Goblin Games

I'm always thinking about what sorts of games Goblins would make and play. This speculative game design re-centers me, allows me to smile and think of play in "wrong and upside down" ways.

"Goblin Games" are often similar to playground and children's games, but not exclusively. In my head, that esoteric canon we all keep within us, Goblins are beings whose primary culture is play and expression. So even games adults would play (gambling games being a major one) I look to how Goblin's would tackle that, what's important to them and what interactions they are pursuing. I like to imagine a culture where play is encouraged from birth to death, in every bit of life, instead of as just a part of your childhood.

I rarely think about why do they play games, because that's just what they do. Instead I question when do they play games? When do we play games? When do we not? How do Goblins play when we do and when we don't do? Where do they play these games? And so on. The secret, spoilers, is that a lot of games we play as humans are just Goblin Games anyway.

In an attempt to find how I want to use this platform, I think the longform nature of posts will work well in collecting these Goblin Games, so I'll continue to add some here when I want to write them down. I hope you enjoy the Goblin Games I make, and maybe you too can contribute some of your own!

@12-acts-of-creation here interpreted a context very close to the one I had in mind which makes me very happy as It means my thingy isnt completely unintelligible.

i dont want to revela too much in case I do a sequel and to still leave most of the info up to imterpretation but I feel like I have to give a few hints and clarifications.

For starters the title "Codex" as well as the framing in the PDF is a bit deceptive asmost of the drawings aré stand alone and no page Is meant to have directo continuity with one another. In my mind the idea was these drawings dont share a theme in common as much as they share creator AND the context in which they were created. They were probably bundled together by historians justbecause they were round together, I feel like stuff susch as this probably happens irl too.

Secondly thinking about how these aliens differ from humans Is indeed a VERY GOOD line of thought. Actually Heres a hints I shared in a gc where I posted this:
