blossom tree and sent the rest to the after life.

"Weep no more Rex Lapis, for I have planted a bit of your lovers soul into a cherry tree. But it shall only be located in one tree, so choose wisely." They wipped his tears and gave him a few days to decide. Y/n witnessed the creation of Guili Plains from the geo archon in memory of Guizhong. He came back to the grim reaper and request the cherry tree be planted there.

"Is that your final decision?" Making sure he had no regrets.

"I understand your requirements for this contract, so I accept with no regrets." And just like that you granted his wish.

Every year, Zhongli visits the cherry tree and basks in its presence. He even talks to it as well, not many people visit Guili Plains so he enjoys every second of alone time with the tree and himself. Zhongli had come to adore cherry blossoms from the contract y/n had opposed on him, and on a very peculiar day the grim reaper had disguised themself as a human and now works as a florist who sells flowers for those who have passed. Zhongli could feel their presence once they first came down to earth. Like a shockwave, the memories came back to him almost like he forgot about what had happened a few thousand years ago. He found y/n sitting alone next to a cherry tree, the only cherry blossom tree in liyue, that was Guili Plains.

"Y/n...? Is that you?" They turned around and gave him a small smile.

"Rex Lapis... or should I say Zhongli, its been ages hasn't it? Even when you retired, you still wish to live amongst the people."

"Guizhong loved humans. So I wish to seek the purpose and study their behaviors of such beings. Even when those around me come to pass, ill strive to make good memories with them so I can look back."

They chuckled and turned again to face the tree. "Still the same as ever, I've missed you." A petal landed on their hand but dissolved into ash as living beings cease to exist once a grim reaper has come in tact with it. Because of this, they wear gloves and clothing that wouldn't cause a threat to such a beautiful world. They put back on their glove.

Zhongli say down next to them and they enjoyed a comfortable silence. "I still fondly remember the day when you planted this tree" He spoke.

"Thank you for doing that...I would have crumbled without knowing she would never live on to see this world again." Though he grew numb to her death, tears almost threatened to spill out.

"It was the least I could do Zhongli. I can reassure you she is living happily now." Y/n held his face and wiped his eyes before any tears could have a chance to spill. The wind blew freely and sun was setting, turning the sky into a bright pink and orange, like something that was only found in paintings. The cherry blossom petals shined as bright as stars and the rosy pink color reminded him of when Guizhong blushed. Oh how much Zhongli missed those memories. He felt them fade, and he felt guilty they were. Yet he knew it was for the better. He would move on, but he made sure her legacy in this world would never be forgotten.

"Oh are you awake? Finally" he chuckled and gave you a bright grin. You always loved how his fluffy orange hair became more vibrant in the mornings from the sun. You made a grabby hand motion signaling Ajax to come to you. You always loved to feel how soft his hair was so he understood immediately and walked toward you. He always reminded you of a golden retriever and you couldn't help but smile.

"Your hair always feels so fluffy" you buried your head into his hair and he laughed.

"Is it? I never really noticed until you started to like it. Now come on I made breakfast." He whispered softly but you didn't feel like getting up.

"Carry me" you looked up at him and he gave you a happy sigh.

You wrapped your blanket around yourself and let Ajax pick you up.

"What would you do without me" he teasingly said.

"Mmm die probably" you answered jokingly in a sleepy voice. He shook his head and planted a soft kiss against your forehead.

Soon you were at the kitchen and he placed you in your seat. The fresh smell of eggs, bacon, toast with jam, and a small soup filled your senses. Of course you were perfectly capable of making just as amazing meals but you always adored Ajaxs' cooking, it seemed to have a cozy feel to it. You wiggled your hands out of your blanket burrito but still kept it on anyway. Ajax looked at you like you were the most cutest thing on earth as you dug into the breakfast he made you. Shortly he joined you and began eating as well.

"Ajax I love your cooking. Ah I also love you too. I love you very much Ajax" He couldn't help but blush, he loved how blunt and honest you were without even giving a second thought on how your words effected him. He smiled at you.

"I love you too."

Thats how most of your mornings went. Always slow and comforting, especially on days you both had a lot of free time. He cherished every moment of you, not caring how near the end will get day by day.

Scenario: you're a book nerd and zhongli worries for you

Fluff, super short

You were up pretty late reading one of your favorite series of books. Losing count of time, it was already 1am and you were on the 5th book of the series. Zhongli didn't seem to stop you at first but he did get worried for your health once he realized you had no intention of putting down the book.

"My dear.." Zhongli finally spoke.

"Lets go get some rest alright?"

"Ah...hold on after this chapter, I promise." You couldn't just leave a book when you're so close to the end of the chapter, but you had said that excuse to him about 6 times already and he was not having it. He sighed and walked over to you.

"I hate to be forceful but you leave me no choice. You need to take care of your health more." He put down the book himself and carried you bridal style.

"W-wait zhongli I wasn't done! Thats not fair put me downnn" You didn't even put in your bookmark, but he had no intentions of letting you down any time soon.

"I told you many times didn't I? You can read the rest once you wake up and your brain is refreshed." Zhongli kissed your cheek making you blush a bit and cling on to him before he eventually put you down on the bed.

"Hmph...I was close to the end, meany" you pouted and he chuckled while taking off his coat and changing to more comfortable clothes. As stubborn as you were, you couldn't help but feel how the bed engulfed your whole body and how nice the satin sheets felt. Zhongli got in bed with you and started peppering kisses on your face while his arms held you firmly. He always felt so warm and soothing, especially since he'd smell like glaze lillies all the time. His hold was reassuring and you felt safe for once in your life time. Before you knew it, you both drifted of to sleep, awaiting the next morning that was bound to come.

You were walking around the streets of mondstadt, you always loved the night and decided to come out for some fresh air. Lost in thought, you were reflecting on your first moments here and how the handsome calvary captain gave you a tour of the city. You were an adventurer from Fontaine seeking to do research on all the 7 regions. Mondstadt was the first region on your list. You've heard most of it from stories on barbatos and how he saved mondstadt, but you'd love to meet the people and all the certain flowers that were around. You finally arrived at the front gate and the guards gave you a warm welcome. The city air was fresh and everything had a carefree warm feel to it. "This truly is the city of freedom" you thought to yourself and smiled. Having everything written down on your notebook, you decided to try out the foods that were common here. "What can I get for you today?" The women spoke as you came up to the counter. You took out your notebook and chose a dish. "I'll take one chicken mushroom skewer please, ah would I also ask for your name if you don't mind?" You gave a friendly smile. "My name is Sara, worker at Good Hunter! Your food will be right up. I see you arent around here." "Nice to meet you Sara, im actually traveling the 7 regions for my art pieces and mondstadt just happened to be my first one. I would love to know some tourist attractions around here, would you happen to know a guide?" It was nice to see a conversation going well especially since you were never really the best at conversations. But you wanted to hurry up because your social battery was draining fast. "Id love to be your guide" and unfamiliar voice came to the right and you shot your head to that direction. His appearance was definitely different from the rest of the citizens but looked really attractive either way. He was leaning against the booth almost giving off an intimidating nature underneath the layers of charming. "Really? That would be great, thank you so much! And uhm your name is...?" Depsite the oddness you got from him, you did your best to continue the conversation as normally as possible. "Kaeya, Knights of Favionus, happy to be your guide dear" his sudden pet name made you flitch but you pushed it off "So where are we going first dear calvary captain" you gave him a teasing remark as you smirked. He chuckled "well obviously I wouldn't be a good tour guide if I didn't show you the Barbatos statute first." "Ah of course haha" you gave him a nervous chuckle. "Is there any other reason you decided to come here other than to just "explore"" You thought he ease dropped on your conversation, and even so he still didn't find you that trust worthy. "Well I'm a pretty well known artist where I'm from, but besides just coming here to make art I also decided to write a few poems for each region. If you'd want I can show you my works" you smiled happily and his cold attitude started to fade just a bit. "You can show me once we get to the next place, feel free to draw me then too ♡" it wasn't the best first impression but at least he didn't feel as hostile anymore. You and Kaeya finally made it to the statue and it was more beautiful in person than your thoughts could ever imagine. Ideas started to flow through your brain on how to paint it. "Wow its so...." you were at a lost for words. "Breathtaking isn't it?" Kaeya finished your sentence and you flahsed him a small smile and nod. "Yeah it is, ill be sure to mark it down as the first place to paint. Maybe if you'd like, you can give it to the Acting Grandmaster as a token of my thanks for having me here" "Such a kind hearted soul arent you? I'll be sure to inform her." Kaeya patted your head and walked off, assuming he was leading you to the second destination, you started to follow him. "You should stop by the tavern Cats Tail sometime tonight, I can tell you more about this place and if you'd like, more about me," You saw this as an opportunity for more research on the area, and maybe get to know Kaeya a bit more, he truly was an interesting person, so you

accepted. "I'll be sure to make it around 18:00 or 19:00!" The next destination included a beautiful tree, lake, and another small statue of barbatos. You thought it was truly magnificent, especially how the sun hit the leaves all so perfectly giving it a warm glow. "This place is Windrise. Its often associated with love and is one of the most well know spot for dates." He winked at you and you looked away, not really sure what to do. "Is that so? I can see why. Its very beautiful." You did your best not to stutter from how flirty he was being. "This statue here is for offerings. You find anemoculous and you offer them to the statues. In return, you get a gift from the God." "Oh! We have on of those where I'm from as well, but its a different person." You weren't really sure why you wouldn't tell him where you were from, maybe it was because he was super analytical, or the whole predator with its prey vibe he got going on. "There are 7 types of statues that represent the 7 archons, would it be ok if you'd tell me where you're from? I'm just so interested in you." He gave a flirty smirk and you couldn't help but blush a little bit. "Uhm I'm from Fontaine, if you couldn't tell by the clothes. Its quite similar to Mondstadt, but I find it here to be more peaceful and calming than there." "Fontaine huh? I've heard people live the luxury over there. Very formal." He laughed a bit, part of him was right but it wasn't all that good as he was making it sound. "Hmm I guess you could say that, my parents were pretty well off but I can't say much about the rest." Your gaze drifted off to the forming sunset and you wondered if you should head back soon. "Ill head back, ill tell you more about the attractions tomorrow. Don't forget our date tonight deary..." He waved goodbye and walked off. "Deary.." you said to yourself, he flattered you very much but all of it seemed off in a way. You didn't think to much about it and decided to head back too. Your memories of your first interaction with Kaeya was over once you heard someone call your name. A familiar voice that was. "Y/n!" Kaeya called out. Automatically knowing who it was, you turned around to be greeted by a fine tall man dressed in blue tones "Hi Kaeya!" "I dont think its a good idea for a pretty lady like you to be walking out so late at night." He sounded amused but you were over it. "Oh cut it out captain, I know you were just swooning some girls a couple minutes ago." "Haha so what, you jealous?" "Dont flatter yourself, why would I be jealous anyway? Feelings like those are just a waste of time" you hated to admit that you were just a tiny bit jealous. You weren't sure how your crush on the calvary captain formed but it did and it didn't seem to be going away any time soon. Part of you thought maybe he already knew and he was just toying with you. Or maybe he was oblivious to it, thinking no one could love such a person like him. Either way, you still kept these feelings inside. "There's no shame in bearing emotion, love, its just our nature. And for a while I think you've been feeling pretty intense emotions about a certain someone..." His hand tilted your chin so you could face up to him. Shoot did he know? How was that possible? Was I that obvious? You thought to yourself, you weren't sure how you were going to get out of this situation. "I...I-its nothing that concerns of you" you broke eye contact but you knew kaeya wasn't letting up. "A lie to a lier is no stranger, but if you wish to keep your secrets then who am I to cross such a boundary." He back off from you and you started to breathe again. You wanted to tell him so bad. How much you loved and cared for him, how much you so desperately wanted to be there for him no matter what situation. You were willing to take risks for him if it meant that one day you would forever be together. But maybe you thought the image you had of him was wrong. You knew well enough his flirty nature was never sincere, and how he was hiding something much darker then you ever wanted to imagine. Even so, you still wanted your

thoughts of him to become right. So before he walked off again you mustered up the courage. "Kaeya wait! I, I do actually want to tell you something." He looked surprised now but intrigued. "Ever since we met, there was always something different about you. It always left me wanting to know more and over the years I did learn more about you. But then I started feeling these weird emotions and having thse weird thoughts like thinking maybe one day we could be together...or knowing the real you even. I know you say less than you lead on but I felt like I'd be willing to take extreme risks to know who you actually are. I feel so safe around you and I always smile at those good memories we have. I dont know if this is called love, I dont know fully what love is but you're special enough for me to be having these feelings." Thats it, you let everything out. Awaiting for rejection, you began to panic when the silence held for what seemed like an eternity, until you heard him walking toward you. He held your chin again and gave you a look you've never seen before. A mix of admiration, and happiness. He swiped his thumb over your bottom lip and you tensed up. "Kaeya...." Before you could say anything else, he pulled you into a kiss. A new feeling started to arise and your whole body began to feel hot. Euphoria was coursing through your veins and you felt like you were going to fall without Kaeyas support. He was so warm, so intoxicating. You couldn't even feel where you were or he was, it all just became a bundle of sensations and happiness. You couldn't tell how long you both had kissed for but you were the first one to pull away as your breath began to shorten. "As much as a flirt as I am, I dont do well communicating my actual emotions. So id prefer to show them through my actions. I cant say it right now, but I hope that helped you realize what my answer is." He pulled you into a hug and you buried his face into his fur jacket. Already knowing his answer, you breathed a sigh of relief
