Got a new scanner and needed to get used to it. Soooo much faffing about with the contrast... It's nice that it's scanning with a lot more detail, but sometimes I just need the lineart without any of the remaining pencils underneath... Whatever, learning curves.
Thought this was a good idea and a cool match up. Big, angry Irish barbarian hero Slaine (of 2000AD fame. Go read The Horned God, it's a brilliant intro to the character and Simon Bisley's painted artwork is the best!) going up against the Predator, because why not? Also got Slaine's dwarven sidekick Ukko down there in the bottom left corner. Also because why not? Definitely need to work on my foliage a fair bit, but still!

Once again, doing things for fun and no profit. Back doing another silly idea for introducing some more hypothetical international characters to the MCU.
Here's Motormouth and her junior partner, Killpower. Yes, they're both real. They're a couple of Marvel UK characters from back in the 90's, if Killpower's name and build didn't give it away. They had their own comic and are still occasionally referenced in the current Marvel continuity. I think… Last I saw they both popped up in Paul Cornell's Captain Britain and MI:13 series in cameo form, not sure if they've been seen since.
Anyway, what's their MCU story? Harley 'Motormouth' Davis is an MI:5 operative with a love of punk rock and a tendency to curse up an absolute storm. After several months without any concrete results, it looked like her investigation into the rumours of industrial espionage and domestic terrorism by MYS-Technologies was a bust. This all changed following a failed (and VERY unauthorised) field operation on an unregistered MYS-Tech research facility outside of Manchester. Accidentally triggering a proximity alarm, Davis was attacked and seriously wounded by one of the facility's security personell, a large hulking figure known as Julius. The product of MYS-Tech's attempt at their own super soldier army, Julius, or Jules as he would much prefer, was designed to protect MYS-Tech's assets both out in the field and their own property. In order to promote loyalty to the company, Julius was designed to mature at a rapid rate while keeping his mentality childlike and his worldview limited. Jules thinks of all his actions similar to that of a computer game, therefore his attitude to killing is as consequential as that of your average Fortnite or CoD player. That all changed the night he shot Harley in the throat. Taking a liking to her, mainly because he thought her blue and white hair looked cool, Jules brought her back to the lab he was created in and using the advanced tech on the site, fixed up her vocal chords and her windpipe. While keeping her hidden from his superiors, Jules and Harley became close, despite Harley's hesitance . Jules wanted to know more about the world outside, mainly to see if he could change up what he looked like like Harley did. Harley wanted to know what were MYS-Tech planning, developing super-soldiers and other borderline-illegal assets. Eventually, becoming friends, Harley and Jules made their escape. Harley learning that her new cybernetically-enhanced throat came complete with a wide range of Sonic-abilities including a Sonic-Scream. She later found out Jules added these features because he thought they'd be cool. Following a debrief back at base, Harley and Jules were transferred over to MI:13, the UK's equivalent of SHIELD and given codenames and uniforms. They've primarily been deployed in domestic situations and have become known throughout the country. Some newspapers speculating on whether they'll join the Avengers or some other equivalent team.
Designing these guys was a challenge for two very different reasons. Motormouth rarely had a costume which wasn't just the punk-rock chick design and Killpower was pure 90's big-guns, shoulder pads and pouches… Motormouth, turns out, DID have a more traditional costume. I took the colour scheme and some of the design, but mostly did my own thing here. Tried to give both hers and Killpower's costumes a utilitarian design. It's meant to be 'real-worldy' after all. For her hair, I didn't like the original cut they gave her and instead tried modelling it off of Aimee Interrupter, of The Interrupters fame (an AWESOME Ska-Punk band, go check-em out!). Kept the colours though. Threw a leather jacket on her, because that's clearly a thing I do now. I blame that on the same 90's trend which affected Superboy, Rogue and several others at the time… Killpower (Jules decided on his codename because he thought it sounded cool…) was a bit more difficult. Again, tried to keep it utilitarian and match it up with some of the elements of Motormouth's. Kept the colours and moved stuff around. The hardware was a fun idea I had. Since I decided to keep the exaggerated size of him ( I was thinking his height is about Hulk-size, nowhere near as strong, but it was by MYS-Tech's design.), I had to figure out the guns would make sense. I decided, since we can these days, Killpower designed and 3-D Printed a few weapons to fit his giant hands! Also gave him a big heavy machine gun. I used a M1919 Browning machine gun as my reference, so I would suppose it'd be one of them, adapted for him to use, of course.
May do more, dunno yet!

Remember when I said that Kate Griffin's A Madness Of Angels had some great visuals in it and I drew Matthew Swift hiding from the Litterbug? Yeah, I decided to try another...
Here's Matthew facing off against the dragon made of bits of the City of London. I included some concrete to break up the metal bits, but tried to stick to the description best I could. Think it turned out alright...

Been attempting Full-Colour comics again! Behold! Loiterers, Issue 2! The Good Knight Rises! This took ages, mostly because I was working on it between other things and trying to get to grips with my graphics tablet. Seriously, look at the difference between the colours on the first page of the story and the last...
Anyway! Check it out and let me know how many locations I got wrong around Leeds! Everything is accurate to where it is when I wrote and drew the thing...

This may take some explaining....
Okay, so I joined the local (to me) comics collective earlier this year! And on one of the drink and draw gatherings, a 24 minute comic challenge was issued! In 24 minutes, you must draw a comic, based on the prompt: Smog Fuck.
So I did something. Then since I had some free time, I decided to redraw it, with colour, and lettering. Anyway, here's Chris and Dave finding a new suspicious website...

So I had a go at some more fully digital art. Still not convinced it's my thing, but again, any experimentation is worth exploring. Started trying to do something more in my normal style ended up turning it into an animation style reminiscent of the old 90's Spider-man cartoon. Kinda pleased with the shading, the background... not so much.
Anyway, Astonishing Spider-Man vs. the weird Cthuloid Doc Ock, I created! Because why not?

After a long convention, the gang's finally flying back home. It's also Halloween. And the boys lost a bet against Jo, so they had to dress up for the flight.
In proper working class British tradition, we've got Dave sporting the Poundshop Frankenstein's Monster mask, a tatty t'shirt and some permanent marker stitches, and Chris, modelling the old classic Binbag Dracula! Complete with Glow-in-the-dark plastic vampire fangs and fingers!
It's been a long month, but a fun one. I enjoyed having a go at some weird variations on characters as cosplays and I might return to the con concept in future things. Who knows.

The Crow prompt turned up last year, so I did Eric from that then. This time round I did a little reference to something I heard about a while ago from the film franchise.
Before the first sequel, City of Angels, there were a couple of other ideas for sequels. Mostly bad attempts at bringing Eric back for some reason. Anyway, one idea, I think from James O'Barr, was a female Crow. I can't remember the full idea but I do remember seeing a couple of pieces he did as a concept and the mention of her being a bride. I think he did a comic adaptation since the film pitch fell through. I may have imagined with all this since I can't find the youtube video where I got all this. It was a Goodbadflicks Exploring vid, may not be available in the UK anymore or again I could have imagined the whole thing.
Other possible sequels included one set in 19th Century England, one in the world of Gangsta Rap starring DMX and Eminem, and weird post-apocalyptic one written and directed by Rob Zombie which sounded gloriously insane! Anyway, Blood-splattered Crow-Bride!

Not read much Shojo horror either. But I have read some Junji Ito! And he did at least one I've heard of, Tomie!
Tomie Kawakami is the eponymous main character in the manga and by all accounts is the worst person in it. There's psychological horror, a looot of manipulation, blood, gore and all manner of nasty stuff. I may read it, because she's also got weird regenerative and assimilation powers, might even be some sort of succubus. Or I might just get Gyo or read Uzumaki again.
Tried basing this off that meme that sometimes foes the rounds. Think I did alright...

Never saw the old TV show, however I do remember them turning it into a Saturday morning cartoon. Yes really. Had the same voice actor playing the Crypt Keeper. Everything was toned down from the original comics for obvious reasons, but it was still good fun!
EC Comics was responsible for Tales From The Crypt, The Haunt Of Fear and The Vault Of Horror. There were probably others, but they were the big three titles.

Late shift means late post means double post today!
I know very little about Dick Tracy apart from a singe Daffy Duck parody 'toon and a Simpsons reference featuring a young Ned Flanders mentioning him, Pruneface, Prune Tracy and someone else I can'tt remember.
I know there was a film starring and directed by Warren Beatty which I've not seen. I think he still wants to do a sequel?

Too much choice for this one methinks. Also, it's been a busy non-drawing day. Anyway, here's a list of big Black and White comic hits which happened in the 80's in no particular order:
Maus, Concrete, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mage, Cerebus, Akira, Dragon Ball, Warrior (a British comic anthology), a good chunk of 2000Ad still, Love and Rockets, Tank Girl, Berserk, The Crow, Dark Horse Comics started in '86, Usagi Yojimbo, The Tick, and probably many, many others who I can't recall off the top of my head and cba googling because this is now late...

Never saw Aeon Flux, didn't have MTV. From what I can gather from Wikipedia, it was a cartoon show by Peter Chung that first aired on Liquid Television. It was a weird Sci-Fi show which dipped a lot into themes of biopunk, psychological drama and Gnostic symbolism. None of which super appeal to me... Maybe the biopunk angle....
Anyway, all I know is the main character, Aeon, is super skinny and nearly all legs.... Probably in need of a sandwich...

That poster of the pharoah-looking gent dies look really familiar...
Bit of self-indulgence with this one. Couple of years ago, I did a daft connected attempt at a themed run of October drawings. It was called Apoctober and I did a thing involving Lovecraft and a superhero apocalypse. It was as daft as it sounded. Anyway, I made Nyarlathotep the main bad guy and did him up as a Doctor Doom-esque supervillain. And since I really liked the design, I had to occasionally reuse him...
Anyway, stay away from comic people who want to sacrifice actual chickens on the convention floor...
