'bade miyan chote miyan' is an insanely messy movie

(what to expect: no spoilers)

this movie has: 1. over the top hype 2. intensely cringe dialogue at points (and i have a high tolerance) 3. a storyline that compromises its character & narrative depth for plot complexity, and ends up falling a bit short on both. 4. a terrible of usage of what could have been strong female characters.

having said that though, this is a movie that gives us [in no particular order]:

✓ a movie that begins with a fight scene (feat. manushi chhillar)

✓ fervent glances? between two men (especially when the other isn't looking)

✓ intense eye contact between homebois

✓ banter? bickering like a married couple? (hello, enemies to lovers)

✓ two explicit declarations of love (this isn't even a joke)

✓ wonderfully choreographed fight sequences (though the camerawork sometimes prevents us from appreciating the details)

✓ a sonakshi sinha cameo

✓ a villain with a solid backstory, but SIMULTANEOUSLY psychopathic for no reason at all (which is a bit refreshing)

✓ excessive handholding (not exaggerating, at least eleven times)

✓ refusing to let go of said hand (even in dangerous situations)

✓ prithviraj with long hair

✓ a villain that does NOT monologue, other than giving us essential backstory (finally!)

✓ a cheek kiss?? (again, not kidding. yes, between the main characters.)

✓ telepathic understanding between our main bois

✓ prithviraj with long hair (if i hadn't mentioned already)

✓ a cohesive, fast-paced, fun story, with plenty of plot points and surprising moments (crazy amount of potential)

(what you are ALSO signing up for):

the overt sexualization of men. men being tiger shroff and akshay kumar. (did i mention tiger shroff?)

a genius character who is also a professional simp 86% of the time

MULTIPLE dialogues that make you want to gag 😃(but entertaining in it's own weird way)

a blatant reference to the RRR dance scene during a dance montage of tiger & akshay (goood times)

prithviraj giving his 124% to a character, as usual (in a movie that is incapable of being taken seriously at times)

witnessing the lost potential of three potential badass female characters

situations that should not be escapable (but surprise, they are)

situations that should not be survivable (again, surprise)

obvious references to multiple other movies and real life memes (choti bachi ho kya?)

but hello! yes! thing is, there's a priority list i had for my major fics, based on my inspiration and how quickly they were getting written, and the order was something like this:

1. the assassin!deva & prince!varadha au 2. sandalwood & ozone (which might get renamed) 3. this fic 4. the twins! deva & devaratha au (which i tried to shift up in the list, but i realized the hard way that i should listen to my brain) 5. distance

so,,,lmao

it might take a while to get around to it, especially because i feel like i left it in a pretty good place, and it doesn't need my immediate attention, even though i have most of it's plot fleshed out

what i can tell you about it though is:

in distance, deva and varadha have known each other since childhood, but haven't gotten the chance to get as close as they are in canon, seeing as to how they're from different kingdoms entirely deva is betrothed to radha rama in this one (shocking, i know) and there's suddenly a change of plans, leading to his marriage with varadha – a last resort to fix an unexpected situation we know that there's this tension between them, especially from varadha's perspective, but we don't know what went wrong and when it happened, so we'll hear a lot about their pasts, and get to see a lot of complex dynamics between two people who have yet to learn the 'language' the other speaks, while navigating the complexity of a marriage that involves not only them, but two kingdoms. and, it's omegaverse. :D

#basically: canon varadeva are so solid because they understand each other perfectly #but what if we put them back at square one and threw something into the equation that would start them off on VERY rocky ground? #hope this was a somewhat satisfying hint #but ty for the ask anon ^^ #salaar #varadeva

what makes a writer editor photographer dancer an artist?

-> for anyone who thinks they can't pursue a certain art form because they don't have the 'innate' skill for it

if you like to sing, you are a singer. if you like to dance, you are a dancer.

this goes for any artform.

the subjective quality of artwork is a spectrum decided by people with various ranges of mastery pertaining to skillsets, experiences, and opinion.

therefore, 'good' and 'bad' are terrible ways to judge art.

art is born of passion, of emotion. the purpose of art is, and has always been to inspire emotion in it's audience. and if you are able to achieve that, you are an artist.

every artform requires practice and exposure, and is perceived in a multitude of ways, but the assessment of art is and has always been heavily dependent on interpretation.

now, obviously when you step into the world – the competitive space that it is – your art will be judged, and it will feel as though your artistic worth is being judged by proxy, especially if you are making a career out of it or take it more seriously than a pastime

but it's important to remember that you owe no one proof of an unmeasurable expertise, if you are pursuing it for yourself.

even if you once did something, or loved doing it, or if you presently think you don't, can't, or believe you're not good enough at it, that doesn't mean you've lost hold of it, or never had the ability.

don't gatekeep yourself. the world already gatekeeps enough without us doing it to ourselves. it is harsh out there, things can get tough, and you deserve to be on your own team.

Varadha. Baachi's older brother parent.

it's funny to think about Baachi being the child everyone forgot about except for baachi himself, damn bro but he truly was neglected by the rest of the mannars.

meaning, he was raised by varadha.

imagine varadha, an eleven year old child, who'd just faced disgrace because he'd given up the one thing that would bring him status in khansaar and who'd lost rajamannar's approval overnight

imagine varadha having to let go of his one true friend, deva, who was everything to him, in a place where not only did he have nobody else, but with the knowledge that most of his family hated his existence and that other lords would follow that example

varadha, who had to cope with all of this, and simultaneously not only be an elder sibling, but also a literal parent.

imagine baba watching an eleven year old varadha, making sure his even younger brother was clothed, fed, and grew up safely.

varadha has several scars, both old and fresh. baachi has barely any.

in a place like khansaar, imagine how diligent and protective varadha had to have been for baachi to be safe, healthy, and as outspoken as he is now?

if baachi seems dramatic, or even cowardly in some situations, it means that varadha has raised him, as much as possible, outside of the purview of all the humiliation and pain he himself has faced.

and it's only expected that baachi would not realize the full extent of that, being as sheltered as he has been by varadha.

baachi loves varadha, like a younger brother would, but with the carelessness of a child, taking him for granted the way a child is bound to take their guardians lightly - because he was raised by varadha.

and varadha loves him unconditionally, quietly, sacrificially, because he is the one to have raised baachi. baachi was probably one of his reasons to get from one day to the next, the way a parent exists for a child when there is nothing else to keep them moving forward.

#and this is where any conflicts between them may have arisen as they grew up #because baachi thinks of varadha as a brother but has been entirely dependent on him throughout his formative years #while varadha probably treats him the way a parent would treat a child – making baachi feel like he's not being taken seriously at times #baachi wouldn't have understood varadha's parent-like approach to situations involving him and felt undermined #character analysis #varadha rajamannar #salaar
