August 2023 Update
Long time, no see, huh?
I'll cut to the chase: a LOT has happened between our last post and now. For one, we've been rehearsing hardcore to bring the boys of Days Go By to life on stage. Unfortunately, that stage was most unrighteously pulled out from under us by poor roof maintenance.
So our previous venue was a no-go, but our cast and crew pushed on valiantly like the bodacious soldiers that they are. Amid some further difficulties with recasting and finding a new venue, we determined that the production would have to take on a different shape.
As such, it will soon be our major honour to bring DAYS GO BY: An Eighties Musical to you via an intimate showcase this October! We'll be recording the workshop for anyone who can't attend in person and posting it on our Youtube channel for your viewing pleasure. Keep an eye on our instagram page for updates on performance dates + juicy promo content!
Stay radical!

January 2023 Update
Salutations all! Further to our somewhat cryptic post last month, I have some exciting updates that I thought I'd lay out here for those of you still don't follow the instagram (which you should! @ ingenuetheatre)
In case you haven't cottoned on yet, I am enormously pleased to announce that DAYS GO BY will be performed THIS MAY, with rehearsals starting in February. We put together an absolutely outstanding cast and crew (the latter of which is still growing) and successfully raised the funds for our venue, which means we are now shifting focus to raising money for our production budget.
If you'd like to help us out and support a fabulously fruity eighties spectacle please check us out on kofi @ ko-fi.com/ingenuetheatre!

Days Go By: An Eighties Musical [UPDATE!]
Hey all! Bez here. Exciting news -- I am currently writing the finale number for Days Go By: An Eighties Musical, and once that's done we should have a complete FINAL DRAFT of our script + demo album! Of course there'll still be some editing and polishing to do but the show will be ready to put on in the near future (more on that later...)
It's been a hot second since we've done a QnA. Now that we're at this point in the process, I thought we should get back on our socials to answer all your questions about the show.
Please feel free to leave your questions under this post in the replies, drop an ask in our inbox OR head over to our socials @ IngenueTheatre on Instagram and TikTok and respond to our QnA stories there. Have a lovely day!

I’ve been following you guys since this was a Workin’ Boys production, and I just wanna say it’s really inspiring to see this project grow and come to life! The concepts for the staging were genuinely stunning! I’m very excited to see what’s in the future, and hope you guys are all doing well.
Aww thank you so much! We've definitely come a long way since Workin' Boys haha. We're very excited to share all of our hard work with you guys! I really hope you like it! Bez <3

which song do you think will surprise/hit people the most?
Liv: 'Arcadia comes to mind as the biggest 'oh shit' moment mid-song.'
Bez: 'Definitely Elysium. I can't tell you why, but it will.'

how would you describe dgb in six words??
We had a few different suggestions so I'll give you my favourite:
'Boy, capitalism sure sucks, doesn't it?"

which types of songs do you find easiest/hardest to write? (e.g. solos, duets, group numbers)
Solos are usually easier because you're typically writing just one melody throughout, but making a solo feel 'big' enough for theatre can be more tricky.
Group numbers aren't too difficult in my experience as it's often just a case of singing the same words multiple times in different ways, be it in harmony or in a call and response format.
Duets are actually the hardest because you're often trying to marry the different musical styles of two characters, usually with completely opposite energies (as that makes for the best conflict). Duets also typically require more variation musically, whereas group numbers like I said are really just a case of rewriting the same section for different parts. Making two characters sound both distinct and complementary can be very challenging, but these also always make for the best songs.
Thanks so much for your question!

what would be the funniest/most ironic song for someone to audition for each of the main Characters with?
This is an EXCELLENT question. I just asked the team and this is what we came up with:
Isaac - Mama Who Bore Me from Spring Awakening
Leighton - On My Own from Les Miserables
Chad - Changing My Major from Fun Home
Steve - 9 to 5 from 9 to 5
Ratio - I Have Friends from Crazy Ex Girlfriend
Eden - Screw Loose from Crybaby the Musical
Somehow we ended giving them ALL songs traditionally sung by women haha. Anyway, thanks so much for this question! Bez

any updates on set design/staging?? The set concepts look amazing
In Autumn of last year, I constructed a scaled set model for the show as part of my university coursework, which more or less replicated the digital design concepts you've seen. This model was reworked to fit within the dimensions of the drama school's theatre space, which is potentially where we will be holding our first workshop of the show. There were some minor differences to this scale model that styled the set more obviously after old television sitcom sets of the 1980s such as Cheers and Family Ties.
The set's complexity will of course depend on our final budget but designed the set (and the show itself) with this in mind so it's still very much stageable at a more barebones level. One rather more expensive element I'm very keen to include is the screens, however these may have to be substituted for a a projection on the back wall in the workshop.
At the very minimum, we'll need a venue with a stage large enough to accommodate a full ensemble + principal cast. The drama school theatre space we're considering for the workshop just about suits this, but for any potential future productions we'd have to consider the size of the stage as a factor when designing anything more elaborate.
Thanks so much for your question!

what are each of the main characters' favorite colors and artists/bands?
Oh my goodness I LOVE this question thank you.
For those of you who don't know, Days Go By features seven principal characters -- Isaac, Mark, Leighton, Chad, Steve, Ratio and Eden. Here are their faves: ISAAC: Favourite colour - Orange Favourite artist - Frank Sinatra, The Lovin' Spoonful, Lionel Richie LEIGHTON: Favourite colour - Flamingo Pink Favourite artist - Prince ('duh!') CHAD: Favourite colour - Turquoise Favourite artist - If anyone asks, it's Guns 'N' Roses. Truthfully, it's Air Supply STEVE: Favourite colour(s) - muted green and brown (earth tones) Favourite artist - Miss Dolly Parton
RATIO: Favourite colour - CMYK 78%, 56%, 0%, 70% (Oxford Blue) Favourite artist - Tchaikovsky, or Luther Vandross EDEN: Favourite colour - 'the colour of space' (also purple) Favourite artist - The Beach Boys, Joy Division
Thanks again for your question!

what's been your favourite part of writing the musical?
Writing the songs can be really exhausting but they're also SO much fun to record! It's incredibly satisfying getting to listen to them all in order now that the album is almost complete. I can't wait to share them with you all <3
