But does Obi-Wan believe the time of the Jedi is over and that they lost because of his loss and (perceived) failure or is his loss and pain more because of the collapse of his support and belief system. The contrast between his views and Nari's are maybe too clear. Obi wan is there swinging the pendulum between pain and boredom contemplating writing his own Nihilistic philosophical masterpiece and saying to Luke a few years  “ you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view”
“The time of the Jedi is over.“ It’s painful enough that Obi-Wan can’t use the Force because people would know he was a Jedi, that he can’t even speak about the trauma of living through his people’s genocide, that he can’t even practice his own religious culture, but what’s really destroying me is that it isn’t just the Force stuff that Obi-Wan is no longer doing, it’s the Jedi philosophy of emotional regulation that comes with the Force and being a Jedi. Obi-Wan has fallen to his grief, it is consuming him, it is warping him, it’s not just that he’s turning away people like Nari, but that he’s also holding onto his pain, he’s not letting it go.  The Force is based on your emotional wellbeing, if you connect to the Force through anger and fear and pain, that is the dark side.  If you connect to it through compassion and calm and love, that is the light side.  Jedi have to accept the circumstances they find themselves in, they have to let go of their hurts, because their connection to the Force is fundamentally about that emotional wellbeing, it’s not just Jedi philosophy, it’s literally how the Force works. But Obi-Wan isn’t a Jedi anymore.  The time of the Jedi is over. So he holds onto his pain, he holds onto his hurt, he holds onto his attachment to Anakin, which is the inability to accept that life changes and you have to let go when it’s time, you cannot grasp onto something so hard that you crush it because you are afraid to live without it, that’s what attachment is.  It is everything the Jedi have trained against doing. But the time of the Jedi is over. The Jedi and their light and their teachings and their ways are gone, so he holds on because he doesn’t know how to let go of mourning Anakin and the Jedi, even when Bail Organa himself calls him desperately and pleads with him to help save Leia.  It’s not until Bail hauls his ass all the way out to Tatooine and tells him, right to his face, “Move on. Be done with it.” Those words brought me to tears, because Bail Organa isn’t just telling Obi-Wan to rescue his daughter to be a Jedi again, but telling him to let it fucking go, because that’s what Jedi do.  Protect people with your lightsaber when you can, love them and help them when you can, but when the time comes, if you can’t save them, you have to train yourself to let go. George Lucas says that’s how the Force and Star Wars and the Jedi work and I am IN PAIN because Obi-Wan truly believes that the Jedi are dead, that his old life is dead, and it’s not just swinging his lightsaber around or making people float that he’s buried in the ground, but his willingness to accept the circumstances he’s in and to move with the flow of what’s happened. The Jedi say you can’t destroy yourself in your grief–and Obi-Wan is destroying himself in his grief here, he is doing exactly everything that the Jedi warn will happen when you don’t let go.  He’s been unwilling to let go of his feelings, because he’s not a Jedi anymore. He doesn’t connect to the Force because that would mean he would need to let go of his feelings and he can’t do that. The time of the Jedi is over, he says, and we see what it’s doing to him, how it destroys him day by day.  He may not be sinking into the dark side, only because he’s not using the Force, but he is suffering all the same for it, because he has forsaken the lessons of the Jedi.  Because the time of the Jedi is over.

Hey, repost with how obscure your music taste is and your most listened to artist on this Spotify stats site. The higher your score, the more obscure your music taste is. I want to know what you all get :)

diego luna appreciation week day six: diego + fanboy moments Who is most likely to be caught taking a selfie? That wasn’t allowed. I did a few, I have to admit. Now that I can, and they can’t cut me out of the film. I did take a lot. And I shared them with my kids, and I’m about to start selling them. On eBay. Next year.

I had a feeling, I said, ‘You know what – if there’s a weak link, if Carrie or Harrison decides they don’t want to do it, there’s an out. Because it’s all or nothing. It should be all of us or none of us.’ -  Mark Hamill.

Rogue One Tidbits!
So the writers of Rogue One did a live Q & A here which is summarized here but here’s a post including the tidbits I found interesting/I hadn’t heard already from the Reddit post:
the Rebel base was set on Dantooine in the film, but they changed it to Yavin as the movie takes place just before ANH and it would mean there would have to be an evacuation at some point during the movie (I’m glad they kept it on Yavin!) They had to cut out a planet for budget.
This one is interesting: Bor Gullet was supposed to exchange memories for info. Jyn was supposed to offer up her traumatic childhood memories (which Bor Gullet enjoys???) in exchange for information, but Bodhi ends up being the victim instead :( This was cut.
In one version of the script, Jyn is the one responsible for discovering the Death Star (ie. no message from Bodhi, potentially no Bodhi at all :( ). The Death Star dish was being built on Eadu near the start of the film, and that’s where Jyn finds out about the project
(This is me making an assumption but I guess this is where Sergeant Jyn Erso comes from - she was already with the rebels and presumably went out to meet Galen?)
Leia was supposed to be in the War Room scene but they decided her presence was more impactful if she was just at the end - so Jyn got to give her speech in the War Room instead.
original idea (Gareth and Gary) was to have everyone die, they didn’t think Disney would approve of it, so they had everyone live except… Kaytoo. Who apparently dies on the beach in a blaze of glory. Tony and Chris decided everyone should die and Disney approved it.
Everyone splitting up and going undercover as seen in the movie was also in the original version. Jyn and Cassian climbing up the tower was also in the original version.
Tony Gilroy added Cassian’s introduction scene as well as the use of “Stardust”
Jyn says “I’ve got a good feeling about this” en route to Scarif. This was reshot and replaced with Kay’s line (OH MY GOODDDDDDD)
Jyn facing off against the TIE fighter was never part of the movie, it was filmed for the trailer alone (??!??!?!!!!!?!??!!) Same goes for that shot of Jyn in the Imperial outfit in the tunnel with all the glowly lights where all th promo pics are from.
Early versions of the script had a Jyn/Cassian canon, on screen romance that was written out over the versions (honestly fair - as Jyn’s role changed so would their romance, plus I’m cool with the final. But deleted scene pls)
Originally the vault and the tower were two separate facilities on Scarif, which is why we have all those shots of people running around and fighting on the beach, but Tony decided it was too complicated and combined them into one building (WE WERE ROBBED OF CASSIAN AND BAZE FIGHTING SIDE BY SIDE)
Vader was supposed to be on the beach (atually I think Gary told me this on twitter when I asked one time??) and had to “mow down” a bunch of rebels to get to Jyn & co. scary.
