Here’s a question? How do Devil fruits work in your western Au? I like to think that the world is mostly a barren desert and that there’s parts where very little lives in besides horrible monsters. I imagine that once they eat a fruit they can’t stand still too long on the sand or else the monsters get attracted and they slowly start sinking into the sand. And for crocodile he’s slightly more resistant to the sinking but still will sink.

funnily enough i'd considered devil fruits but ignored their whole, negative side effect… until now!!

yes, definitely a fan of desert beasts!! some tremors or dune-type of worm is gonna get you if you ate a fruit lol (maybe in lore they're considered 'devils')

i also think in lieu of making the desert feel like the sea: sandstorms and other disasters (rock slide, quicksand lake ?) make moving from place to place pretty difficult in, as you said, an already barren place. a devil fruit user probably has a higher chance of being swept up in those kinds of things.

the visual of buggy (and others lol) just slowly sinking into sand is p funny though
