"I hate you," Regulus spits as James pushes past him in the hall, resenting the way the older boy has taken his brother away.

"I hate you," Regulus protests as James wraps his arms around him, pulling him close, comforting him when he finds Regulus crying alone at the top of the Astronomy Tower.

"I hate you," Regulus murmurs when James grabs his wrist and pins him against the wall, crashing their lips together, pulling flames of want and need from his body and heart.

"I hate you," Regulus mutters with a soft smile as James tells him horribly cheesy jokes, grinning like he's a genius. Regulus tries and fails not to laugh.

"I hate you," Regulus sighs as he rests in James's arms, breath calming even as their bare chests touch and his heart beats quickly. He can't say it yet, but the feeling is there, hovering in the heat between them.

"I love you," Regulus confesses as he looks into James's eyes, tears running down his face, shaking with the vulnerability of the statement, wondering if the love they both have is enough to withstand the weight on Regulus's shoulders.

"I hate you," James breathes, staring down at the Dark Mark on Regulus's forearm, face blank and fists clenched.
