Composer | Pianist | Sound designer | ArtistCurrently in Australia, this blog follows my path to my career with music, success, plans, updates and more
So after working on a few portfolio items this month I have been working on my choral piece ‘Ghost’. My goal for this piece is to create an ethereal atmosphere which feels like ghosts are calling out to love ones.
I had a meeting with an Australian composer and conductor to receive feedback and they said this really interesting sentence ‘always try to stretch your content as much as you can’. I have three distinct parts in this piece, the intro, verse and bridge. They are quite beautiful on their own but now I have to mix them up and create links between my pieces.
I also need to start committing to my pieces and making them finished so I can let them go. I’ve realised that I tend to hold on to my music instead of letting them flourish on their own.
This month I have also begun working on the sound design for a short 15 minute theatre performance. I am so excited to get into theatre again especially after my first theatre composer gig was cancelled due to the lockdown in Australia.
Lastly, I found out that I won the Australian Artogy Fanfare competiton and will be recording with a real orchestra later this year
It’s been a while since I posted on tumblr. I had to survive lockdown in Australia.
I am very excited to have my song ‘Fanfare of the elder one’ recorded and performed by the Australian Youth Orchestra later this year~ I’ve recently won the Australian Fanfare Competiton.
I am so excited for this event to happen. I haven’t won anything in music before in my life and now to have small validation of my skills and work is something I am greatful for. A sign I am moving in the right direction
The last two days I’ve been working on developing a vocaloid to assist with an upcoming videogame project. I created this one in the style of animal crossing combining my vocals with a piano composition in C Lydian. Enjoy
Currently studying ‘Improvisation’ by Gabriel Fauré. the C# minor ascending melody into F#minor and then into a II V I progression is just beautiful and I can’t get it out of my head.
Currently practicing for 30 minutes a day as more of my day is taken up by producing and composing. Hopefully I can get it back up to 2 hours a day
So it’s official, we are all in social isolation. Let this be a month of composing.
Last month I successfully finished composing for my first short film, a PSA short. I learnt that sometimes a piece of music can sound awful on its own, however when coupled with other film elements (acting, sound, visuals) it is lifted into a valuable asset to the film. As a aspiring film composer I think it’s important to recognise that the music that I create is to support and add value to the film. To take the director’s vision and add to it sonically. Additionally I finally released my single, ‘Sigh’.
This month is quite more studious, I plan to study theory each day in isolation. I have a few in progress composing projects such as a corporate documentary, podcast and video game sound design.
I hope to also build up my internet presence on tumblr, Instagram and Facebook.
Hope the person reading my blog is safe and washing their hands regularly!
