Water Attracts Lightning // Zuko X Kasami (OC) [FF]
Kasami’s P.O.V
It’s been about 4 days since Zuko brought me in. It’s a good thing his healers are of high level experience, if not I’d probably be a lot worse off right now. I still get sharp pains in my side at the site of my cut, but all of my bruises and burns have been healed.
“Kasami?” Zuko opens the door and peaks his head in. “Are you up?”
“Yeah, just give me one second.”
I finish brushing my hair, along with braiding one loose strand on the side. I put my hair behind my shoulders as it falls down to my waist in slightly curly waves. I put on my water tribe outfit, but I quickly realize that its way too hot in the firenation to be wearing these fleece covered North Pole clothes.
“Actually, give me a few minutes.” I laugh sheepishly as I grab the scissors.
I cut off one of the long sleeves of my white water tribe top. I crop it and put it on, the bottom resting a few inches above my belly button. I take the warm fleece off of my blue and white skirt and cut a slit up the right side. I put on my necklace and my traditional tribe bracelets, one on my upper arm and two around my wrist.
I put on my most prized possession, an Air Nomad bracelet that Aang gifted me for my birthday. He knew how much I loved Air Nomads and their culture. I guess thats why Aang and I formed a really special bond. I love all of my friends but he was there for me when no one else was. I consider Aang my best and closest friend. I spent almost all of my childhood reading ancient Nomad scrolls, scriptures, and books. Besides training with water and swordsman masters, of course. It was amazing to have someone else, a real Nomad, to be best friends with.
I hope Aang and the others are okay.
Suddenly, an idea pops into my head.
I walk out to see Zuko waiting outside my door, he studies me, glancing up and down before speaking.
“Took you long enough.” He says, leaning against the wall.
“Well I wouldnt of had to remake all of my clothes if it wasnt like 90 degrees here.”
I cross my arms across my chest and blow a strand of hair out of my face.
“Let’s go.” He begins, “We have a lot to do today.”
“Actually, I need to do something first.”
Zuko groans and runs his hand through his hair.
“What is it?” He snaps harshly, clearly annoyed.
“I need to enter the spirit world.”
“The spirit world?!” He shouted, an exasperated expression on his face. “Why do you need to go into the spirit world?”
“Okay well, first of all, calm down and stop shouting.” I started, unamused by his behavior. “Since Aang and I are the only ones out of our group who can enter the spirit world, we promised to find each other there if we ever got separated.”
Zuko massaged his forehead and sighed deeply.
“Kasami, we don’t have time for this!”
“I’m going to do it either way, Zuko.” I glanced away sadly and looked at the floor. “They probably think I’m dead. I have to let them know I’m here and that I’m coming for them.”
“Fine, but make it quick.” He began walking away. “If your not back to the ship in an hour, you can find your own way back.”
Asshole.
I jogged back into his villa, and decided to go sit on the beach to meditate. I sat down, closed my eyes, and pressed my fists together. I focused on my breath for a while, and in a few minutes I notice the landscape around me was beginning to change. My soul felt like it was lifting out of my body, although it seems scary, it always felt the most amazing during the transition from the real world, to the spirit world.
I opened my eyes to see that I wasn’t at the beach anymore. The sound of waves turned in to the sound of leaves and branches flowing peacefully in the wind.
“Come on Aang, where are you?”
I made my way over to our favorite spot, a flower garden beneath a giant bonsai tree. The four nations’ symbols carved into it’s trunk. I sat and waited, until suddenly, I heard footsteps nearing. My eyes shot over to the sound, a familiar face with blue tattoos making his way towards me.
“AANG!”
A huge smile plastered across my face, I ran as fast as I could over to him. His arms already open, waiting to receive his hug.
“Im so glad you’re alive, Kasami.” He peered down at me with a concerned but elated expression.
“Are you guys okay?” I walked around him, searching for cuts or bruises. “Are any of you hurt?”
“We aren’t hurt too bad, don’t worry. If Sokka would just shut up once in a while maybe he wouldn’t get in trouble so often...” He trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck.
I balled my fists and my jaw clenched.
“Aang, please don’t lie to me. Tell me what’s happening to you guys.”
He sighed and glanced down at the floor.
“Katara can barely stand and Sokka’s got bruises all over him.”
“And you?” Tears well up in my eyes as I look up at him.
“They keep me chi blocked. I can’t reach the Avatar state.” He began, his voice quivering and tears beginning to fall down his face. “I’m the Avatar and I can’t even save them.”
“Aang, please. Do not blame yourself.”
“How can I not? I’m supposed to bring balance and peace to the world.”
“Everything is going to be okay. Thanks to you I made it out of there alive. Well, just barely, but Zuko found me and-“
“Wait, Zuko?”
“I fell off of Appa trying to escape and I fell in to the woods on Ember Island.”
“Where does Zuko fall into this?”
“Well he was on vacation and he happened to be out at the time. He found me and brought me back to his villa. Zuko and his healers basically nursed me back to health.”
“Fire Lord Zuko? The one gave you your sca-“
“Yes Aang.” I interrupt his sentence, not wanting him to finish it.
“Speaking of Zuko, I have to go.” I wrapped my arms around Aang and squeezed him tightly. “If Im not back at the ship soon, I’ll get left behind.”
Aang hugged me back and squeezed me even tighter.
“Im coming for you guys. I’m going to get all of you out of there,” I let go of him and put my hand on his shoulder. “I promise.”
We said our goodbyes and I returned to the real world. I opened my eyes to see Zuko sitting right in front of me.
“Z-zuko?”
“Oh, uh, sorry! I was just making sure nothing happened to your body while you were in there.”
“Like how Katara was protecting Aang the night of the North Pole invasion before you showed up and stole him?” I remarked sarcastically.
“Hey! I said I was sorry for that!”
A slight smile tugged at the corner of his lips, before I started laughing at him.
He got up, dusting the sand off his clothes. He reached his hand down to me, offering to help me up.
“I can get up myself, thanks.”
I rose up off the ground and dusted my own skirt off.
We stood in silence for what seemed like forever, just staring at each other.
“Ahem.” I cleared my throat and broke eye contact. “We should probably, uh, get going.”
“O-oh, yeah. We have a lot of preparation to do.” He gestured at me to walk with him as he started making his way back to the ship.
“Lets go.”
Zuko’s P.O.V
Kasami stands in front of me, the sunset perfectly hitting her face. I never noticed how beautiful her eyes were. She’s got two different colors. Her right eye a light shade of blue, matching the Water Tribe insignia on her necklace. Her left, a vibrant and light shade of green, like the leaves of a white dragon flower. My favorite. The sun only enhancing their color, they continue intrigue me. Sadly she looks away. I seemed to have gotten a little lost in her eyes, but I quickly return to reality when she clears her throat.
“We should probably, uh, get going.”
“O-oh, yeah. We have a lot of preparation to do.” I add as I begin walking back to the ship, Kasami trailing close behind.
We’ve been on the ship for a couple hours now. We haven’t spoken a single word to each other. I go out on the deck to find her playing around with some water. I catch her smiling as she whips it around her body, the water flowing gracefully wherever she points her hand. I make my way over to her spot on the floor, but as soon as she notices me her smile fades.
“Have you heard of blood bending?” I asked, taking a seat right in front of her.
“Yes.” She raises her brow. “Why do you ask?”
She glances at me with suspicion.
“I’m only asking because It could help us a lot. You know, when we’re trying to save our friends.”
“I’ve only ever tried it once, but I’m still trying to figure out if it was a dream or not.” She answers, rubbing her temples.
“Why don’t you try it?”
“Well, I don’t really have anyone to try it on.”
“Try it on me.”
“Zuko, are you crazy?” She looks at me, clearly distressed. “I’m not going to blood bend you!”
“Kasami, do you have any idea how powerful we could be together? You have to try!”
“T-Together?”
“I mean, uh, when we rescue the others. Ya know, you with your blood bending and me with my lightning?”
I point my finger up at the sky, a tiny bolt of lightning sprouting from it, buzzing sightly with electricity. The color immediately drained from Kasami’s skin and terror overtook her face. She backed up, her eyes wide with fear.
“K-Kasami? What’s wrong?”
I get up and walk over to her. I reach my hand out but she stumbles back till she hits the railing of the ship.
“Don’t!” She yells, turning away from me and putting her face in her hands.
“Please..Please don’t d-do that again.”
“Don’t do wh-“
“The light...the lightning.”
Her voice and her hands were shaking, she sounded like she was on the verge of tears.
“oh.” I whispered as I peered down at my hands, ashamed that I had just scared her so badly.
“I promise you, I wont ever do it again.” I said in a hushed tone. “I know you might not believe it, but I am so, so sorry for hurting you, Kasami.”
She looked back at me, her eyes were glossy and full of tears. She was too full of pride to ever let them fall in front of some one else.
“I’m so sorry.”
My own tears threatened to fall. I looked down at my feet. Suddenly, I hear her walking towards me. Kasami stood only a couple inches away from me. She looked up at me and smiled. I took in the beautiful sight in front of me. Her eyes sparkled in the moonlight as she looked right into my own.
“I want to believe you, I really do.”
“It’s okay if you don’t now. I’ll prove it to you.”
Immediately after finishing my sentence, she flung her arms around me pulling me into a tight hug. I wrapped my own arms around her and pulled her in tighter, letting a tear fall from my cheek.
“I guess I can give you chance, figuring how you saved my life and all.” She whispered into my shoulder.
I pulled away slightly as we held each other. She raises her hand to my face and caresses her thumb across my scar.
“I know I’ll never be able to make it up to you, but I’m going to try my hardest.” I whispered softly between the two of us, our faces only inches apart.
“Fire Lord Zuko, we have arrived.”
The captain snaps us out of the moment we shared, and we let go of each other.
“O-oh, Thank you Captain.”
“Its been an honor serving you, Fire Lord.”
He bows to me and walks off.
“Well, we better get going.” I turn around to see Kasami still staring at me with a slight grin on her face. She nods and we make out way onto the mainland.
“Welcome to the heart of the Fire Nation.”
The moonlight shone down upon the Fire Palace as the light of torches all across the nation could be seen for miles. The music playing and people dancing certainly piqued Kasami’s interest. This is the biggest smile I’ve seen on her yet. She really is beautiful.
Sokka’s P.O.V
“Katara how long is this gonna take?!” I pace around my cage, staring at Aang.
God, I feel like an animal.
Ever since our cages were moved into the same room, he’s been trying to contact Kasami in the spirit world. After being told she was “taken care of” a couple nights ago we’ve all been frantic about trying to contact her. Unfortunately, none of the attempts have worked. Im starting to believe his words.
“Sokka! Shut. Up.” Katara growled at me. “Stuff like this takes peace and quiet!”
Suddenly, we hear Aang groan as he comes back into consciousness.
“Guys,” Aang beamed at us with a grin. “She’s alive!”
Katara and I both let out a huge sigh of relief.
“Shes with Zuko, she said she’s putting together a small team of elite people to help her rescue us.”
“Woah, woah, woah. She’s with Zuko?” I looked at him, clearly shocked. “She always said she hated him.”
“Well, he actually saved her life when she escaped that night. She was almost dead when he brought her in.”
“Shes okay now though, right?” I ask, my face of shock quickly turning into concern.
“She’s perfectly fine now. We’re getting out of here soon, don’t worry.”
I took a deep breath, the first one I’ve been able to take in days.
“I’m just glad she’s alive.”
Kasami’s P.O.V
As much as I want to trust Zuko, part of me is terrified. I know in my heart that I need to hear him out and give him a chance, but a small part is screaming at me to run. I’ve never allowed myself to be this vulnerable with someone, ever. I better play it safe. Keep a safe distance, don’t get too close. I won’t allow myself to get burned again. Never again. Not like last time.
Zuko walked me in to the Fire Palace. Despite its dark and dreary appearance, it really was beautifully crafted and designed.
“I think we should assemble a small team.” I begin, walking around the room. “I’m thinking Suki, Ty Lee, Mai-“
“Mai will not be joining us.” Zuko interrupted sternly.
“What? Why? Shes one the best fighters I know!”
“She will not be joining us, thats final.”
I glared at him. What was that all about?
“I’ll bring my good friend Kahn. Hes an excellent fire bender,” Zuko stated.
“Are you sure we can trust him, Zuko?”
“Would I bring him along if we couldn’t?” Zuko gave me a slight smirk.
“Alright Zuko,” I replied, putting my hands up defensivly. “but if he screws up, its on your ass.”
I smile up at him. Zuko gives me a small chuckle. I think that may have been the first time I’ve heard him laugh. It was a cute one, slightly raspy but nonetheless wanted to make me laugh along with him. I hoped I could make him laugh more often.
“Lord Zuko?” A familiar voice spoke out from the doorway.
“Kasami?!”
“Suki?!”
I ran up to the Kyoshi Warrior and wrapped my arms around her.
“I missed you so much!”
She plants kisses all over my face, causing me to scrunch up my nose and giggle. Even though me and Suki had a rocky past, we always managed to pull through together. She’s an amazing friend, extremely loyal, and will fight with me to the end.
“So I heard were going on a little mission, correct?”
“Thats right.” Ty Lee chimes in, stepping delicately as she makes her way across the room. She spots Suki and I, squealing as she runs over, engulfing us in a huge group hug.
“Its so good to see you girls!” Ty Lee beams as she releases from our hug. I give her a small smile.
“I can’t believe were all together again, It’s been far too long for my liking.”
“Well yeah! You’ve been traveling the world with the Gaang and that hottie Sokka!” Ty Lee gushes, earning a glare from Suki.
“Hehe, sorry...”
I notice Zuko from across the room, his face looks exactly like Suki’s. Angry...with a splash of jealousy. I quickly shake it off and focus my attention back to my friends.
“Hey, did I miss the party?” My eyes shoot over to the deep, unfamiliar voice. His tall silhouette gaining my attention. The shadow steps into the light, revealing his face. Which is not too bad in my opinion. I’m not one to blush, let alone gush over a boy I just met, but when he made eye contact with me I could feel the heat from my cheeks growing red.
“You must be Kasami,” He grinned, walking over to me. “I’ve heard quite a lot about you.”
He shoots a glance at Zuko, winking at him. This earns a glare from Zuko but I can still notice the red on his cheeks before he turns away.
“Oh you have?” I ask, glancing over at Zuko with a brow raised.
“Only good things I hope.”
“Very.” He smirks.
His dimples are so cute.
I’m snapped out of my infatuated stare by Ty Lee and Suki’s giggles.
I laugh it off and walk over to the conference table, closer to Zuko.
“Alright guys, let’s get down to business.” I state, everyone picking a seat.
“How can we be of service?” Suki inquires, fanning herself.
“Aang, Katara, and Sokka have been kidnapped and are being held hostage.” I begin, earning shocked looks from the girls and Kahn. “What we do know is they’re being held on a small piece of land close to Ember Island.”
“The only island close enough to Ember Island is Yangchao Isle. It only has a couple tall buildings, mostly warehouses.” Kahn adds.
“Great,” I close my eyes and remember the events of the night I escaped. “The place where they’re being kept is heavily guarded. I almost died trying to escape.” Zuko glanced over at me, shooting me a reassuring smile.
“We were attacked by four men in masks, I’m guessing they’re the masterminds behind the whole thing.”
“Do you remember anything significant about their appearance?”
“Sadly, No. Just that there was an earth bender, a fire bender and a water bender.”
“What about the fourth one?” Ty Lee added.
“He just...stood there.”
After the meeting was over, we all agreed to meet at the rendezvous point the next day at 12 AM. Its the dock of a small island right next to Yangchao Isle. We decided to split up and prepare for sneaking in with our teams. Zuko and I, and Suki and Ty Lee. Kahn decided to work alone. He said he was going to dig up all the information he could on the Isle and the four masked men who took us. With everyone gone, that just left Zuko and I.
I notice the beautiful pool in the back, just waiting for me to jump in. I sprint to my room in the Fire Palace and quickly pull out a bikini from one if the drawers. Red and black...not quite my style but It’ll have to do. I slip it on and grab a towel, throwing it over my shoulder.
Making my way to Zuko’s room, I notice the door is slightly open, giving me a great view of Zuko. There he stands, shirtless, bouncing in place while pretending to play the guitar and humming a song. A song that seemed all too familiar.
“Secret, secret, secret, secret, tunnelllll!!”
He sings the last part of the tune out loud, causing me to let out the laugh I’d been holding in for far too long.
“HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN STANDING THERE?!”
“Long enough.” I muster out as I’m doubled over, unable to contain my laughter.
When he starts giggling along with me, I can’t help but look up at him and smile.
There’s that laugh again.
“Wait, why don’t you have any clothes on?” Zuko asks, trying not to stare.
“Well, I came over here to ask if you wanted to go in the pool with me?”
His straight face turned into the biggest smile I’ve seen on him yet.
“We might as well have some fun before we, ya know, possibly die.” I said, laughing between my words.
“Don’t say that.” Zuko chuckles.
He splashes me, soaking my hair.
“Oh you’re gonna regret that!” I shout at him, bending a huge bubble of water right above his head.
“Wait wait, Kasami NO-“
He shrieks as I release the water, soaking his entire body, clothes and all.
He looks over at me with a devious smirk, but before I realize what he’s up to, he swiftly runs up behind me. He goes to push me in the pool, but not before I can grab him and pull him in with me.
We spend the rest of night swimming and laughing. Forgetting the events of the past week and the plans to come, we enjoy each other’s company. Who would have thought I’d be here, with the Fire Lord.
After getting out of the pool we lay on his couch, in front of the fire. Despite being in the Fire Nation, the Palace was extremely cold. Unlike the Airbenders and Firebenders, I am unable to warm myself with my breathing. I shudder, goosebumps rising along my tan skin. Zuko takes notice and pulls my body closer to his, wrapping his arms around me. His body was warm to the touch, mine was cold, freezing, even. Soon enough, we both fell asleep. My head resting on his shoulder and his head resting on my own

Water Attracts Lightning // Zuko X Kasami (OC) [FanFiction]
Chapter 3: “we are rarely proud when we are alone.”
Kasami’s P.O.V
My eyes flutter open to the sight of a Fire Nation flag across from me. I try to sit up but I find that my body is too sore to move just yet. I notice various parts of my body have bandages.
Where am I?
I look to the other side of the dark and cold room to see a boy, sleeping on the couch next to my bed. I tilt my head and furrow my brows in confusion. His raven colored hair resting messily on his pillow and I can only see his toned, shirtless back. I can’t help but notice the scars and marks that run along his upper back. Maybe he’s a soldier? A warrior, perhaps.
Whoever he is, he must have been the one who bandaged me up.
I rub my temples to ease my pounding headache. I try to sit up again, successful, I hold on to the railing beside me. A sharp pain in my side causes me to yelp in pain as I clutch my waist.
Oh right..Thats where I had a knife thrown at me.
“Hello?” I call out to the mystery boy hoarsely. He sits up from his position on the couch and yawns, stretching his arms out above him. He turns around just as I recognize him from the scar on his face.
“No..”
I start scooting back on my bed.
“Wait wait, It’s okay!”
“Get away from me!” I scream out at him before I realize that I scooted too far. My body falls to the floor, right on the same side I have my deep cut. I yell out in pain, holding my side as I try to sit up. Zuko makes his way around the bed to my side, a look of apprehension and worry on his face. My long dark hair falling messily down to my waist in waves, and my cut face staring back up at him with anger.
“Wait! please!”
He shouts as I bend the water out of a cup on the nightstand at him. The small amount of water barely splashing his face, at most getting his hair wet. He groans in frustration, running his hand through his now soaked hair.
“KASAMI!”
He yells my name at the top his lungs, immediately stopping me in my tracks and gaining my attention.
“Just. Listen.” He enunciates, staring me down.
“If you would just stop trying to fight me, I can help you heal.”
He peered over at my now bleeding wound. My eyes glance down at my side. The cut must have reopened when I fell off the bed.
“Let me help you.”
He steps towards me as I give him an aggravated look. He goes to wrap his arm around me to try and help me up but I quickly slap it away.
“Don’t you dare touch me.”
I hiss out at him. I stared him down with every ounce of hatred in my body.
“Well I kinda have to if I’m going to get you up off the floor.” He sarcastically exclaimed, crossing his arms.
“Don’t you remember the last time you laid your hands on me, Prince Zuko?”
It was 3 years ago, the Gaang and I were on the run from, you guessed it, Prince Zuko himself. He had just captured me and was in the midst of bringing me onto his ship.
“You know it’s stupid keeping me here, right?”
Zuko glanced in my direction, an unamused expression on his face.
“They are long gone by now.”
“Don’t worry Kasami, as long as I have you, I already know they are bound to show up to your rescue.”
Zuko smirked at me. I know he’s right. As much as I begged for them to leave me and keep the mission going, that’s not who they are. I know they will be back and I know they’ll step right into his trap. They will all get hurt or even killed. Just because of me.
“How about a challenge. Just you and me, man to man.”
He glances in my direction and scoffs, rolling his eyes.
“What? Too scared I’ll beat you?”
“As if a Water Tribe peasant like you could ever stand a chance against the Fire Lord’s son.”
I mentally groan in annoyance and frustration. I have to make this work, or my friends will end up dead.
“Scared I’ll beat you in a fight just like your father did?”
A quick moment of silence is shared between the prince and I. He gets up and makes his way over to me. He snakes his hand around my throat and squeezes, making me unable to breath.
“If a fight is what you want, a fight is what you shall receive.” He growls under his breath, his face inches away from mine. He releases my throat, leaving me gasping for breath as he unleashes his breath of fire out into the sky. A show of his skill and strength.
“Release her!”
Zuko yells out to the guards as they untie my hands and feet.
“Foolish boy.”
We stand in front of each other in our fighting positions. He opens his hands of fire as I gather up my water, creating a cloud of ice daggers, ready to unleash on him at any moment. He punches multiple bursts of fire at me while I easily dodge his attacks. I release my ice daggers, effectively injuring multiple parts of his body.
“That all you got, Prince?” I sneered out at him, he was clearly no match for a waterbending master, especially one of my level. Well of course he didn’t know that at the time. He was doubled over, trying to catch his breath prior to unleashing his breath of fire. I winced in pain as I slightly got burnt.
“You’ll regret that.”
I release all of my water, knocking him down. Successfully, I bend water from the ocean beside us and freeze his entire body, leaving only his head out of the ice. He stared me down, seeming as if he was shooting daggers with his eyes. His breath was shaky and he was struggling to move his limbs, which were of course encased in ice.
“Come on, Zuko,” I laughed at the boy incapacitated in front of me. “That was just too easy.”
I wiped myself off and put my hand on my hip.
“I thought a water tribe peasant like me was no match for a Fire Prince,” I remarked sarcastically. “Oh wait! My apologies, banished Fire Prince.”
His face turned beet red, obviously infuriated. The Fire Prince had been beaten by a Water Tribe girl. He shamefully peered down at the ground. That didn’t seem to last long though, quickly after, his frown turned into a devious smirk. I raised an eyebrow at him. He peered over my shoulder but before I could turn around, it was too late. Everything seemed as if it were in slow motion. Prince Zuko’s soldiers chi blocked me, immediately making my bending abilities and my limbs useless. A look of terror spread across my face as he was freed from the ice I had previously encased him in.
“W-what are you doing?!” I shouted out, frantically looking around. His earthbender soldiers swiftly enclosed my hands and feet onto the ground with rocks.
“This wasn’t a part of the rules! It was just supposed to be me and you!”
He walked over to me, towering over the spot where I lay, unable to move.
“You are a coward, Prince Zuko.”
He bends over, looking down at me. Refusing to make eye contact with him, he lifts my chin with his finger. He squeezes my face harshly, forcing me to look up at him.
“And you are worthless.” He hissed out at me.
“Zuko, please. Why are you doing this?” I whispered softly. “You have to leave the Avatar alone, he is our one chance at peace.”
“You don’t understand. I’ve lost something of mine. My honor.”
“Why would you want to please the same man that has destroyed nations, killed families...innocent people.”
It almost looked like there was a glimpse of shame in his eyes. Maybe that was just wishful thinking.
“The Avatar is my last shot at restoring my honor and gaining my fathers love. I won’t let anything get in my way.”
I audibly groaned in anger.
“Why do you want the love of the same man who burned you, Zuko?!” I blurted out harshly.
He let go of my face and pushed me back, his fists balled in anger.
“Why are so obsessed with honor!? Just leave us alone!” I shouted out at him, tears threatening to fall.
“Nothing will get in my way.”
“God, Zuko. You are a coward. You are weak. You will never regain your honor.” I ruthlessly let out all of my frustration.
“I’LL SHOW YOU JUST HOW POWERFUL I AM!”
My eyes widen with fear as he whips his hands around in the air, channeling lightning from the dark, ominous clouds above us.
“Please..Please don’t do this.”
Zuko turns around with his lightning dancing and buzzing all around him, mostly focusing on his hands. He yells out as he swiftly points his two fingers at me, the lightning following.
“NO!”
Theres nothing I could do. My limbs were useless and encased in heavy rocks. I let my tears fall as I accepted my fate. The last thing I remember were his golden eyes staring into mine. When I woke up, I was on Appa with Aang right beside me. I was badly damaged on a small part of my left jaw, which continued all the way down the side of my neck, to my shoulder.
That night has haunted me ever since.
I delicately traced the outline of my scar with my finger. My eyes swelled up with tears, but there was no way in hell I’d let Zuko see me cry.
“Well..Y-You know I’m different now! Plus all the shit you said to me, I just-“
“How could you ever do that to someone else? The same way your father scarred you, you did to me. I was powerless,” I glared up at him as I got up on my own, holding onto the railing of the bed. “You lied and you cheated. I had you beat and you couldn’t stand it.”
He seemed to wince as if my words had physically hurt him, but then he just turned back and looked at me coldly.
“Well I still beat you, didn’t I?”
I scoffed in shock.
“You are still the same coward who burned me on that boat all those years ago.” I snapped at him, pushing him as I tried to make my way to the door. I was quickly stopped by him spinning me around and pinning me to the wall. With his hand at the base of my neck, he glared down at me.
“I am the Fire Lord. I am not-“
“You seem to still have a habit of choking me, don’t you Zuko?” I stared up at him with my eyebrow raised.
“W-what? No! I-“
Watching him get all flustered was the funniest thing, but sadly I can’t keep teasing men and waste any more time. I quickly caught him off guard when he loosened his grip. I pushed past him and made my way to the door.
“Kasami! You know you are still too weak to be going out.” He started, “At least stay a couple more days so you can heal. You have get stronger if we want to get our friends back.”
I whipped my head around to see him standing with his arms crossed.
“How do you know? and what do you mean we?”
I mimicked his stance with an annoyed look plastered across my face.
“You were talking about it all night in your sleep, and yes, I’m coming with you whether you like it or not.”
“There is no way Im going anywhere with you.”
“Yeah I’d rather not be anywhere near you, but these are our friends I’m talking about, Kasami.”
As much as I hate admitting it, I know he’s right.
“Fine! But I don’t want you in here while I heal.”
“Well it’s my-“
“Zuko.”
“Okay fine.”
I begin to walk slowly towards my bed, shuffling my feet against the dark wood floor.
“Hey! Wait, let me help-“
“Zuko I’m fine I can do it myself.” I blew him off as I tried to walk but quickly after a few seconds the floor seemed to sway beneath my feet and my legs went weak. I fell to my hands and knees.
“Damnit, damnit, damnit.” I curse under my breath.
“Oh god.” Zuko rushes over to my side. He snakes his arm around my waist and puts my arm around his neck. I wince at his touch, but I’m in too much agony to do anything about it. I peer down to the floor, almost shamefully, as he picks up my body from off the floor. He’s definitely not the same boy I fought with years ago. That boy would have never even helped me in the first place. How am I supposed to work together with, let alone trust the same man who burned me? Left me for dead with no remorse?
He struck me...with lightning.
I had to spend days trying to convince Aang not to tell the others about what had happened to me. After the last time I even tried to trust Zuko, I knew I would end up being the one who got hurt.
Zuko’s P.O.V
I slipped my arm around Kasami’s waist and lifted her up off the floor, trying to be as gentle as I possibly could. I notice her doing everything in her power to look away from me. You’d think after saving her life and helping her I’d at least get a thank you? Well, I did burn her, but that’s beside the point. I laid her down on my bed. I reached behind her to grab the pillows, but my hand accidentally moved some of her hair away from her face. My eyes fixated on her scar, her eyes still avoiding mine. A dark pink raised lightning bolt shape ran from the bottom of her jaw, down her neck, and reaching all the way to her shoulder. The surrounding area had gone a softer pink, pale with age. Much like my own scar. How could I have done this? My own horrible memories of earning my mark taunting me, as I lightly run my hand down her scar. After realizing what I’m doing, I quickly snap back into reality as Kasami looks up at me with a concerned and fearful expression. She looks...scared.
“Sorry. I-I’ll leave now. Just...Just shout to maids if you need anything.” I stutter on my words as I make my way out of the bedroom. I can feel her eyes piercing through my back as she watched me walk out. I close the door and lean back against it, slowly sliding down to ground. I raise my knees to my chest and lay my head in my palms.
Part of me feels a sickening pit in my stomach. How could I have put her through that? I feel so completely and utterly ashamed of actually making her afraid of me...of hurting her. The other part of me wants to point the blame to her. If she hadn’t provoked me then I wouldn’t have...Damnit Zuko, stop it! Im a different person now. Growing up with a father like mine, I guess you could say I’m still trying to let go of that part of me. Key word “trying”.
Sokka’s P.OV
My eyes open to see a cage, and my own hands trapped in metal. I look around, groggily trying to walk to the front of my cage. I spot Katara, still sleeping in her own prison.
Wait.
“Where’s Aang and Kasami?!” I grab onto the bars of my cage and start vigorously shaking it.
“Sokka?” Katara asked, rubbing her eyes. “What the hell is going on?”
“Kasami and Aang aren’t here!”
“D-don’t worry Sokka! I’m sure they’re fine.” Katara’s motherly instincts kicking in as she tries to console me.
I groan and shake my cage even more, making as much noise as possible.
A door shutting in the distance immediately catches my attention.
“What a shame.”
A man in a dark robe circles around our cages.
“Such young children, filled with so much hope.”
“Where. Is. Kasami?” I snap at him.
“Oh you mean the one who tried to escape last night?”
She tried to escape?
“Sorry to tell you, but unfortunately we had to shoot her down. I guess you could say she was...” The mystery man raised his hand, fire sprouting from his palm. “taken care of.”

Water Attracts Lightning // Zuko X Kasami (OC) [FanFiction]
Chapter 2: “It’s hard to hate someone once you understand them.”
Zuko's P.O.V
"Excuse me, Fire Lord."
I shoot up from my bed. Who the hell has the nerve to come into my bedroom and wake me at this hour? My dark brown almost black hair is unbrushed, and in a complete mess. My face obviously tired, the bags underneath my eyes are getting more noticeable every day.
"Show yourself."
I angrily spit out. I know i'm being unreasonable but at this point I'm so tired I don't even know what I'm doing. The woman steps into my room from the doorway.
"Mai. How many times do I have to tell you to not come into my chambers."
I turn away from her, clearly distraught and running my fingers through my hair.
"Well Zuko-"
"Its Fire Lord to you."
Mai crosses her arms and rolls her eyes, shifting her weight. Clearly unamused from my tone of voice.
"Sorry, Fire Lord. The generals requested your presence in the dining hall."
"Great,"
I roll my eyes.
"You can leave now."
"Zuko, if you hate me so much then why am I still living here?"
"Mai..just drop it."
"No Zuko. I'm tired of this hostility, it feels like you don't even care about me anymore."
She must think I'm stupid. As if I'm going to sit around and let her underestimate me. Take me as some fool. No. As the Fire Lord I have eyes and ears all over the entire fire nation.
"Don't think I don't know exactly where you go after dark, Mai. Leave. Now."
I snapped at her. I see her eyes widen as she realizes that I know everything.
"Z-zuko I'm sorry. With you and I fighting all the time I took comfort in him and-"
"Save your lies. We're done here. Leave the palace and don't come back,"
"You're lucky I'm not banishing you."
Mai goes to say something but quickly bites her tongue. She looks down sadly and finally decides to leave my chamber. I hate this. I hate this dark place. Thinking to myself, I'm suddenly interrupted by a small knock at my door.
"Mai I told you to get out, dont make me-,"
One of my servants peeks her head in through the door and lifts a cup of tea to my view.
"Oh. Sorry."
"I'm sorry to bother you Fire Lord Zuko, I was wondering if you would like some Jasmine Tea?"
"Thank you. Is there any news?"
"Yes sir. Your beach house on Ember Island has been completely redone and is ready for you whenever you wish."
This is great! I finally get to take a break from this dreadful palace. I finally get to relax on my own. No Mai, no people, no problems.
"Pack my bags and ready a ship right away. I want to be there by tonight."
"Yes sir."
She scurries out of my room after setting my tea down on my night stand. I take a few sips and breathe. Finally. I get up out of my king bed and look in the mirror. My tired eyes and disheveled appearance staring back at me.
"I look like shit."
I wash my face and brush my hair, excited for my night at Ember Island. I haven't been there since I went with Katara, Aang, Sokka, Toph and Suki a couple years ago. I can't help but be a little envious of Katara and Aang, and Sokka and Suki. I haven't seen them in so long. All of them seem to be so secure in their relationships, loving, and know how to communicate. When Mai and I were dating, all we did was fight. I shake my head and try to forget those times. I put on my traditional Fire Lord clothes and get ready for my depart. As I exit my door the captain of my ship notifies me that everything is ready.
"Lets go."
I step onboard. We take off and finally, I have a smile on my face.
Kasami's P.O.V
"My head.."
I groan in pain as I open my eyes.
"Oh no,"
I notice my hands are bound with metal and chains, and I frantically look around to try and figure out where the hell I am. I hear a small whimper come from next to me. Aang's hands and feet are bound as well.
"Aang! Wake up!"
With no response, I realize he's still out cold. Shit! What the hell happened? I close my eyes and try to remember the events of the other morning. It comes back in bits and pieces, but as I look around I notice something.
"Where's Katara and Sokka?"
I whisper to myself, looking around for my friends. Suddenly, I hear the sound of a door being opened in the distance.
"Well what do we have here?"
I whip my head around to see a tall man, not much older than myself. His light brown eyes glaring at me like he knows that I am powerless.
"What's your name again sweetheart?"
He smirks at me. I glare back at him, staring him down.
"What do you want?"
I spat at him, stepping closer to the bars of my cage.
"That was not the answer to my question gorgeous."
"Where are my friends?"
"Still not the answer, but I'll let that one slide."
"Where do you have them?"
I raise my voice, obviously getting angry. He swiftly runs up to my cage while getting his small, pitch black pocket knife out from his jacket.
"You should know better than to speak to me with that tone little girl,"
"After all, I'm the one who knows how to chi block. I can easily take away your bending."
Little girl? Chi blocked? What happened to us?
"If you don't tell me where they are I swear to god I'll-"
Before I can finish my sentence he grabs my neck and pulls me closer. He opens his knife and puts it on my throat.
"You'll do what?"
He angrily spits at me. I look up at him, staring with all the hatred in my body.
"Just tell me if they're okay."
"Well..I wouldn't say that they are doing too well. That Sokka has a smart mouth you know, the boss doesn't let anyone, and I mean anyone disrespect him."
My eyes widen at his words.
"and Katara...she's got too much of a temper. Lets just say we had to give her a small punishment."
He smirks at me as he runs his blade dangerously close to my neck. With one swift move he could easily end my life right then and there. Thankfully, he lowers it down. If anyone knows me at all, the one thing you should never do, is mess with the people I love.
"I promise you, if you do anything to them I will end you."
"Shhh..we wouldn't want your friends to end up like mom and dad, would you?"
My eyes widen even more, my blood boiling. My fists balled inside their metal prison, and my nails digging into my palms.
"It's so pathetic watching someone beg for their life when you threaten them with a little...fire."
He lifts his pointer finger, a tiny flame sprouting from it. That's enough.
"Who the hell do you think you are? Let my friends go now before I end you and anyone-"
My face reddens and my eyes glowing with spite. I see him drop his blade as he looks at me with fear.
"-you've ever loved. You are going to wish you had never been born."
At this point I'm screaming, blinded by my loathing for this boy. I don't notice until after I'm done unleashing my words that he's now on his knees looking up at me.
"What the hell are you doing?!"
"Its not m-me!"
I look down and notice my hands pointed towards him. Am I...blood bending? I make him stand up as I watch him groan in pain.
"How...are you...doing this?"
He musters out as I lift him off the ground.
"Making you wish you were never born."
I bend his blood to make him point his own blade towards himself. I smile as I see the fear in his eyes, my own hatred and guilt from not being able to save my family blinding me from seeing anything else.
"P-please! I'll do anything! Please stop."
"Unlock my cage and my hands, or I will NOT hesitate to drive this blade straight into your-"
"Okay! I'll do it!"
I drop him from off the ground and he lands on his knees. He unlocks my cage and releases my hands. Observing and shaking them off, I look up at him.
"Finally."
My smirk suddenly turns into a face of concern as I hear Aang behind me.
"Kasami?"
I whip my head around to see him rubbing his eyes in his prison.
"Aang! You're okay!"
I run over to his cage and hug him through the bars.
"Are you hurt anywhere? What ca-"
"WATCH OUT!"
I turn around and move swiftly out of the way as the man who unlocked my cage throws his blades in my direction. Missing most of them, one blade cuts my side pretty deep. I yell in pain as I look down to see the side of my waist bleeding profusely.
"I thought I already demonstrated to you what happens when you make me angry!"
Lifting my hands up and focusing on his blood, I make him drop the remainder of his blades and lift him off the ground. He writhes in pain as I continue to bend him. Before I can notice the shadow behind me, a different man comes up from behind and chi blocks me, temporarily stopping my bending abilities but not my arms.
"Shit!"
They boy drops onto the floor as I turn around to fight. I swiftly aimed for his face and connected. As he jabs and punches I manage to dodge his every move. He must not know who he's fighting. I smirk as I chi block his arms, making him unable to move them.
"You're not the only one who knows how to chi block."
The other boy comes up from behind and swings his legs onto mine, effectively knocking me onto the ground. I jump back up quickly and go for a hit to his face. He blocks my jab, then counter punches me in my jaw, and then in my nose. I cough and step back as I wipe the blood off my face. I jump up as he swings at me again, holding onto the bars on the ceiling above him. He misses me and accidentally punches the other man. I hop down behind him and kick his back, effectively pushing the both of them onto the ground. Their heads hitting the ground and successfully making them go unconscious.
"Kasami! Are you alright?"
Aang yells as I limp over to him, bruised and bleeding.
"I'm fine. Now let's try to find a way to open this cage."
"I don't think we're gonna have enough time for that."
He points over to the group of guards entering from the east doorway, one group after the other.
"No..There's gotta be more than fifty men."
They all start running up the staircase towards them.
"Kasami quick, take this whistle climb to the top and call Appa. Get out of here!"
"Aang are you crazy?! No way am I leaving you here."
The men getting dangerously close every second, Aang looks down at me.
"Kasami, you have to go get help, there's no way you can take every single one of these guys yourself."
I look up at him, tears swelling in my eyes.
"You have to go. You cannot win by yourself. I know you'll come back for us with reinforcements."
Aang gives me a goofy, but reassuring smile.
"I promise. I'll come back and save you guys as fast as I can."
It goes against everything in my body to leave the most important people in my life, but I know Aang is right. I have to go. I climb back up onto the next floor and find a doorway that leads me up to the roof. I blow Aang's bison whistle and hope Appa will hear it. A couple seconds go by and I notice Appa flying in the distance. I flail my arms in the air and yell for him.
"Come on buddy! Right here!"
Appa lands on the roof next to me. I run up to him and hug his huge body
"Thank you."
Before I could even begin to get on Appa, a group of fire bender guards appear from behind me.
"Stop right there!"
They all charge at once, I get burnt and hit multiple times.
"Stop...please."
I whisper quietly as I try to get out of their grasp. I know its too late to climb onto Appa from the roof. I know what I need to do. A guard tightens his grip on my ankle before I kick him, forcing him to let go. I scramble to my feet and begin to run to the edge.
"Come on Appa!"
I scream for him hoping he'll understand what to do. I fling myself off the edge of the roof, Appa speeding towards me. A couple seconds too late, I manage to grab on to one of his legs.
"Go boy, go!"
I urge him to keep flying even though I am hanging on by a thread. The guards start throwing fire towards our direction, successfully burning me on my side and arm. I wince in pain, my entire body in agony. As Appa flies away,  I can feel myself slipping. My skin burnt and bruised, my cut still bleeding profusely. I manage to hang on to Appa for a little bit longer before I notice a small island coming into view.
"I can't...I can't hold on any longer."
My consciousness slips from me as I let go of Appa, falling onto the the small island.
Zuko's P.O.V
"Fire Lord Zuko, welcome to your Ember Island villa."
My servant opens the huge doors to my vacation home, I walk right in and look out my windows to see the beach right in front.
"Thank you. You may leave me now."
He bows and quickly runs off. Finally. Relaxation. This is the first vacation I've had in years and the most privacy I've gotten in a long, long time. I step outside on my own private beach, and lay down my towel to lay in the sun. Without warning, I hear a faint scream from the woods surrounding the beach. Followed by a thud, I swiftly get up and look around.
"What was that?"
I step into the woods, walking in the direction I heard the scream from. I notice broken branches in front of me, so I must be going the right way. I peer over the corner of a rock to see a girl, laying on her stomach on the forest floor. Her long dark hair in a complete mess. I quickly run over to her. Shes bleeding and hurt, bruises all over her body. I notice a water tribe symbol on her bracelet. Whats a water tribe girl doing in the fire nation? I turn her over and brush the hair out of her face. My eyes widen and my body grows tense as I finally realize who it is.
"Oh my god...Kasami?"
She opens her eyes just the tiniest bit and opens her mouth to say something.
"Help."
She manages to muster out one word before falling back to sleep. As much as I hate this woman, she's bleeding out. I can't just leave her here. That's something my father would do, and I refuse to be like him. I take my shirt off and rip it into strips, tying it around her wounds to make sure she doesn't bleed too much. I pick her up, her head resting on my chest. I trek back to my villa and call out for all my assistants.
"Get the healers here immediately and make sure she doesn't die."
"Right away, sir."
I lay her broken body down onto my bed, and begin to collect the supplies for my healers. Good thing I brought then, or she would certainly be dead right now.
After hours of helping clean her up and bandaging her wounds, I finally got to lay down. I rested on the couch next to my bed. I watched her for hours to make sure she was still breathing.
"What happened to you?"
"Wheres Katara, Sokka, and Aang?"
I whispered quietly to myself, wondering about everything that happened.
After a while, I drifted off in to sleep.

Water Attracts Lightning // Zuko X Kasami (OC) [FanFiction]
Chapter 1: “the prince of darkness is a gentleman”
“Wait..it was you?”
My village, destroyed. My mother, my father, and my little sister. All of them dead. His eyes glanced back at me, confused but still without emotion.
“You’re the one that destroyed my village? Killed my family?”
“W-wait Kasami..That was your village?”
“You’re responsible for the death of my family..Y-you’re a monster!”
His face of confusion suddenly turns into a smile. Flames surround us as he laughs at me with pity. I look around frantically as I know now theres no way out. His golden eyes glowing with power and hatred. He lifts his hand as blue flames suddenly form.
“Please don’t hurt me”
I try to water bend but I realize too late that my powers are gone. He whips his hands around, channeling his lightning and the last thing I see are his eyes as he strikes.
“AHHH!!”
“Kasami wake up!”
Suddenly, I’m awakened by Sokka as I gasp for air, holding my neck.
“What happened? Are you okay?”
Sokka looks down at me with his concerned blue eyes. His hand holds my face as he caresses my cheek with his thumb, his other hand holding my shoulder. I look up at him with tears swelling up in my eyes.
“I-I’m sorry it was just a really bad dream.”
I look down with defeat while tracing my scar on the side of my neck delicately with my finger.
“Hey don’t ever apologize, its nothing you should be ashamed of.”
I immediately pull Sokka into a tight hug, letting my tears fall into his shirt. I know I should tell him about what happened between me and him. I cant seem to tell my story to anyone let alone one of my best friends. Still, after years of seeing that man, my mind cant seem to forget. Its like I’m reliving that night, over and over again.
“You know you can always talk to me, right?”
Sokka sits down on the floor next to me as I rest my head on his shoulder.
“I know. Don’t worry about me Sokka, it was just a stupid dream. I’m better now.”
“With me here of course”
Sokka smirks at me and squeezes my shoulder. I roll my eyes and give him a slight laugh.
“Are the love birds not awake yet?”
Katara and Aang are my best friends, but it still grosses me out to see them kissing every 10 minutes.
“No they’re still asleep. Thank god.”
“Jealous you can’t get a girlfriend Sokka?”
I smirk at him as he shoots his head in my direction.
“NO. I have plenty of lovely ladies just waiting for me back at Ba Sing Se.”
“Oh really? and who might these lovely ladies be?”
I roll my eyes and raise an eyebrow at him
“Uh..Well theres...I got nothin’.”
Sokka looks down sadly and crosses his arms as I laugh.
“Poor Sokka.”
I stick my bottom lip out, making a pouty face as I mock him.
“It’s okay Sokka, the girl of your dreams might be closer than you think.”
I smile up at him and put my hand on his shoulder. Sokka looks over at me, I can see him slightly blushing. I’ve always wondered if Sokka and I would ever become something more than just friends, but it’s so hard to tell. Every time Suki and him break up he starts flirting with me, but when I flirt back, he always ends up insulting me in some way or he gets with some other girl. Or maybe i’m just over thinking everything and he only thinks of me as a friend. I groan in frustration.
“Is something wrong?”
“Oh..uh..no! I just forgot I had to do some, uh, thing. See ya!”
I quickly get up and jog away. Shit! Why did I do that out loud? I always seem to ruin the good moments don’t I.
“Kasami! Have you seen Katara?”
Aang runs up to me, clearly ridden with anxiety and extremely out of breath.
“Aang? Whats going on? I didn’t even know you were awake yet!”
“Katara is missing, I cant find her anywhere.”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure shes just down at the market getting some food for our trip.”
I look up at him, hoping I can bring him some sort of comfort.
“I already looked at the market, she’s not there Kasami.”
My eyes widen. Now I’m a little worried.
“Okay, lets grab our stuff quick and we’ll head down to the town to go look for her.”
“Thank you,”
We head to the room with our stuff, but when I open the door to the closet I see Katara and Sokka both tied up with cloth covering their mouths.
“KATARA!”
“SOKKA!”
It looks like they have metal around their hands. Who did this? My eyes widen as they look behind us and desperately try to yell. I swiftly turn around to see 4 masked men standing behind Aang and I.
“Its a trap!”
Aang yells as he fire bends at the masked men. I quickly get my water out and go to bend at them, but before I can even begin, the earth bender bends metal onto my hands, stopping me from water bending. I try to use my legs to knock him onto the ground but the other one grabs my foot and twists it, successfully making me fall onto the floor. Aang tries to fight them off but he’s quickly overpowered and subdued. Damn it Aang we could seriously use the avatar state right now! My vision becomes spotty after my head slams onto the hard ground. I see Aang being tied up and the fear in my best friends’ eyes. Its the same look I saw in my family’s eyes before I lost them to the flames all those years ago.
“Please...not again.”
I manage to muster out those words before the earth bender picks me back up and slams me back onto the ground. The last thing I see is darkness.
