Season 8 salt

I won’t redact my previous post, I still love the series and characters, but season 8 felt very disjointed. Having 13 episodes most certainly didn’t help, but some things in term of narrative could have helped so, so much. 

Shiro and Keith have the strongest relationship in the show and I am not even talking from a shipping stand point. They love each other, plain and simple, the lengths they go for each other is so easy to see through the first 7 seasons. But season 8 had them not interacting at all. There were three, THREE episodes that they could have done something and they chose not to. Setting up Lance and Allura, which played a big part in the story is fine, but it felt like in order for that to be told all other characters had to fall to the wayside. In the first episode where Lance and Allura have their date (yay!), Shiro says for everyone to spend time with those they love. Keith is seen in the desert watching the sunset atop of Black. That would have been a nice Black Paladin moment of Shiro and Keith watching one together. Reminiscing about the Garrison days or whatever. But no nothing. Then there is the episode with Clear Day. Shiro is very soft when he tells Keith to have some fun, which would have been a good opportunity to have them have a good time together like they used to. But no, nothing. And then there is the episode with Kinkade recording life on the Atlas. He could have caught a sparing session, random covo of just the two of them. SOMETHING, but no, nothing at all. 

Which that brings me to the end… the damn fucking epilogue images… the mother fucking leaks! Only thing that technically was false was WHO Shiro married. The EPs have said if romance was to happen it wasn’t going to be forced. To have a MAIN character marry someone we don’t even know is fucking wrong on so many levels. So as above, mentioning the Kinkade episode, there could have been a scene with Shiro interacting with this guy. If something was indicated I could possibly accept the ending more or hell even if Shiro was talking to KEITH about this dude would have been okay. But no, other than a few glances maybe we get nothing to build up for that kind of ending.

How do you go from; “As many times as it takes” “I love you” “You can’t do this to me again” “We saved each other”

To not fucking interacting at all?! This felt like a completely different show… You can’t take something that was so strong, so valid to throwing it all away. Lance and Allura had their time of love in the spotlight, evolved to hearing her say she loved him, Zethrid and Ezor LIVED and are back together. But Shiro and Keith? Nah they’re just there, not even being best friends. They’re bond just feels lost. And why? Because two strong male leads can’t be in love THAT way? It feels hallow and cowardly. I would have preferred Shiro being alone romantically, but had his closeness with Keith in tact. Keith did ALL of this for Shiro, EVERYTHING and he was rewarded with silence. Loose ends are still quite loose. Though in interviews we know Shiro has the clone’s memories, he and Keith NEVER talk about it. Never talk about the fight, never talk about the “I love you”, something Keith has never said to anyone else at that time. Never talking about how Shiro would feel about that fight, hurting Keith; both emotionally and physically.  They could have given us ONE FUCKING SCENE of them talking about it, but nooooooo. Why did Shiro move to Green? Nope gonna explain that at all…

I know the higher ups probably had something to do with this, but it feels like they destroyed their own story, their characters with this. And this is just what I am mostly salty over, the way they defeat Honerva was rather lack luster too. I want a do over! Let their a be a movie that sets this right!

WHO IS THE ELF WITH THE STAFF

Solas.  Almost guaranteed.  But there is a lot going on here.

The staff is super significant.  It is introduced to us in DA2 as Freedom’s Promise and it has a storied history that ties it to Aldenon, Calenhad, and the creation of Ferelden.  This new information leads us to believe that Aldenon was almost certainly an agent of Fen’Harel.

The model was later reused in Trespasser and given a new name: Heart of Pride.  The only way to get Heart of Pride is to solve the Veilfire puzzle in the Unknown Ruins that are connected to the Deep Roads by this hidden eluvian.

Inside the eluvian is a ruin, a Fen’Harel statue, a mural, and the Veilfire puzzle.

Zooming in on the mural we see some of the same iconography from the just released DA4 teaser.  Notice the orb-like object in the right elf’s hands.  This is the same symbol as the half circles in the mural from the trailer.  

They are reusing iconography here for a reason.  Notice that the circle surrounding the Titan and the one surrounding the red lyrium statue have the same pattern as well.  This suggests that this surrounding circle is meant to represent the realm of the Titans, the Abyssal Void.

The juxtaposition of the the orb symbols in the old and new image may mean that the half circles represent, not just the Evanuris as we previously speculated, but the hearts of Titans as well.  There is a connection between both!  The orbs were likely the source of the Evanuris’ power and therefore are representative of the seven sealed gods as well.  Two of the orbs being highlighted could symbolize two of the evanuris awakening….. 

Or could mean that their orbs have been found by the Dread Wolf?!?  He needs orbs to bring down the Veil.  Well, shit.

I think the reason I enjoy Ghibli so much is it romanticizes the little things. It makes me want to bake, study, clean the house, garden, and more while listening to happy music and occasionally picking wildflowers and lying in the grass. It helps me find joy in day-to-day life and that’s honestly sooo important for my mental health.
