Having an invisible disability is tough. When I use the elevator at my school to get to the second floor, people see a lazy dude using luxuries he doesn’t need. They don’t see the way I got ready from school, sitting down and crawling to get around. They don’t see how it took me 4 minutes and 3 breaks to get up the stairs at home. They don’t see the pain, or the flare up. They just see someone who needs to be “educated”.

The Raven Cycle + accents

This started off with an idea about Ronan liking Adam’s accent but then (apologies this is so long):

Gansey has an accent like old money

Its southern for sure but its somehow more than that too

Its deep and rich and feels like warm summer nights

The whole gangsey loves listening to him speak, especially if he’s telling a story (not that any of them would admit it)

He speaks politely and hardly ever swears but even so

There is something intimate about his voice, like you are special

Like you are part of something secret

Something more

When he talks about the places he has been

Poland, Wales, England

Europe, the Americas

He picks up the slightest infections of the accents from those places

His vowels change shape or his words flow differently, just slightly

He has no idea he does it and none of the gangsey are about to tell him in case he stops

Ronan was born and raised in Henrietta but growing up in The Barns means he never spent much time with anyone outside of his family when he was still young

His father was pure blood irish with an accent to match

Aurora spoke english but with the accent of the dream language

Part irish, part latin

The result of this was Ronan having a vaguely irish-american accent with just a little latin in the vowels

He speaks in curses and swears and growls or laughs most of his words so most people don’t realise that his accent is anything but american

The gangsey knows

Adam, Opal and Chainsaw are the only ones to even hear Ronan’s voice when he isn’t growling or cursing

Adam thinks Ronan’s voice is beautiful

Adam has a Henrietta accent through and through

His vowels are rounded and his words clipped

He grew up hearing sugar and darlin’ and sweetheart at the beginning and end of every other sentence

His accent is thick with trailer park dust and hazy summer heat and he hates it

As soon as he applied to Aglionby and started saving for his first year there he started trying to lose it

Hide it behind sophisticated words and mamm’s and sirs

Sometimes it makes his words sound awkward and forced but he brushes past it because at least they don’t sound clumsy and southern

When he finally moves past his independence complex and starts growing closer to Ronan he lets it slip more and more

Ronan adores Adam’s accent because it reminds him of blowing off school for quests and adventures

It reminds him of impossible dream things and the swoosh of long summer grass in the breeze

It reminds him of filtered sunlight through trees and Adam, and Adam is home

When Adam comes to terms with himself he stops trying to hide it

The day he goes to visit his parents in the trailer park is the last day he ever tries to hide his accent

Blue’s accent is just as Henrietta as Adam’s but she doesn’t hide her accent nor has she ever tried to

Her words are clipped yet somehow at the same time drawling

She does nothing in halfs and her voice is no exception

She speaks forcefully and freely and often her words turn into rants or stories and her accent practically glows around her words

Gansey loves it and thinks its the best accent he has ever come across in all his travels

Blue’s especially

Henrietta is Gansey’s home it makes him calm

And Blue sounds like henrietta

Sprawling and warm and filled with something more

Noah’s voice is faded

He has an American accent but it is 

Faded and faded and faded

It comes to the point where you can hear his words but are unsure if he is even speaking 

Or if all you can really hear is the wind through the trees or the sound of traffic in the distance
