Been busy reading Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson! It’s so crazy good. Exciting to have such a complex world.
Took me a while but I’m ahead of my goals. Starting Words of Radiance (book 2) on my kindle so I think it’ll take me less time tbh.

Haven’t updated in a while but I finished Vengeful.
I liked Vicious a touch more but it was still a very fun read. Exciting ending.
I’m about 1/3 of the way through The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson.
It’s really really really incredible. Epic fantasy with incredible worldbuilding.
I’ll talk more when I get further into it, but another one of my goals for the year was to try Brandon Sanderson so check!

I’m almost done with Vengeful by VE Schwab.
Of the 3 books I’ve read by her, she is masterful at winding together multiple characters with varying motives and backgrounds into a beautifully unfolding story.
She’s so wonderful at perfectly revealing details in a slow and meaningful way, but also not revealing so much that you’re overwhelmed at the information introduced.
easy to follow even with timeline jumps. She’s a wonderful author! Thanks VERY much VE Schwab!

Oh, I finished Vicious a few days ago and rolled right into Vengeful. This is still part of my B&N haul that I did a few weeks ago.
I’m trying to finish Vengeful this week, I’m maybe a third of the way through I think- I am traveling this weekend and I like having a full book ahead of me bc a lot can get read in the airport and traveling lol. I want to bring the paperback brick of Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson with me (another goal of mine was to try a Brandon Sanderson) :) so I’m doing great on my goals so far! That’s my idea at least. I also bought The Road by Cormac McCarthy so it’s more what fits best in my purse for airport travel. We’ll just have to see!

Currently reading: Vicious by VE Schwab! Reading paperback, took a trip to Barnes and Noble last week so expect an increase in paperback reading haha.
Also bought Vengeful, but I’m loving the story right now. It’s so dark and picked up so quick. The time jumps are done incredibly well IMO.
One of my goals this year was to read more VE Schwab so check!

I finished Bunny by Mona Awad last night, total banger. The twist at the end was crazy. Y’all know I love a (severely) unreliable narrator. 9/10 sometimes it got a little *too* crazy but I feel like this one wil be making the top 10 list of the year haha

I’m halfway through one dark window and oh my gosh, it’s so so so so good. I’m eating it up.
I started it last night haha… oops. So much for trying to read slower…
Very much loving foreshadowing, even thought I don’t even know WHAT it’s foreshadowing- I went into this book knowing absolutely nothing so it’s been so much fun learning this interesting new magic system as it’s being introduced.
I’m feeling miss Elspeth is my favorite trope,,, unreliable narrator!!! She’s mentioned a few times letting the Nightmare in and it’s making it harder to keep him out like girl!!! No!!! I want you to be with Ravyn like I’m obsessed w him and his flaws and his strengths we love a non-perfect love interest (the thing is I don’t even know if he’s endgame so I don’t wanna get too invested like I could be picking up on the flaws bc he’s not meant to be… ugh! I gotta go read)
Absoltuely cannot wait to read the rest and second!

Halfway thru w This is How it Always is- always takes me a little longer with realistic books but the writing in this one is STUNNING. Knocking me on my ass.
Should I read One Dark Window Duology or What Lies beyond the Veil next? I want some fantasy I think

I finished Ashes and the Star Cursed King!
Honestly the ending made me so happy, and honestly I really liked the last 25% of the book. Like I was expecting shit to hit the fan but it did it in a very surprising and interesting way.
(Spoilers start now:)
Loved the ending (esp. w the goddess stuff) okay sorry tiny spoiler.
Very excited for the next stuff in Crowns of Nyaxia. Mische is an interesting character and while I was sort of expecting her to die since she like avenged her “Turner” which side note we don’t know how to do,
Her arc felt very much complete to me so I’m curious to see where Carissa takes her, lots of places to go.
Gonna freaking miss Raihn tho. Sorry he’s honestly such a great MMC, like him wayyy better than Xaden sorryyyyyy not sorry
The goddess stuff was so so interesting to me. Loved the setup w the spurned Nyaxia. Loved the foreshadowing. Dark! Hope something happens with that.
Well, all the plot holes aside, I really enjoyed this one for story’s sake. Gonna soft 8/10 bc the ending made me so warm and fuzzy hahahaha

Re: the magic system in the Crowns of Nyaxia series……. Ummmmm what are we doing here.
Spoilers!
Ummm I’m very confused how everything works here. Oraya has no clue she can use magic substationally and blows Raihn out the window? When she’s been threatened before? How is this any different… is she just supposed to be like Raihn brings out a different side of me like……. That cannot be how it works.
And then the WINGS. Please. You must be serious. Like all the sudden she can fly, like okay I can see that foreshadowing but now she can conjure and get rid of them only a week after having them? And having them be nailed through? I mean I guess she says Ketura helped her or whatever but like there’s practically not an iota of detail. At one point she wishes them away and it dosent work and then all of sudden it just does. Idk I’m just nawtttt buying it.
One more thing about the wings: when they go to the desert Lilith (recently turned) can’t fly the whole way but all the sudden Oraya can? Like a week straight of flying after finding out she has wings 8 days before? Where is the logic.
Everything is sorta like “ummm she has the heir mark now!” When that seriously explains practically nothing. Raihn seems to have very slight heightened magic, I know they say it’s way more powerful now but WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE!!! Show me don’t tell me.
And then when Oraya saved Raihn from the coup she’s bloodthirsty and basically in a haze? Come on I just am not buying it one bit. I practically rolled my eyes when a single human (sure, HALF vampire) took out 30+ armed trained vampire soldiers.
Don’t get me wrong I like the books. I’m about 75% of the way thru the second. But the magic is making me pissed the hell off. There is no explanation, rhyme, reason, etc.
