For me it's crazy how Zuko was always afraid of Azula, as young as probably 4y old? While Azula was like... 2?

Azula was really born and everyone already taking their prejudice on her cuz Ozai decided that was her favorite cuz she was born with the spark while the kid was still on diapers, are you kidding me? No wonder she's the way she is 😭

No matter how badly they write her in some comics, I could never hate on that kid. Literally the entire world is against her and the fact her mental health have gone worse and NO ONE decided that maybe those institutions are bullshit makes me want for her to just go her own way and never ever again go back to her family.

If we are going by the TV show, Azula was in an environmental and numbers disadvantage during the Boiling Rock fight, Bryke confirmed that she was already starting to unravel during the "The Southern Raiders" fight, Iroh said that Zuko would need help when confronting Azula during Sozin's Comet, and Zuko only agreed to an Agni Kai with her because something was off with her aka she was having a psychotic break.

If we included the entire extended lore, yes Zuko can make dragon fire and fire jet in the South Pole at night while holding a grown man, and (probably) has surpassed Ozai, but Azula as of her latest appearance is the GOAT firebender.

She can completely modulate the strength of her lighting (she can make zaps, instant, quick-charge, and full-charged lightning), make ball lightning, shoot multiple bolts of lightning from one hand, redirect lightning, control her lightning after firing it, make a pseudo chidori, has psychic smokebending, has faster fire jets, and her flames stay blue after releasing them from her control.

And this doesn't getting into the fact that it is implied she can dual wield two of her smoke, fire, and lightningbending, or that it is heavily implied she has been holding back in Smoke and Shadow and her solo comic due to a combination of wanting Zuko alive so she can turn him into a tyrant and still caring for her (former) loved ones.

So regardless if you are show-only purist or acknowledge the extended universe, there is no point in which Zuko ever surpasses Azula.

I hate when a fandom looks at parents in fiction and decides there are only TWO kinds of parents:

Abusive Parents OR Perfect Parents.

It's rarely as narrow as that. Some are abusive, some are flawed yet still good, some won't admit their flaws, and the list goes on and on. Similar complexities carry over to parent characters in fiction.

LOL! This is probably the canon reason considering the Kyoshi Novels, tabletop game, "Legacy of the Fire Nation", and TLOK basically say when read together that that the Royal Family had engaged in a centuries long cycle of harmful sibling favoritism, and so Zuko decided to break it by only having one child.

It's very telling that Izumi, the first heir and Fire Lord to not be subject to the cycle, has two kids.
